Congratulations to BR and squad equalling the 50 year unbeaten record in his short period here.
Looking forward to the future with this run, no doubt CL qualifiers has to be a given if he gets the continued board support and back up.

Does anyone really believe we could win the champions league? I'm not saying with this team but say for instance Rogers stays and wins five in a row and we have been qualifying for the champions league each season we could spend 15/ 20 million a season on quality players. I think if you bought wisely with the players we have at the moment tierney dembele etc we could have a potential world class team capable of challenging anyone on there day. Would love to know everyone's thoughts?

25 Jan 2017 22:58:24
In the grand scheme of things we have a decent team with one or two potentially top class players. There is scope for us to improve further but never to a level where we can win the Champions League I'm afraid, nowhere near it as long as we play in the Scottish Premiership.

Agree2 Disagree3

25 Jan 2017 22:42:43
There's not a chance we'll win the champions league mate! And that's not me being negative because I like your thinking and positivity! But 15 to 20 million for the next 5 seasons is still small change in champions league terms! We mite be lucky with the draw a couple of times and reach last 16 but that's it bud! Look at the last 8 of the champions league the last 5 seasons.

I don't know the exact amount but I'm guessing there won't be a massive amount of teams out with the big 5 leagues. its frustrating to think there's only so far we can go but I'm afraid that's the reality in today's football world! And it will only get worse by the way. the money going about now is obscene and we'll fall further and further behind.

Unless england germany spain italy and france suffer a catastrophic financial collapse, it will never happen again im afraid. Rangers fans are allowed to dream of winning our league, so why can't we dream of winning the big one, again. Like the Rangers fans dreams though, its all pie in the sky.

{Ed007's Note - What about a #GoingFor2 campaign during the CL next year? ;-) It's about as believable as the going for 55 garbage.}

25 Jan 2017 23:14:30
Leicester City ring any bells?
Team struggling then wins EPL now back in reality and might survive relegation this season.
It happens, but it would be that million to one opportunity with all the stars aligning with the cusp of Sagittarius and the moon turning blue. not realistically going to happen but not out of the realms of possibility.
Seriously, the CL is weighted against teams like ours. YES in 1967 we blew all predictions but today is a different world (we can dream and who knows? )

Our progress this last 6 months has been pretty remarkable. We are a different beast and that's mainly because Rodgers has been allowed to take control of the footballing side. For the first time in a few seasons we are acting like we want to be a dominant Celtic again, We look in fine shape on and off the park. I will be happy with getting through the qualifiers and giving a good account of ourselves in the Champions League group stages over this next 2 to 3 years. At home we have the Manager and players to win back to back trebles, Not saying it will be easy but that should be our target. If you look at the players who are on our bench at the moment they would all walk into the Sevco, Aberdeen and Hearts teams with ease. That shows how strong we are compared to the rest at the moment

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Jan 2017 07:38:01
Rodgers did say he would have us as a last 16 team in three years so who knows but if we could consistently get to the last 16 then anything is possible

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Jan 2017 09:28:31
Since uefa doctored and pockled the tournament to suit television and ensure the rich get richer, the integrity and fairness has been lost to greed and elitism.
Thankfully we already have that gold star on the jersey to remind us of a time when skill, flair and guts was enough.

26 Jan 2017 10:06:42
fk me

we go from non qualification 2 years in a row, including bottom of our eu league group to winning the CL.

what was the costs of not even the bench - but the players who didn't make he SQUAD of the CL winning teams over the last ten years - probably more than at least double our entire teams worth.

We would need 6 top players at least, all injury free, tactics 100% spot on, and a colossal amount of luck in the draws and in the games.

I know we can be deluded. let's first get to a place/ squad where we can qualify every year, then a squad where we can make the next round every year, then and only then with some luck could we even ever contemplate making a final.

Agree0 Disagree1

26 jan 2017 10:30:10
och we've already won the european cup let's go for something more prestigious we haven't won like the petrol station cup, what do you mean they retired it after sevco won it and changed its format? it was so difficult to win by the way it took sevco four years to win it, seemingly all the joiners and 'brickies' they played against built walls to stop them scoring lol.

Agree1 Disagree1

26 Jan 2017 11:01:50
No we can't not chance, it's a shite tournament that the big countries have got together and made it practically impossible for a club like ours to win and every year they dream up new qualifiers and fair play rules to make it even more impossible, you mention Leicester but the dreadfully overrated epl is taking steps and having meetings to make sure that anomaly doesn't happen again.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2017 11:38:12
The good thing for me about that post, is that it shows how far we've come in a short time.
Imagine that being posted last year?

Let's enjoy the ride we're on. One game at a time and all that.

Brown was immense last night, I was desperate to see him score.

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Jan 2017 13:59:55
Martin O'Neill spent millions of pounds on proven English Premiership players like Sutton, Hartson, Lennon and Thompson and they struggled to get us out of the group stages.

We are not shopping anywhere near that calibre of player now and never will again so no danger of getting anywhere near winning the CL.

Priority has to be improving the squad year on year and when it does come to losing a Dembele or a Tierney that the manager is allowed to soften the blow with a decent replacement. Too many times in the past we have taken the cheap option (Ambrose over Ciani or Pukki or Finbogsson) and it has ending up costing us more in either mistakes on the park or paying someone off.

Ive been impressed with Forrest this season, been a huge improvement. I definitely think its time to get roberts in from the start though. Forrest runs about a lot, but doesn't create much. Especially at home Roberts needs to start. Can beat players so easily that he'll always create chances. Forrest on the bench is a different option, but Roberts definitely needs a good run of games now!

On another note I was quite impressed with big Boyata. Seems to attack the ball well when attacking a corner. We rarely score a good headed goal so well done big man!

Believable4 Unbelievable1

25 Jan 2017 22:24:58
Roberts will be gone at the end of the season, Roberts himself said that he wants to go back to city probably the chance of playing for pep and you couldn't really blame him. I would love us to sign him but can't really see it, with that in mind I would use him as an impact player someone you can put on after Forrest has ran the left back in to the ground.

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Jan 2017 07:52:12
I get your point, but a loan player is always going back to his parent club. So shouldn't be a reason not to play.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2017 11:05:48
Yes me and the boys were saying the same thing last night, we think br starts Forrest because he gives the right back much more cover and Roberts finds it easier as James has run the opposition left back into the ground.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2017 11:40:27
I was thinking the same - very few headers from set pieces.
For me if PR was our player I would start him until then keep forest developing, working on his game and. Yielding confidence.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2017 18:39:01
Forrest has been impressive for about 6 games max. He is useless if he can't get past his man. Roberts glides by 2/ 3 players in one move. Not buying into this about forrest getting a game before roberts cos roberts is on loan. Hands down roberts should be starting ahead of forrest as he is better player so when roberts leaves then invest in someone that's better than forrest. Forrest just has not got an end product.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Jan 2017 23:14:16
Yayo, your spot on mate, u play if best players as often as possible. People keep going on about well play Forrest cause he's our player, were these the same folk raving about denayer n guidetti playing every game, despite not being our own players, I doubt it very much.

Roberts is quality, he proved it last season n he's showed it every time he's been given either a run of games or coming off the bench, straight away last night we looked more likely to open up the saints as he glided past players with ease, and that isn't just when defenders r tired, he was quality against city when he started n scored n him rogic n Sinclair for me just screams quality.

Ed007 also made a great point t recently about criticising lustig don't seem to realise that Forrest barely ever tracks back n it means it's 2 on 1 against lustig.
Roberts works the right side likenakamura n works in my opinion better with lustig.
And as another poster said if we don't sign Roberts then I want us to sign someone with class in that attacking mould, Roberts, rogic n Sinclair, any of those 3 types of player as each is different n so good.

James unfortunately for me just doesn't bring enough in an attacking sense, finishing, final ball n even beating a man n like Gordon I'd rather they were replaced with better quality.
Hail hail

Fantastic result considering what we were up against. I thought St. Johnstone were absolutely pathetic tonight. Play 11 behind the ball for 90 mins and hope for a draw? I'd rather lose a game 3,4-0 and have a go than lose 1-0 and play like a bunch of knuckle draggers! And btw some of the tackles that went unpunished were a disgrace! How that Dirty looking scumbag Paton plays professional football is beyond me! Good result in the end. Hopefully Sunday Hearts have a go! There going to extra time tonight so they might not have much left in the tank come Sunday! HH.

So the word must be out, come to paradise, park the team bus, get a goal scored against you and then decide to play a wee bit of football. Throw in some dicey officials and it's just another night in the SPFL. Boring and predictable from visiting teams, stifling our free flowing play. It's actually a bit disgusting if you had been a StJ fan paying all that money to watch that garbage from their team. On the plus side, we march on unbeaten and are about to break records! Roll on Hearts, at least they try so it should be a better game than that guff we seen tonight from yet another visiting team too scared to play football.

25 Jan 2017 14:14:56
Hi Ed, Hope you are well.

Been checking on Saidy Janko's progress (or lack of it) since going to Barnsley on loan. Pretty grim reading. Since joining on July 1st Barnsley have played 7 pre season games followed by 30 League games. He has not started one game. He has been in their squad 7 times.

v Wolves. came on 82 minute and scored on the 85th minute.

v Reading. came on 68th minute.

v Wigan. Came on 91st minute.

v Nottm Forest. came on 74th minute.

v Birmingham. came on 89th minute.

v Sheff Wed. came on 79th minute.

So in total he has played 58 minutes of football since moving. I don't see what benefit this loan has been to himself, us, or Barnsley. Has he been injured? If he hasn't it makes me think the club is correct to send our youths out to Morton, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, Walsall etc where they will atleast get game time. Maybe Janko was sent to Barnsley in the hope the would buy him rather than help his development. Both now look unlikey going by these stats.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - That doesn't make for very good reading at all. I'll take a guess that he will be freed or sold for a nominal fee in the summer.}

25 Jan 2017 14:49:31
There is always a reason players don't get a game in this case it looks like the players attitude is at fault, let go by Man U and now us he needs to knuckle down or he become just another statistic

Looking forward to tonight's game, going with the girls and it will be first home game since before Christmas due to Mrs T's illness.
So I will put this up for debate, I am in two minds about the current Celtic team equalling or even surpassing the Lisbon Lions unbeaten record.
Big Jock and the Lions are immortal and beat many many records but they did it over a number of years, as much as I am enjoying Brendan and our current team they are nowhere near Stein's team, not yet anyway.
Achieve 10 in a row and win a european trophy then I will change my mind.
Until then I grew up in the Stein era and cherish what Big Jock and the Lisbon Lions gave to us. hail hail
