Matchday 20 - Quick Round Up

08 Jan 2026 18:41:36
{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new article entitled, Matchday 20 - Quick Round Up

08 Jan 2026 16:45:02
I bet I could do a better job with the Celtic recruitment, using the football manager database.

08 Jan 2026 16:56:56
That's the exact problem with the recruitment! They use these databases for stats etc instead of going to watch players!

08 Jan 2026 17:21:24
I don't think Kyogo will come back tbh, he left for a reason. He thought going to France was an upgrade, same with Birmingham.

Similarly Giakoumakis left as we wouldn't pay him more but I would take him back first. Strong, good in the air and on ground.

He's more of a MON type player.

08 Jan 2026 17:58:19
Everything is all data and analytics now Bhoy88. Still need to do the old fashioned watching them in action but Tony Bloom's Jamestown Analytics has been really successful for helping Brighton finding gem after gem. The signings made for Hearts too have helped them get to where they're at this season (as well as our poor form)

08 Jan 2026 18:28:05
For a bit of interest a go thru the leagues to see who has a good defensive and scoring record then wonder if we could entice there players here. Stoke has a good def record sit 8th and Southampton goal scoring record who are near bottom, championship b a great place to look.

08 Jan 2026 18:29:24
If reports we are in for a loan deal with Birmingham for Kyogo, then more heads need to roll inside Celtic Park.
Going back for Jota, Tierney and now Furuhashi is lazy, backward thinking, not to mention extremely risky.

We are the richest club in the country with - you would imagine - the best resources so get up off yer arses and look at what's out there.
Other teams in the SPL put our recruitment to shame.

08 Jan 2026 18:40:12
They can't blame Brendan and tisdale now.

08 Jan 2026 19:18:05
I've said it before that it was no coincidences that Celtic didn't sign anyone the same year football manager got shelved for a year because it was not ready to be shipped or similar.

08 Jan 2026 19:27:48
Brendan's awful system wasted Kyogo's strong points!

08 Jan 2026 15:46:04
Surely we are trying to get some decent players in to help try and win this league with a view to the future as well.

Should be getting David Watson signed up on a pre-contract, big Celtic fan and has always been a threat when we've played Kilmarnock, maybe a summer arrival as a free.

Josh Mulligan is a no brainer the lad has bags of energy, good player, physical, we are desperate for that type of player.

Id take Calum Wilson on a free regardless of previous injury problems, along woth Bowie from Hibs.

Ortega would be a great GK option and I would try getting Eivand Helland from Brann, CB with a huge future, not sure we'd be first choice i'm sure the big spenders around Europe have been interested in him but his contract is up end of this year, recently capped for Norway.

Griffin Yow or maswanhise as a wide option.

Seen Kyogo rumours again, loved him when he was here but Kenny has been more prolific of late, so i'd swerve that.

08 Jan 2026 16:21:30
Well done Turner a love it when our posters take time to cum up with names. not sure about Milligan or Watson as a can't remember them causing us to many problems but a thot the boy Watt (well) was excellent against us n totally bullied out midfielders. Bowie worth a Punt.

08 Jan 2026 16:31:16
Kyogo no. Kenny prolific? I want what you're on 😀.

08 Jan 2026 16:17:15
After all the discontent aimed at the board for " not spending" I really can't see it all being made right by signing Callum Wilson.

08 Jan 2026 16:57:18
I like the sound of Ortega.

Mulligan, for me, has shades of another former box to box midfielder from the Hibees who arrived at Celtic.

I also think Bowie could be a good back up option in the short term, depending on how he develops in the future, he could end up as the main man.

We seriously require an oven ready striker, even on loan, who's capable of averaging a goal a game (not Kyogo) until the end of May.

08 Jan 2026 17:13:28
9iar it was clearly sarcasm Kenny would struggle to get a start at most SPL clubs, yet has scored more goals of late as Kyogo has, we can't just bring back everyone that leaves that's zero ambition.

08 Jan 2026 17:25:38
Looking at SPFL players is lack of ambition as well imo, we need to look at the quality that are able to perform in CL.

Watching some of these guys in Europa and Conference they struggled.

I know some of our did too but replacing like with like will not move us forward in any way.

08 Jan 2026 18:06:52
Do t be surprised if the window closes and we have not addressed the deficiencies in the team.

08 Jan 2026 18:13:38
Christ we have to move up the table before thinking about CL that's months away, its right now and January isn't a cheap month. Folk clammered on the club spending money, bring in Engles Trusty and Idah, all of whom are not as good as what's already in the SPL, so much snobbery to the league, everyone will of wanted Miller or Ferguson yet when they were in the SPL not too many wanted near them, we need players who can play in our league.

08 Jan 2026 18:18:50
we should always be looking to sign the best Scottish players available (that doesn't mean signing them for the sake of it) as well as bringing through as many of our own youth players as is possible.

08 Jan 2026 18:56:22
Lyndon Dykes is an O'Neill type of player, he would be a great foil for our attacking and creative players. If I was bringing in short term, low risk, everything to play for (World Cup place) it would be Dykes. Also I would try to bring Billy Gilmour on loan.

08 Jan 2026 23:16:04
Dykes? Have a word with yourself. Dykes!

08 Jan 2026 23:41:10
Lyndon Dykes is nowhere near good enough for Celtic , young Kieran Bowie would be the better option .
Drewzybhoy.

08 Jan 2026 14:59:37
Surely a striker comes in before the weekend, no? Even if we do get 1 in before Sat, he's not likely to play any part in this weekends fixture. We are run very amateurish these days, its embarrassing.

All that money in the bank and we don't spend it, and when we do, we make and arse of it. Tides change very quickly, are we the new comedy club of Scotland? Sure looks that way to me.

08 Jan 2026 15:42:03
Kyogo has been playing al be it not starting every week but should be match fit.

08 Jan 2026 16:22:32
The board have took pelters recently from fans but turns out all they had to do was resign the best since Larsson.

08 Jan 2026 16:34:03
If Kyogo does come back it just adds to the ongoing circus and cements our club to the banter years. Our luck he'd come in get injured in the first game and be out for the rest of the season. Fresh ideas definitely needed, wouldn't be surprised to see us bring back Ange in the summer at this rate.

Who ma kidden they'll go with the cheapest option, Maĺoney. Need a new script this ones too easy to read now.

08 Jan 2026 14:40:23
I just watched the overlap episode with Larsson as the guest.
You could see the respect the 4 of the panel have for him, especially Keane and Wright.
First time i have ever seen Keane hug anyone and he pretty much sat the whole episode quietly listening to Henrik almost in awe of him.
There are very few ex players with the respect this man has across the continent. Idolized everywhere he has played even at Man United where he only played a dozen or so games. doesn't matter if you are an ex pro or just a fan. The guy is just universally regarded in the highest order.

And with the mess our club is in just now it makes you appreciate him and that time as a fan even more.
We will never see a talent or a player so humble again.

08 Jan 2026 15:51:33
To play for us, be questioned about how good he really is by English commentators and then go to Man U, where years later Alex Ferguson described him as the best value for money signing he made.

He then went to Barcelona, where he came on in the European Cup final and made 2 assists in last 10 minutes to win.

An absute gent and incredible hard working player.

We will never see his likes again at our club.

08 Jan 2026 16:26:28
Exactly what I thought
I wish more players had henriks attitude.

08 Jan 2026 18:25:49
Henke was just superb in every way, on and off the field.

I was delighted for him that after the huge dissapointment of the result in Seville, he later went on to lift the big cup with Barcelona.

His career deserved that, all the hard work as well as that particular injury, which was a sickener, when he was at Celtic.

Superb!

08 Jan 2026 14:20:37
So effectively the board are replacing kyogo with kyogo and for nowt.

08 Jan 2026 15:02:03
I guess we loaned him out for a season and charged £10 million.

08 Jan 2026 15:48:26
And he's kept himself fresh for his return by only scoring one goal while away brilliant business by the biscuit tinners.

08 Jan 2026 15:50:03
Good bit of business.

08 Jan 2026 15:50:24
Good bit of business.

08 Jan 2026 15:54:57
No matter what, he is better than what we have. Although that will depend on how his head is, having not scored for so long and as Ed mentioned, how his shoulder is. He is coming back to lumberjack country defenders.

Get him and another striker and we should be OK.

08 Jan 2026 15:58:53
It is a high risk strategy by the board as lots of fans were happy Kyogo was sold. The issue we had was that no replacement was brought in.

So I don't get why they would want him back, as he has hardly scored since leaving? 🤔

If he does not score when he comes back, lots of fans are going to go I told you so and blame the board for bad recruitment again.

08 Jan 2026 13:40:17
We need a physical goal scorer
I heard Dykes mentioned Ed. If he comes in with Kyogo you will be tipped over the edge😂.

{Ed007's Note - 😂😂

08 Jan 2026 14:26:08
We have made such a bawz of this season so far that the Board have to really pull out all the stops to help MON salvage what's left and that means strengthening right through the spine of the team.
I appreciate the January window is a difficult market, but it's imperative we see real progress made in BOTH directions.

If they want to contemplate regaining the pride and the cash they have squandered from last summer until now they need to back him with the best available - Striker, CDM, RW and even GK.
Otherwise there could be an empty trohy cabinet and even no CL?

08 Jan 2026 15:50:19
If the board brought in those two they need chased down london Rd with pitchforks.

08 Jan 2026 17:51:22
Dykes is about as mobile as a dyke, not for me.

Giakoumakis is a physical player and much more mobile. He scores much more than Dykes or Kyogo tbh but would he come back, don't think he would.

08 Jan 2026 13:27:53
If Kyogo returns to be a Bhoy again I expect him to be on fire and score plenty under MON and Shaun. They will use the midfield and wingers to take advantage of his clever movement.

Seldom have I seen a Celtic striker work so hard for position and only to see the ball played backwards.
If we get him I'm sure he will be welcome and he will deliver.

08 Jan 2026 14:23:38
Kyogo is going through a terrible time.
If he got an early Celtic goal he could go on and have a successful 2nd half of the season.

{Ed007's Note - Has he had his shoulder fixed?}

08 Jan 2026 14:55:42
He was off the boil and strugggling to score for us before he left. Then moves to Rennes and couldn't get a look in and now Birmingham. Hopefully this is just lazy journalism because if not it's hard to believe we even have a scouting department.

08 Jan 2026 16:29:17
I'm sure Kyogo hasn't had his shoulder fixed but it doesn't seem to be much of an issue.

Kyogo has been available for selection since he came back from his last injury in April 2022.
His shoulder has popped out a few times but then he's available again for the next match.

08 Jan 2026 12:51:32
Larsson was on the overlap it's worth a watch absolute legend.

08 Jan 2026 14:52:40
Watching it now.

08 Jan 2026 16:23:34
Where can we watch it?

08 Jan 2026 09:24:27
I heard before WN left we were trying to unsettle the Auchinleck striker with a cheeky wee bid. 🤣🤣

Wee!
