Seen a report that we are interested in Southamptons wesley hoedt. Left sided centre back, been out on loan the past 18 months and available for 5m.

He's been linked with us a few times so most likely nothing concrete to it, if there's any truth to it though I'd be happy with him next to Duffy but.

24 Aug 2020 01:16:22
Apparently close to completing a 3m deal for David Turnbull. Providing he stays fit and is over the injury, would be a very good signing for us and most likely a replacement for rogic. We can't afford to miss out on him the same way we did with John mcginn.

Possibly going to be browns last season playing the majority of games so this looks like a long term replacement.

1.) 24 Aug 2020 08:39:02
Good young prospect. Take it that's Soro Celtic career finished another 2 million wasted. Wonder who his agent is 🤔🤔🤔🤔.

2.) 24 Aug 2020 09:25:56
Soro hasn't even been given a start in a competitive match - after such a long settling-in period and may be another Eboue, Benyu, Bayo, Hendry, and Daft Boli etc who never quite 'fitted-in to the plans'?

3.) 24 Aug 2020 10:03:46
Soro to be fair is a different type of player than turnbull. soro plays in the brown roll, and is fighting with McGregor and ntcham also. turnbull I would imagine will fight it out with christie for a place, and will be a direct replacement for tam rogic.

4.) 24 Aug 2020 10:09:58
Turnbull and Soro play different positions.

5.) 24 Aug 2020 10:23:32
Correct sos.

6.) 24 Aug 2020 13:41:07
According to Turnbull family its speculation.

7.) 24 Aug 2020 21:35:45
Soro looks a competent and capable midfielder, why hasn't he been given more game time?, Ntcham should be starting every game, why doesn't he?, If we sign Turnbull, how many games will he start?, or will he just interchange with Christie?, there is one answer to all these questions.

20 Aug 2020 12:10:44
Newest rumour today is that rogic could be used as part of a deal to sign duffy, would be a brilliant piece of business if true but can't see Brighton taking the chance with his fitness and injury the record the past 2 seasons.

1.) 20 Aug 2020 12:15:38
Sky reporting he's close to quatar move 3.5 mill.

2.) 20 Aug 2020 12:36:04
Think they are saying we'll be using the money from Rogic sale to get Duffy rather than part exchange.

3.) 20 Aug 2020 12:55:11
Think that's it exactly Tompo.

4.) 20 Aug 2020 13:34:00
Read that aswell tompo, one report is saying brighton maintain an interest in rogic though and celtic could include him but I would be taking these reports with a pinch of salt.

Best case scenario is for us to sell rogic for 4m and use it to get Duffy and Turnbull in.

5.) 20 Aug 2020 17:18:14
I think Rogic is happy to go to Quatar as the cash will I presume be decent plus it’s a lot closer to home in Australia? Win win for the big man.

6.) 20 Aug 2020 20:45:45
The league standard is ABYSMAL . if he goes it is about money and close to home. not the standard of league or becoming a better player

Did he not play footy on sand is his early days?

14 Aug 2020 10:15:28
Shane Duffy and Barry Douglas the two latest names to be linked.
Would take Duffy in a heartbeat, not so sure about Douglas though.

Would be decent cover and a good option to push taylor but he's been blighted with injury the past few seasons.

1.) 14 Aug 2020 12:40:04
I'd take Duffy in a heartbeat, Douglas though is a big rangers fan. More likey he goes to them if barasic goes.

We already needed an LB upgrade, now We definitely need an upgrade at LB.

2.) 14 Aug 2020 13:00:43
Why worry about who he supports? Kenny Dalglish was a rangers fan! Broony too. I care only if he's good enough.

{Ed007's Note - Greg Taylor, Callum McGregor and James Forrest were all Rangers fans when they were younger. McGregor's family are still TRIFC supporters and are at Ibrox every week.}

3.) 14 Aug 2020 13:05:01
If we got Duffy in the door and played 3-5-2 and managed to keep edouard i reckon we could be a force to be reckoned with.
Frimpong at right wing back would give Forrest the kick up the backside he needs to battle for his position, a decent left back in to push taylor and this would be a cracking window for us.

4.) 14 Aug 2020 13:23:47
Never knew that at all about Cal-Mac and JF; Well there ye go.
Maybe that's why James has been quiet against them lately ha ha.
Get yerself onto Mastermind, with The Bhoys as your specialist subject. You're a mine of unlimited Celtic Trivia lol.

{Ed007's Note - Hasn't that been done already? I do love quizzes though.}

5.) 14 Aug 2020 14:18:18
I'm very surprised to hear that about Forrest tbh. No idea why, he's just been part of the furniture so long I just assumed he was a Tim.

6.) 14 Aug 2020 14:49:02
Jock Stein and Danny Mcgrain were as well.

7.) 14 Aug 2020 15:05:05
Forrest is definitely a tim.

8.) 14 Aug 2020 17:45:29
I think it’s fair to say he’s a Tim now and so is his brother but he wasn’t brought up the that way (bad parenting) but fair play to his da after he was left waiting about in a corridor at rangers for hours twiddling thumbs his da said to him mon son let's go and see what Celtic have to offer. And as soon as they walked through the door Tommy Burns gave them the tour and the rest is history.

9.) 14 Aug 2020 20:40:47
I always thoughT Forrest had a Celtic daft grandad. Never knew that about him and Callum. Both model professionals, both here for the 10 Need more like them.

10.) 15 Aug 2020 00:52:24
There's probably countless players down the years who support one or the other but played for the opposite, as long as they're professional and give there all it shouldn't be an issue, scott brown was definetely a rangers fan when he was younger.

11.) 15 Aug 2020 01:02:42
Forrest, if he stays at Celtic till he retires, will probably have a record number of League winners medals (13 or 14) , like Giggs at Man Utd.

12 Aug 2020 08:01:28
Hearing that ajeti will complete a permanent 5m move within the next week, not sure how much truth there is to it.
Would Ideally prefer we spent the money on defence if I'm honest where we are actually needing extra quality brought in.

1.) 12 Aug 2020 08:26:13
It would be an awful lot of money for someone who's virtually unknown and has not played regularly for so long. I would be amazed if we parted with that amount on one player, but a gamble like this?

2.) 12 Aug 2020 10:05:59
This boy is not virtually unknown, Yes he had 1 bad season with West Ham but he didn't really get a chance to play.
The boy was very good at Basel where he played along side Mio where he had a very good scoring and assist record, he is also a full Swiss international.

3.) 12 Aug 2020 10:30:13
I agree with you mark to an extent, we are crying out for at least one defender, but we also need another forward .
That game at the weekend highlighted it, if eddy is being marked closely we have no one else that can help him out. Griff as we all know, prob can’t be trusted . After last season going missing for half of it, to not training properly during lockdown. He will now be pushed further down the squad .

4.) 12 Aug 2020 11:11:48
It's a lot of money but a few of the bhoys on here saying he was excellent before West ham who let's be honest have a habit of wasting talent. the window is open till 5th Oct so we have plenty time to get a cb in. big Duffy would be my choice but can't see it.

5.) 12 Aug 2020 12:16:32
Totally agree with all the points made guys, ajeti however isn't a relatively unknown player the way you could say klimala was, he played in the UCL with basel and actually had a decent record in Switzerland with elyounoussi before going to west ham. Also need to remember west ham usually play with one up top and sit deep and they signed that guy for 45m last summer who was ahead of him aswell.

Agree with you Quinn, we definetely need another striker in the building who we can rely on, klimala is a work in progress and Griffiths can't be trusted every time even though he's probably the best finisher we have.
I do think the kilmarnock game was a stumble and ajer/ jullien will improve but we undoubtedly need to spend money on another decent centre back and another left back to battle taylor.
If we do sign him for 5m then that's the best part of 9m for him and barkas which is a serious outlay without a defender yet brought in.

6.) 12 Aug 2020 12:28:37
Agreed Mark,
Yes according to the Daily Ranger Ajeti will arrive today to complete a medical and a permanent £5m transfer.
Defence is always our Achilles heel. Big Jullien is a decent player but he does seem to go to pieces when a burly forward puts it on him. That doesn't go unnoticed by other teams.
We need a bit of steel at the back, someone who'll go through an opponent. Someone like Simunovic without the injuries would be ideal. HH.

7.) 12 Aug 2020 12:48:53
Not a follower of Swiss football at all so that's probably why I said he was unkown; however I also thought big Oddsoaks was unknown as well when we signed him, so hopefully Ajeti will surprise me.

8.) 12 Aug 2020 12:54:27
A bit of steel needed at the back not glass like Simunovic was made of.

9.) 12 Aug 2020 13:30:09
If he does indeed sign then hopefully this points to us switching to the 3-5-2 as I can't see us spending 5m for him to sit on the bench and play back up, just hope this isn't a plan or backup incase edouard is sold!

Big jullien and ajer aren't the worse defenders but they're heavily prone to a lack in concentration when the pressure is on and that's a hole that needs plugged. Some might disagree about this but I honestly don't think ajer is suited at centre back, he'll bring the ball out all day long but when it comes to positioning/ timing/ marking he's lost and teams punish us for it.

A left sided no nonsense centre half who provides balance and just clears there lines would be an ideal addition to the team.

10.) 12 Aug 2020 18:20:33
Best person to ask is Dannyh14, he knows swiss football well.

11.) 12 Aug 2020 18:33:42
Not McKenna biggest fan bit think his meat head style but compliment the 2 Chris's in a 3 5 2 or even allow ajer to step into midfield. i've always thought he could be a natural successor to brown.

12.) 12 Aug 2020 18:51:52
Definetely agree with that point above and would think ajer would be more suited to playing defensive midfield instead of centre back.
I think his physical presence is something we've missed the past few years and as much as I love broony for the job he's done I don't he should be starting every single game this season unless it's against rangers or in Europe where we need him most.
He's starting to lose that yard of pace and as a result he's playing it sideways and backwards which is slowing us down and losing efficiency going forward, ajer and mcgregor in there would compliment each other really well and I think brining another centre back in to partner jullien with the option of ajer playing midfield and able to fill in at the back would be a seriously wise move.
I'm not staying I would drop brown completely, a just think it's maybe time to experiment a bit and play him in certain games.

13.) 12 Aug 2020 19:50:58
Aye and if ye want tae know anything about actual football the last person u should ask is phil! ! Clueless is being kind tae him 😆🤣 let me ask Phil, will u support our new diddy league striker who only managed goals in the Swiss league?

14.) 12 Aug 2020 20:40:52
is our league stronger than the swiss league?

15.) 12 Aug 2020 21:01:09
Our league isn't stronger than the conference. If you take away the old firm we are on a par with the Welsh and Irish leagues. Would you fancy Motherwell up against Basle who were third in switzerland last season?

16.) 12 Aug 2020 21:17:50
In reality what's £5million getting you these days. Ok there's the odd bargain but there's a lot of rubbish at that price as well. If we have done our homework and the lads attitude matches the ability hopefully it'll work out.

17.) 12 Aug 2020 21:28:20
exactly. that's what i was getting at fifer. the boy abet looks right decent imo. his movement is really good. good with both feet by the looks of it and looks very strong for not being the tallest.

18.) 12 Aug 2020 21:39:50
Now now fifer ye cannot be dealing in facts mate, Philtim doesn’t like that! According tae him the Swiss league was a pub league! But like u said, basle finished 3rd over there any they were in the Europa league quarter finals! Pub league but 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤣🤣🤣.

19.) 13 Aug 2020 06:31:56
Ajeti passed his medical celtic finalising a deal for a perm contract just trying to structure a deal.

Celtics potential champions league opponents in the 3rd and qualifying rounds should we make it past the first 2. One game at a time and without getting ahead of ourselves, incase anyone is interested.

Providing the favourites from each game played make it through this is the strongest opposition we could currently face.

3rd qualifying round, (Young boys, Red star belgrade, Qarabag, Legia warsaw, maccabi tel aviv, molde)

Play off round, (Dinamo zagreb, astana, slavia prague, ludogorets razgrad)

1.) 18 Aug 2020 14:33:46
Some tricky away ties mark in the 3rd qualifying round especially as I think they are just over 1 match 😓 fingers crossed for a home tie 👍.

2.) 18 Aug 2020 15:00:38
This time last year I didn’t think Celtic were ready to play Slavia Prague in the Playoffs. That proved to be correct because we couldn’t get passed Cluj.
But this time last season 3 out of our back 4 were new signings.
Now I feel we have a more settled team and if we get to play in the latter qualifying rounds Celtic will be ready because we will have a few more games under our belts.
A few of the other leagues have not started up yet and are still at their pre-season stage and that could also go in our favour.

3.) 18 Aug 2020 16:40:05
I can't see us getting past most of them going on our record in Europe. In all honesty I'm not that fussed. Also bored having the same teams in the qualifiers every season. Europe just doesn't do it for me anymore.

4.) 18 Aug 2020 16:43:29
Our players have not had a chance to get any momentum going yet, but tonight gives us a chance to get back to winning ways and hopefully play like they did in the last home game (especially second half) .
I'm sure they are raring to go after Boli-Bawz and JF usually stands out in the early qualifiers; so I hope he scores tonight?

13 Aug 2020 18:50:27
Few post have been made about this but I'm hearing a season loan for Shane Duffy is on the cards and he's been in contact with Lennon.

Supposedly on 35k a week at Brighton which if true I'm surprised at as it's within our range, he could be the last piece of the jigsaw we desperately need at the back.

1.) 13 Aug 2020 19:59:23
We need a left back as well .

10 Aug 2020 09:14:08
Apart from shane duffys name being mentioned on a previous post, has anyone heard of any other interest in centre halfs?
Jullien and ajer are just far too unreliable and jullien has got no excuses for being bullied again by a striker, he should have learned his lesson from last season.
I'm dreading this season if they two are going to be first picks again.

1.) 10 Aug 2020 10:23:38
His positioning was ridiculous at the goal. if he steps onto the bye line the big rumble has to barge through him realky poor defending but say i g that I do like him and he did take a few games last year to get going.

08 Aug 2020 00:12:21
Simon deli, left footed centre half from club brugge is apparently available as they're struggling financially.
He's been linked to us once before when he was at slavia prague and he's also been mentioned with sevco recently, looks like a unit at 6ft 4 and a full international, we need another centre half in there to push ajer and Jullien on, would be a cracking signing if we went for it.

1.) 08 Aug 2020 09:20:21
Thought ac Milan were offering us two cbs and money for ajer.

07 Aug 2020 13:33:17
Bayo reportedly off to toulouse, not sure if it's a season loan or permanently.
If we manage to get ajeti in on loan and keep a hold of edouard I'd be happy with this window.
I know some folk don't like loan players in but I think it's a good way of trying before you buy incase you end up spending a decent amount upfront and they turn out to be a flop.

1.) 07 Aug 2020 14:05:59
Think our defence could be strengthened.

2.) 07 Aug 2020 15:16:56
Another CB to make it 4 that can play there regularly and another couple like Welsh and bitton that can step in when needed.

If we are making loans they have to have options to buy for me, unless they are proper massive players.

Be better just to put an end to this debate as don't think I'm getting my point across.

Yes I did say that Forrest has done it in big games over the years, but I also said stats alone shouldn't be the only factor used.

Example: celtic 1 bayern 2, forrest didn't score that game, I think he did assist mcgregors goal though, but take that assist away he was phenomenal the full game, was always beating his man and being an out ball.

There's been plenty of big games he's played well even though he hasn't scored, assisted or created a chance, plenty of times he's beat his man and made good crosses, it's honestly ridiculous if a footballer is always to be judged on stats alone.

My point isn't being understood though so I'll call a day on this post and move on 👍🏻.

{Ed007's Note - It's probably for the best because you're not making any sense.}

Ed, at what point did I say that statistics don't matter? If course they matter, all I said was that stats alone shouldn't be used to determine a players credibility and importance.

Like I said I'm not a know at all and haven't claimed either to know about scouting or coaching, far from it, I just think a players performance shouldn't be judged by stats alone regardless of what position they play.

{Ed007's Note - If they've put in a good performance the stats for the game will back that up. If Forrest isn't scoring or assisting in the bigger games what's he doing that makes a good performance when a winger's job is to create chances and score the odd goal?
And remember it's you that said "he's done it in big games over the years" even though I've shown he clearly hasn't.}

Total bollocks if stats are going to be used to determine how good a player really is, performances should just be taken right out of the equation then.

Roberts and Forrest were compared, not only by myself, but the point i made was that roberts performances weren't consistent enough for him to be named as good as Forrest was.

If I need to back up my point of mentioning Lennon and brown as examples instead of it being named as " m and s total bollocks" then fair enough. The point I made is regardless of what position a player is, is that stats alone shouldn't be the only factor to determine how good a player is, I'm pretty sure there's plenty of wingers/ attacking midfielders who have been great players but don't have the greatest of stats, I'm not a know it all but the comments on here seems to be there is some who think they are.

To go back to the original debate of roberts v Forrest, it's down to preference and opinions, but stats and performances don't lie and there's only one winner and that's Forrest.

{Ed007's Note - You've completely lost me now but you obviously know nothing about scouting and coaching if you think the statistics don't matter. You don't need to be a know it all to know that btw, just follow football and pay a bit of attention.}

Need to correct you there, doing it in big games doesn't necessarily mean goals and assists, it's his overall performance that should be looked at.

How many big games has brown been amazing in? Doubt there were many goals and assists in there but his performance during those games were brilliant, same could be said for the likes of Lennon in his day.

It annoys me when players constantly get judged on stats instead of taking performances into account, to say he's been hiding in big games just because he didn't score or assist is just bull, if that was the case then even the best of footballers haven't turned up in big games either, stats are important to compare, but performance is what counts.
