Is it true that the deadline for us to complete the permanent signing of big Ed the 16th
Or was that just made up paper speculation?

Any news on the potential permanent signing?

Fingers crossed 🤞.

Talks with PSG were supposedly set to resume this week IC. I could be wrong, but I'd imagine the meaty bit was negotiated when we loaned him - so perhaps it's just things like the installments, clauses etc that we'll have to iron out?

2.) 12 Jun 2018 19:41:28
Fingers crossed Jim
Some player
After years worth of frustration post the Henrik, Sutton, Hartson era where we struggled for top class strikers, no disrespect to big Sammi or hooper, we land wee griff who came good the the moose and Now big Ed.
If only we pushed the boat out and signed el gruffalo fo £40 million.

3.) 14 Jun 2018 01:14:36
If they are together next year. Amigos mk2?

Tom Rogic,
Some player aye, injury prone aye, big game player aye.
New contract? For me I hope so.

1.) 14 Mar 2018 22:50:38
100% replacement would cost ££££ so keep him all day on and get him to the best medical folk on the planet.

2.) 15 Mar 2018 08:55:59
Not for me. Misses far to many games a season. How can you have a consistent team if one of your main playmakers spends more time in the stand than on the field?
Ye he scores the odd big goal but that's not enough IMO.

3.) 15 Mar 2018 10:17:58
Fit and on form he's unplayable. Providing he's not on / asking for massive wages I'd be really sad to see him go.

20 Feb 2018 20:13:02
Regardless if you want them as permanent signings or not does anyone reckon there would be the finances to sign Paddy and edouard at the end of the season?
Would this be dependant on the mousse leaving the hoose?
Would anyone be happy with this arrangement?

Island celt

1.) 20 Feb 2018 20:46:25
Love to get Paddy. Would like to think we'd get him for under 10 big one's. As for the big fella, widdnae bother.

2.) 20 Feb 2018 21:50:57
Id be over the moon if we could get 20 mil for dembele. But on current form we'd be lucky to get 10mil.
If we DO manage to get 20+mil for him I'd be delighted if we could sign Robert's and edouard for 15 of that and the board can keep the rest.

3.) 21 Feb 2018 00:13:46
If paddy kicks on for the last bit of the season we will be priced out. If the board/ BR can get 20m for the moose it will be at the cost of edouard not getting games. That 7.5m can't be justified. To keep our strikers happy and valuable going with 2 up top is the only option. Might give teams something to think about as well and give us the option of going direct in games where side or backwards passes are the only things happening.

4.) 21 Feb 2018 00:39:18
Not 100% but if youth is counted Paddy is considered a homegrown player. There are plenty of epl sides that would be glad to have him. It all comes down to where he wants to be, what he wants to earn and what mancity want cash wise. I just can't see it. Even if the moose goes for 20m do you think we will sign 2 players for 15m? Again I can't see it. There is a massive rebuild of our team on the horizon.

5.) 21 Feb 2018 09:52:25
I'm with Jennyfleck, didn't bother with Edouard. Certainly not at £7m Paddy? Mmm, not for me. Forrest come on a ton. Let's be wise here. Hotel in the pipeline etc. nah.

6.) 22 Feb 2018 09:02:30
Give me players before a hotel any day, from what ed has said in the past it won't be a choice anyway, the hotel budget and player funds are separate. Unless I've picked it up wrong.

31 Jan 2018 21:56:20
The board said we would spend £6-8 million if the right player came available.

Why oh why have we not went out and signed the bison?

I say we organise a protest march and boycott, imagine bringing in a lower quality singing like charly bhoy from Chelsea and retaining the services of the moose when we could have obtained the services of the SPLs most prolific haircut.

The season books won't be taken up I tell you.

1.) 31 Jan 2018 22:09:46
Or we could do nothing and sit back and watch our club die, apparently its the done thing lol.

2.) 31 Jan 2018 23:03:51
and there it is. Lawwell wins the day again with a loan signing.

A good signing but again at the cost of not improving in other areas.

Also see this "watch our club die" by spending cash. that's not how "they" died btw

they tax dodged, they didn't die by spending. They died by spending someone elses cash and getting caught.

HUGE difference. get it right next time.

3.) 31 Jan 2018 23:20:38
Tesla I think u missed my point, I was referring to the sevco fans.

4.) 01 Feb 2018 00:45:59
Maybe so, but I've seen so many people delighted at this transfer window. it's a disgrace tbh. So many people lowered their standards. We should be trying to improve.

Right now it's one step fwd and two steps back. Get inexperienced players, develop, sell.

repeat, repeat. No progression. No investment to move forward. Just happy stuck in one place, going nowhere.

Yet quite happy to put ticket prices up.

5.) 01 Feb 2018 07:43:51
Most important thing was retention this window mate. Last window we were close to seeing a few regulars leave, we have strengthened instead. Support and be happy man.

6.) 01 Feb 2018 07:43:44
I completely get where Tesla is coming from.
If I told you at the start of the window that we would have the injuries that we have now but don't worry we'll get Scott Bain on loan and a cb who'll soon be 23 but people still refer to as a "young prospect" who has only ever made 56 professional appearances, half of which are with Dundee. I am confident that all of you would've been dissapointed.
We have spent less than the new club who are apparently in financial trouble.
Yes we've spent roughly £8m this season, according to transfermrkt, which in the past would have been a large amount but in todays market that is peanuts.
We have the money from CL and transfer clauses of VVD etc.
I understand the club are trying to expand in other ways with the hotel etc but I think we should continue to improve what we have on the pitch at the same time.
Fair enough we have been playing very well but if we don't improve and somehow the new team manage to find investment from somewhere and continue to spend more than us every season then they will eventually catch up.
It will probably be after ten in a row, but it will happen.

I know I'll get a load of dislikes but I felt that something had to be said.

7.) 01 Feb 2018 08:36:01
Jeeze, AGAIN, for the umpteenth time, how much do you think it takes to run Celtic? Musonda? HUGE outlay on a guy we could never afford. Young Morgan, BACK UP keeper and a highly rated young player who, you have to admit, looks a player. Added to a squad who were unbeaten last year, with Rogic and Paddy back soon. Come on mate. Sevco SPENT more? I'll leave that there.

8.) 01 Feb 2018 09:56:23
How is he a "young player"?
The boy is nearly 23!

Yes Sevco have spent more this season,
If they continue to spend more then eventually they will catch up.
No one really knows where they are getting the cash from but if they continue to invest they will continue to improve.

Our keeper situation was already shaky with Gordon in the first team let's be honest.
He was being slated on here after every game.
He's injured and we're now left with DDV, who GORDON was keeping out of the first team.
Bain who I used to rate very highly but now cannot get a game for Dundee or Hibs.

I do know how much it takes to run Celtic.
Celtic's revenue grew 74.2% last year compared to the previous year while our expenses grew only 33.4%. We are still owed £5.7m from player sales. It was reported at the end of 2017 that we have a year-end net cash at bank of £17.9m, huge increase from the £3.6m we had at the end of 2016.
All figures from Celtic's end of year accounts.

We have the financial resources to go out and sign a quality first team player but we didn't.

9.) 01 Feb 2018 11:46:13
See, Jhedi sticks up for board, gets a few likes n that. Support really is split on it but god knows why.

Happy to simply retain players? is that how amateur we are now?

The only thing it seems will take for fans to realise will be when zombies catch us. Only then will they demand. Quite pathetic really that the only thing some care about is being better than them.

Our standard should be Europe and to at least be a solid Europa side. Not settle to win a broken and beaten SPFL.

10.) 01 Feb 2018 12:15:12
Tesla who says we aren't a solid Europa side? We'll find out in a couple of weeks if we're a decent Europa level or not. I don't buy into this OTT fear of Zenit. If Anderlecht had qualified instead of us, people would be saying it's a 50/ 50 tie but because it's us we're doomed.

11.) 01 Feb 2018 14:44:15
Tesla, or maybe just maybe BR won't shell out for players who won't improve our team, and u also forget there is a real possibility we could be spending 12-15m in the summer with Roberts and Eddy so mibi we keepin it for that.

12.) 01 Feb 2018 14:44:15
Tesla, or maybe just maybe BR won't shell out for players who won't improve our team, and u also forget there is a real possibility we could be spending 12-15m in the summer with Roberts and Eddy so mibi we keepin it for that.

13.) 01 Feb 2018 20:11:50
I was heartened by players stepping up against the east coast loyal, but the fact is the board did not spend to bring in defenders who aren't cup tied and will slot straight into the team, or bite the bullet and buy a good keeper.

Hendry may or may not be an answer, Morgan may of may not make a position his own next year. No RB means we either think we have cover in Hendry or that Ralston can cut it. Either way its unknown and that for the board to go wth hope rather than a belt and braces approach by signing a good one in the £4-5m bracket doesn't surprise me.

Im sorry but a young player from Dundee who may or may not be good enough, is just not good enough if we are genuinely serious about becoming a CL level team. It just isn't.

I was absolutely convinced we would bring in quality, but I meant more than one player.

14.) 01 Feb 2018 21:09:31
spot on a Magicpole.

15.) 02 Feb 2018 00:11:46
island celt, don't you know we're skint and the stadium is crumbling. We just can't throw money we don't have. When will this 2nd season meltdown end, i just can't take it anymore.

16.) 02 Feb 2018 00:14:45
I'd say we haven't done anything in Europe for about 5 seasons.

So we have basically just qualified at best. as for the rest see magicpoles post.

17.) 02 Feb 2018 02:46:22
The last time we built from strength was the seasons leading up to the sevile final. The team aged and dispersed. How much is 5 or 6m in todays money? We've had a few good teams since as well. When the window closes next summer we will know exactly where the club is going. I had a look at the celticfc official site and I scrolled down the squad and counted players that may leave, should and will. It's a big chunk. 2019/ 2020 will be Rodgers team. This is his summer. Should of been winter but we have too many 1st team players the aren't ours or are likely to leave.

18.) 02 Feb 2018 11:47:49
There is certainly something amiss in a person's when whether we have had a good transfer window is based on how much money we spend. This is total nonsense.
If P L and B R cared as little about the club as these nobodies do, then they could spend £12-15m on any run of the mill player and these fools would be satisfied.

19.) 02 Feb 2018 12:33:56
Old man Chris literally nobody is saying a good window = highest money spent.

if you get a Van Dijk at £2mil, Wanyama at 900k, Dembele 500k then superb!

but if you are struggling in a specific position and need real quality to take you to the next level then you MUST be willing to cast a bigger net out.

Instead our board bring in Hendry who no offence to the guy but probably isn't even better than Sviatchenko who we have let go on loan.

People are talking about a lack of progress in quality in the squad, not a lack of spending 500 mil.

20.) 02 Feb 2018 12:54:47
why do you keep harking tote totally false presumption that we would be happy if we spent £12m or big money. that's a total misrepresation of the position and clearly shows your total lack of understanding of the actual situation.

What we want is Toby a quality player who would slot intothe team and improve it. If we are lucky we may find a gem fora couple of million, like vvd. We have chosen to go for a player who plays with Dundee.

You yourself have said Brendan could improve him. Do you also think he could go inright now? If you don't do you refute the fact we actually need someone right now and thirdly do you think that recognised quality players come in a lucky bag?

Nobody wants us to spend money for these of it. what we want is to spend money that will ensure we can improve our chances of both beating Zenit and qualifying for the CL. we a ll know we have enough to win at home . The disconnect is between our stated aim of becoming a recognised CL taming the evidence of defensive frailities that led to us being totally hammered in too mny games.

If e don't address this it will continue. Is that what you want? To flatline? We need to up our defensive game . That requires additional personnel. if it is a quality player then of course he is going tocost more. What your attitude exemplifies is the fact if we don't bite the bullet then we stall. Your menaical support of the board and their strategy is risky.

None of this would be an issue if Peter and Rogers hadnt stated we have ambitions to be a CL level club whilst at the same time not investing in the type of player who doesn't need to be improved before he can step in. that means we go with what we have. That means that the immediate opportunity to make us harder to breach in the Zenit games could fall to the same players who couldn't cut it in the group stages.

How can that be a good thing?

Its not about spend spend spend. I ts about looking for a player who is better than what we have. It is recognising that this type doesn't come cheap, but in investing in quality it better ensures we qualify for the CL, have a better chance against Zenit and move us even further ahead at home.

We should have the money to do this with two lots of CL money, vvd money, 50K season books sold. We are nt talking about £20m we are talking about using the £7m from vvd add in another £3m from the CL revenue and buy two defenders in the £5m bracket.

That wouldn't break the bank. and it would improve us. Instead we have a young guy from Dundee who might be the answer, but might not be right now. well the world operates in the right now, later is dependent upon the right now. If we don't strengthen now will we risk missing out because the pattern of defending and lapses kills us. Then not fixing it with an outlay of £10m might cost us £40m.

Thats the risk. Remember Commpare can't ply against Zenit. Beating them will bring in other £5m in gates and Tv and progressing. That recoups the cost of one player right there. We lose because our defence is still weak and that's money down the drain.

You obviously think they can do no wrong. Blind faith was never my thing.

16 Jan 2018 13:17:57
Any murmurings on a new keeper, or do you reckon summer?
Gordon has done well with shots recently, but the distribution still gives me the fear.
At the moment there seems to be no credible push from any of his understudies to take the no. 1 spot.
Do you reckon we are developing a young keeper as the replacement?

How many 'good' keepers have we every produced? I couldn't think of any!

1.) 16 Jan 2018 13:26:13
Boruc? Marshall? Bonner?

2.) 16 Jan 2018 13:26:19
David Marshall has had a good career.

3.) 16 Jan 2018 13:40:55
We had shay given on our books and let him go, not sure if that's what you mean but just one that's not been mentioned.

4.) 16 Jan 2018 14:19:49
Boab was boruc not already an international by time he signed for us?

5.) 16 Jan 2018 14:40:54
I was meaning youth development into first team.
I’d forgot about david marshal - cracking game against Barcelona years ago.

6.) 16 Jan 2018 14:55:03
I liked Stuart Kerr but he had to leave to play more football, it's a shame he had to retire so early.

7.) 16 Jan 2018 15:55:27
We had brad friedel and shay given on the books at same time. Givens contract was up and Lou macari wouldn’t pay his digs on top of his wages then Blackburn cane in and offered double - just finished reading packies book on hols 😂.

8.) 16 Jan 2018 19:34:22
Any good welshy?

9.) 16 Jan 2018 19:37:10
Boruc was only a year into his international careee when he signed for us but I firmly believe he got better under Stevie woods.

As for developing young players, keeper is one that rarely sees someone from the academy make the grade and step up and we always have someone with more experience as number 1! To be fair in the last 10/ 20 years very few players have made the step up from the youths to first team. KT, Forrest McGeady and Maloney are the only ones I can think of.

Stuart Kerr was decent too. For me though keeper is one of always rather see a quality experienced player fill.

10.) 18 Jan 2018 22:07:39
Fraser Forster isn't a bad one either.

Great to see Ed signed
I'm maybe in a minority but I'm not fussed how much we've spent on him, cheaper the better- more money for more quality players
Hopefully defenders that match KT for passion and quality

Any word on Timalloy ed? Was he not having a procedure?

Get well Timalloy

{Ed007's Note - I e-mailed Tim but I haven't heard back from him yet.}

1.) 16 Jun 2018 12:57:26
Am same island. I don't care if a player is 10 million or £10 as long as he can do the job. The best players I have ever seen in a Celtic jersey cost very little.

2.) 16 Jun 2018 16:17:50
I think it’s more of a symbolic thing. I’m not overly fussed how much Édouard cost but breaking the record shows that the club are willing to push the boat out IF the right player is available. A lot of fans wouldn’t have believed that until yesterday.

3.) 16 Jun 2018 16:25:50
Sure it is damn all to do with us. The board sets the net spending targets and we don't have any influence . The Board wants the club to do well, just as us fans.

4.) 16 Jun 2018 19:23:22

11 Jun 2018 09:02:38
The Scottish media must be doing their nuts, no leaks of transfer rumours coming out of Parkhead, when they know we will have targets and probably for decent money (not borrowed or fleeced)
Although I love the rumours season I'm delighted that we go about our business in a professional manner.
All they have is to try and link us with the same targets as sevco. It's pretty desperate all round for the blue corner and their daily ranjur fanzine.

Island celt

1.) 11 Jun 2018 10:40:01
The thing i like about our business is the surprise factor. We barely know who we are signing until they are either stepping off the plane at Glasgow airport or in the medical room. We show class and dignity in how we go about signing our players, or have so recently. I’m excited to see who we bring in. I hope we get most of our business done sooner rather than later. We have some important games coming up, I’d imagine Rodgers and the rest of them are working on deals as we speak.

2.) 11 Jun 2018 11:29:31
It's best from a business perspective to keep things under the radar. However, I can't stand it! I want to know who we are signing and I want to know now!

3.) 11 Jun 2018 12:25:53
JimTim, what’s your own wants for the club in regards to transfers, within our limitations.

4.) 11 Jun 2018 13:47:51
A 'keeper (can't see it though) .
A RB (not sure that will happen either) . So, what I'd really like to happen at least, is Edouard signed, an attacking midfielder who can ideally play on the right, and a CB. That's before anybody leaves. Armstrong, I'd be happy replaced with McGinn. If Dembele leaves then I'd like it to be early because that could change the window completely in terms of what we could bring in. What about yourself Ken?

5.) 11 Jun 2018 14:01:45
I’m the same as you JimTim, My biggest hope is that we sign Dembele up for another couple years, mainly because that warrants a greater transfer fee in the time that he comes to leave the club. We can only hope.

6.) 11 Jun 2018 15:56:32
knowing lawwell it will be last minute bargain buys.

7.) 11 Jun 2018 15:44:44
I hope Armstrong stays as on his day he's a top player. I can't see McGinn scoring as many as Stu and I don't thinks he's half as good as Armstrong.

{Ed007's Note - Ignoring the fact that Armstrong wants to leave he scored 4 goals in 39 appearances during the season just past - the exact same as he did in 15/16 under Deila - and and has only managed 27 goals in his 142 appearances over the 3 and a half seasons he's been here. Apart from season 16/17 he's never been a prolific scorer and has only broke into double figures twice in his 8 season career.
McGinn scored 6 goals in 43 apps last season including 2 against us at Celtic Park and one at Ibrox in Hibs 2-1 win there.}

8.) 11 Jun 2018 16:39:58
Fingers crossed Dembele 8s here with Edouard next season Ken 🤞.

Whether it be Armstrong or McGinn here next term, Ntcham gets in ahead of either for me. His goal return wasn't too bad for his first season. And he's younger than both SA and JMc.

9.) 11 Jun 2018 16:58:11
Ntcham is a quality player and is progressing really well. He will be our next big sale after dembele. Not that I want either of them to leave.

10.) 11 Jun 2018 17:54:03
If Dembele goes I think he’ll be replaced with another Edouard type loan signing. If the media have got it right regarding Edouard’s price tag I think Moussa will be off to offset that outlay.

I’ve always thought Rodgers biggest strength was seeing what the fans see in terms of where we need to improve and what are weaknesses are, which gives me confidence that a right back will be signed. I also think the lack of attacking support on that side resulted in Forrest’s average end to the season as he was left to do it all himself on that side. Imagine having another Tierney on the right!? That’s the dream.

11.) 11 Jun 2018 20:16:33
I hope we bring in Mcginn, Edouard then a CB and RB. With Armstrong to leave and a few others who are down the pecking order. Dembele signed up for another couple of seasons to inflate his fee when he goes. I’d be very happy with this and maybe a marquee signing at the £5m mark like nitcham last year. I’m just a happy hoop 🤗.

12.) 11 Jun 2018 22:32:41
is there anything in that Caulker story, for the CB, or is that just media speculation?, I hope Armstrong stays and McGinn comes in, I know Ed has said that Cochrane at Hearts is a no, no because of all that nonsense, but he is the kind of player you could build a team round, well stranger things have happened, well are going to happen, if you look at Trump and Kim having a love in in Singapore.

13.) 11 Jun 2018 22:32:53
Knowing Lawwell, Jamesbhoy, Lawwell will do his level best to buy the players B R wants on the best possible terms . We are lucky we have had Lawwell doing a great job for us and I think he is even better when a manager like Brendan has the right structures around him, to pinpoint as far as possible the right targets.

14.) 13 Jun 2018 01:03:11
Dry your eyes Chris, lawwell has kept us back in europe for years, he's a penny pincher, rodgers is frustrated by lawwell's budget restraints, and i know that for a fact.

ED007 and Stevie bhoy is taking his new coaching duties ever so seriously, by PARTYING IN IBIZA.

{Ed007's Note - Who cares! It's the close season and the guy went to a concert, do you think you need to work 24/7 to do a course? You need to calm down with this creepy obsession of yours, Tim. Do you know where Brendan Rodgers is or what he's up to, or do you only care - and obsess over - TRIFC managers?
You talk about them more than you do Celtic.}

Hi Ed,

I heard King thought it was Ali G he was signing and that was the solution to Sevco's money problems :-D.

{Ed007's Note - But they wanted him to change his tracky to an orange one.}

OOFT ED007 this hot weather too much for you to handle.
I just enjoy having a laugh at "my creepy obsession" too much fun to be had laughing at them
Anyway, with your mood, you will be glad to know I am taking a break for 3 weeks or so, going into hospital for planned procedure tomorrow, then if fit enough going to family in England, other people driving me.
So as wee Pat would say "Away and bile ye're heid" lol maybe.

{Ed007's Note - Nearly every post you make is been about them, you speak more about them and are far more interested in them than you are about Celtic.
Good luck at hospital ya obsessed auld git, I'll drop you an e-mail and keep you in my prayers mate.}

Usain bolt has lost out on a medal due to a teammate testing positive for drugs.
He now wants to sign for the tic and reclaim a 'treble treble'.

Is that 3-4-1-2 with CM at no.10?

Island celt

{Ed007's Note - It's 3-1-4-2 with Brown sitting in front of the defence.}

I can’t see it, but I can’t see the funds being the blocker,
VVD money,
Potential money for Armstrong?
CL money.

Our net spend so far can’t be that much?

I have to say though, if Paddy comes back (permanently) I would be delighted.

Fair point, but I still maintain it’s overhyped and the games I watch (and to be fair I don’t watch many) never really amaze me.
I think the Scottish game is drastically under valued and poorly marketed and the EPL is overrated and brilliantly marketed.
Separate pony How far do you reckon England will go in the World Cup Kev?

My ideal scenario would be a team full of Scottish title winners.

Changed days indeed
I remember a great Martin O’Neil quote in reference to big bad john
Having just returned from an injury with a scoring performance the interviewer said to Martin that Hartson was looking good.
Martin nodded his head in agreement and said
‘He must have been laying off the crisps. ’

Brilliant.
