I’m intrigued by Giorgos Giakoumakis. Looking at his stats for last season they are outstanding. If you go further back, he was previously with AEK Athens and was an unused sub in both legs of the 2018 CL tie against ourselves. He should at least be familiar with Celtic Park. It’s conjecture, but you’d think he’d also be familiar with Barkas. Will that help or does that explain anything?
On the face of it and at the money quoted its a no brainer going for this player. That said, he has to want to come and you wonder why other than relegated Werder Bremen, no one in the Dutch league or elsewhere, has taken a punt on him yet?

PSav I posted the same earlier in the week as to why no one else has shown any interest in him .

2.) 20 Aug 2021 21:41:33
He only scored One league goal for AEK in 30 league games from 2017-2020.
But I was really impressed with the video of his goals from last season.
He scored plenty of good headers and with his movement was also good.
It’s hard to tell from videos but I thought he looked better than the £7 million Antwerp forward we were linked with.

{Ed007's Note - Mikey looked into Giakoumakis' record at AEK, Buzz and most of his 30 appearances were coming on as a late substitution.}

3.) 20 Aug 2021 22:13:58
To put Giakoumakis’s efforts last season in perspective, one of VVV-Velo’s league results was a 13-0 drubbing by Ajax.

Hopefully we weren’t scouting their centre halves as well 😁.

4.) 20 Aug 2021 22:22:51
Mickey was right Ed.
Giakoumakis only played 3 full league games out of the 30 matches.
He only played an average of 28 minutes in league games for AEK.

{Ed007's Note - Cheers, Buzz.}

It’s clear now that the Celtic board 100% absolutely knew when they put out the season ticket renewal earlier this week that the ex Bournemouth manager wasn’t coming. If you read it again it’s a disgraceful attempt to hoodwink fans. Some might not think that’s important but it’s critical. The board are not to be trusted.

RIP Dr Jo Venglos.
Dr Jozef always came across as dignified and history has proved he was a better Celtic manager than he was given credit for at the time. Regardless we owe him a lot.
He brought in the likes of Mjalby and a wee 33 year old few ‘experts’ rated (despite 74 Czechoslovakia caps) .
Just a wee Dr Jo fact which adds to the poignancy. Older fans will recall that one of Celtic’s finest European performances of the 80s was a 5-0 demolition of a decent Sporting Lisbon in 1983. Brilliant night and the first time I remember seeing the Lime ‘Love Street’ kit. We overturned a 2-0 1st leg deficit. Sporting’s manager that night . Dr Jozef Venglos. You’d like to think Celtic Park stuck with him that evening and it’s how he knew Lubo was made for us.
God Bless and thanks for the memories.

RIP Dr Jo. Still got a shirt signed by him in my collection.

2.) 27 Jan 2021 08:35:33
Seen someone saying tbe good doc signed Larsson always thought win signed the king.

3.) 27 Jan 2021 09:03:10
I didn’t know Dr. Jo was Sporting’s manager on that special night.
Celtic were lucky to get out of Lisbon with only a 2 goal deficit in the first leg.
Dr. Jo managed Aston Villa and he was the first manager in England’s top division to be born outside of Britain or Ireland.

Jansen signed larsson.

Celtic statement translated.
“There is no complacency whatsoever.
[. we really didn’t see this coming! ]
We now need strength in adversity.
[we haven’t got any contingency plans and we’ve come up well short with initial enquiries for a replacement manager]
“We know that many Celtic supporters share very honest and real concerns and they are being heard by the Club.
[We might be in the TomKite but under no circumstances is this the time to be listening to our the supporters. They are a shower]
Every decision taken, both on and off the park, is with the Club’s best interests at heart.
[. Whilst it’s clear we’ve screwed this up we will just tough it out. hopefully it will go away soon]
This is not about any individual, but about Celtic Football Club as a collective.
[Dermott really isn’t happy and just to repeat. isn’t interested in what the collective think. The rest of us on the board don’t have the testicles to challenge him]
“Together we have faced unique difficulties in the early part of the season. While some of these were beyond our control, of course we recognise we must improve.
[Lets blame C.V. . cause only Celtic are affected by that! . Also, Rangers not being crap was completely unforeseen]
“There is a long way to go and everyone at the Club is ready for the challenge.
[I’m only here till the end of the season and we don’t need to sell season tickets for another 6-7 months]
“Later this month, Celtic will attempt what no other club in the world has achieved – a quadruple treble in domestic competitions. We can best prepare for that and for our other remaining competitions this season by moving forward together, with the sole aim of achieving continued success for the Club. "
[We are out the CL, EL, LC and are well off the pace in the 10IAR league season. In spite of that it’s totally not complacent to say we are like “no other club in the world”. Also because we are so unprepared and unprofessional and don’t have contingency plans we will just need to suck it up! ].

Fair assessment. the 4 in a row for me was more 'look. a pretty bunny' distraction attempt.

Out CL, UEFA and LCUP with very poor performances. Well off the pace in the League. The manager has to go. Our only hope of challenging in the league is to change now and try and get more out existing squad. To be honest I’d forgive the new manager not succeeding this season if he could at least bring back some pride and professionalism. That’s how bad it’s got.

We lost. I’ll get over it quickly and I reckon this time a lot of fans will as well. Today was a difficult one to take but absolutely NOTHING like watching the side under Neil Lennon.
There’s little credit in defeat but a bit of perspective please.
It was our new managers first derby, we also had 5 debutants in the fixture and we had no support there to back us. We bossed the game for spells and I’d prefer to recognise the important fact that this was the first game against them in a couple of years where they were genuinely uncomfortable. That is an embarrassing slight on Lennon not Postecoglu. We do have clear shortcomings obviously, Postecoglu is still laying down his way and is also having to sort out the IMMENSE mess he inherited in every corner of the Club but a blind man can see he’s made great progress. Today a couple of players played out of position. Lesson learned. We are rebuilding and there is a bigger picture. Did anyone seriously think we were going to coast it today?

A very considered opinion Del Bhoy but I reckon it’s a stretch to summarise the season past as an amalgamation of issues that no one predicted. I think that’s a bit generous Chief.
Irrespective of predictions the preparations were poor. Huge swathes of our support were not confident in the manager. Those concerns were proven 100% correct. Many also had (and still have) issues with the boards handling, particularly Peter Lawwells year-in, year-out parsimony. One of the best paid CEOs in the UK should have done a better job, put simply we should have been prepared. By example Ajeti was undoubtedly a cheap option. Put simply, we needed a forward and went for the cheaper alternative. This is just one example of the general mismanagement. If we are honest the first season the Bangers put together a strong challenge we weren’t ready. Shocking admission.
I hate to kick a man when he’s down but on Neil Lennon’s reappointment, some fans may have been happy at the time. The majority may even have done the honourable and got behind him but I repeat, huge numbers were not confident in him or happy with the way the appointment was made. They, like me would suggest a negative outcome was predictable. I hope your rite about Dominic Mackay.

Chill Malika20, it’s just an opinion. and I’m not on anything (yet) lol. To repeat, I don’t think Ntcham has performed this season. Do you think the manager and coaching staff have managed him properly? If it’s laziness, how has that been allowed to develop? Whether he’s a player who wants to leave or is just a numpty generally it’s the managers job to get him out on the pitch playing. I’m not overly defending Ntcham, I just think any player or squad take their lead from the manager.

Olivier Ntcham may well be a moody so and so but he has so much ability and quality. Our coaching set-up led by the manager is clearly inept. Evidenced by results and the fact EVERY player is going backwards? If Sly are correct and its 4.5M in the Summer this outcome highlights the clubs incompetence. I don’t think the player is blameless, his performances have been awful this season but he has been criminally mismanaged IMO.

Crystal Palace currently have a manager and so I doubt Eddie Howe will be offered his position any time soon. One of the prominent search engine articles linking Eddie Howe with Palace is actually from 2011. Until he is announced, its not certain obviously but I think we can treat the Palace links as tenuous and a bit of wishful thinking in some parts.

Lethepeoplesing quite a few Celtic fans think giving a Guard of Honor is the right thing to do. It’s disrespectful referring to those fellow fans as a Bellen*s and muppets. A lot of fans believe by not doing it we’re just following their parochial and pathetic approach.

It’s ironic, Peter Lawwell would rarely let players overstay or run down their contracts if he could avoid it. If he’d applied the same principle to himself.? It’s harsh to say but IMO he lived off past achievements but more likely, anticipated glories. Lesson for us all. In time Peter Lawwell will get the credit he fully deserves. Rite now it just feels a bit raw.
