Ed is there any truth in reports that Nigerian striker Stephen Odey is coming for a trial? Rodgers spoke a few months back of how African markets are an area we should be looking at. Does the job of getting a third choice striker without breaking the bank too, leaving the cash for more pressing matters.

{Ed007's Note - It's only a trial and to be put through his paces by the sports science guys. The fact we want a trial makes me think there's someone involved in the recruitment process not 100% sure about the lad.}

1.) 01 May 2017 17:02:46
In the YouTube clips he looks quick but a bit clumsy and rough round the edges.

2.) 01 May 2017 19:45:02
How long would a player normally get for a trial?

3.) 01 May 2017 21:51:40
He is going to Russia. He can't get a work permit for UK.

4.) 01 May 2017 23:32:49
There are other reports that AIK and Copenhagen are eyeing him. One thing's for certain, the vast majority of rumours are completely made up because BR said he wanted a couple of players and we've been linked with about 4 since the start of April with a good month of the season still to go!

5.) 02 May 2017 12:31:11
BR said he wanted a couple of quality additions, doesn't mean we'll only sign 2 players. I think we'll also be in the market for 3rd choice striker, competition for Gordon, back up to KT if Emilio goes and another centre back if Kolo retires and Ajer goes on loan again. With the 2 "quality additions" then being an attacking midfielder and a right winger to replace Roberts.

6.) 02 May 2017 18:20:06

{Ed007's Note - Aye and it was you that phoned the cops - jealousy's an awfy thing -
and it wasn't my fault your Mrs fainted, she did ask if I could put a tyre on it to make a swing!}

Ed do you know if Rogic got a bad injury yesterday? There were pictures of a guy in crutches on social media with people saying it was him. Could have been someone else or just an old picture. Looked like he was in an airport.

{Ed007's Note - Sorry I don't know anythibg about that. Last I heard was Rogic was fit ahd just missed oit on taking any part in the St Johnstone match the other day.}

1.) 09 Feb 2017 14:59:59
Sounds like this has been confirmed now : ( at least it makes team selection a bit easier, but I'd rather have him over most others.

27 Aug 2016 23:31:21
Cristian Gamboa from West Brom is the latest right back to be linked. Costa Rican international who is lightening quick but has struggled to get a game for West Brom. 1 year left on his contract so probably available for around £1-2 million.

1.) 28 Aug 2016 00:25:57
Callum Paterson is the man for me to solve our RB position. And as for a creative midfielder, I'd break the bank for Robert snodgrass.

2.) 28 Aug 2016 00:25:57
Nice price but wait not good enough for West Bromwich but good enough for celtic in champs league.
We should pass and go bigger. Maybe as a squad player but realistically, he's not getting his game at West Bromwich nor has hever so he'd have to prove himself and learn how we play and we have that with janko. Just go and get florian klein (stuttgart) only one year left, gets his game for club and country (austria) and had a good euros.

3.) 28 Aug 2016 10:23:16
Snodgrass has had real injury problems and I heard he had to go off again in yesterdays match against Man Utd?

{Ed001's Note - it was wet and slippy and he slammed into the post trying to get on the end of a cross. Probably only bad bruising knocking the wind out of him, though a broken rib or two at worst. Nothing to weaken his legs, so it won't affect the longevity of his career.}

06 Aug 2016 18:41:27
Rumours of a Russian agent at Celtic Park today. Has lots of players on his books including a keeper who is a free agent. Also rumours of us signing Michel Vorm. Anyone any more info on these?

1.) 06 Aug 2016 20:01:02
Sorry about spelling gulavov it's the free agent keeper deal nearly done .

2.) 06 Aug 2016 21:01:35
Just had a look for him and he is 33 this year. If we are going to bring in another goalkeeper why not one at 23, 24, 25 who can be a mainstay for years to come?

3.) 06 Aug 2016 23:18:02
Why not just a good one no matter his age.

4.) 07 Aug 2016 09:37:42
Maybe the wrong way of putting across that I would prefer a younger keeper we can invest in and improve rather than another stop gap.

We have to be signing first 11 players only now and an unheard of 32 year old Russian on a free doesn't sound like a good deal to me.

5.) 07 Aug 2016 10:32:48
makes sense to me if we can get a good keeper on a free, keep the dosh for better outfield players.

03 Jul 2016 11:30:31
African media linking us with 19 year old right back Musa Mohammed who plays his club football in Turkey.

What about Adnan Januzaj as a potential replacement for Roberts? Looked like he had world class potential when he burst on the scene a few years ago but been quiet since. Still only 22 and with bags of talent. Struggling to come up with other potential replacements. Would expect it to be a left footed player who cuts in from the right rather than someone who stays wide and gets crosses in like Forrest.

1.) 05 May 2017 05:28:18
LM67: there is a small issue on money with that deal . When he broke into the Man U 1st team and played well they gave him a new deal, if memory serves me well I'm sure he's on £80k per week atm .

2.) 05 May 2017 11:03:34
The daily rangers has us linked with McGinn. not the quality we should be looking at for me we need CL quality.

3.) 05 May 2017 13:09:19
Think januzaj is going to ac milan.

24 Apr 2017 23:12:06
What areas do people think Rodgers plans on filling with his two "quality" signings that will help us push on in Europe? I think a winger/ forward to replace Roberts will be the priority (unless we can keep him) . Still think Onyekuru would be the ideal signing. Also think we'll go for an attacking midfielder who can pick a pass. Think we are sorted defensively.

1.) 25 Apr 2017 07:21:10
Think we need another quality CB and quality striker to back up the 2 we have and if paddy goes a wide man with pace.

2.) 25 Apr 2017 09:06:40
I think a new RB, a top drawer No.10, and think Brendan will be looking to keep Roberts. That will be the priority buisness this summer I feel. Looking forward to this transfer window as Brendan hasn't signed a four year deal without the promise of significant investment from the board to guarentee Champions League qualification every year and 10 in a row.

3.) 25 Apr 2017 11:09:42
Certainly think we'll be after an attacking midfielder of some sort.

4.) 25 Apr 2017 14:43:06
Mally I know what your saying and I have seen the ed post similar but I don't think a quality forward would come and play third fiddle , I think Brendan will be looking for a wide player he can rotate with Forrest and be used through the middle as an auxiliary centre forward in an emergency.

5.) 25 Apr 2017 15:03:00
That's what I'm thinking fab. A wing forward, as well as a CAM. I think BR said he was after 3 quality players did he not? Either a CB or a Keeper for me then.

6.) 25 Apr 2017 15:33:40
Agree with a replacement for paddy and a quality attackin midfielder. but got to disagree that we're sorted defensively! We need a top class centre half IMO. its obvious Brendan doesn't rate Erik and there's no way boyata is the answer, not by a long shot! And as much as I like him and he's been great for us I think lustig is a liability at a higher level! Ok for Scottish league but we need better for Europe!

7.) 25 Apr 2017 21:30:55
Think Lustig would make descent centre half tall quick for a centre good on the ball.

8.) 25 Apr 2017 22:51:54
How much would it cost to get a better player than Boyata on current form? I get why people have reservations about him because he was a bombscare last year but he's been immense since he came in after the winter break. We've barely conceeded a goal when he's been on the park. Quick, strong, good in the air and in the tackle, positioning and ability on the ball improving all the time. I don't think there's many better centre halfs out there just now who we could afford.

9.) 26 Apr 2017 06:17:16
Boyatta got to remember he's a defender first and foremost, don't try to be creative just clear your lines, if there's any doubt in his mind don't overthink it just belt it up the park, a wee bit scary at times.

11 Mar 2017 00:28:08
I think BR will go with Armstrong, Bitton and Broony leaving no slot for Griffiths from the start. Also think he'll play Forrest if fit enough. Think we are more balanced with him in the side as we lack width on the right if its Roberts/ Lustig combo. Surprised at some of the comments wanting Boyata dropped. I'm sure Rodgers sees him as our number 1 centre back now. Plus he's a much bigger goal threat than Erik and Jozo. Think he's a good shout for first goal as they are very poor from set pieces.

1.) 11 Mar 2017 07:40:17
I think Boyata has improved to the point that he is virtually unrecognisable and I agree that of the three centre halves mentioned, he is most likely to score.
Personally though, I think Simunovic and Sviatchenko are our best pairing. I think Jozo is very strong in the air, tackling and has good pace whilst Eric is again great in the air, distributes the ball really well and is one of the best readers of the game I have seen in a long time - I REALLY rate him.
All that said, any combination on Sunday will be good enough against that lot - and by that I mean ANY, even Brown and Roberts if BR wanted to take the pee.
I reckon it will be about 4-0. And we can then enjoy the second half.
Providing there is not extreme intervention from the men in black., ., but that's probably being saved for the cup semi!

2.) 11 Mar 2017 08:01:25
Andy agree with Sviatchenko and Simunovic as the 2 centre backs. Great pairing. Better than Boyata who has done really well. Score wise i think its going to take a while to break them down. Its not often we score inside the first 25 mins as everyone sits in especially at Celtic Park. They will be happy to sit inside the box for 90 mins and if they got a point they would be shouting from the rooftops that there is no gap despite the fact that the gap would still be 33 points. that's how deluded they are. Instead of coming to try and win 3 points back they are coming to keep the score down. So 1-0 Celtic at half time. Sinclair to score. Full time 5-1 or 5-2.

3.) 11 Mar 2017 13:08:40
Ad go with erik and jozo purely because of ball distribution although boyata huge goal threat.

26 Feb 2017 23:19:16
Forrests injury is a big worry. Does anyone know how long Roberts is out for? Was hoping to give them an absolute doing in 2 weeks time but having no right wingers may make us a bit predictable with everything going down the left. If they are both out who gets the nod there? GMS who is nowhere near good enough? Griffiths who Rodgers tried in that position at the start of the season? McGregor whose pretty flexible? I'd probably go with him actually. Typical Forrest to get an injury during his best spell for years!

1.) 27 Feb 2017 00:55:51
Kris commons? Although one if not both will be back if not gms would be the favourite but hey it will still be a doing hh.

2.) 27 Feb 2017 02:29:54
What about gamboa think could do job at right wing with his pace.

3.) 27 Feb 2017 05:51:24
How bad is Forrests injury? I thought Roberts was back training?

4.) 27 Feb 2017 08:25:00
There's a good chance of Brown and Bitton in the middle with McGregor or Henderson in front and Armstrong out wide-right.

5.) 27 Feb 2017 11:17:31
reckon itll be mcgregor, played there for brendan b4.

6.) 27 Feb 2017 12:21:05
Wee mcgregor has played almost everywhere this season.

7.) 27 Feb 2017 12:47:15
If Forrest is out I hope that wee paddy gets back sharpish because GMS is nowhere near good enough to play for us! Watched him closely when he came on for forest on Saturday and again IMO he brings absolutely nothing to the team! I'll be stunned if he's there next season by the way, and how wee Christie got sent on loan and not him I'll never know.

8.) 27 Feb 2017 13:06:58
its a baffler why christie was loaned out before gms.

{Ed007's Note - Both Gary Mackay-Steven and Nadir Ciftci turned down the chance to rejoin Dundee Utd on loan because they didn't want to play in the Championship and in GMS case, Rodgers told him if he stayed, got back to full fitness/sharpness and continued to work hard in training he'd get a chance to show what he can do, the exact same scenario as he set out for Boyata.
Remember GMS missed preseason and the first 4/5 months of the season with a knee or ankle injury which had required an op during the summer.}

9.) 27 Feb 2017 14:27:06
On that basis, we are looking for GMS to start and turn in the same performances as boyata, or is that too much to expect?

10.) 27 Feb 2017 16:06:11
I just don't think GMS is good enough to be honest.
I do hope he rams theyou words down my throat though because he is a very likeable guy that seams to really enjoy and understand what it's like to play for celtic.

11.) 27 Feb 2017 16:49:03
Hes technically very good but imo he lacks the heart to play for celtic but again i hope he proves me wrong as well.

12.) 27 Feb 2017 17:31:41
Ideally want GMS to do well and thought he showed potential when he was signed and had a run of games. However, as well as having a good few injury problems he seems to take time to get his confidence up and needs to toughen up a wee bit - like Armstrong has done as he has fallen way down the pecking order and needs to grab this opportunity with both hands if he wants to stay here.

31 Jan 2017 23:50:15
Strange that Commons hasn't left. Could he be in the squad tomorrow night? Maybe seen as a potential back up striker. Can play that role

1.) 01 Feb 2017 06:51:38
He has a back problem

2.) 01 Feb 2017 15:36:46
More chance of cifti playing. Commons is highly unlikely to ever wear hoops again

Be sorry to see MD go but his injury record this season is a bit worrying (injured 3 times in last 6 months) . £25m+ for a player who could be injury prone would be sinsible business.

I just don't see the point in demoting Griffiths to third choice striker for a guy whose not really proven at any level, even the dutch league. Like you Ed I'd rather we brought in a youngster whose hungry for something other than money. Reminds me a lot of Jerome Sinclair going to Watford last year. Probably went for "first team football" when in reality he just wanted decent cash and hasn't bothered his backside getting into their that team. The fact Solanke is English puts me off too. We know they like to overrate their youngsters. Sterling and Stones being the prime examples. As long as you don't have 2 left feet you are worth at least £10m down there.

{Ed007's Note - It's a strange one and I'll be surprised if we ever find out what it would mean to LG's Hoops career if Solanke signed, RB Leipzig have shown interest and would probably be willing to pay the money he wants.
I'm probably reading too much into it but I just got a hunch if there was a deal available to sell LG Rodgers wouldn't stand in his way.}

12 May 2017 22:03:35
LG must stay. He has to be the one constant in the next 4 years. MD will be here one for season. Solanke could be similar. Think we may be getting our hopes up on Solanke in terms of ability. He's about 20 years old with about 10 goals to his name. And not like Moussa who had double that and also at a better level in the english championship. I certainly wouldn't give this guy Sinclair/ Moussa level wages.

{Ed007's Note - Neither would I mate. Yeah he deserves a few extra grand because we're getting him so cheaply but I wouldn't be spending a major piece of the wage budget on him. I'm not sure he has the right attitude to play for us, he seems a bit of a Pogba type character, all bling and his head shoved up his own ass. It's just all about the money to him and I imagine him as the total opposite of Dembele.
Rodgers knows the kid well though and if anything happens we should trust him and his staff's judgement, it could be the making of him as a man and a footballer, he'll soon get taken down a peg or two in our changing room if it's needed.}

Izzy is still a cracking player. He played for 3 months when KT was injured and was excellent. To call him 'deadwood' is laughable. Would people rather we let him go then spent money on back-up to KT that could be better used elsewhere? Need some continuity in the squad if we are to hit the ground running for the qualifiers.

If you don't think Rooney would tear teams apart up here you need your head tested. Never happen though. Held utd to ransom for bigger contracts before so no way he'd play for 30k a week!

Gutted that we didn't get a replay of his incredible first touch where he pulled the ball out the sky with superb control. Commentators didn't even mention it. I think Rodgers sees him as his Joe Allen. Neat and tidy and keeps things ticking over. Balance in midfield is great just now. All Scotsman too which is nice to see. Rogic will struggle to get his place back.

I think Sinclair just edges it. 25 goals in 22 different games is some record. He turns up every week. No surprise that Dembele had his dip in form when Sinclair was injured. He brings the best out of other players.

Don't even need to think about this one. One team had Henrik, one team doesn't. Simple as that.
