Question for all, going as far back as you're able, what are your most memorable games against Rangers, pre or post their Administration and the reason why?
1980 cup final for me for nail biting tension and the elation at the end.

I also think of the 2 victories within 10 days of each other at Paradise towards the end of 2008 season that changed what looked like a shoo in for them to win the league into us winning it. A few lows obviously but loads of great memories. I could go on but will stop there.

Any Victory against them Rangers/ Sevco pleases me. if I were to pick two it would be the 1957 League Cup 7-1, the reason being, as an 8 year old boy a victory against them was rarer than hens teeth and the second was the 1966 New Years game at Celtic Park 5-1,they scored in the first minute and five second half goals was incredible on frost hardened surface and it was the start of our nine in a row. There are many more memorable victories against either of the two clubs, too many to mention but those two bring happy memories for me.

2.) 11 Jun 2024 16:09:52
10 men won the league.

3.) 11 Jun 2024 17:08:20
The 6-2 game and chip from Henrik over klos. The 3-0 with hoopers sliding in to score. The atmosphere was brilliant, remember feeling the stand rocking and noticed the bid speakers from the stadium roof moving from side to side.

4.) 11 Jun 2024 18:09:46
Good question 9iar,

The first game I remember watching was the 1980 Scottish Cup Final on TV.
I was at my first Celtic match only a couple of months earlier but I only remembered the score.

Winning the New Year match in our Centenary season was special, especially the McStay pass for the first goal.
Also winning another New Year game 10 years later which helped stop the 10.
The Lambert goal was incredible.

My biggest victory against Sevco was when CCV scored a comeback winner at Ibrox.
That victory was absolutely massive and Sevco still haven’t recovered.

Before that match,
I mentioned to my Son that Celtic will again dominate for many years, if we secured a victory.
That’s exactly how it’s playing out ?.

5.) 11 Jun 2024 18:35:05
As an aside, when was the last time I heard the whole place rockin' to the Soldiers song? I'll defer to the guys who go to the games.

6.) 11 Jun 2024 18:51:11
The best I can remember signing the Soldiers Song, was when Celtic beat Rangers 2 Sundays in a row.
( 2-0 and 3-0 )

7.) 11 Jun 2024 19:57:33
2 of my personal favourites were the 2-0 game at new year, when Lambert and burley scored and we stopped 10 in a row.

The other being the 3-0 game at Celtic Park just before their club died. ?.

8.) 11 Jun 2024 20:43:13
What about Lubo ‘s first goal against them . Was it Keevins that said the miserable Celtic Board could have signed John Spencer for £500,000 and instead signed Dr Joe friend the unknown Lubo for £300,000.

9.) 12 Jun 2024 02:34:57
Cracking memories Oldkilly you must've seen some great victories in your time! For me the first 10 mins of the 6-2 game was just fairytale stuff.

10.) 12 Jun 2024 08:44:57
I was still at school, fourth year when I was privileged to be at the 4.2 game, 10 men won the league. Been to plenty of great wins. Hampden riot game, Charlie’s chip at Ibrox. But, the 4.2 game was literally stuff of legends. Still got a sore neck after being lifted and thrown about by a massive guy who crushed several vertebrate. Worth it though.

11.) 12 Jun 2024 10:55:37
Jorge Caddetes first goal against Aberdeen in the 5_0 game. I thought the roof was blown off by the noise.

Loved Larssons chip as well.

12.) 12 Jun 2024 13:37:23
4-2, 10 men … atmosphere in the jungle that night was off the scale …. They only needed to draw to win the league that night.
BBC then lost (destroyed) the recording of the game … some things never change ?.

13.) 12 Jun 2024 14:32:50
I could go back a few years but in recent times I have to say the 3-0 game in Ange's first season at Parkhead.
It was that game I finally knew we had something going on.

14.) 12 Jun 2024 14:43:26
Never really remember the games the goals however….

Larsson in the 6-2 game.
Nakamura’s 30 yard swerve driver
Suttons late late chip.
Probably my top 3.

15.) 13 Jun 2024 00:00:40
Davidb66 did the noise not blow the airwaves on the radio?

Given the topsy turvy season just passed when any game was a potential banana skin, I'm enjoying the break of not worrying each week how Celtic will fare. Yes we weren't good a lot of the time and yes, an important close season of incomings and outgoings await BUT our points total (93 I think) still warrants of big Well done to BR and the players. I hope they enjoy their well earned hols, as I do for you Ed ?. Cheers again for all you do, especially my sometimes crappy posts.

{Ed007's Note - No worries mate.}

1.) 11 Jun 2024 18:16:03
When Celtic have a good season, I always want the summer to drag in.

I enjoy experiencing that feel good factor without any pressure.
I also want our rivals to experience maximum torture throughout the summer.

2.) 11 Jun 2024 20:07:39
Next season FC win pre season every year. Stars, future Real Madrid players, future Premiership players.

06 Jun 2024 16:17:10
Not Celtic related but about Euros. I've a lot of time for the players who'll represent England as they give me a lot of enjoyment via MOTD and super Sunday. The way I'm feeling right now, I want them to do well, even win the whole shabang. But if recent tournaments are anything to go by, I usually do a U turn coz the arrogance and hype the deeper they go into tournaments is nauseating. What are your thoughts guys?

9iar

1.) 06 Jun 2024 17:11:45
Get them out asap.

2.) 06 Jun 2024 17:11:47
Feck you'd never hear the end of it. its a no from me.

{Ed007's Note - I'd rather they cancelled the tournament and just give the trophy to Israel who than see England win it. And I know Israel aren't in it.}

3.) 06 Jun 2024 17:47:13
I don't want England to win a corner!

4.) 06 Jun 2024 18:07:17
Since I was 6, all I've heard is 1966, I cannot spend whatever time I have left hearing about 1966 and 2024, so god no.

They are unbelievably self indulgent,

5.) 06 Jun 2024 18:18:08
I am flabbergasted, my summer would be completely ruined if England won Euros, I am just about getting over the home won World Cup in 1966 and i certainly don’t want to have to listen to them again.

6.) 06 Jun 2024 18:26:23
I think your at the wind up 9iar ?.

7.) 06 Jun 2024 18:27:06
It was Saturday 30th July 1966 and I was 18, I watched it on BBC TV, and was totally deflated. I was sure Germany would win.
I had a date to take my then girl friend to the pictures and the first thing she said to me was 'Isn't it great that England won the World Cup? '
We did not last long.

8.) 06 Jun 2024 18:30:03
The whole of sky spotts tonight was about Englands players who didn't make or wer sent home, youl be lucky if Scotland get 5 mins coverage when ther final selection is named. unfortunately a can see them winning as the press keep telling us they have the best players playing in the best league.

9.) 06 Jun 2024 18:39:20
I could never watch Sly sports news again if England win it.

10.) 06 Jun 2024 19:36:45
I won’t lose any sleep over the ex GAA player and under age Irish player Grealish getting dumped out of England’s Euro squad .

11.) 06 Jun 2024 19:37:48
While they have some great players, they have many deficiencies at the back. For that reason I cannot see them winning. Not to mention Southgate is a terrible manager.

12.) 06 Jun 2024 20:11:48
Aaaargh. ????.

13.) 06 Jun 2024 20:25:17
When England eventually get knocked out the English commentators will say the players have had a hard season, that and other excuses will be used.

14.) 06 Jun 2024 23:49:31
Engerland, Union and St. George's flags, 1966, 'its coming home', penalty shoot outs, national anthem, arrogant self important wank*ers for commentators - it's a naw from me.

? ? ?

☘️ ? ☘️.

15.) 07 Jun 2024 07:47:03
9iar,
In most cases the hype etc. is created by the media and not the players and manager.

As for MOTD? I cannot stand Lineker and his jolly boys club with shearer and wright etc.
Never successfully managed a club but can, as 'experts' tell us what the manager SHOULD have done.
Same as them standing up and moving players around the pit by computer. IF this player went there and IF he had.
Aye, IF my aunty had a pair she would be my uncle.

England winning! Are you serious?
Still droning on about 1966 so NO THANK YOU.

28 May 2024 13:05:11
I continue to bask in the satisfaction and pleasure of winning the Double. Yes, on many levels, the season was difficult and stressful but tbh, because it was a lot closer this season, I'm enjoying our success more than recent seasons. Might watch the cup final again ?.
Btw it was only closer coz we regressed, not because they got better.

9iar

1.) 28 May 2024 13:38:44
Apart from the goal you couldn't pay me to watch that game again possibly worst final I've seen.

2.) 28 May 2024 15:10:36
9iAR,

Likewise I was back out celebrating on Sunday as well. It was sweet… even agreed to go and see the Wolf Tones in Finsbury Park on 5 July (which will be a good day to be outwith Glasgow City centre) …. couple of drinks in the Cock Tavern and then a few stops on the tube?

I only got a ticket on Thursday night… so was raring to go by Saturday.

We do need to get the recruitment better. It’s never going to be perfect but we need a better spread of good signings.

I am confident of us getting 2 or 3 quality signings in and getting better.

Idah has surprised me. More composed and better on the ball that I first thought. We could do worse.

3.) 28 May 2024 16:45:25
Celt65 . Your last line indicates all the problems are recruitment team have, just as Idah surprised many of us by being better than you and most of us thought .

The opposite is also true after careful watching and analysis of a prospective new player, Celtic decide to buy and subsequently this new player turns out to be more of a disappointment than our recruitment team and us fans originally thought.
So with the best will in the world and through nobody’s fault some of our buys will be less composed and worse on the ball than we first thought. The only sure way to improve team, is to hold on to existing players that club and fans are happy with, so that we can keep recruitment to a minimum, only signing from a position of strength, not because we are desperate because existing player in a certain position is not good enough, because we can’t guarantee the replacement will fit in and improve team . If we are signing to improve our enhance a position we are already strong, then if new player doesn’t measure up, we aren’t in a bad position as we were already strong.

4.) 28 May 2024 17:33:43
Wee Des 1,

Don’t disagree with anything you say. We signed 11 or 12 players last season, which was too much and mostly relied on what we had, apart from Idah, Palma, Kuhn and Bernardo. Although none of these were always playing, but they did all contribute and played their part in our success.

I do think our recruitment was flawed this season both in numbers and personnel. My point is I would expect a better ratio on success, although as you say it’s very difficult to be successful in the recruitment business.

I actually felt we needed 3 good signings last year and maybe 2 or 3 for the future. I feel the same this year.

A little rest for most but I guess someone will be working on bringing players in for us as we type!

Certainly agree that we should build on what we have and not change things too much… incrementally and keep the good team spirit and understanding.

Listen to SSB lads, meltdown over the 'goal' that wasn't. Wee Kenny on as well. ??.

I agree the killing in Palestine is horrible. It's a football site so I'll limit what I'm about to say to 2 sentences. The root of this horrible conflict is found late in the book of Numbers and 1 Kings of the bible. Basically the infant country Israel mucked up big style what God told them to do and as a result, almost constant conflict in the area has ensued. I appreciate this will not be included in many people's worldview and I respect that but the Old Testament is full of the conflict as a result of the Jews disobedience.

It was one of these stories you remember where you were. Total disbelief. He could have turned out a Celtic legend but took the 30 pieces.

{Ed007's Note - If only Celtic had agreed to pay his tax bill like Murray did eh? And it was probably more than 30 pieces.}

Aye TinyTim, I genuinely wish the England players well but just 5 mins into watching their punditry, I do a U turn and want them beat. Shame though coz as I said a few weeks ago, these players entertain me each week on TV.

That's what I'm thinking. Calmac and co are good domestically but that's all. From a Celtic slant, last night was another indicator of what we already know what's required to improve in Europe.
Off an a tangent here. I didn't watch the game last night (I watched a rerun of the 1980 cup final) but did McKenna get minutes last night? In a domestic context only, he may be worth a pint if he's a free.
