Think rocky should have been called back before Welsh, but honestly not much in it it does make sense obviously the board are taking the cheap option surprise surprise, but if trusty or scales get injured at least we have a right footer to come in, Welsh can play our league with his slippers on, higher level he struggles, he could probably cover rb as well so fir me it's a decent decision.
12 Jan 2026 11:23:37
Nawrocki is injured.
12 Jan 2026 14:17:56
They probably recalled Welsh as they were scared Motherwell would catch us.
12 Jan 2026 18:25:35
We have taken him back now due to a clause in his loan contract.
If we didn't do it now, we couldn't before the end of the window.
MON has said, if things work out, he can go back to Motherwell before the window closes.
Someone has noted this issue and highlighted it
MON has probably been told we have to take him back now, but don't worry we will get you a replacement and he can go back before the window closes.
Watch this space he will be here for the rest of the season.

Since when did Ralston become the pawn at our club?
For years the boy was a fan favourite came in when needed put in some excellent performances, some bad.
Does what he's told and I bet no doubt a class player to have in and around the club. Bleeds Celtic and would do anything to retain his position here. Circa 149 appearances and hasn't put a foot wrong that many times.
Gets played in a crappy system under a terrible manager and all of a sudden he needs to be moved on, he's terrible he's everything under the sun.
Why not have a go at Calum McGregor who has been woeful for the best part of 2 years and in that period been an abysmal captain. I still go back to his comments during the Kairat games and they were the final straw for me.
There has been a whole squad underperforming bar 1 or 2 for weeks now but they all get a pass and Ralston is to blame for it all.
Greg Taylor got the same treatment and he was an outstanding player for us. Same goes for big Starfelt. Got absolute pelters but had a great record when he was here. One or two mistakes and players are written off nowadays. It's boring to read at this stage.
12 Jan 2026 09:49:30
He's never been a fans favourite.
12 Jan 2026 10:07:39
Confidence gets shattered when constantly made scapegoat. Very few in the team have earned pass marks this season. Defence has been nervy and unreliable as a unit.
Not related to Ralston, but why oh why does our hierarchy even contemplate a player from an Israeli club? Surely they are not that thick? More bad feeling, more protests, more controversy despite Ta Bi not being an Israeli.
12 Jan 2026 10:47:55
I stopped reading after he said Ralston hasn't put a foot wrong many times
Kids don't do drugs.
12 Jan 2026 10:57:29
DC he certainly is has been, he was even given a nickname The Bricky. Not many players get that.
Totally agree 4LC.
12 Jan 2026 11:03:18
Over the past 12 months or so Maeda has done next to nothing except miss some very clear-cut chances even in big games (ScCup final and at Ibrox) , but he 'dines-out' on previous performances. Unfortunately Tony Ralston does not have that luxury and next to Liam Scales gets regular pelters - even though the Danish goalkeeper behind them has been shocking most of the season.
12 Jan 2026 11:11:54
This season to date has been shambolic from the board to the players on the pitch.
Ralston wears his heart on his sleeve, no doubt, and will always give 100% for the cause but he's never, ever a first team player for Celtic.
Anyone watching Celtic could tell you that long before the french clown rocked up to the circus.
12 Jan 2026 10:39:34
Lagerbielka is most puzzling 1 for me a think Edd pointed out we nvr lost a game with him in defence.
12 Jan 2026 11:15:57
I feel the same with Dane Murray. Like Scales he went out on loan for experience. Returns to club and looked very good in pre-season and early season games. Then CCV comes back, (a shadow of his former self) and DM, who has done little wrong, is dumped on the bench.
Now that would be fair enough if CCV was playing well but he wasn't. As we continued to play an out of form CCV in front of DM, it must have affected his confidence.
Then low and behold, CCV is injured and DM is thrown in against the diets at Tynecastle. Obviously shinned it into his own goal and gave away a silly penalty, probably over-keen to make amends for his earlier mistake.
He's then dropped back to the bench only to see a LCB shoe-horned into his position, further denting his confidence. Point is we select other players, (e. g. Schmeichel, McGregor, Hatate Tounetki etc. ) even when they are hopelessly out of form but a "prospect" gets dumped for one bad game. DM has great potential but we run the risk of crushing it, or losing him to another club who will no doubt, in time, make him look a class act. It's no wonder our best academy prospects leave, (sometimes without kicking a ball for us) , when they see their predecessors treated like this. Give youth a chance!
12 Jan 2026 11:21:28
He's terrible end of he's a trier but nowhere near good enough and that's not picking on the boy it's the truth.
12 Jan 2026 13:23:58
Derk boerrigter must have been a fans favourite as well.
12 Jan 2026 15:25:30
Ouch DC,
Boerrigter is a low blow.
12 Jan 2026 15:40:35
He might not be the best player but the point of my post was to highlight one player receiving the blame for absolutely everything.
Bobo, clearly you can't see the point of the post if that's where you stopped. Ralston has been a decent player for us. At the end of the day he's going out there doing his best. The managers have chosen him and he's stayed at the club.
Aye whatever DC.
12 Jan 2026 16:57:32
Lagerbielka and Nawroki are miles above most of our current defenders but there must have been something in them BR did not trust.
He saw CCV as our main man with Scales or Trusty.
Tbh Scales has playerd well this year, apart from when the French clown made him a winger.
He makes forward runs and tries to make forward passes
Trusty is not consistent enough and he gets a nose bleed when he moves forward with the ball. He gets closed down and makes a sideways pass when you see players ahead make good runs.
12 Jan 2026 17:27:09
But derk was given a nickname ken?
12 Jan 2026 17:42:19
Unfortunately it is not AR fault he is still here and playing.
He hasn't been injured many times or put out on loan, he has been seen as reliable but in fairness to him, he is no longer reliable. He goes back when he gets the ball and gives wingers far too much space.
He doesn't close them down like AJ and when you don't do that, crosses come in and we don't defend them well.
If our Mexican lad can stay fit he is way ahead of AR, confident on the ball and quick. He will be a good swap with AJ when he's fit.
To be fair there are not many players who have been left with a name this season, particularly at the end of BRs reign and then under the French mad hatter.
In MON last stint they improved but were still turgid at times but against at the weekend United they were back to near their best, fast flowing football, creating many chances and had we a real striker we would have scored a Barrow load.
But even MON realises he needs help. We need some team ready players and bench backup.
If MON doesn't get that, it is a disgrace and any potential manager watching would be concerned if they would be treated the same by an out of touch board.
11 Jan 2026 21:45:43
Hi all
Just read Welsh has been recalled. I think that's ridiculous. Why have we not went for an upgrade on what we already have?! Welsh has had countless chances to prove himself and like Ralston should be moved on.
We should also have had a striker in 10 days ago.
What have the board been doing all this time? Genuinely wondering what the day to day is like in there to justify the salary. Or is it that there's too much to do and they don't have the structure or staff to work in multiple fronts?
Totally at a loss here with whole thing.
11 Jan 2026 22:21:09
Welsh has had a great season so far at Motherwell.
11 Jan 2026 22:26:53
This is embarrassing, recalling Welsh who was moved out on loan as he wasn't good enough and we are apparently looking at a striker in Ligue 1 who has scored 1 goal this season.
Speak about underwhelming, MN is delving deeper into the gutter than ever.
If this is the level he expects MON to win the league with demonstrates he has no clue what he is doing.
11 Jan 2026 22:29:06
Give the guy a chance,
11 Jan 2026 22:46:29
The board are an absolute joke i heard jim duffy saying dd needs to understand they are only custodians Celtic will always be the fans club.
11 Jan 2026 23:08:19
His shoulder is weaker than Kyogos. 🙈
This board will not spend money.
I suspect this is revenge for the " not another penny campaign ".
11 Jan 2026 23:17:09
The wee cabal are doing their best to ruin our season.
Welsh is not up to playing CH for Celtic.
Bad feeling about how this transfer window is going to end.
We need a a tall commanding CH with a bit of pace. Welsh has none of these.
11 Jan 2026 23:39:09
This is where the whole ' sack the board' arguement has no substance and gets blown out of proportion! We need a RCB, we have two out on loan and one is performing well, so we recall him obviously and you get fans being negative for the sake of it and trying to make out that the board take the " cheap option"!
We have fans being negative because the board aren't targeting players who we have no chance in getting. We have fans wanting a whole new team with each player costing no less than £10m and fans writing off players because of the league they came from or the fee paid, and then wonder why the board don't listen to them. A huge cause of the toxic enviroment around the club stems from ignorant fans clouding their opinion with reality!
11 Jan 2026 23:52:51
100% Dr Phil.
12 Jan 2026 00:52:16
Shambles.
12 Jan 2026 01:13:25
Bhoy88
Ignorant fans - you're right - there's a lot of them about!
Ye fancy being the leader?
12 Jan 2026 05:15:53
Hope this is a sick joke
Boy is terrible seems that because some players come from the youth team they get a million chances like M Johnston or Ralston
He'll be injured within a month as well.
12 Jan 2026 07:22:24
@north18q - what we are seeing now is not vindictiveness from the board.
What we are seeing is the consequences of the board's mismanagement. Let me explain.
Last season the clubs revenue was 145 million, so we had the ability to spend if we had wished.
However, because of the board's mismanagement and the backlash it has caused, our revenue next season is going to be considerably lower.
This gives the board a few options.
1. Spend now but it means there will be even larger cuts in the summer to comply with UEFA regulations.
2. Spend very little so the cuts won't be as severe in the summer.
3. Sell before we buy this window and we may avoid large cuts in the summer.
12 Jan 2026 07:26:57
Bhoy, you are joking. Every time someone puts a post on feeling like we are being let down, you jump in with the entitled remark.
No one on here has mentioned spending 10 million on a player contrary to your remark, we just want Celtic to be their best, taking back a defender very few people thought was good enough, including several Managers, isn't an example if ambition, it is filling in the cracks, poorly.
Looking at a striker with 1 goal this season is again taking cheap option, hoping MON can get a tune out of him and we can make money on him, like Dembele, who wasn't playing when we signed him. Yes that worked out but this guy is no Dembele.
Finally Ta Bi is injured and we were buying him when injured, what would you call the boards transfer strategy when you hear this level if incompetence, and yes they are the cheap option and even you surely cannot argue with that.
12 Jan 2026 07:45:33
Bhoy88 is by far the happiest clapper on this site. i'm not sure how he hasn't been appointed to our board yet.
12 Jan 2026 09:27:50
Someone on this chat previously had a financial breakdown of what Celtic could afford in terms of transfer funds for this season, taking into account player sales, profit and keeping in line with FFP rules.
Im sure Celtic have enough funds to do business but what can someone explain the implications.
If we sign a player for say £5m on £20k a week, does that mean from the FFP budget takes wages also into account, agent fees etc?
Hearts are proof currently that the fee isn't the main criteria when recruiting based on our purchases of the past 5 years, top 15 based on cost:-
1 Jota €16.20m
2 Engels €13.00m
3 Idah €9.90m
4 Trusty. €7.10m
5 Carter-Vickers €7.00m
6 Tounekti €6.40m
7 Balikwisha €5.20m
8 Kühn €5.10m
9 Nawrocki €5.00m
10 Starfelt €5.00m
11 Barkas €5.00m
12 Palma €4.75m
13 Bernabei €4.35m
14 Abada €4.00m
15 Johnston €3.50m
Our signings i would say on the level of investment have been 50/ 50, however we've also traded well with some of which we purchased, but some just didn't cut it.
Johnston on that list for me is an absolute bargain of a player, and proves its not the fee but getting the recruitment correct.
Celtic need a Director of Football in place, qualified, with a track record of succesful transfer recruitment that fits our model.
Portuguese clubs dominate the player trade model, SC Braga is in the top 10 along with the clubs you would expect, couldn't we be trying at least to progress as a club, and try and recruit a succesful DOF to help achieve what we need?
The fact we got a guy in with no remarkable CV to be in charge of our recruitment department not only is amateurish, but shows that the board, or certain members of the board, probably want a yes man, not a qualified, proven man!
If they were to think clearly about what is best for the club they would be offering one of these DOF from those clubs an opportunity which from their track record would be significantly profitable for the club for years to come.
Dinamo Zagreb brought in a Spanish football expert Albert Capellas to continue their impressive player trade model, they sit high on the European list for transfer revenue, are Dinamo a bigger club than celtic?
12th of January, no striker, apparently Maloney, unqualified, touting players, they wonder why they get the huge backlash they do!
12 Jan 2026 09:45:26
2021 maeda, am sure Chris Sutton only scored one goal for chelsea before we signed him.
12 Jan 2026 09:52:58
Dembele was first choice striker at Fulham when we signed him.
12 Jan 2026 10:32:53
Chris Sutton was a proven goal scorer for a 3-4 season before tho I'm sure he was joint scorer in the league before his move to Chelsea.
12 Jan 2026 10:46:28
We'll just pretend Sutton never played for Blackburn before Chelsea eh.
12 Jan 2026 12:25:01
Turner1984,
good post, I don't know the answer but I'm confident Buzzbomb or Ed would know how it all works.
There's no doubt the complete lack of a footballing structure at Celtic has cost us a small fortune with the annual big player sales (known as our 'player trading model') covering this up.
Hearts this season, and many other clubs across Europe, smaller in size (support and revenue) than Celtic are better run and have a footballing model in place that has enabled them to successfully compete on the park whilst employing an effective player transfer model to generate a much needed revenue stream.
This goes back to the board, again and again.
They make the appointments (Tisdale and Nancy being two recent examples) and, as yet, have not put a structure in place i. e. DOF, review of scouting etc that would ensure the footballing side of the club runs smoothly, efficiently, profitably, whilst delivering success, both in terms of domestic trophies but also, importantly, progress in European terms.
It's ironic though, for a board who love money and the big number in the clubs bank account, by not putting the correct framework in place, has cost them tens of millions of pounds in CL qualification revenue alone, nevermind the player sales they could have had.
It's ineptitude and gross misconduct at a commercial level, too many back slappers who's only focus is the number in the bank account and not the future.
In the past 10 years or so, we should have been so far ahead of the rest of our league, it would have been practically impossible for any other club to catch us.
But, as I sit and type this post on 12th January, just about 12:30, we're on our 4th managerial appointment of this season, we currently sit third in the league, we lost the first cup final of the season and we don't have a striker who can score goals.
A disgraceful state of affairs.
12 Jan 2026 13:24:59
Although Bamba has only scored one goal this season he's still outscored Iheanacho in the last two and a bit seasons. He's just fell out of favour at Lorient and has played around the same game time as Kenny this season. Likely not a starter, he has probably been thrown on later in games where the team isn't showing the same kind if endeavor as the start.
It's a loan to buy so we can see what he does without an outlay of cash. We are after two strikers this window too.
12 Jan 2026 14:33:22
The board needs a longterm plan, that is transparent to the fans.
DOF is massive, from grassroots, scouting networks, player recruitment, player sales.
Our aim should be winning the league minimum season upon season, based on revenue and finances alone, European money is massive and we only have a sniff of that if we can get back to the top ASAP.
With DOF not in place right now we need to be recruiting players from within the league in my opinion, proven players, that will certainly be affordable, probably much more affordable than foreign markets, who would potentially need time to adapt to the league.
And just bare in mind this is short term while the long term structure is put in place.
Maybe couple of decent loans in for good players with options to buy would bolster the squad, and see where it takes us.
As fans we can't really expect gem signings when Maloney, no disrespect intended, finds himself identifying players for this club now, would make me believe the players would be known by all of us who we are looking at, not talent etc from foreign leagues.
11 Jan 2026 21:36:21
Going to make a prediction that Mighty Mike will not sign a single player this window that goes straight into the first team, this window will be loans and projects as per, we play Falkirk on Wednesday 3rd game without the striker that should have been here on January 2cd after spending New Year's Day with his family.
Mighty Mike…. world class in everything we do.
11 Jan 2026 22:22:04
A new signing started for the first team on Saturday?
11 Jan 2026 23:09:48
Bhoy you are just embarrassing yourself now with this defence of the board.
11 Jan 2026 23:58:56
You must be talking about that loan signing that your board never payed a penny for.
12 Jan 2026 00:19:07
North 18Q
100%.
12 Jan 2026 00:57:08
North18Q you are embarrassing yourself with your constant negativity and baseless statements like " I suspect this is revenge for the not a penny more campaign". Celtic got a great result after a great performance yesterday and we don't hear a peep out of you! A negative thread appears about a player returning from loan and here you are.
If I was MON and I needed a RCB and I discovered I had two out on loan I'd be saying " I want my player/ s"! That's why recall options are included in loan deals.
Let's see how Welsh performs after getting first team action!
12 Jan 2026 08:31:02
🤣🤣🤣 I don't think CCV is good enough for us and he's the best CH we have. Suppose we all have different levels of standards.
12 Jan 2026 09:25:01
Motherwell joint top for fewest goals conceded this year. Welsh must be doing something right, and he's 6.3. Fans have been asking for taller defenders for ages. Recalling him sounds like a good idea to me.
12 Jan 2026 10:37:14
Bhoy
Do you remember when you savaged BR for not giving game time to Shin, Inanmura, Pussey?
It appears that MON is of the same opinion that they weren't of the desired quality. In my opinion Welsh falls into that category as he was frequently bullied on the park and constantly injured.
Playing well for Motherwell isn't the same as playing for Celtic, of which he had many opportunities.
Your track record on players/ managers show that you clearly know nothing about football.
12 Jan 2026 12:26:55
North 18Q,
agreed.
12 Jan 2026 15:09:04
North18Q I never savaged BR for not giving game time to Shin and Pussey but he should've gave game time to Inamura 100%! Hopefully the loan spell at Tokyo will return us an even better player! The same with Nawrocki as BR played the same games with Nawrocki and Yamada even though he signed them! Anyway thankfully Rodgers is no longer here!
12 Jan 2026 16:37:34
Bhoy88 - it is clear that BR never signed these players hence the tension with head of
Football operations (with no cv to speak of) and Chairman PL who undermined BR at every opportunity.
12 Jan 2026 16:44:10
Selective in your recollection of posts plus knowing nothing about football.
Congratulations on a well earned double.
12 Jan 2026 17:00:09
Well whoever signed Inamura needs promoted to chief scout👍.
12 Jan 2026 19:07:27
Inamura will never be back at Celtic Park. If you genuinely believe that I have a bridge to sell you.
Our Chief Scouts just left the club.
I believe one went by the name of Lawell and the other called himself the football doctor.
Time you put the shovel down as every response you give highlights you on the forum in a very comical way.
It's not a good look.
{Ed007's Note - Jay Lefevre was head of scouting but he's away too.}
12 Jan 2026 19:42:38
You are of course correct Edd. i know you will have seen the point I was trying to make.
Can't believe we have a poster who thinks Shin and Yamada are two different players😂😂.
{Ed007's Note - I'm still trying to get over folk thinking Inamura was ever going to make it at Celtic!
11 Jan 2026 18:37:12
So it's game on contrary to some I think the 2 Sevconian are in for the long haul so time to back the legend, or we'll come up short.
11 Jan 2026 18:52:22
Our rivals both won away today and no longer look vulnerable. Both have paid out and strengthened their squads. Like it or not we are now chasing and cannot afford any more slipups. We need incoming quality for the run in. Anyone still think it's a dawdle?
11 Jan 2026 19:08:41
We will win the league👍.
11 Jan 2026 19:20:23
But there's a clear and present danger and you dismiss hearts as a Diddy team that have beat the Glasgow teams home and away and are grinding out results with 10 men, my point is this is the first real test we've had in years and it's of our own making, Martin needs help and now not at your glorious boards pace.
11 Jan 2026 19:57:11
We will only have a chance of winning it if we bring in 4 quality signings (CF midfield and CH and RW and change the GK.
You need a good gk gaining you points and goalscoring CF to win the league. We don't have have either.
Team is all too small and lacks physicality and pace. Midfield is easily overpowered. we are lacking in every part of the team.
We have been poor on the ark past 18 months and off the park for sometime.
11 Jan 2026 20:01:16
Martin said in his press conference that lots of work is being done to bring in players. Hearts are a wee diddy team, they're just having a good spell like 'title challengers' Aberdeen did last season.
We have been unlucky that we had two poor managers in one season who played a terrible style of football. If MON remained in charge we wouldn't be having this conversation!
11 Jan 2026 20:12:00
Craig Gordon apparently made a very good save today that helped ensure all 3 points.
11 Jan 2026 20:21:32
Martin can't influence what happens with the other 2 clubs Aberdeen blew up in Oct so hardly a comparison, don't think we should get to blaise, he needs help and soon into the 2nd week of the window and nothing.
11 Jan 2026 20:27:07
Fact is we have not beat those two 'diddy teams' in four attempts and have lost six league games already, compared to their 2 respectively. Even allowing for MON's return we need to go on a considerable run of wins home and away to mount a serious challenge.
We may be champions, but have been distracted and damaged by our own bad decisions and even incompetence. The Board need to give the manager every opportunity to do the job with real backing.
11 Jan 2026 20:28:17
Bhoy88, Hearts are a much bigger danger than Aberdeen ever were. And, this season there is a two pronged threat to contend with. This will be a nail biter right til the end.
11 Jan 2026 20:38:00
We are in January and we are still chasing, Aberdeen fell away early in December. Also Sevco weren't to be seen last season. So it isn't as plain sailing as you imagine.
11 Jan 2026 20:55:09
He did Pedro, cracking save right at the death from a header!
11 Jan 2026 20:56:21
It's a bad habit to bite your nails 4 leaf😕.
11 Jan 2026 21:19:16
Thanks lads thought it was just me jerez 🙏🙏.
11 Jan 2026 21:28:26
Do you need others to confirm your hysteria😂😂😂.
11 Jan 2026 22:21:40
Watched the Aberdeen game it was like watching a school playground game full of mistakes by both sides, not a good advert for Scottish football, we have nothing to worry about from The Rangers.
12 Jan 2026 00:02:20
Bhoy you'd give an aspirine and a paracetamol a sore head grow up kid 👍.
11 Jan 2026 16:22:36
I would field an understrength team against Bologna and keep players fresh for the hearts game. Hearts game is a must win if we want to win the league.
11 Jan 2026 16:37:04
It's sad you even have to suggest that Joe, we should have enough in the first team and bench to put out strong teams in both matches.
Watching Hearts today, they are not a great side but know how to win. At our best we should be too good for them but we need to be at our best and take our chances, which means we need a goalscorer.
Our window signings are going to decide where the league ends up imo.
11 Jan 2026 16:49:22
Hearts finished in the bottom 6 last season and failed to Qualify for Europe this season.
Who is feeding the computer to put Celtic away to Hearts twice a few days after European games?
11 Jan 2026 16:55:13
I agree that it is sad but it's the sad reality of our calamitous season.
11 Jan 2026 17:13:13
Strongest XI everytime, but I agree the Hearts game is more important!
11 Jan 2026 17:18:26
Must be the refs.
11 Jan 2026 17:22:37
Get a morale boosting win against Bologna and that will help the players when it comes to Hearts.
11 Jan 2026 18:13:33
Are we all forgetting about Falkirk on Wednesday, that won't be a stroll, Falkirk going well.
11 Jan 2026 18:44:30
I'm not taking anything for granted Stevie. We have made this season hard for ourselves.
11 Jan 2026 18:50:14
100% agree. Europe doesn't matter now. Use these games to get some minutes for Sinisalo, bollockwisha, Murray, and hopefully surraxhi and I'nacho.

I'm honestly more confident now than at any time previously about us getting title, hearts will stay consistent I think until march time, by then the Glasgow teams should be out of Europe etc and pressure will mount on hearts ( looking at their season so far, everything has went in their favour and I believe they'll start failing ).
Sevco, I think depends on who they sign, any quality additions could lift them but there team right now I don't see as an overall threat, they're on a run ( a run that includes pretty normal performances and some bad ones and some wins against Aberdeen that even Nancy gave a going over ) for Celtic some quality additions where needed and consistency will see us gain form I have no doubt, Joe I agree feck Europe use it for some mins in legs of important players but whatever team plays achinleck i'd try and get same out on Thursday if there in Europe squad.
11 Jan 2026 19:36:59
I was more confident before Nancy arrived.
11 Jan 2026 20:15:33
Bologna game is irrelevent.
The league is the priority, but as Weejoe says, this is self inflicted.
They need to get a striker in before the Hearts game.
11 Jan 2026 21:23:40
Play your best team every time it establishes continuity, and builds teamwork and player interaction.
11 Jan 2026 22:23:00
It's a ridiculous suggestion to play a weakened team.
11 Jan 2026 12:00:58
Kenny or BOWIE
In this Tim's eyes is a no brainer
Kenny has had multiple chances to make himself a first team player and has failed miserably
I have read posters on here saying Bowie would be a "project" but is that not what Kenny is just now
Bowie knows our League and offers something different, and he is stronger both physically and mentally than Kenny, the Hibs player offers skills Kenny does not have
No even if it costs £5m Bowie is my choice.
11 Jan 2026 12:39:16
Maswanhise or Braga are better options than Bowie imo.
11 Jan 2026 12:49:45
Bowie had better albums tbf.
11 Jan 2026 12:53:19
Maybe the board will shock us and buy francalina dju.
11 Jan 2026 13:30:45
We need a proven goalscorer and no more projects.
We do not have the time to bed in a project striker when we are 6 points behind one of ugly sisters.
11 Jan 2026 13:55:31
Bowie scored a good goal yesterday and is scottish.
11 Jan 2026 14:02:42
Braga for me is the better option out of them all. Can play as a 10, on the right or as a ST.
11 Jan 2026 14:44:49
DRB,
I doubt they could spell it.
11 Jan 2026 14:52:11
Bowie from Hibs would not be a project but nor is he a starter for Celtic (IMO) as I don't see how he would score the required goals this season to enable us to retain the league.
Comparisons between Bowie and Kenny are non sensical, so let's not waste time with that.
Celtic requires not one, but two strikers, just like the two strikers we sold last season, Kyogo in January and Idah in the summer, and never replaced.
So for me, sign Bowie as a back up, and get a Robbie Keane type signing in on loan to put the H. UNS back in their box and bring back the two remaining domestic trophies to paradise.
11 Jan 2026 15:03:38
Adam Amstrong is a keane/ hooper type player, Southampton struggling might tempt them £4/ 5m bid and Bowie.
11 Jan 2026 15:29:25
Mally, just because he scored yesterday and is Scottish, really isn't justification for buying a player.
Is he good enough to do it in the green and white and in Europe. That is what players are judged on not nationality.
11 Jan 2026 15:44:00
Can't see hearts selling whe they're on this run.
11 Jan 2026 16:19:37
Did Bowie not score a cracker in Europe for Hibs?
11 Jan 2026 18:21:13
Maeda feck me that's not what am saying, sorry for confusion an only stating if we're going for a striker from our league he'd be it.
11 Jan 2026 19:08:04
Spl wise Bowie fits Scottish quota but I'd prefer manwanisie, bowie for me is a Kenny replacement ( I. e back up )
11 Jan 2026 21:04:58
Mally, I wasn't having a go, I agree if we were choosing someone in our league he would be up there. I am just saying we all want the club to be the best it can be.
To do that we need to show ambition and that's the worry for me, I just cannot see MN pulling out all the stops to get the quality of strikers we need.
No offence to Bowie, I would be disappointed if that was the height of our ambition.
11 Jan 2026 11:39:06
Would be good to get saratchi and ilheanacho back.
11 Jan 2026 12:01:00
Agreed Mally, we need all the help we can get.
11 Jan 2026 12:15:34
I'd be pleasantly surprised if we have any of our hamstrung heroes, (AJ, Sarachi, Iheanacho or Osmand) back before March. Were they fit now, I don't think we would need any additions to win this league.
11 Jan 2026 13:48:27
Iheanacho and Scarrachi are back training on grass and shouldn't be too far away according to MON.
Once our new rb gets his full match fitness back, especially his tackle timing, he is going to be a good addition until AJ returns.
11 Jan 2026 13:56:39
Think saratchi and ilheanacho are close by all accounts they're on the grass that was from Martin.
11 Jan 2026 14:53:24
I read that too MIP, Osmand though will take a good bit longer to get back.
11 Jan 2026 15:30:34
I like Osmand, he looked very promising, has pace and knows where to be to take chances.
11 Jan 2026 16:02:59
Did osmand muscle not dettach from the bone and is out for the season?
11 Jan 2026 16:34:42
Iheanacho tried to come back too quickly last time though and we know how that worked out.
11 Jan 2026 11:32:43
I would be going for Lyndon Dykes due to his ability to bring in wide players and attacking midfielders, his hold up play is good and he would get 15 goals this season alone. Also he needs to be playing to guarantee a World Cup place. If not him I would try to get shankland and sell him in summer with a more long term option.
Our inability to have that central target figure is the missing link even in MON team. What other viable, affordable options are there? Keen on people's thoughts?
11 Jan 2026 12:18:53
Sorry, no way I'd want to see that useless lump in the hoops. We have to be more ambitious in our transfer policy even if it means only 1 or 2 additions per window, targeting our specific weaknesses rather than buying projects who might end up making us money.
11 Jan 2026 12:41:02
Lay off the booze mate 🤣. Dykes is a terrible player. Steve Clarke has this weird way of picking players through loyalty more than anything else. Otherwise he would be wasting away on the Birmingham bench never to be seen again.
11 Jan 2026 13:52:01
Wow every time we are looking for a striker that slow useless lump is thrown in the pot.
He isn't great at holding the ball up, he is slow, and yes maybe physical, but no way would he score 15 goals.
11 Jan 2026 14:07:55
We could do worse than Dykes, he's an absolute handful for any defence, he used to give us a hard time when he was at Livi, he knows the league and would be better than a 2m project player that we'll no doubt end up with.
11 Jan 2026 14:55:23
Aldo, what are you smokin?
There's far better out there, if only we could drag the scouting department away from FIFA on the XBox.
11 Jan 2026 15:33:33
If that is our level of ambition we are in trouble.
I am not convinced with his goal numbers he would help us win the league and if we do, can you imagine relying on him leading the line in CL qualifiers. Not a chance would I risk our season and the next one on that pondering lumberjack.
11 Jan 2026 16:46:08
Guys I live in Birmingham lots of mates blues fans including my son. I watch them when no Celtic games, Dykes is a terrible player. In fact Iwata has played well for them, Kyogo so poor and Paddy Robert's not bad but lacks finished product. We got the best out of 2 of those above.
11 Jan 2026 17:04:38
I would prefer Bowie.
11 Jan 2026 10:32:55
Great finishes yesterday from yang and engles, players looked happy and knew what the manager was asking for, difference in even hatate and tounekti was evident.
11 Jan 2026 12:10:43
What a difference when you play with a defence.
I thought the ginger Baresi was outstanding yesterday but allegedly not good enough for the Nancy circus.
Engels played much better going forward. Wish he would hold onto the ball more rather than firing one twos straight back to the defenders though.
Tounetki looked more like the player who first arrived in the summer. Needs to use Tierney's over-lapping runs more though, so his cut inside is less predictable.
Both Maeda and Kenny are very rapid but lack composure. I'd wager both would have snatched at the Nygren goal and probably miss.
Overall, a much better performance. Could have scored more but more importantly, much more solid in defence, so much so, Schmeichel was a spectator. Really pleased for MON, SM and the team as I feared the damage Nancy inflicted could have hung around for a week or two more.
MN now needs to step up to the plate and get the required players in pronto. Should he fail again, I think the protests could hit new levels, regardless of how well the team are doing.
11 Jan 2026 16:19:42
To be fair to Nancy trusty was the better option as you need speed when you play one at the back.
11 Jan 2026 08:23:51
In 2025, our club achieved record revenues of approximately £145 million. However, for 2026, I predict a significant downturn, with revenues dropping to around £100-110 million unless we manage to secure player sales during this window. The primary factors contributing to this decline will be the loss of Champions League participation and a reduction in player sales. Additionally, we can expect lower matchday revenues, including ticket and merchandise sales, further impacting our financial outlook.
If these predictions hold true, we're likely to face a major downsizing next season, with several high-paid players needing to be sold in order to comply with UEFA regulations. This, coupled with the disastrous appointment of Nancy, which has proven to be costly both on and off the pitch, means I don't foresee significant investment in the squad this window. We're likely to see the club return to bargain-bin deals and loan signings once again and I would not be surprised if Maeda is sold to offset the cost of incoming players and give a more favourable balance sheet next summer.
Given this, I suspect many of us will be left disappointed when the window closes. Meanwhile, the board will likely be clutching their rosary beads, hoping that Martin O'Neill can deliver the title. If he doesn't, the consequences of their mismanagement could become even more catastrophic.
11 Jan 2026 11:17:09
As we approach the second week of the window, still without a quality striker, I also feel they will use yesterdays performance and result to foolishly rest on their laurels. We may see a loan deal or two depending on any players leaving this month, but I would be amazed if we make any significant signings partly because of the £millions they paid to install the revolving door in the managers office.
A lack of forward planning and common sense might also see us losing out on CL money again next season if mistakes and complacency continue.
11 Jan 2026 11:47:08
I know I can always come on here and get cheered up by WeeJoe knowing there is someone worse off than me.
11 Jan 2026 12:03:27
Do you dispute what I am saying Greentreee?
11 Jan 2026 12:43:38
Rodgers is to blame for CL failure and no surprise we can't sell his terrible signings! Meada won't be missed!
11 Jan 2026 13:57:24
