Anyone else seen the pic that's been doing the rounds tonight of a guy in a Lyon jacket who was on a flight from Paris to Edinburgh and was apparently accompanied by a Celtic official? If so, who is it? Looks like Rachid Ghezzal but he is now a free agent. Maybe the best jacket he has for the Scottish weather? Right winger so plausible.

I think the 'mystery' player BR was referring to last week is Bojan!

"Working on it for 6 months" - there were rumours we tried to take him on loan in Jan and also rumours Lee Congerton met with him a couple of weeks ago.

"A number 10" - used to be a striker but has played as a number 10 since being at Stoke.

"Pedigree" - Barca, Milan, Roma, Ajax (Stoke haha) - he certainly has that

"Cost a significant amount" - well he's coming from the EPL which automatically means a chunky fee - £6mil or thereabouts you'd think

Not certain but Bojan ticks all the boxes of the player BR described. How we can get it done sooner rather than later!

LM67

1.) 07 Jul 2017 09:56:32
Possible lm but again it'll be wages.

2.) 07 Jul 2017 10:44:08
BR has said he is after an number 8 a ball playing center mid. anyone who heard the twenty minute tims podcast before it was pulled that same morning it was released will have heard this from BR. he said no 8 was his priority then a CH. depending on the PR situation a RW. he also said a 3rd striking option he would like.

3.) 07 Jul 2017 10:58:20
Its a Rogic type player he is looking at, final 3rd baller type player, Bojan would be outstanding imo, but its a wage thing, Id be surprised if we sign anyone from the EPL overrated and overpaid, If Ake worth 20 mill what's jozo worth?

4.) 07 Jul 2017 11:20:03
You could be right LM, and I hope so too. Certainly got pedigree, probably on 40k a week and would cost 6-7m if we negotiated well and Stoke dropped that asking price. I certainly think we need a CAM over a CM as Rogic is still a concern for me fitness wise and only Bojan would come close to him ability wise compared to the rest of our squad. Would certainly be the level of quality we're all waiting for. Would just be a shame to see Rogic on the bench, but that's ruthlessness, and that's what is needed to get quality over quantity.

5.) 07 Jul 2017 14:23:52
Didnt BR say he had power and pace? Not sure Bojan fits that description.

6.) 07 Jul 2017 15:11:49
I was thinking that rayman. Didn't want to p*iss on LM's parade though. I must have missed the mention of a number 8 and 10. It could be any position really.

29 Jun 2017 23:14:24
Rodgers saying Armstrong contract will hopefully be tied up at some point during the season.

So nothing imminent. Which is worrying to say the least.

LM67

1.) 29 Jun 2017 23:32:22
What's worrying? If he wants to play for Celtic, then sign up and enjoy the club and fans. If not off you pop and we move on.

2.) 30 Jun 2017 09:44:41
He's a good player but to be honest with the money we have we could replace him easily with an outstanding attacking midfielder. Not a worry at all imo.

3.) 30 Jun 2017 19:14:28
I think it's a bit worrying LM (within the realms of football that is anyway Obi-Wan) . Five months he's free to talk with clubs. Why wouldn't both parties just get it done.

4.) 30 Jun 2017 19:21:26
Do you think that the boy from Ipswich is the one Rodgers was talking about hoping to get in with power strength and quality?

28 Jun 2017 22:36:35
"If I get the next signing in then I’ll be really happy, ” he said. “It’ll give us real great power and strength and quality. Then we can push on and wait and see what becomes available. ” - BR

Sounds like a centre half to me. JKD?

LM67

1.) 28 Jun 2017 23:34:01
Fingers crossed.

2.) 28 Jun 2017 23:45:12
Hopefully he's not talking about the boy from Ipswich that we have acquired. That would be a kick in the stones.

3.) 29 Jun 2017 01:04:06
When did he say this anyway?

4.) 29 Jun 2017 02:51:28
Anyone see the news that Borini is having a medical at AC Milan tomorrow?
Seems that could indicate next summer (this Jan) we will get a cash + Borini deal? I don't see Milan buying Dembele as a starter right now, so having Borini as cover for them instead might just work well for both clubs?

5.) 29 Jun 2017 06:38:21
Post match interview in one of the papers.

6.) 29 Jun 2017 20:57:07
Adrian? Are you high?

7.) 30 Jun 2017 14:40:52
Are you high? Can't even spell my name accurately xD
What's wrong with my logic anyway?
We were supposed to be interested in Borini, AC want/ wanted Dembele. Seems logical for them to do a deal for a later date. And if he does well at AC, then good for them.
Please pick holes in it rather than ask if I'm on narcotics next time xD.

8.) 01 Jul 2017 06:55:49
Hes went on loan adriaen, he's still a sunderland player.

28 Jun 2017 21:35:21
Celtic set to sign Kundai Benyu from Ipswich. Probably for the development squad.

LM67

1.) 28 Jun 2017 23:52:13
Was he not banished to non league football after a bust up with mick McCarthy questioning his attitude? Seem to recall west Brom or west ham having a sniff at him just before he disappeared. Hope he's sorted his head out.

05 Jul 2017 22:03:19
Heard anything new transfer wise Ed, in or out? Seems to have gone quiet since the Musonda links but Rodgers still hopeful of getting someone in soon apparently.

LM67

{Ed007's Note - I've not heard anything new.}

1.) 05 Jul 2017 23:14:59
Cheers Ed. Hopefully get a deal done soon and hopefully its a creative midfielder we sign next.

{Ed007's Note - If nothing happens before the weekend I doubt any new signing except for Hayes will feature next Friday.}

2.) 06 Jul 2017 00:04:42
Don't think anything would like happen here now anyway possible CH but will c.

3.) 06 Jul 2017 10:05:19
"Source" claims Musonda is likely to sign a new contract with Chelsea. BR was talking like we had something nearly over he line.

4.) 06 Jul 2017 10:16:00
If Armstrong stats I think we are ok in mid with him Brown McGregor rogic and kouassi Henderson possibly ajer biton filling in / rotating . out wide l think we could do with one more experienced player . with another in that would be 4 fighting for the two spots Sinclair hayes forrest and hopefully miller and nesbitt pushing them good thing here all 5 can play both wings and still Christie who I hope improves more this season on loan if he stayed I don't think we needed another. full backs u think ok leaving the priority for me a cb . strker and goalie where in each dept I think we are short.

5.) 06 Jul 2017 11:14:03
We need more creativity. McGregor and Rogic are the only 2 players who really create chances. Only 2 goals in preseason shows that, barely created any chances in those games either. What made Roberts so good was that he was a winger but with the ability to cut teams open with one pass. We need someone else who can do that from the wing. Won't be easy to find. Musonda would have been ideal.

6.) 06 Jul 2017 15:32:36
Griffiths 8 assists Armstrong and Sinclair 7 forrest 6 . now hayes who was the highest in league last year all more than rogic and forrest equal with mcgegor. (did you mean assists as regard to chances lm? ) I agree that a top drawer playmaker would be great . maybe if Armstrong goes one will come in . where does the boy musonda actually play lm. central or wide?

02 Jul 2017 14:11:09
Musonda looks a cracking talent, so much pace and ability. Exactly the type we need to push on in Europe. He'll rip teams apart domestically too. Very impressed with this deal if we can pull it off. Do you think its close Ed and have you heard good things about the lad?

LM67

{Ed007's Note - I don't know that much about Musonda but I was talking to Ed18 - a Chelsea fan - about him last night and he really rates him and will be disappointed if he leaves, he was hoping he would get some first team chances this coming season.
As well as Celtic there's another team (could be Monaco) that have spoken to Chelsea about Musonda and Chelsea would really prefer a loan move but they, like many clubs, are faced with youngsters who want guarantees of game time or a move away.}

1.) 02 Jul 2017 21:50:21
Lm. he's not got much first team experience behind him i think if he signs he will be played in slowly and European football could be a step above him at this time (would he not be getting gamed at chelsea if at that level? I haven't seen him ) let's let find his feet on spl first and foremost if Indeed he does sign . don't know if I've made this up but did I see pasilic of chelsea linked with us.

2.) 02 Jul 2017 22:33:35
So we're spending 5 million on a player to bed him in? Really? If you can't get a game for Chelsea are you saying you can't play at that level . As much as I love last season and where Celtic are going, realistically do we have any player who would get a game for Chelsea . No shame in that.

3.) 02 Jul 2017 23:57:46
Is this not the guy that's been playing for Real Betis on loan in La Liga for the last 18 months? Don't think he should need much bedding in playing against Killie, Thistle, Sevco and the likes.

4.) 02 Jul 2017 22:06:25
Cheers Ed. Hopefully we can seal the deal. The way Rodgers was talking yesterday made it sound like it was almost done. He obviously didn't name him but don't think he would have been so open at describing the sort of player he was unless he knew for certain that he'd got his man.

5.) 02 Jul 2017 22:06:25
Cheers Ed. Hopefully we can seal the deal. The way Rodgers was talking yesterday made it sound like it was almost done. He obviously didn't name him but don't think he would have been so open at describing the sort of player he was unless he knew for certain that he'd got his man.

{Ed007's Note - Fingers crossed it's him - or even Duverne!}

6.) 03 Jul 2017 11:39:10
It's all gone very quiet on the Duverne bid recently.

7.) 03 Jul 2017 11:26:28
He's been playing consistently for Real Betis for 2 years. where did bedding him in come from?

8.) 03 Jul 2017 11:28:36
Hope we get paired with Chelsea in the CL, to put to bed this inferiority complex that teams like Chelsea are so superior, I know they don't have any Maradonnas, or Pele's or Cruyff's or Bests or any genuine superstars in their team. they look better than they are because other teams give them and the Barcelona's of this world far too much respect, instead of attacking their weak points the other teams stand back in awe of being on the same football field as these overpaid, over hyped football mercenaries.

9.) 03 Jul 2017 11:32:56
Agree with you LM. We need players capable of doing something individually, and he looks like he's got great ability beating a man. Needs to start adding a few more goals but at just 20 there's no reason he can't start doing that with Celtic.

Quite excited about this one he comes with huge pedigree, despite the price-tag he is still a project. But I'd be looking to put him in that RAM spot no doubts.

10.) 03 Jul 2017 12:04:39
I think duverne has decided to stay where he is for another season kev! Sure it was Lille that bid for him but he didn't want to leave. mite be wrong but lol. would really like a quality centre back brought in but, thinks that's a priority! Like the look of this musonda, did quite well in la liga last year by all accounts. his goal return for an attacking player is pretty poor but to be honest! Has anyone actually confirmed that this is the player Brendan wants? Everybody is saying it's him, could it be someone else maybe? Lol.

11.) 03 Jul 2017 12:47:31
Mally . stevie . most of his games have been as a sub. he has appeared in 24 games in two seasons . inexperienced . unproven? . not a dig at both of you as i haven't seen the boy . have you seen him for betis? Did he stand out? . Young boy new club big transfer (for us ) so yes bed him in. liam he hasn't played at that level yet.

12.) 03 Jul 2017 17:58:43
Drb no probs but paddy was hardly tested mate the homework will have been done so think the bhoy will be ready to play imo.

29 Jun 2017 23:26:51
Just a hunch, but I think our next signing will be Martin Caceres.

LM67

1.) 30 Jun 2017 04:12:23
i would not describe him as strong and powerfull as Brendan had said.

2.) 30 Jun 2017 05:29:54
Ranocchia from inter perhaps? available at 4 mill.

3.) 30 Jun 2017 06:55:55
Strong and powerful does not mean the guy has to be built like Bobo Balde. I'd say Scott Sinclair was strong and powerful. Means diffefent things.

4.) 30 Jun 2017 08:06:45
Duverne.

5.) 30 Jun 2017 10:47:59
I really liked the idea of Joel Campbell, it could be good value and he does bring at fair bit of European experience and bags of pace and agression.

6.) 30 Jun 2017 15:18:28
Right mid would be my priority also Malika.

7.) 30 Jun 2017 19:16:24
McCarthy?

8.) 30 Jun 2017 23:58:53
reporting from France says the boy JD is staying put. have use heard anything about this possible deal or no deal?

25 Jun 2017 15:25:54
Joel Campbell could be available for around £3m this summer. He'd be a good replacement for Roberts.

LM67

1.) 25 Jun 2017 15:36:41
He would be a great addition, versatile player.

2.) 25 Jun 2017 23:13:42
I have mentioned Joel Campbell as a good option, he would run riot for us, was excellent for Costa Rica in the World Cup a couple of years back .

3.) 27 Jun 2017 18:17:46
Yeah UJ, we're skint. You keep telling yourself that mate.

4.) 27 jun 2017 18:27:57
uj i think you've been drinking too much red, red wine.

24 Jun 2017 10:42:42
I'm sure there will be a lot of disappointment at BR saying he only wants one more in for the qualifying campaign, but it seems like the sensible thing to do. Why bring in 3 or 4 players to disrupt a team that were superb last season? Mostly going with what we have allows us to continue with the players who know each other inside out. Get into the group stages and then bring in 1 or 2 quality players. Yes it takes some excitement out of the window but I think people are getting impatient because across the city they are signing players on a daily basis. The difference is, they need to, we don't. We got through the qualifiers last year with a team that's nowhere near as good as where we are just now. Don't forget that Ambrose and O'Connell started in Astana and Janko started in Israel! So, the question is, what position is BR targeting before the qualifiers and who is it he wants to bring in? I'd say right wing is the priority as you never know how forrest will play and hayes will need time to settle. Onyekuru would be ideal (or paddy obviously) . However, I think it will be a centre half we sign, and I think BR wants Jean Kevin Duverne.

LM67

1.) 24 Jun 2017 10:55:52
Only Celtic don't build properly on success, for me it's a lack of ambition within the club no to strengthen before the qualifiers. We are not giving the manager the chance to succeed.

2.) 24 Jun 2017 11:27:02
Strengthen what tho Dafa mate?, we've looked solid and went undefeated, If we bring in better quality in 3 or 4 players it could disrupt the fluidity of the team, we all had the same discussion last season and that turned out not to bad, We need to start backing the gaffer lads, as with the exception of de vries i can't think where he put a foot wrong so far, If he wants one in that's good enough for me.

3.) 24 Jun 2017 11:29:10
Agree Dafabet, apart from home game against Man City in Europe our squad isn't at a level to compete.

Quality of player has to be raised

Paddy out Hayes in means our squad is weaker.

4.) 24 Jun 2017 12:16:11
Am sure paddy hardly got a start first half of season and we were doing fine.

5.) 24 Jun 2017 12:31:16
To be honest, get a couple of quality players in when get to the group stages, no guarantee will, and nonsense in my opinion to think that top quality players will come in if qualify, still not going to change the fact that quality of a high standard only going to come in if give out high wages which we won't, that onyekuru would of been quality but he ain't interested, I reckon big gamble now if don't qualify, everyone will be moaning and dismayed, but to be fair if can't attract the players as play in a weak league with no money in it nothing Brendan can do unfortunately or the board to the point, just have to accept got to wheel and deal.

6.) 24 Jun 2017 14:03:12
The position that needs strengthened most for the CL is definitely the centre of our defence, none of the 3 we have are up to the standard required, I'm sure Brendan is aware of that, our team is well enough equipped to more than cope domestically, every signing Brendan's made has contributed to the team in some way, even DeVries who's mere presence gave Craig Gordon the kick up the a*se he was needing, Eboue Kouassi was bought with next season in mind and Jonny Hayes might not be the marquee signing we wanted but he is a good player who will more than do us a turn, listen I fully expect the Sevvies to put up more of a challenge next season, but none of their signings should duly concern us, let's trust in our manager he knows what we need and will do all he can to bring quality to the club 🍀 HH.

7.) 24 Jun 2017 14:09:36
We should easily have enough to beat Linfield even if we play our reserves. I'm hoping it will be a new CB that comes in as we seem to be a bit suspect still in that area. If we qualify for the group stages then hopefully that will attract the kind of player BR wants to bring in. ST and CDM maybe to follow. Although I'd be happy enough with seeing more of Eboue if we got rid of Biton then we would need a replacement.

8.) 24 Jun 2017 16:22:56
Drewzy - you're spot on mate. Can't argue with that.

9.) 24 Jun 2017 17:08:56
Boyata and Shev aren't good enough. We need cover at full back and if we want to step up then a midfield playmaker wouldn't go amiss. Also back up for Gordon.

Can't say I'm surprised at the lack of activity though. Disappointed but not surprised.

Happy to see Hayes replace Forrest though.

10.) 24 Jun 2017 18:41:48
I don't think that we should be complacent about the Champions league qualifiers, once we get past Linfield the teams from then on are mostly stronger than the teams we face in Scotland.
If you look at some of the teams we have faced in the last few years, Leiga Warsaw, Marlboro, Quarabag, Malmo, Astana, Hapoel, they've all been far better than anything in our country.
Hopefully we will qualify, but if the manager judges that we need strengthening, then I hope the club back him up.
I personally would look at all the teams that we could potentially draw, and try to make sure that our squad matches or betters the very best of them.

11.) 24 Jun 2017 19:30:51
The current team should beat any of the teams we can face on the qualifiers without any further new signings. That's a fact. I totally believe we will spend real money this window but most of it will be towards the very end. Keep the faith.

12.) 24 Jun 2017 19:43:22
There is no doubt that the club will back him. The issue is attracting players who can improve the team.

13.) 24 Jun 2017 22:17:01
When the squad is decent and with good comradeship it can be very difficult to add without breaking up the good relations between players and between players and manager . For instance if Brendan buys a good striker who comes in and does well
L G could be out the door and even Dembele could take to the road too. Instead of us having three good strikers, we could be left with one.

14.) 25 Jun 2017 01:22:01
The team just now should qualify for CL without any additions but please stop going on about getting CL standard players in, as if they would come to Scotland. Let Brendan do the worrying and let him build his team without going on every 2 mins about the lack of quality he has signed. After last season he deserves our full backing, Hail Hail 🇮🇪🍀🇮🇪.

15.) 25 Jun 2017 12:15:44
Chris, if you go on your argument we'd never sign anyone.
Players being unhappy because a better player comes in is no reason not to do it.
If you turn down a chance to sign a better player than Dembele, you would probably find that Dembele would move as soon as he gets the chance of a lucrative move.
In that case we would have lost out big time.

16.) 25 Jun 2017 14:02:52
Yeah we need to trust BR which we all do no question asked but one thing bugs me is Eboue K. Why bring him in as he hardly got a look in last year for big money I hope he steps up looks good but want more for that price.

You say wages are the issue Ed, does the boy seriously think he deserves to be our top earner!? £20k a week would double his current wage, he doesn't deserve more than that after one good season. Playing wise I don't think it will affect us too much. He obviously scored a good few goals but McGregor started to add that towards the end of the season. I also think Ntcham and Brown will be a more solid base which will allow us to play 4-2-3-1 all the time with Rogic in the team who has a better strike rate than Armstrong anyway. Its a shame cos he was improvint but oh well, he certainly won't go on to VVD or Wanyana level down there.

He'd be a fantastic signing. If it happens it would be once CL football is secured I think, the sort of player BR mentioned the other day with regards to EPL players becoming available in the last week of the window. He'd be our Coutinho.

Around £30mil is a good deal for us. The fact he has been injured 3 times in the last 6 months suggests it might be a good time to sell. If that was to become a regular pattern there could be no takers next summer. Good luck to him. We move on.
