Read comments about Scott McKenna which are very harsh.
Personally, I don’t think we could afford him but he ticks a lot of boxes.
He’s an experienced Internationalist who is still young and is physically strong and good in the air. Let’s be honest, Starfelt is neither.
He’s Scottish, so no issues with UEFA quotas. He’s left footed which we’ve lacked at CH. When Forrest were promoted, McKenna was their POTY and they’ve managed to stay in the EPL. His game, experience and professionalism will have rocketed. Finally, it’s not a requirement but he’s a Celtic fan, so knows the expectations. He won’t need time to settle.
On the downside, he’s had some injuries recently. Would he be available? Could we afford an EPL signing? Is he a ball playing CH? Not sure, but I reckon he’d be a good fit. We can’t keep signing prospects and projects.

Agreed injury and wages are my only concerns.

But your spot on the one thing I keep saying we don’t have is a dominant centre half who can put his head on the ball at either end of the park. Going by his statistics that’s not Rocky either which was apparent at weekend he’s a football player.

2.) 07 Aug 2023 17:48:30
I think mckenna would do well he's hard as nails and has a decent left foot. and he's a fan from childhood which helps.

3.) 07 Aug 2023 18:55:02
There would be no money to make in him, so what's the point. What we would pay for him, there would be no profit further down the line. He might be soild but he is slow and always has been. Not for me but t up to the manager who he wants and what he sees in them.

4.) 07 Aug 2023 19:12:08
Starfelt was dominant in the air if you look at his stats. He was just much maligned because he did not always look comfortable with the ball at his feet and could be left exposed due to the system we played.

Ange said it himself, playing centre back in his system was a very hard task.

5.) 08 Aug 2023 19:56:29
WeeJoe, that’s a valid point about APs acknowledgement that playing CH in his team is hard. However I have to disagree with you on the (stats) suggestion that Starfelt was a dominant winner of headers. I can recall him being out jumped by Souttar for a Hearts winning goal at Tynecastle. Out jumped by Helander for a winning goal at Ibrox. Out jumped by Hanlon for Hibs a goal in the League Cup Final. There were other occasions, when under the ball, he wasn’t strong. He didn’t provide much threat in the oppositions box either. I don’t think the Stats tell the whole story.

We get it! The GB were annoyed when our manager left. They need to get over it.

Despite predicting what would happen if the board didn’t back Rodgers, the GB couldn’t control themselves when he left.
To harbour and repeat the grudge years later, when he’s come back is ridiculous. They need to grow up and stop the attention seeking.

PSav

1.) 20 Jun 2023 20:31:51
Surely they have earned the right to voice their opinion?

Not saying you need to agree with it.

2.) 20 Jun 2023 20:51:07
I have previously always backed the Green Brigade but I agree they need to get over it.
I’m actually surprised because I thought they would’ve welcomed Brendan back because he was clearly the best candidate for the job.
I will be upset if any criticism affects our club/ team.

3.) 20 Jun 2023 22:54:04
When the green-brigade release a statement / post such as the repeat “fraud” from the past my question and it is only a question nothing else is, is that the thoughts of them as a collective or is it just a minority who perhaps control there social media account?
Again this is purely a question to help me understand the situation as I have lived out in Australia for well over a decade now and my info is now mostly made up from places such as this and the bias p*sh from online red top rags.

4.) 21 Jun 2023 00:20:07
When they un-furled their banner when Rodgers left, they never expected him to be back, now they are in the situation that they can't be seen to be backing down, this would be a sign of weakness in their eyes so they've got to keep up the original belief to prevent them looking stupid. Instead of enjoying the 7 out of 7 trophies Rodgers delivered they chose to unfurl a banner and focus on the negative stuff . Rodgers wasn't the first manager to leave a team mid season and won't be the last. This nonsense that he is due Celtic fans an apology is embarrassing.

5.) 21 Jun 2023 01:01:00
Why are fans concerned about what GB think?

6.) 21 Jun 2023 07:05:15
But, but, but. He IS a Fraud@.

7.) 21 Jun 2023 10:01:21
I have total mixed feelings about this, Rodgers is a great manager really and were lucky he is a celtic man, but the way he walked away has left a sour taste, i get the upset ill back him because he is our manager but if he starts all the love for celtic and beating the chest and everything that goes with it then I'll just take it with a pinch of salt between him and ange i think they duped us both i thought would of been here a long time, i wish a manager would come in say he's got a job to do, he understands the club ethos and he will do everything to live up to it, that's it don't tell us youve always been a supporter and love the club and we'd be surprised how long you'll be here, just come in do a job and not play up to the crowd for self gratification, fans will always be here everything else is replaceable.

8.) 21 Jun 2023 19:26:02
Supporters have a right to express their opinion and protest, but how can they be supporters, if their action makes it more difficult for Celtic to win.

Good luck Juso. Very decent player.
It's a shame, it looks like he was prepared to go anywhere, which is disappointing.
Union Berlin are a relatively small club. Their ground holds 20,000 and they've only ever had 3 seasons in the top league.
Don't expect everyone to have the Tommy Burns mentality but equally, it was getting tiring listening to the incessant links away (which started shortly after he arrived) .
Prior to Celtic, his record was mediocre and he wasn't a Croatia regular.
Obscurity awaits I suspect. We move on.

Union are 3rd in Budesliga, so they may be a small club but they are a decent team.

I concur. Well said great post.

3.) 23 Jan 2023 02:56:42
PSav we have AJ now who looks a better fit for the team all round and has 4 years on JJ so will only get better, we also have AR who gives 150% for the jersey and the fans and he's dependable defensively. I liked JJ but like Ange, if a player isn't fully committed to the cause, then its a bye bye from me, remember the commitment from the players going for the 10? Half assed isn't going to win titles or silverware.
HH.

4.) 23 Jan 2023 09:59:01
You just have to look closely at Anges interview the other day, he was asked about players getting more playing time and he said, it is up to the players to work hard, keep themselves fit and show themselves in the best light in training and they'll get game time, the ither option is they get it somewhere else. Depending how you read into that it may be they didn't give their all in training as they were not happy about game time or they just want to leave.

5.) 23 Jan 2023 15:29:15
Let’s hope so SW1982. ?
Credit due to Ange and the Club, it’s good to be prepared ahead of losing a player. Changed days.

I’m intrigued by Giorgos Giakoumakis. Looking at his stats for last season they are outstanding. If you go further back, he was previously with AEK Athens and was an unused sub in both legs of the 2018 CL tie against ourselves. He should at least be familiar with Celtic Park. It’s conjecture, but you’d think he’d also be familiar with Barkas. Will that help or does that explain anything?
On the face of it and at the money quoted its a no brainer going for this player. That said, he has to want to come and you wonder why other than relegated Werder Bremen, no one in the Dutch league or elsewhere, has taken a punt on him yet?

1.) 20 Aug 2021 21:29:38
PSav I posted the same earlier in the week as to why no one else has shown any interest in him .

2.) 20 Aug 2021 21:41:33
He only scored One league goal for AEK in 30 league games from 2017-2020.
But I was really impressed with the video of his goals from last season.
He scored plenty of good headers and with his movement was also good.
It’s hard to tell from videos but I thought he looked better than the £7 million Antwerp forward we were linked with.

{Ed007's Note - Mikey looked into Giakoumakis' record at AEK, Buzz and most of his 30 appearances were coming on as a late substitution.}

3.) 20 Aug 2021 22:13:58
To put Giakoumakis’s efforts last season in perspective, one of VVV-Velo’s league results was a 13-0 drubbing by Ajax.

Hopefully we weren’t scouting their centre halves as well 😁.

4.) 20 Aug 2021 22:22:51
Mickey was right Ed.
Giakoumakis only played 3 full league games out of the 30 matches.
He only played an average of 28 minutes in league games for AEK.

{Ed007's Note - Cheers, Buzz.}

It’s clear now that the Celtic board 100% absolutely knew when they put out the season ticket renewal earlier this week that the ex Bournemouth manager wasn’t coming. If you read it again it’s a disgraceful attempt to hoodwink fans. Some might not think that’s important but it’s critical. The board are not to be trusted.

Agree with BigJan. Starfelt is the Ernie Wise to Carter Vickers Eric Morecambe ?
His record when CCV is not there says it all.

Carl Starfelt’s domestic CCV partnership stats are great but IMO they mask a reality in terms of his own performances.
Give consideration to Starfelts big game Celtic record.
In his first season he was. Out jumped by Souttar for Hearts winning goal at Tynecastle. Out jumped by Helander for winning goal at Ibrox. He conceded a ridiculously poor own goal in our Euro qualifier. He had an absolute stinker in the League Cup Final culminating in being out jumped by Hanlon for Hibs goal. He lost Sakala to score an OG during our defeat in the Scottish Cup semi. These were all big games. Last season. He committed a rash tackle to concede a penalty at Ibrox. This was followed by another daft conceded penalty versus St Mirren in the cup. Starfelt has limitations. Under the ball, he’s not strong and it’s worth noting he doesn’t provide any threat in the oppositions box either. He can be sloppy in possession (which is possibly because he’s a right footer who predominantly plays on the left) . As a consequence Celtic’s defensive record when CCV drop’s out the side is poor. Starfelt missed 5 of 6 CL games last season. We’ll never know, but it would have been good to judge him in those games.
Its just my opinion but I wish he was as good as that domestic record (with CCV) suggests, but he’s simply not. At the very least, he definitely won’t take us to the next level.

We lost. I’ll get over it quickly and I reckon this time a lot of fans will as well. Today was a difficult one to take but absolutely NOTHING like watching the side under Neil Lennon.
There’s little credit in defeat but a bit of perspective please.
It was our new managers first derby, we also had 5 debutants in the fixture and we had no support there to back us. We bossed the game for spells and I’d prefer to recognise the important fact that this was the first game against them in a couple of years where they were genuinely uncomfortable. That is an embarrassing slight on Lennon not Postecoglu. We do have clear shortcomings obviously, Postecoglu is still laying down his way and is also having to sort out the IMMENSE mess he inherited in every corner of the Club but a blind man can see he’s made great progress. Today a couple of players played out of position. Lesson learned. We are rebuilding and there is a bigger picture. Did anyone seriously think we were going to coast it today?

A very considered opinion Del Bhoy but I reckon it’s a stretch to summarise the season past as an amalgamation of issues that no one predicted. I think that’s a bit generous Chief.
Irrespective of predictions the preparations were poor. Huge swathes of our support were not confident in the manager. Those concerns were proven 100% correct. Many also had (and still have) issues with the boards handling, particularly Peter Lawwells year-in, year-out parsimony. One of the best paid CEOs in the UK should have done a better job, put simply we should have been prepared. By example Ajeti was undoubtedly a cheap option. Put simply, we needed a forward and went for the cheaper alternative. This is just one example of the general mismanagement. If we are honest the first season the Bangers put together a strong challenge we weren’t ready. Shocking admission.
I hate to kick a man when he’s down but on Neil Lennon’s reappointment, some fans may have been happy at the time. The majority may even have done the honourable and got behind him but I repeat, huge numbers were not confident in him or happy with the way the appointment was made. They, like me would suggest a negative outcome was predictable. I hope your rite about Dominic Mackay.

In defence of Graig Gordon, he saved a penalty against Beer Sheva in our final 2016 CL qualifier. Had he not saved it, we were out on away goals and kissing goodbye to 20M+. That’s every bit as important (and possibly more so) than most penalty saves in our history.

In fairness, it was Lennon who played McGregor at LB (Cluj CL qualifier 2019) . On reflection, an insane decision in the circumstances, but not Rodgers one.
In his time, Rodgers, very briefly played Armstrong at LB. It rejuvenated Armstrong and brought him back into the team. It was in the league, to cover injury and was temporary. He quickly moved back into midfield thereafter.
I’d be weary of playing players out of position too often (even Hatate) . It won’t work against better opposition.
