Use our rumours form to send us celtic transfer rumours.

To put the hat on backwards for a jiffy, why in the world don't City want to keep hold of Paddy Roberts?

If he was a Celtic player-a Celtic winger-and showed the kind of form he did last year, I'd imagine the so-called elite clubs would be all over him. I am besotted, like the rest of you, and wee Kieran. But what are we missing? Let's say he'd be, as some have said, the best Celtic signing in a decade or more: surely that level of player would be more than tempting for the lot we were unlucky to draw with twice in the last 6 months or so.

Ok here goes and I'm ready to be slaughtered , probably starting with the ed but you got to call it as you see it or what's the point. The elite club's would not be queuing up for Roberts because he was not even nearly the biggest influence in the team last year as a matter of fact for a large part of it he could not even get into the team past Forrest and when he did I can only remember a couple of games where he made the difference. Sinclair , rogic, and Armstrong were much more influential and made the difference in a lot more game than Roberts did, so the elite clubs as you call them would surely be much more interested in those three players. Yes he is young, yes he can be very exciting to watch, yes he has potential to be a great but I think the hype is disguising just how good he was last season , now I'm off to put on my tin helmet.

Agree6 Disagree1

15 Jul 2017 06:36:37
Forrest isn't as bad as people make out and paddy isn't as good as some people tout him . the difference is paddy is still young and can or should improve he certainly finished the season great but was patchy up until then . why don't city want him probably because they have the top epl club beating the joneses spending affliction . money to burn and no time / desire to develop.

Agree2 Disagree0

15 Jul 2017 06:39:39
Quite simply City are a better side. Roberts was great for us, but they can go out and buy the ready made article. It's a wonder why City even bother with all those resources though. Not just Roberts, but generally. They must have a huge global network, they've got a massive complex, the staff to go with it and even a stadium for their youth teams that would put a lot of Scotland's to shame. Yet they continue to go out and buy players rather than bring them through. Iheanacho looked to be the one to break that mould, but apparently they're even after selling him. For us, picking up these well scouted, well trained young players from City, Chelsea et. al is a great way to go about business imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2017 08:50:28
City and Chelsea are very similar with the stockpiling of players. Quite simply they can pick up a Oliver Ntcham for 1 million, send him on loan for a few seasons, pay at most a small proportion of his wage and then make a ยฃ3.5 million pound profit on him. De Bruyne, Lukaku, Ake, Atsu, Borini, Salah, Bamford, Unal, Mooy, Poso, Lopes, Rakik etc. all suffered this fate and made both clubs a healthy profit.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2017 08:55:41
City buy talent and paddy will never get near there team they don't have the ti. e to wait on him. But last season there were quite a few games the wee man turned on his own ifbu think about it. get him signed HH.

Agree1 Disagree1

17 Jul 2017 20:47:39
Paddy was developing with us, he has undoubted skill and is nowhere near the finished article. In my opinion his contribution to the team improved drastically towards the end of his time with is. Money in England makes paddy represent a 'marquee' signing for us, but hardly a massive investment for English clubs.
If we sign him (and I hope we do) I would expect him to kick on again, however we need a sustained period in Europe to improve our players. Experience at the top level, pressure and quality opposition is what is needed to progress.
For me paddy has shown he has more than enough about him to be a first pick for us right now (and I included European ties here) and the potential to take his game to another level. Then I think he would move on for the foreign riches at a club not fighting relegation down south.

Was not able to watch the game live but just saw the rerun on premier, I really just want to comment on some of the offield positive stuff that I saw tonight.
The 300 or so fans who turned up today really made me feel proud, They took their lives in their own hands to, for me go and represent our club and the Rest of us, their behavior was exemplairy.
I am Derry born and bred, been away 35 years now, but remember the days when lisburn distilery where the only semi nationalist team that could get in there and cliftonvile games were played with only Huns allowed, so it was a great moment for me to see Celtic fans in there for a competitive game.
The behavior of Brendan Rodgers was an example to all of us, I hope everybody saw him, full of smiles, shaking hands with everybody at the end, total professional, He Knows what a dump that Windsor is and what type of scum where shouting at him and what kind of thoughts they were having when he was smiling at them and shaking their hands, so the greatest respect to the man.
Leigh Griffiths is a Celt, he did what all of us would love to do, just put a marker, Celtic Where Here.
I hope that sixthy thousand Celts will drive us on to a big win against this rable next week.

Great post Malika and very well said mate. I have to say that your comments on BR are bang on. I was wanting him to come out all guns blazing but that's why I'm not Celtic manager. This man is an ambassador for all that is great about our club. Love him, love Celtic, hate sectarianism. HH.

Times have moved on in the last 25 years, some people live in the 17th century.
Rasism and sexism have been eliminated in sport to a great degree

Now we need to erradicate sectrianism
These people need to learn this is in the past and no longer accecptable.

We need to show that we are not like these neanderthals show respect and no stupid overreactions by exuberant fans
We are going through no need to give uefa any excuse to punish us or the neanderthals win.

Racist chanting, sectarian songs, coins tossed and bottles lobbed at our players. It was like a flashback to the seventies and all because authorities, media and government are too afraid or corrupt to stand up to biased, bullying bigots in the 21st century.

Not one of the stewards made any attempt to approach the missile throwers nevermind remove them. And where was the Police presence?
Surely Celtic have to lodge and official complaint and EUFA must take action? This could have had serious consequences if something had struck LG.

But remember, we've got to respect "the culture"!
Again, last couple of days show these Neanderthals for what they are. Irony, if that's the right ฤ‡hoice of word is that they think they command respect when in reality it's vile disgust any normal thinking human has for them.
Society problem is that govt downwards won't tackle this in the correct fashion.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - If Linfield aren't dragged over the coals after tonight Celtic should NEVER entertain another charge over banners or flares. Linfield should be thrown out of the tournament and banned from European competition just for selling tickets to Celtic fans never mind the rest of it.}

15 Jul 2017 08:00:58
I don't think anyone was surprised at what they seen from these troglodytes.

It would be a sweeping generalisation to tar every supporter in that ground with the same brush, but they had a large contingent hell bent on causing trouble. Like their brethren only days before, they love nothing better than to lord their perceived religious and racial superiority over anyone they feel doesn't fit the mould.

Institutionalised sectarianism is the norm for this part of the world. Unfortunately racism and homophobia are all too prevalent as well. We even had the dubious honour of Britan First in attendance. Some of the local Loyalist cheerleaders have even had the audacity to blame our players for 'inciting' trouble! Work that one out? Our players were getting showered with abuse and missiles and this is their response! it kind of sums it all up really.

Glad the game is over. We can put it to bed at home and move on, unlike some people.

{Ed007's Note - 20 July 2017 (24.00CET) for all matches in the third qualifying round; 7 August 2017 (24.00CET) for all matches in the play-offs. But a club may register one new player after those deadlines but must be completed by 24.00CET on the day before the relevant first-leg match.}

He looked iffy. Hayes has to start before forrest too.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 19:32:44
Totally agree about big Erik! What the hell has happened to him. when he first came in I thought we've got a cracking player here, but he's miles off it! The amount of needless free kicks he gave away were shockin! And Hayes done more in 5 min that Forrest managed in the whole game! Not once did I see him beat a man! Hayes must start in front of him!

Agree4 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I said the same about Erik on the live chat, he's a shadow of the player he was when he first arrived.}

14 Jul 2017 19:43:17
If that's better opposition we're punished he's not good enough another cb is a must hayes was excellent when he came on but thought wee james was ok. linfield fans a disgrace let's hope eufa advisor reports them absolute scum.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 19:47:07
It's actually unbelievable how much the big man has regressed ED, and u can't say that about many players since Brendan came in! He's all over the place! Foul after foul and so slow off the mark! Really disappointed to be honest because like a said I thought we'd found a good one when he first came! Still think a quality centre back is a must.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - He was disappointed that the move to Leicester never came off in January but if he is still looking for a move his performances since then won't be helping his case with any potential suitors. I still think he could move on before this window closes but Boyata's injury will probably have put a spanner in Rodgers' plans for the defence.}

14 Jul 2017 20:03:56
Hayes done more than Forrest?
Sure Forrest set up the first goal.

Agree1 Disagree2

14 Jul 2017 20:10:00
Said enough about Erik recently and expected as much, unless we sign someone next week get Ajer in.

Thought Boyata was a big miss especially at set piece defending/ attacking.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 20:18:55
Kev Hayes was far more direct than Forrest! The first thing on his mind was to take on and beat a man and he done that 2 or 3 times in the last 15 min! Lost count how many times Forrest had the ball and shat out of tryin to take i his man! Ball played sideways or backwards as usual!

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 20:21:20
Disappointed he didn't get a move to Leicester! He'll be lucky to get a league 1 club down there the way he's goin! A decent centre half to play next of jozo is a must! Hoping Brendan has got something up his sleeve!

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 20:54:51
We could really do with a centre half before the next round, And where does everyone think Ntcham will fit in? I don't know much about him. Is he a box to box guy or a holding midfielder?

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 22:47:27
Lh86 he never created anything.
Mis hit a corner and smashed one over the bar. Forrest set up the goal so was more effective.

Agree0 Disagree1

15 Jul 2017 00:28:50
The viking ain't what he used to be. I only saw the first half before I started my shift but he had his hands on their players on two occasions, they went down and he gave away needless fouls. I agree with the posts above. Who is going to take him?

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2017 10:32:41
He made too many stupid fouls or was caught out too often. Lost count how many times he tried buying a foul because his positioning was terrible. Hopefully we can get a CB in before Dundalk/ Rosenborg.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Jul 2017 12:13:30
I think his biggest problem is he has no pace, and has been caught out since he arrived.

Fantastic draw! Great that our Irish fans will have a short trip after missing out on tonights game if they beat Rosenborg!

Agree4 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - This was the best draw we could have hoped for imo. Rosenborg are very poor compared to the teams they's had over the years and I expect neither them or Dundalk will give is any problems. Going with the match reports, Dundalk are very unlucky not to be taking a lead over to Norway for the 2nd leg.
I'm sure NorwegianRed and VikingTim will know more about them.}

14 Jul 2017 11:46:05
How are Rosenberg these days?

Agree2 Disagree1

14 Jul 2017 12:15:29
They have Niklas Bendtner in their ranks and a few other decent players. Mitsjo being their main prospect.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Jul 2017 12:17:59
ED007 and guys, I am the supsrtitious type, let's not count our chickens, first we have to beat Linfield. Yes, we SHOULD qualify, but these early qualifiers always throw up some problems, let us be professional.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - We're playing a team of part-timers from Northern Ireland - we WILL qualify.}

14 Jul 2017 12:28:04
I watched the game on wed night, Dundalk were good, really gave Rosenberg a hard time. Mc Millรกn and McEleney are stand out players, this game is not over, Dundalk have a great chance. Bendtner by the way was pure rubbish, they had a Slavic right winger who was MoM for me, but all in all they were pretty poor.

Agree2 Disagree1

14 Jul 2017 12:35:48
I stopped putting Rosenborg on my betting slip because they kept letting me down i have no doubts we will swat aside Linfield, Dundalk/ Rosenborg with ease home and away.

Agree2 Disagree1

14 Jul 2017 13:19:06
I'd agree with everyone else. Rosenborg are a shadow of the side they used to be. I think Dundalk will beat them in Norway and we can have a cracking tie to look forward to.

BR states SA wants to stay and that his agent should speak to the Club. Time SA got a new agent! How someone as intelligent as him even needs an agent is beyond me. Leeches the lot of them.

Believable11 Unbelievable3

14 Jul 2017 09:45:47
I'm getting sick of hearing about this to be honest! Sign the deal or move him on, it's as simple as that! This has been dragging on for months and still getting nowhere! Brendan says he's wanting to stay. well prove it and sign the new deal! If not then get as much as we can for him as we can and bring someone in who's fully committed to our club! Far bigger and better than Armstrong have left us and we've managed! No player is bigger than the club, sign up or jog on!

Agree9 Disagree3

14 Jul 2017 10:20:47
He should be told sign by Monday or we accept offers. We simply can't allow players to sign pre contracts in January if we can get cash for them now.

Agree6 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - I'm pretty sure SA's agent is his dad btw and the rumour I heard is the sticking point is over the length of the new deal.}

14 Jul 2017 10:50:34
So bring in some football mercenary on probably more money than being offered to Armstrong, the guy has every right to get the best deal for himself.

Agree0 Disagree2

14 Jul 2017 10:48:27
In what way Ed is SA wanting to sign a contract shorter than Celtic are offering. Id be happy if he signed a 2 year extension on his existing deal atleast it prevents the possibility of him walking away end of the season although i think we will accept bids if its not signed in the next 7-10 days. Just want this sorted out one way or the other if he signs great if not time to sell and wish him well.

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - I was told earlier today in no uncertain terms by someone, when I said it was probably over money, that Celtic want SA to sign a 3 year extension but the player only wants to sign for an extra 2 years.}

14 Jul 2017 10:56:17
BR won't be signing any Mercenary.

Agree5 Disagree1

14 Jul 2017 11:08:27
He should get rid of his Dad then.

I did a quick internet search and found out that only 13 generations ago his Father's ancestors fought against King James in County Meath. 4 generations back his Great, Great Grandfather shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand with a spud gun and started the First World War. That family definitely have an agenda

Is he looking a shorter deal or longer deal Ed?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Shorter.}

14 Jul 2017 11:14:57
Cheers Ed. I'd be happy with 2 year extension at the moment. 3 years is a long time anything can happen.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - (yes)

14 Jul 2017 11:47:33
Punt him if that is the case clearly thinking already of his next move if that short of contract!

This is a guy we were thinking of for a next captain, at that length SB will still be here

8-10 mill from EPL? Take that all day long and let BR spend it (y)

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Perhaps not, Jamie. Just a thought but maybe SA and his camp think if he signs for an extra 2 years then in two years time he's down to his last year again and back at the negotiation table for a new improved deal to take him into the top earning bracket - perhaps he's thinking/saying give me another 2 years and I'll show you how valuable I really am to the team?}

14 Jul 2017 12:06:17
Fair enough Ed, But need a compromise 2 + option of another 1

Guy @ 25 should be tied up for 3 years IMO @ 27/ 28 you at your best mate. I will grant you it's an unusual one because he is brighter than your usual player and doesn't appear greedy mate but the flip side to that is one that is methodical in plotting exactly what they want

Should not be at this anyway, when him and GMS signed GMS got the longer deal that should have been reversed IMO (Y)

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Jul 2017 12:23:35
So its 2 years on top of this year ed.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Yes.}

Thanx ed hand on heart do u think he'll sign on again.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - I honestly don't know how it's going to end mate. I thought resigning Armstrong would have been a formality but as it dragged on I started to worry and now I think there's more chance of him leaving than staying as both sides look like digging their heels in - I hope I'm wrong though.}

14 Jul 2017 16:31:55
Cheers bud the way brendan was talking he was saying he thinks he wants to stay but your right ed the longer it drags on it'll look unlikely.

{Ed007's Note - If he's not signed a new deal by the end of the month the Club will need to seriously start looking at offers imo.}
