What can you see happening with regards to the right back position this month? I was optimistic at the start of the month when we were linked with Castagne and Elabdellaoui, but now we are being linked with a young boy from Porto B. He may turn out to be a good signing, but I just think Lustig needs to be replaced with someone with a bit more experience of a decent standard of football.

We got him for free and he’s given us 7 years of good service. I get what our business model is and am behind it most of the time but sometimes you need to spend either a bit more on transfer fees, wages or both to get the right quality in.

1.) 22 Jan 2019 01:02:54
My concern is if we try to go cheap again and the signings don't work out then it causes a major issue

Cos we have quite a big rebuilding job coming soon.

If the first signings like bayo don't turn out well then we will need to go spend again.

We could potentially waste all the profits we earn by going too cheap and wasting money as opposed to spending wisely. Fine line.

2.) 22 Jan 2019 08:50:10
My biggest worry is the way BR is talking about singing. It sounds very like the summer. Someone there needs to realise we can not keep buy cheap no bodies and hoping they turn good. We have way to many examples of failed attempts. BR has stated it's going to cost to get in a good right back but do u think Celtic will spend it. I'm not sure but l hope lm wrong. I fully understand the club has to be managed in the correct manner but one striker who's unknown from ivory coast and 2 loan players for 6 months is not good enough. Yes there is still time to add to the squad and hopefully a CB and RB will come in soon. Celtic are the club that are suppose to have the finances so l think the club need to spend within reason l agree to ensure we get the 2 or 3 quality players required to push on to the title. That mob across the city are seemingly throwing every penny they have and more to ensure they stop Celtic. It now time for celtic to respond with quality signing and finish them off once and for all.

3.) 22 Jan 2019 09:35:14
I think Dominic Iorfa could be a great bit of business, we should also probably pay a small fee to get him released from his contract early, however because lustig is still here and Ralston in contention we most likely will wait till the summer.
Iorfa played a big part in helping wolves get promoted, and at one point was wanted by a host of clubs.
BR might be the man to turn him into the player he was set to become. He's still young and versatile.
If rather we spent our money on someone like benkovic and get players like Iorfa in on a free.
As I've said before there is all sorts of hidden gems going cheap in eastern Europe, hopefully Baso will come in and prove that we can scout Eastern Europe leagues and get good deals.
No point spending big and it turns sour, it happens to plenty of clubs
Start giving our young lads a chance as well, Ralston first choice RB for rest of the season he will only grow as a player.

4.) 22 Jan 2019 11:39:38
Turner have you seen much of the wolves boy don't even think he was getting a game on loan and we will go for the cheapest rb we can get you just know it.

5.) 22 Jan 2019 12:28:42
I agree with you about Ralston. He was excellent on Saturday. If we had paid £5m for another right back and he had turned in a performance like that then we'd have been raving about him and stating that's what you get when you pay decent money for a player. HH.

6.) 22 Jan 2019 13:06:28
Rather than just going for the cheap option and getting an average player that ends up stockpiling the squad invest a bit of money for quality as it's a problematic position.

7.) 22 Jan 2019 13:11:33
Have to agree with u there bob. Not sure why BR keeps going on about a right back surely Ralston deserves a chance. I thought he had a good game in the cup and most times l have seen him he looks very tidy. Not sure why BR doesn't seem to like the lad. Ready made replacement for lustig there already and a home grown one at that.

8.) 22 Jan 2019 14:39:52
Ralston is nowhere near ready he’s like Izzy in the way he looks good going down the wing when we’re winning but is caught out defensively his positioning like Izzy is poor. Not saying get rid as in time with coaching he could get there but as no1 right back but for me not yet anyway.

9.) 22 Jan 2019 17:16:59
I think our business model is more than fine but occasionally you need to speculate to accumulate.
We need a 1st team RB now and should be able to afford a £5-8m player for that position.
Future stars come with an attached risk personally I want a proven international RB who will be ready for rest of season and for qualifiers early next season.

10.) 22 Jan 2019 18:43:04
Do nor see Ralston as anything other than a back up . Good against airdrie but equally poor against sevco.

11.) 22 Jan 2019 18:45:05
Every player comes with a risk.
Gamboa was a proven international right back.

12.) 22 Jan 2019 19:11:43
We all keep looking for celtic to compete in europe, but to do that we need to compete in the market with our european counterparts not scrimp around with loans and cheap players. I know the old routine about our league is not as good and money is not there but its not The rankers and aberdeen we should be aiming to beat its the likes of liepzig, anderlecht and spartak moskow type teams. Until we speculate on some better players we will do nothing in europe. Hail hail.

13.) 22 Jan 2019 20:42:05
singing the praises of young ralston is all well and good but remember he wasnt up against a quality team in fact they are two divisions below celtic so i would expect our player to be much better than theirs.

10 Jan 2019 23:32:15
Linked with Omar Elabdellaoui from Olympiakos. Exactly the type of player we should be after to replace Lustig.

1.) 11 Jan 2019 00:32:43
Seen that lm67 he looks of good pedigree this boy and more in our price range would be more than happy seen this go through.

2.) 11 Jan 2019 07:14:11
Heard we could actually be looking at 2 Norwegian Full backs. LB and RB.

3.) 11 Jan 2019 07:59:02
Would the LB be the boy meling from Rosenborg?

4.) 11 Jan 2019 08:35:18
Naw. Haitam Aleesami plays for Palermo.

5.) 11 Jan 2019 10:49:42
Wyllie the boy melling was a cracking player would be a great signing.

6.) 11 Jan 2019 11:10:27
He stood out a mile in that team.

7.) 11 Jan 2019 11:47:37
I have said everytime we have played RBK that we should go for him. Looks like he can play LB and LM. Looks a talent for sure.

8.) 11 Jan 2019 12:12:50
I was thinking the same about Meling, always thought he was a standout in their team. Well worth a shout.

9.) 11 Jan 2019 14:02:56
Lads at work here in Bergen reckon this guy would be a real coup.

10.) 11 Jan 2019 14:53:41
Can't see Melling coming in as back up, he's too good to warm the bench.

11.) 11 Jan 2019 15:54:46
We bid £4 million. Olympiakos want £8 million!

27 Dec 2018 22:29:15
Ed what's your thoughts on the Castagne and Janssen links? Are they players you’d like to see come in? Any truth in the links?

{Ed007's Note - I'd like to see both of them coming in but Castagne will need some persuasion to come to Scotland and I was told by someone down south there's nothing in the Janssen link and that he wasn't at Celtic Park last week or whenever it's meant to be.}

1.) 27 Dec 2018 22:44:56
That’s a shame Ed I think they’d both be good signings too. Hopefully these are the types of players we have been looking at and not the likes of McKenna and Shankland!

{Ed007's Note - I don't see Aberdeen letting McKenna leave in January unless it's a crazy money bid and Mr Lawwell doesn't like making crazy money bids, I have heard murmurs that Hendry will be offered in any deal for McKenna in the summer.
I really don't see why we would have any interest in Shankland and again Ayr don't want to sell in January.}

2.) 28 Dec 2018 12:59:20
I really hope we don't go after him he's not that great a defender. Largely at fault for Edouards goal.

3.) 28 Dec 2018 22:53:33
He's a cart horse. Ad rather keep and try develop hendry.

4.) 28 Dec 2018 23:39:24
Not going to lie braverart86 edouard is clumsy as **** and greedy at times. not the final article whatsoever but that was a magical finish. And credit where it’s due.

5.) 29 Dec 2018 01:38:37
Not a lot between Hendry and McKenna other than McKenna is more physical and Hendry is better on the ball. McKenna slightly ahead as he's had more game time of late in a less pressurised environment. Imagine if Edouards goal was other end and it was Hendry that failed to clear his lines against Aberdeen, he'd get crucified.

6.) 29 Dec 2018 01:52:12
I think he'd be worth a punt if on a free or a minimal fee but he's not worth any serious money.

30 Aug 2018 07:55:08
Moritz Bauer being linked. Actually thought of him earlier in the summer once Stoke were relegated but he signed a new 5 year deal. For that reason I doubt there’s any truth in it, but he’d be ideal for the problem right back slot.

1.) 30 Aug 2018 10:38:51
Celtic have come out and poured cold water over tht speculation really getting worried abt what’s happening at our club with transfers.

29 Aug 2018 21:25:38
Divock Origi? Potential Dembele replacement?

1.) 29 Aug 2018 21:36:27
Celtic said no to that offer.

2.) 29 Aug 2018 23:45:23
Liverpool wanted 27 million from Dortmund so I doubt he is a realistic target.

05 Jan 2019 20:09:51
Bayo now following the club on social media. Tends to be the modern way of hinting that a deal is close.

1.) 05 Jan 2019 20:38:17
How can it be close when according to people on here lawwels fecking it up? 🤔.

16 Dec 2018 08:36:15
Rodgers saying he wants 2 strikers in Jan. Anyone got any names? Think one will be permanent and one loan to cover Griffiths absence. Wouldn’t surprise me if Shane Long was targeted. Goal record is poor but I’m sure that would improve dramatically up here. His work rate and playing style would definitely suit our high pressing game.

26 Sep 2018 17:38:41
Could tierney play left wing with izzy left back? Obviously don't want to change his position long term as he’s an amazing left back but he is our main threat his season and could do so much damage if he received the ball 20 yards further up the pitch and only had a full back to beat rather than a winger as well.

1.) 26 Sep 2018 18:18:30
He could for me LH67 I believe he started out as a winger my fear is it takes our best defender out of our defence. Fair shout thought as we’re struggling to create up front more than we are defensively. For me KT is the best full back we’ve had since Danny McGrain and he’s as good defensively and better going forward than Danny was. 👍.

23 Sep 2018 14:32:46
This team, with Rodgers at the helm, is done.

1.) 23 Sep 2018 15:09:54
Agreed this team under Rodgers is done, all the talk about not replacing Armstrong and Roberts and dembele well they were no different they looked slow and boring last season too, they all do which is why we need to freshen up the tactics the formation and unfortunately I think that will only happen with Rodgers leaving brilliant manager but the time has come I think, he looks suicidal I think there is major issues in the dressing room for sure, I don't think we will win the title this season and if we do we will be challenged all the way and for us to win we have to sort this mess out now another month of this pathetic play and we could destroy any chance of winning the league I really don't think Brendan has the answers unfortunately.

2.) 23 Sep 2018 16:19:14
That was another woeful display. We need to get it right very soon.

03 Sep 2018 22:05:57
Ed any info on what happened with Boyata towards the end of the window? Did interest dry up, did he accept he was staying but will leave next summer or is there a chance he now wants to stay long term?

I think the past few weeks have shown how important the big man is. I have no doubt that if he’d played in the CL qualifiers we’d be in with the big boys again.

{Ed007's Note - I don't know the ins and outs of it but basically Brendan Rodgers told Boyata that he wouldn't be allowed to leave during this window. There was some rumours going about that Boyata was changing his agent which if true would make me wonder what part his agent played in the recent mess, especially after what Rodgers said about him just turning up at Lennoxtown.
I'd offer him a 5 year deal with a pay rise and a buy-out clause in the £10 - 15 million bracket - with the prices in England just going to continue rising and Kompany's international career coming to an end we'd easily get that if we were getting at least £9 million for him this summer.}

1.) 03 Sep 2018 22:42:55
Yeah I definitely think his agent had a lot to do with the mess. Determined for him to go for big money so he got a hefty fee in the process.

That’s a good idea. Are release clauses common for us? Anyone got one that you know of?

I just hope he stays. The games we played without him were a glimpse into our future if he leaves next summer and isn’t replaced with proven quality.

{Ed007's Note - I don't know of any players that have but clubs tend to keep them quiet unlike Spain where they need to register them.}

2.) 03 Sep 2018 22:43:23
I think some of it goes down to the apparent actions of the player claiming injury when there wasn’t and the gung ho actions of the agent. I think any interested clubs didn’t want that type of behaviour at their clubs and Dedryck s actions and his agent scared them off? Be interesting to see who our number one pairing will be. I so enjoyed Sunday’s game maybe only 1 goal but a pummelling all the same, clammed a few newbies up facebooks been a bit quieter today 🙂🍀⚽️.

3.) 03 Sep 2018 23:16:30
Looking forward to seeing Benkovic but hope it doesn’t hamper Ajer’s development. He plays very well beside Boyata.

4.) 04 Sep 2018 00:36:06
I think the Moussa situation will not bode well for the future. Not that I blame the club in any way. The way I look at it if you don’t want to be here, don’t let the door hit your arse on the way out. But know players will know if the stamp their feet loud enough they will get their way. There’s no doubt big Boyata was flawless yesterday but my personal opinion still remains he should never have been given the opportunity to pull on our shirt again and that won't change. After the Dembele situation I wonder if he regrets accepting BR’s decision that he want being sold in the window? We’ll never know.

{Ed007's Note - It really doesn't work like that, Real Madrid wanted to sign Hazard and his reps met them a few times because he fancied it so how did Thibaut Courtois force a move and Hazard didn't?
Doesn't getting 22 million Euros for an unhappy player in Dembble, players like Wanyama, Van Dijk, £7 million for Armstrong etc, back to back trebles, winning trophies, working under Brendan Rodgers, watching KT, Ajer, Edouard and Ntcham etc develop, players like Rogic and KT signing new deals, LG due to sign on too and yes even the money in the bank and balance sheet bode us better for the future rather than a player that acted like a petulant child's ripple effect through the Club?
And maybe what's happened also sends out a signal that you don't want to cross the manager and tell lies about him while trying to work your ticket - if Dembele hadn't admitted lying to Rodgers he would still be a Celtic player.
Rodgers has sent out a message to players with both the Boyata and Dembele situations, he decides when you leave Celtic and when you do it will be on the Club's terms.}

5.) 04 Sep 2018 06:40:36
Great post ed.

{Ed007's Note - Thanks mate, it's certainly not as much doom & gloom as some would like us to believe (not you, Ice Man) and there's still a lot to look forward too.}

No chance they letting him go. Not with the doubts over Abraham’s future. Plus we now have 4 strikers. No more coming in.

You think there’s any truth in it Ed? Given we’ve got Burke and are signing Weah too I can’t see this being true.

{Ed007's Note - Burke's only here for 6 months, or maybe we're cashing in on Forrest while his stock his high 😁

Need to factor in loss of CL cash too. Plus our wage budget is £50 odd mil. I think we’ll be sitting at £30-35m in the bank just now but that will fall as the months go on with less Europa cash and no new ST money. Still healthy but the loss of CL money is a big factor.

He’s came off the bench plenty of times and shown absolutely nothing. Arzani done more in the 15 minutes he played than Morgan has in all his appearances combined. If he was doing it in training he’d have earned himself a few starts given the form of the others but he clearly hasn’t been.

1. 2-0 home to St Johnstone, late 90s (not the league clincher)
2. 3-0 home game where Hooper scored twice
3. 4-3 v Juve - not a bad first european game!

I agree we need one but not sure we’ll bring one in. We currently have Boyata, Benkovic, Ajer, Jozo, Compper, Hendry and Bitton on the books. Can’t see us adding another without a few departures.
