Every window we have the same discussions around transfer targets, budgets, feed etc. It highlights the difficulties in bringing in quality and when we do they are invariably sold on in a year or two.

For me the core strength of Celtic is the Scotsman in the team. KT, Calum Mac, broony, Forrest, Christie, griff etc.

With broony on a final two year deal I say build the team around calmac in broonys role. Make KT captain after brown and invest more and more in youth development

Look abroad if it suits us / business model etc. But the longevity comes more from the homegrown. There's obviously exceptions (larsson! ) but in today's market I say develop our own.

We have Dembele and Okoflex doing well and likely to make the breakthrough soon as well as Henderson. Hopefully Aitchison can kick on a bit now too.

2.) 04 Feb 2019 10:51:05
Kier mcinroy cdm isn't that far away either. dembele imo still needs more time aitcheson a bit ahead of okoflex and in a br team as attackers their height and build will go against them like to see aitcheson on loan to an all club to see if he can cut it at that level.

3.) 04 Feb 2019 13:08:33
It's becoming a strength of this team that its core is home grown. I definitely think that will be added to in the future too. It would be impossible to have 11 Scots starting but I'd say having at least half the squad come from the development team would be extremely successful.
There would surely be the finance then to spend more on the players we do buy.

4.) 04 Feb 2019 19:51:25
I seen a photo today of okoflex and dembele training next to ntcham, I don't remember ntcham being the biggest but he made those 2 look tiny. Both need to bulk up, having said that it's encouraging to see them around the squad.

5.) 04 Feb 2019 21:59:01
Seen that an hour after posting they was training with the squad. Got some exciting prospects in the making with Johnston looking like he'll progress in to a cracking player too.

6.) 04 Feb 2019 22:49:15
Celtic especially under Brendan Rodgers have already began building from their academy and youth . Many of our signing are teenagers or players just out of their teens.

Anybody heard anything regarding boyata leaving?
Has he rejected an offer from Celtic?
If so is he being sold?
If not what's everyone's thoughts on him staying for another contract?

Island celt

1.) 12 Jan 2019 08:37:11
Think it's time to move on. The debacle in the summer proves his heart isn't in it anymore. The improved performances were for his future career elsewhere. Off you pop big fella.

2.) 12 Jan 2019 09:01:57
His agent last week said they'll not even talk to Celtic because he's going it was all over the press.

3.) 12 Jan 2019 09:30:12
I think most of if not all Celtic fans are looking to get. CB in I would like to see experience in there but with VRs comments I can’t see that happening but fingers crossed am wrong. Someone mentioned big commanding CB to be announced this week coming I hope so.

4.) 12 Jan 2019 13:11:34
I respect any player that wants to move on, but the way he conducted himself was highly unprofessional. Would be surprised if we don't sign another CB this month and Boyata was away.

5.) 12 Jan 2019 14:53:57
Rodgers proved himself to be a weak manager in this situation.

Boyata should have never played again. He refused to pull on the jersey pretending to be injured.

We lost to AEK and lost 40 mil.

He's not even a good player.

The amount of our fans who sat and clapped a player who has no respect for our club was an absolute embarrassment.

6.) 12 Jan 2019 17:18:58
Agree Tesla! Boyata shouldn’t have been near a Celtic top ever again after his actions in the summer! Brendan let it go and then dembele through the toys out the pram! And like you said, he’s absolute Barry white! Frightening that he’s what Brendan classes as our best defender! I’d quite happily never see the clown play for us again! Him and his agent can take f**k tae there selfs!

7.) 13 Jan 2019 11:18:43
He definitely not signing new contract, that’s we he’s waited to be allowed to leave on a Bosman. As soon as he signs pre contract with new team the club should try and negotiate £1m fee to release him now, gets him off wage bill and out the club and the wages and £1m fee can go towards his replacement.

8.) 13 Jan 2019 13:11:50
We lost more. £40m just to qualify. £14m TV pot and circa £11m CL home ticket package. I hate transfer windows. This one will join the rest if we don’t get a couple of battle hardened defenders. Get Boyata tf as he doesn’t want to be here, Benkovic leaves in the summer too and the thought of CL qualification with what we have left is a real concern.

There are players out there, although selfish clubs wanting money for them is really annoying. A RB and at least one CB who can actually play are a must.

05 Nov 2018 20:56:04
My pal at work said he'd heard a rumour that Man Utd (his team) would be bidding for a Leicester defender and that would force Leicester to trigger the return of benkovic.
Anybody heard similar?

Be a shame, the lad looks top drawer.

Seen a report boyata is injured albeit on Faceb££k, true?

Island celt

1.) 05 Nov 2018 21:25:33
Going to have to bring in 2 quality defenders in Jan if this happens as I see us selling Boyata in Jan.

2.) 05 Nov 2018 22:10:01
They were trying to sign McGiure late in the transfer window but he’s on a long term deal there so their bid was rejected.

3.) 06 Nov 2018 10:45:22
I may be wrong Ice Man but I think Leicester actually signed him up to a bumper new deal AFTER the window closed. If so this would make it even more unlikely he would be sold in January.

4.) 06 Nov 2018 15:29:36
McGuire singed his 5yr deal in the summer of 2017. So will come down to if Leicester want to cash in. Would be good if he stayed.

Benkovic staying/ going Should not be a consideration in January window. We need 2 quality CH in this window. We need to be ready for European qualifiers. RB and another Striker in January would be a good window. A striker in the mould of Dembele would be nice.

5.) 06 Nov 2018 18:11:53
Not so Tompo88, a new and extended contract just means they'd get more for him if they did sell. HH.

6.) 06 Nov 2018 18:09:17
I agree with you Happy in what we need but sadly I can't see us getting any more than 1 new player 2 at the most.

7.) 06 Nov 2018 21:53:44
Yeah I get that BTC but was thinking it makes it less likely cause as you say it adds and extra 20 mill plus to the price. Still by no means rules it out. I'd be gutted if we lose Benkovic in January he really has steadied the ship.

8.) 07 Nov 2018 02:23:46
Going on 1st impressions, the bhoy benkovic is a cracking player. I would be astonished if we could come up with any kind of deal to extend his stay with us. However, we had our chance to go in a bit high before LCFC nipped in. Now we would more than likely have to offer them more than double of what our original bid was.

My point being, if we discover good players, we should stop messing about worrying about budgets.

I know it's just business from the board, but it affects us year on year during qualifiers.

You need to accumulate to speculate, not the other way round.

Although I'm absolutely delighted at how the team have performed over the last 4/ 5 weeks, a performance to be proud of in Europe seems to evade us.

The board can't sit on their a@$e this next window. We must recruit a player/ players of a higher standard.

It's the only way we can make inroads on Europe.

9.) 10 Nov 2018 07:58:18
How was Thursday's win in europe for u faddy? Were u proud? U should always be proud of the team.

10.) 10 Nov 2018 22:50:33
Celtic don’t budget to be in the CL every year, they budget to remain strong both on and off the field. We’ve already seen what reckless spending achieves across the other end of the city and I wouldn’t want us to go down that route.

12 Jun 2018 16:36:05
Is it true that the deadline for us to complete the permanent signing of big Ed the 16th
Or was that just made up paper speculation?

Any news on the potential permanent signing?

Fingers crossed 🤞.

1.) 12 Jun 2018 17:33:04
Talks with PSG were supposedly set to resume this week IC. I could be wrong, but I'd imagine the meaty bit was negotiated when we loaned him - so perhaps it's just things like the installments, clauses etc that we'll have to iron out?

2.) 12 Jun 2018 19:41:28
Fingers crossed Jim
Some player
After years worth of frustration post the Henrik, Sutton, Hartson era where we struggled for top class strikers, no disrespect to big Sammi or hooper, we land wee griff who came good the the moose and Now big Ed.
If only we pushed the boat out and signed el gruffalo fo £40 million.

3.) 14 Jun 2018 01:14:36
If they are together next year. Amigos mk2?

14 Mar 2018 11:57:46
Tom Rogic,
Some player aye, injury prone aye, big game player aye.
New contract? For me I hope so.

Island celt

1.) 14 Mar 2018 22:50:38
100% replacement would cost ££££ so keep him all day on and get him to the best medical folk on the planet.

2.) 15 Mar 2018 08:55:59
Not for me. Misses far to many games a season. How can you have a consistent team if one of your main playmakers spends more time in the stand than on the field?
Ye he scores the odd big goal but that's not enough IMO.

3.) 15 Mar 2018 10:17:58
Fit and on form he's unplayable. Providing he's not on / asking for massive wages I'd be really sad to see him go.

Regardless of NL being the man to 'take Celtic forward' but now that he's here
Is there any other manager who you would prefer to see win the 10IAR?
Imagine the fury if he manageability it.
Bring in Ronnie for the backroom team and we're there.

Island celt

1.) 15 Mar 2019 08:01:14
Imagine the disappointment tho if he blows it.

2.) 15 Mar 2019 12:28:59
Would the disappointment be any less if it wasn't lenny in charge?

3.) 15 Mar 2019 15:13:06
Would look at Lennon a little different if he blow it lol.

26 Feb 2019 19:28:38
This is not the way I wanted to say farewell to Brendan Rodgers. Even if it was the end of the season and he was up front with his reasons I could accept than, with a big fanfare to see him off.
This way reeks and I'm not talking any of that smelling yer maws mince drivel.

Thanks for the memories

Who are realistic candidates for next year?

Island celt

{Ed007's Note - Smelling yer maws mince? Wtf does that mean? 😂😂😂😂

1.) 26 Feb 2019 19:44:23
It was a quote from Rodgers in his Liverpool days when he was referring to the local passion and feel for LFC. He was talking about walking through your home town in the good old days where windows would be open and you could smell your mums cooking.

In hindsight he was maybe trying to suck up to the fans
Or maybe I’ve totally ballsed up my memory over the years.

Busy few days for you ed and it’s not even the transfer window.

{Ed007's Note - Right got you now lol Yeah it passes the time when the site's busy and isn't near as boring as the transfer window.}

2.) 26 Feb 2019 20:03:10
Cheers to you and the boys on the live chat with the streams - glad i persevered as it was BRs last match.

Who do you fancy for the job
And who (total speculation) would you see being realistic?

I know you’ve laid out the steve Clarke stats, but I reckon the board will go that way.

Michael o Neil?

3.) 26 Feb 2019 20:10:25
Smellin yer maws mince lol. I thought it was an insult. Gway and smell yer maws mince. I've been wrong before mind.

4.) 26 Feb 2019 22:02:29
A though it was a dig at yermawsbaws 😂😂 a was going to scroll back to see what drivel he'd posted. Not that he does, or she.

26 Feb 2019 09:02:00
BBC sport lead story saying permission for BR to talk to lecister has been agreed.

Looks like it's happening. Gutted

I'm a supporter of outlet board, but I will be gobsmacked if the board appoint someone of Brendan's calibre to replace him.

My next worry is who would Brendan take with him from the playing staff?

Island celt

1.) 26 Feb 2019 09:11:29
Can only imagine there is major friction between Rodgers and the board. Rodgers will have ruined his legacy in the eyes of many for leaving at such a crucial stage of the season, especially if the league title isn’t wrapped up.

2.) 26 Feb 2019 09:13:17
If he's taking any one he will be paying through that massive nose of his.

3.) 26 Feb 2019 09:46:18
Kev83 - oooh, now the personal stuff?
The Celtic sites I am on have BR going from Jesus to Judas in the space of a few hours.

4.) 26 Feb 2019 10:27:37
He might be just agreeing to sign in the summer, so that Leicester don't sign anyone meantime.

{Ed007's Note - If he's going to go then get him to f**k asap. If he wants to manage Leicester in the summer he can sit on gardening leave until then.}

5.) 26 Feb 2019 10:31:24
And deservedly so tiny tim.

11 Feb 2019 09:13:25
WIth mulumbo in the press today, saying Ryan Christie kept him out the side and steve Clarke saying you knew he was back when he tipped up late for training (and was lacklustre) - is the why he didn't get more game time? Ie poor attitude in training or was he simply a stop gap due to injury who doesn't have enough quality?

Good to see him saying he wants to come back and fight for his place though.

With ryan Christie applying himself non stop during his loan and since his return, it would be tough for anyone to push him out the side.

Island celt

1.) 11 Feb 2019 09:25:36
I honestly think it was more McGregor surprising everyone with how well he adapted to his new roll that kept mulumbu out.

2.) 12 Feb 2019 14:26:35
I read somewhere that S Clarke knew Mulumbo was back at Killie as he saw him arrive late for training. His tardiness wouldn't impress Brendan and certainly could well have played a major part of him not playing much .
Just imagine how angry Brendan would be if we paid £6-8m for a player always arriving at last minute and beyond it . Just another detail that has to be checked before buying . New player has to fit into squad seemlesssly.

3.) 12 Feb 2019 18:57:44
Good post OMC. Wish more people had an appreciation of how difficult it is to bring in players that will make a positive contribution.

08 Feb 2019 14:14:04
Hypothetical question:

I'm assuming they would cost similar amounts (15m?).

If (and it's a big if) our board sanctioned the funds (and both players wanted to come) who would you prefer to sign, Benko or Burke?

Tough call but for me benko.

Island celt

1.) 08 Feb 2019 14:32:10
No tough call for me . benkovic every time. thiugh a decent player I don't think burke is worth 15 mill especially as a striker and for that money we could get far better . but benkovic is as good and could possibly get better than vvd.

2.) 08 Feb 2019 15:12:53
Can we no buy wan get wan free?

3.) 08 Feb 2019 18:29:36
Benko definitely for me.

4.) 08 Feb 2019 19:02:15
Benko all day long.

5.) 08 Feb 2019 19:07:01
Think it would have to be Benko with the issues we have had with recruiting quality for the defence.

6.) 08 Feb 2019 20:00:00
Benko. Lol was more of an obvious question to be honoust think any1 Celtic supporter would have him over Burke. Not saying Burke isn’t valuable to us now at the minute and is obviously going to progress but we already have many good players up the top half of the field. It’s our defense at needs a make over. If we can get Tom as our rb and keep benko. At would get me damp lol and Bain looking good to so would be exciten to see what happens at the end of season.

7.) 08 Feb 2019 20:26:05
I’d take both and for that matter I’d also get Weah and Toljan signed up 😉.

8.) 08 Feb 2019 22:12:55
Benko is pure class.

9.) 08 Feb 2019 23:08:31
Benkovic for me, the need is greater in defence.

10.) 10 Feb 2019 15:31:46
Pretty unanimous then!

Would you try him against hearts at the weekend then?

What’s playing at Dundee in the cold got to do with it?

Maybe you sneak over at bedtime and tuck him in?

Give him a start at the worst team in the league - makes more sense to me, but I’ll bow down to your knowledge there. Aye.

He’s had plenty time on the bench of late and is just staring to spark again.
See what the young lad can do in the centre - pull the strings and give Rogic a rest for the weekend.

You’ve been vocal on both options Ed; Lennon and Clarke, but of that is our limit, who would You prefer?

Would there be any value in bringing in Ronnie as a coach?

Island celt

{Ed007's Note - It would have to be Lennon for me, in management he's the more experienced of the two, he's managed us in Europe and been there and done it with Celtic. Lennon knows exactly what the job requires and the impact it has on your lifeI don't think Clarke would appreciate the level of intrusion in his personal/family life - not to mention the rise in sectarianism that would be aimed at him and his family.}
