Like the rest of us, I am waiting every day for THE announcement. Whether it's Eddy Howe, or Eddy How-No, depending on the rumour-mill. Frustration, doubt and hesitation are negative words, becoming too familiar when it comes to Celtic; whether it's haggling or stalling on transfers, or indeed the caliber of quality, substitutions during a tough match, or naming a new manager when there are no showers available. Driving-on from a position of strength has always been a failing going way back with Celtic and this complacency has cost us - although we never learn. The new manager has to be as big an appointment as MON or the current Leicester manager, simply because we need a lightening bolt to snap this sleeping giant back to life and get our priorities and values back to (Celtic) basics. Domestic dominance, that will ensure door number one in Europe and resurrecting our once proud European reputation, where teams wanted to avoid Celtic Park and not like these days when they rub their hands before an easy tie. Common sense suggests decent European runs attract better players, MON, WGS and NL's first stint proved thatnand the current squad we have also backs-up the reverse, with recent very average transfer windows and even existing players looking to the exit door. Having zero supporters has hurt Celtic more than most others, but we have to be farsighted and ambitious in this appointment so we don't end up like the 1990's again with a revolving door for managers and players alike. My early preference included Benitez Petrescu, or Martinez; with Moyes showing up well on the rails after his dodgy period in and around the Man U experience. However, I wait and commit myself to whoever the next manager will be and just hope we get it right in every aspect?

Good post OAB2 and sums up the past, present and hopefully a positive future for our Club 👍. HH.

2.) 05 Apr 2021 18:04:05
Great post mate and I think you summed up how we are all feeling.

3.) 05 Apr 2021 19:30:48
We're all somewhat disillusioned at the moment. We need some GOOD news. HH.

Speculation, rumours and reports, would suggest Eddie Howe is the man? The guy was out of work way back in August 2020 and although he may have been waiting for 'better offers', it's a shame we were stuttering and stumbling all Autumn, instead of doing something about it back then? Not saying that all would have been rosy; as we had several factors to deal with and it was evident back then that we were losing the place. To surrender two of our trophies so early was bad enough, but to be humiliated by such an average team (we seem to have forgotten how to beat) and gift the title, still rankles with me every waking day. Managers with no previous Celtic connections (in my lifetime) have had very mediocre experiences, with Wim Jansen an exception. Brady, Venglos and Barnes flopped, while McParland and Deila, had success, but ended in failure. However, the reverse could be said of Davie Hay, Tony Mowbray and Saint Tommy Burns, who had mixed fortunes with some success. Whatever happens, we need to be as professional and positive as possible to repair, rebuild and re-establish our dominance and regain some European credibility.

I was hoping for a manager and DOF who had previously worked together because Celtic have a big rebuilding process and I think it will give us a better chance of hitting the ground running.

2.) 02 Apr 2021 11:07:44
Agreed Buzz, that would make sense and could still happen.

3.) 02 Apr 2021 11:21:18
OAB don't be blinkered by your green tinted specs they are not an average team by our standards.
You can't go unbeaten in the league and be average, we have to see the challenge and rise to it.
If we think we can go out and get average players and win the league then we are beaten before we start.

I know others have more patience and confidence in our management recruitment process than me; but I am beginning to worry, as to where this is all leading leading and if, - as reported - it is down to Keane, Howe and A N Other, there seems little excuse for this to be dragging into April, unresolved.
The gauntlet from Govan has been well and truly thrown down. Our European reputation is also in tatters. Then there's the small matters of the Captain leaving, loans expiring and several players heading for the exit. I appreciate there is still some of the current season remaining, but that takes us close to June, with qualifiers and the Summer transfer window close behind. Sort it out Celtic.

OAB2, your post makes a lot of sense as usual. I only hope we've got a competent D. O. F and Manager signed and ready to be announced with discussions on players (present squad and future signings) having already taken place.

If not, we'll again be starting a season on the back foot but, if I'm honest, my expectations as fas as the CL goes, are nil, given the present state of affairs.

2.) 29 Mar 2021 11:45:50
Everybody is hoping they grasp the opportunity to react in an ambitious manner. Nobody really believes that though. We all have the experience of a board who stood back and let a deed club overtake us. Try as I might to say, surely now we act, I can't quite believe we will. All the talk, and I remind myself it is just talk, of DD wanting his pal above other better candidates, hints that nothing has been learned. If they are going to show in Keane, then get it done. We don't have time. Make A decision and get on with it .

3.) 29 Mar 2021 14:46:49
Personally I think we will be waiting till may/ June to appoint manager for 1 of 2 reasons, either the man we want is in a job and won't come till end of season or the man taking over wants this season out the way as its been a disaster and wants to work with players in pre season and try and turn a bad season around with his own players. The only problem I see is selling season tickets to some supporters on a trust us ticket. On a separate issue when does sfa need to notify for fans at euros as this will have a big impact going forward on our return next season surely,?

Like others on here I detest the International Breaks and after the previous rounds of games, where CV was confirmed and even spread, I am astounded that we are allowing players to fly around a world, where several countries enduring a 3rd wave and total lockdown; while domestic travel here is suspended or severely restricted. No wonder this is not going away (vax or not) .

Onceabhoy 2

1.) 26 Mar 2021 14:35:02
OAB2 - France, Germany and Italy (to name a few) are fecked, the rate that vaxs are being administered cannot keep up with the number being infected.

The ordinary punter cannot travel abroad (and rightly so) unless for a couple of very specific reasons but it's okay for those (because they play fitba) to jump on a plane to do so.

Football should never be essential - insane.

Alright Ed; hope you have no ill effects after your vax/ (I go for mine on the 17th March) . Anyway;
Going back to when NL departed amid 'mitigating circumstances' and secrets etc. Do you think any of the facts will actually come out and if so were they all in-house or wider?

Onceabhoy 2

{Ed007's Note - The jag's been a bit rough, OAB but with my luck I was expecting that lol.
The truth will come out but it will be shrouded in gossip and made up nonsense. I'd totally ignore talk about fights and falling outs in the dressing rooms etc .}

i was of the opinion that JK should have walked as part of a very flawed and disjointed management team. However, I did accept that if the Board continued to be as impotent and culpable regarding the mess we are in and had not identified an immediate replacement, then it meant they had to appoint Kennedy as caretaker until such time? Initially, we were the same predictable and pedantic Celtic, although unbeaten, but in the last few games we have created nearly 100 chances and shots on goal, so our notorious Board may see this as another convenient and very cheap option? I only hope the new CEO starting in a weeks time can alleviate any such fears and anxiety?

The guy has some record, so I would imagine the challenge he wants might be on a grander scale? Would be an amazing appointment, if we are still looking?

The longer the negotiations go on, the more fake news and mischief making speculation there will be. However, it would all go away if and when the club have something to report.

Aye right enough Ed; Jim Spence - the only honest sports journalist in ALL Scotland, who was sacked for his honesty. The rest are too delusional/ corrupt, with a handful that are too scared to speak-out.

He has got the team creating chances and today for a change we took a few more than in previous weeks. However, I still stand by original view that he should go and learn his trade just like Tommy did at Kilmarnock and let's see what he can achieve, who knows if our next appointment will last months or years?

I agree Madden is the best of a horrendous lot of the usual hand-picked few, although he can have his moments as we have seen before. I wonder, also if red-card Ross will be at his second home? Bottom line as always is turn-up and play to our full potential, but we are (unusually this past while) , on a wee run of games without a win against them and a positive announcement might have given a boost?

Said ages ago that this was a major concern for me personally as the Celtic job used to attract a lot of attention and usually fairly quick decisions when offered the job. Last season highlighted a lot of problems from top to bottom and I worry that some internal issues and potential hurdles are dissuading more applicants or enquiries? The post has been available for months, if you accept that NL's coat was on a shoogly peg for a while, so why are we dawdling and although there is a lot of negativity and fake news going around about Howe, this important business should have been an urgent priority, as there are several matters that will need immediate attention and scrambling about until June/ July does not augur well for immediate recovery.

Too many like that, are so scared to single-out Sevco and say what they really mean; so it's very convenient to pair us off.

Why waste three months treading-water, with a management team that have an uncertain future and half a team that won't be here? Appointing a manager now will give him a chance to assess the squad and maybe even convince a few quality players to stay-put? It also gives him a settling-in period where he can familiarize himself with Scottish football's 'top six' and a cup to play-for. He will not be accountable for this season because it has gone with the wind. We have went into previous seasons under-prepared and unfit, so here is a chance to set the foundations, or else we wait for a new-broom scenario in June/ July, brisk introductions, transfer window, contract talks and CL qualifiers all in a fortnight of starting a new job?
