Humble pie time for me! I have questioned Kouassi and to a lessor extent Edouard. I take it all back! Last night taught me a lesson and I am delighted to have egg on my coupon the day in work. They and a good few others were fantastic last night. HH.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2018 23:47:19
Both were immense last night. I thought for a 19 year old that Eduard was immense. Cold night, thuggish oppenets and all the ingredients for a player like him to hide. Not a bit of it. Stood up to the physical side and I thought his hold up play was outstanding against a good (but dirty) defender in Berra. I think we have a player on our hands.

I think we really wanted to prove a point last night, and everyone did. can see us kicking on from here.

I'm hoping that "Scott Bain" is PL &BR's secret code name for the holy goalie! Would've loved him back even for a short spell to noise up the gullables!

Great window as far as i'm concerned they can stop the clock now. We were already a fantastic team just in need of a rest, we have kept players and made signings. An abundance of star players about to come back from injury. On last nights performance the future is bright, but it certainly ain't orange. This window was never about Zenit, let them come have a go we will be ready. HH.

Have we signed anybody else today?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 19:19:41
Some fans are never happy. General consensus before the window opened was that we needed:

1. A creative midfielder
2. An experienced centre half
3. Keep hold of Moussa

All 3 have been achieved plus weā€™ve signed 2 young Scottish talents and acted quickly to get a goalkeeper so not to leave ourselves short.

Probably the most signings weā€™ve ever made in January which is a notoriously tough window.

Not to mention we have a trophy in the bag, 14 points clear, still in the Scottish cup and European football after xmas!

Believable5 Unbelievable3

31 Jan 2018 19:27:32
Just like some are happy with not progressing

If we all shared the same opinions the world would be a boring place

All I want is to win and win in style with a Lubo or 2 in the squad.

Agree2 Disagree1

31 Jan 2018 19:53:12
Well you should be happy for the remainder of the season with these Bhoys in attack.

Roberts, Rogic, Sinclair, Forrest, Musonda, Griffiths, Dembele, Edouard and Ntcham.

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 20:15:40
we Have came out the window stronger than we went in, plenty of competition in the squad. No bad for a January window. Expected a few more to leave. Nothing to complain about!

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 21:07:14
I still think we shoukd have bought a class right back. A keeper is a must too for me, as I'm not convinced by Dorus or Gordon and these positions are vital for Europe.

Last night saw Kouassi, Ajer, Eduoard, step forward as the real deal. That's like three signings for me.

Musonda is just a brilliant addition and he can help us step up. We have wee Paddy and Rogic coming back and they both have to respond to the challenge to get back into the team. Armstrong too will be another class player when needed.

Moussa will return to devastating form and Sincybwill also up his game.

All is great mid to front, only the keeper and the RB concern me as necessary to really move forward.

Right now if we push on from last night the way I believe we can, I believe we have a chance of doing in the Russians.

Two weeks ago I never thought we had a chance. Now I think we can do them.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 18:43:25
How did Musonda look last night? I know nothing about the boy. Is he a starter in a European game? Where does he play?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2018 19:01:19
He played mostly on the right wing as an inside forward.

He was quick, good dribbler, good passer but needs a bit of work on his shooting and decision making.

A few of his moves stand out. Was one were he drew two Hearts defenders to him at the corner of the box and then played a lovely back heel to the player bombing past him on the outside.

Another one, he had the ball and the Hearts players came towards him and he lifted the ball over the top of the onrushing players to one of his team mates running in behind.

He then created space inside the box for himself and it looked like he was about to shoot but squared it to his team mate just coming into the box but he fluffed the shot.

Would rate him about 6.5/ 7 out of 10 but I reckon there is a lot more to come.

i know we have enough in the tank to win the domestic treble but im uderwhelmed at the signings, a back up keeper and a back up centre half, where is this quality rodgers promised us for europe? i know we signed musonda but i can't see him starting away in europe.

Magicpole no chance of anyone more apart from back up centre half.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 18:40:23
It was very unlikely we would get that kind of quality in a January window when our priority seemed to be holding onto our best players; however, I do agree that we will need to act pretty sharply in the summer (probably when we have more cash) to improve our CL squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 21:04:11
Why would we have more cash in the summer? Maybe better players were not available but not a bad window with 2 decent players to add to the squad.

Oh dear screech Jackson has gone on the attack of our club after his paper's "Chinese whispers"
Apparently, Celtic "were snubbed" by the goalkeeper that went to Aberdeen, yes this goalie is so well known I do not even know his name.
But his latest is the best yet,
"Rangers may hijack Celtic's long term transfer target" Dundee player Jack Hendry, but break the story down and jackson writes "Hendry's name was MENTIONED in the Ibrox boardroom"
Two utterly purile (or unrinal) stories these scribes have no morals.

Bit off topic, seen a program this afternoon in Bannatynes, while my wee girl was in the pool, called footballs greatest, was about Roberto Baggio, I'm 40, I remember watching Italian football on Chanel 4 on Sunday afternoons back in the late 80s early 90s, they had so many great players over there, it made football seem quite glamorous at the time, and the standard of players was top class, Baggio, Maldini, Donadoni, Van Basten, Baresi, Battistuta, Voller, Gullit, Nesta, Albertini, Rjkaard, Signori. if you could take one or a different one from that time, in there prime for Celtic just now, who would it be?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2018 16:47:17
Wee Signori would have been a hero here. Scored goals for fun for lazio and had a magical left foot. Never made the most of his talent though.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 16:51:57
If we are talking about players to go in the current team, then I would be torn between Barsei and Maldini. However, if it was based on who I would loved to have seen in the hoops the most, I would probably go for Maradona, as he was one of my favourite players of all time (can't believe you forgot him) .

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 16:52:02
Van Basten for me Cjb77 absolutely loved the guy as a kid and was in tears when he had to retire Never missed gazzetta on a Saturday morning or an Ac Milan game if they were shown on the Sunday.

Your right, Maradona was amazing player, canā€™t believe I left him off first list, along with Mattheus, another top player, James Richardson always seemed to be sitting outside fancy cafes in the sun, while we watched on tv and it was grey outside! Back to today, I hope we get the young lad Hendry and keeper that our manager wantsšŸ‘.

31 Jan 2018 18:43:25
My memory of Italian football on channel 4 was loads of big names, lots of 0-0 draws or very low scoring games.

As a kid I hated watching it, in hindsight it was the world's best players all cancelling each other out.

31 Jan 2018 18:48:53
Has to be Gullit for me, he had everything that you would want in a player.

Maldini though for our current side.

Noticed that no one has touched upon Craig Thomson's performance last night.

I was disgusted but not surprised at how he was letting the Hearts players try and boot us up and down the park without intervening. However, when we put in strong challenges he was blowing his whistle.

I am really surprised none of our players got injured as a result of their antics.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

31 Jan 2018 16:54:52
It was the amount of times they tried to come through the back of our players mate! To be fair a couldnā€™t see how far away brown was from catching there player when he was booked but he was flying in. He looked as if he was having fun noising Lafferty and the young boy that played upfront for them up.

Agree0 Disagree1

31 Jan 2018 17:51:11
To be fair, Broonie got seriously stuck in, and Kouasie and Ajer were not far behind. We out toughed them all over the place.

I have been posting for a while about the establishment turning a blind eye to seriously dangerous tackles - especially aimed at KT.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 15:02:03
Last night's performance a big boost for us all.
Average age must be coming down also.
To me it looks like our transfer policy is moving up a level with higher risk outlays for the next generation of potential mega-millions players

You can see why Edouard needs game time for BR to make a Ā£7 million decision at the summer.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2018 15:42:34
With Edouard featuring so prominently, sometimes to the neglect of more obvious starters, I wonder if there isn't something more to the initial agreement than we're heard about--a stipulation about playing time, or a lower end-of-season transfer fee.

Saying that, he does look like a more substantial prospect after last night's run out.

Agree0 Disagree1

31 Jan 2018 15:59:38
Cavalcanti thatā€™s the problem with half the guys on here, one game he looks like a 7m prospect the next heā€™s not worth it at all. Fickle game by game opinions rather than evaluating an opinion based on a period of time and itā€™s ridiculous to suggest that PSG would give us a lower fee for playing Edouard more!? What benefit would the gain from such a clause?

Agree1 Disagree1

31 Jan 2018 16:25:39
The price will be the price. If he continues in the same vein as last night, he will be well worth that kind of money when you consider how much players with less potential are going for down south.

It's up to the boy to show that kind of performance regularly and if he does then he will be well worth that fee.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 16:31:36
I think Rodgers has played Edouard for a few reasons. First, both Griffiths and Dembele have been injured this season and have been back on the treatment table not long after returning. So Rodgers probably giving him game time to try and manage the other striker's injuries. Secondly, Dembele has been well below par most games this season, so Rodgers probably giving Edouard a run out to see if he could do better. Thirdly, he may just be doing better in training than the other two.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 12:42:20
Urgency thatā€™s what last night was all about the urgency to move the ball forward urgency to retain the ball thatā€™s whatā€™s been missing. Also believe thatā€™s the formation Brendanā€™s wanted to play but until Kouassi was ready (and how good was he) couldnā€™t implement it. Ed got it bang on with Edouard never a lone striker but his eagerness and intelligence in the hole at such a young age was great to see. Ntcham well he just makes it looks so easy he doesnā€™t tackle he just takes the ball from people. Those 2 in midfield let Broony do what heā€™s good at. And kt what more can you say about this Bhoy he doesnā€™t need anyone in front or behind him that left side is all his. I said to a mate at half time that Musonda would be lucky to get into that team if it keeps playing like that.
Tim 2nd half easing was understandable few not up to match fitness yet but that will come. Also the changes Sinclair and Mcgregor for me slow things down to much but like said before thatā€™s not always a bad thing when your a couple up prefer them to come on than start.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

31 Jan 2018 13:00:54
It was a joy to watch.
As koussai said he is a lion. He was fantastic.
The issue with that formation is sinky and musonda don't fit in. But it does allow us to play 2 up front and ever better when griff is back.

It is a good headache to have and allows us to play differnet formations. Once paddy and rogic are back i would not like to be in brendans boots trying to pick a team.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - We didn't play 2 up front though, we played one up front with Edouard and Ntcham playing off Dembele. People seen Edouard and Dembele's name and assumed we were playing with two up front. Look at the official sites team announcement HERE where the team's listed as playing 3-4-2-1.}

31 Jan 2018 13:42:26
During the game it looked like edourd had a licence to roam around to find wee spaces he could cause danger.

Agree2 Disagree2

31 Jan 2018 13:43:44
It's great reading Edouard get praise. I said last week that i actually think in the long term Ā£7m may turn out to be a bargain. Yes plenty to work on and a bit raw but you can see improvement all the time. You get people who would rather slate him for 2 misses in a game rather than praise what he does throughout the 90. His movement and work rate off the ball is something i've been keeping an eye on and he does it very well he creates space for others. Edouard is going to a gem in the pack, just like Ntcham, Kouassi and Ajer.

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 13:49:33
Spot on ed he was even back challenging in the fullback positions.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 14:12:43
Ed, is Ā£7m the definate figure to buy.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm sure it is mate but I noticed on some French websites they say it's 7 million Euros.}

31 Jan 2018 14:42:51
Cheers Ed, Ā£6.1m. I feel when we get a price for players we want to buy we tend to compare it on our previous transfers going as far back as 2002, Times have changed and the transfer market has certainly changed. Based on transfers elsewhere for me Edouard is worth a punt. You get the impression guys like him would gladly stick around for 3 or 4 years minumum.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's really difficult to judge transfer fees these days but if an EPL team had bought Edouard last summer for Ā£10 or 12 million nobody would have batted an eyelid and their media would be raving about him. Like I said the other day about Carson and Gordon moving to Chelsea, the price of a player can depend on the buyer quite a bit, there's no way PSG would ask for 7 million Euros or Ā£s from an EPL or Spanish team for Edouard.}

31 Jan 2018 15:37:59
Young Eddy is rough but for me he's definitely a diamond. He will def be a Ā£7m player if he continues on from last night. And if he does we will easily double that money spent on him. The effort he put in last night was brilliant and his goal was top drawer.

Great result and first half performance last night, but why oh why did we ease up second half. Some of our movement first half was a joy to behold and I expected 6 or 7 goals to send the Edinburgh sevco home reeling.
But like other fans, I think the Musonda signing has galvanised the whole club, players and fans and now looking forward to seeing "Brendan's Babes" win another treble hail hail.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

31 Jan 2018 12:10:07
Stroke of genius at the right time as we all know how much we needed a wee boost to energize the squad and appease the support.
With moves to gain a centre half and goalkeeper before the deadline and maybe even offloading player (s) , not in the managers plans, we should come out of this 'window' healthier and settled.
From what I picked up from last night:- Eboue, Ntcham, Ajer and Edouarde were stand-outs, with Moussa getting closer to his best and the quick distribution of Dorus making a big difference.
It was also good to see BR alter the shape and tactics, which seemed to blow Hertz apart from the start and dominate the way we should and rest players like McGregor and Sinclair for most of the game as they have both struggled recently.

Agree3 Disagree1

31 Jan 2018 13:19:36
agree, the test for me is in Europe, we should blow the spl teams away, we need to invest in quality keeper(s) and 1 x defender, hopefully we will invest again in the summer, or players coming through development. Musonda got the skill/ speed, but needs to be aware how physical Scottish football will and can be, hopefully Broony will enlighten him. lol hail hail. its all good enjoy the journey.

How hard would it be to offer Allan as well part of the Hendry / Bain deal or even Ciftci as a part of the Carson deal both are already there?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Oh aye, I'm sitting here like Big Bird from Sesame Street! It would be simple enough if everyone was willing for the deals to happen but it might be tricky at this late stage of the window.}

31 Jan 2018 11:57:35
I am an old cynical Tim, but I think this is when we see how few clubs are willing to 'play ball' with Celtic in transfer deals.
We are currently negotiating with two clubs - only too happy to accept our players on loan to improve their teams and bolster their chances of any success and financial reward that implies, but when it comes to selling to us, it's a totally different matter.
I know people will say they are only holding out for the best possible deal - as we would in that situation. However, we all know that prices are inflated and negotiations become complicated and drawn-out a lot more than when certain other clubs are involved.

Thoughts from last night. I was really impressed by Edouard. I think he gets a bit of grief on here, but for me his hold up play is very good. He maybe could have done better with a couple of his chances, but I would be more worried if he couldn't get into the space to get the chances. I think he is better playing off the striker than as an out and out striker.
Not worth Ā£7m imho, but I reckon a deal for Ā£3m-Ā£4m would be a good bit of business.

The one that impressed me the most last night was Kouassi.

Agree1 Disagree2

31 Jan 2018 10:56:48
Agree with Kouassi Kev, he looked very composed on the ball. Originally I would have liked him to go on loan in the SPL for some game time, but I like the option of him and Broony in centre mid with Ntcham attacking central mid. Gives us a good bit of strength in the middle of the park for when we play hatchet mobs like Motherwell.

Agree2 Disagree0

He has had a bit of grief Kev. But so did Ntcham, so did Dembele, and so on. Sometimes people are far too quick to get on the back of a young lad moving home, culture, language. And that's even before the footballing elements come into it. IF he continues to play the way he is, puts in a good performance against Zenit, then I think he'd be worth the 7m. Especially looking at what some clubs are paying for certain players. Sometimes you have to keep up with the Joneses a little bit. We're alright demanding 20-30m for Dembele, in that sense, from what I've seen so far, Edouard would be worth the 7m. The end of the season would give us all a clearer picture though.

I agree stuff sending him out. Play him every week. Him and Brown would stroll through every midfield battle in Scotland.

Ajar impressed me. Dembele was better too.

Hey everyone new to this site and was just thinking about the goalkeeper situation and I was a big fan of Danny Ward when he was at Aberdeen. What you think ed? Not getting a chance at Liverpool.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Welcome aboard, Darren. Ward wants to leave Liverpool but it probably won't be until the summer and I'd be happy enough with signing him then.}

31 Jan 2018 08:27:34
Its that time again so where's that marquee. or is a gazebo? ed its been all to sensible on here, your quality control has filtered out skinnybhoy and his alternate personalities. Time for it to get plain daft.

{Ed007's Note - There hasn't been any silly posts from Skinnybhoy or Hoops88, remember the burger bar guy as well?}

Surely Scott Allen could be used as part exchange and money for Hendry of Dundee see Allen scores for them last nightšŸ€.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2018 09:56:42
Morning Ed. If we did as DB67 suggested, could we then loan Hendry back to them for the rest of the season?

See Stokes has been released by Hibs I would have him back thoughts?

davie he wasn't let go for nothing. Decent finisher but a bag of trouble off the pitch. HH.

31 Jan 2018 09:40:22
The annoying thing about stokes is that heā€™s got bags of talent when heā€™s on his game, but heā€™s a half wit off the pitch! Just canā€™t seem to keep himself out of trouble and heā€™s exactly the kind of player Brendan doesnā€™t want!

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 09:45:35
Games like last night is how we should be playing every week, Stokes would not be able to keep up. More often than not he takes a touch or 2 and steps inside slowing every move down. Decent enough player and i like him but he's just simply not good enough for Celtic now. Wish him well though.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 09:45:56
Why would we have him back? He doesn't suit how we play now.

Where would we play him?

Why would we want him after he's been bombed out of hibs for discipline problems?

31 Jan 2018 09:57:35
Not even remotely good enough for us.

If Hendry comes in today does that mean someone out?
Or a loan back to Dundee for rest of season?

it won't be a loan back as they all ready have scott allen on loan from us.

Looking like it might be a goer as Hibs now looking to sign Allan.

Seems its going to be a 3way thing. Allan going to hibs
Bane going to us
And Dundee want a player fae hibs.

Which frees up a loan space at Dundee so Hendry could go back.

well that was very pleasing and much more like us. Moussa looks only inches from being full on, Edouard looks like a young Moussa and i think we saw why BR rates Kouassi so highly. Young Ajer, who seems to improve every game now, could be a rock, and i mean a BIG rock, for us.

Last night was the first time since Aberdeen away where we looked in complete control for 90 minutes. I thought we were quick, clever and sharp n our passing and on it from the start.

A quick word on DDV, what a difference with really accurate kicking. With Moussa and Edouard as targets we really moved on them to beat the pressure on our own 18 yard line.

But the real highlight? The age of this team.

Was great to see a smile on Dembele again. I enjoyed seeing the players celebrating last night. Musonda looked like he was having a great time at the end and it was nice to see everyone make him feel part of the group already. This lad is going to fall in love with Celtic. Funny reading that he has already left the chelsea social media pages, unfriended chelsea players and now up to date with everything Celtic haha.

He passed it when a pass was on and went long went it wasnā€™t! Something Gordon hasnā€™t quite grasped yet! Heā€™s brutal for trying to pass it in his own 6 yard box! Iā€™m all for passing it out from the back but there a time and a place!

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 10:34:14
Thought it was a Brendan thing, passing out from the back, and that's what he was trying to convert Gordon into doing, even though it was madness when the opposition were pressing high up the field, so was thinking maybe Brendan had relaxed his view and had told the goalie just kick it up the field seeing that there was Dembelle and Ɖdouard to aim for.

Hopefully Ajer silenced a few critics last night. This lad is going to be very special. How often do you see a CB so tall look so composed on the ball and not afraid to run with it from the back. Strong in the challenge and hooks like he is adding a few lbs by the week. I really don't care about age or lack of experience for me he is now our best CB and we should build the team around him. Not going to judge him on 2 or 3 mistakes when others do it on a regular basis. This is a young lad who wants to learn and clearly loves being at CP. I don't know how long he has left on his contract but i hope it is extended as a matter of urgency because it won't be long before the top clubs around Europe come calling. We have some outstanding young players at the moment get them all tied up on long term deals and let this team grow together. Time to look at the bigger picture, where this team is going rather than what happened against teams that were assembled with Arab cash.

Agree Stan! The big guy has definitely got something about him! Thought the first half in particular he strolled it! Lost count how many times he burst forward. thought second half he was coming in to the centre half position a Wee bit but and there was a lot of space down that side! But for a lad that age heā€™s doing great and with Brendans help will only get better! The stadium was buzzing last nite especially the first half! On to Saturday now, more of the same will do me!

I noticed that too although probably just force of habit, id like to see him have more confidence in using both feet as he does tent to reposition to his favoured foot quite a bit but he is progressing well, so much so that its now a case of who plays beside him for me. Interesting formation too last night id like to see BR do this more often he changed it quite a bit last season and i think that definitely helped keep a bit of fresheness about the team. Buzzing about Kouassi too.

Noticed a few weeks back that he's packing on the muscle stan, was listening to the match last night and one of the commentators compared him to jaap stam (height, presence), hope we sign him up as i think he will be an absolute star in a few years.

I know that we still have today in the window and the names that are the strongest links are Bain and Hendry. If we sign these two, how do people feel. I appreciate we signed Compper and the loan fee for charly, but we also got the added bonus of vvd money. I would have thought we could have possibly pushed the boat out a little more and got more European competition standard players.

If we are interested in Trevor Carson and we offered 250k bearing in mind they sold their best player to PNE for 450k. We offered over the odds in my opinion and they set the bar with their previous transfer dealings. Maybe they would have preferred Sevco coming in with a 275k offer with payment delayed interest free until 2020?
