For the first time in his Celtic career so far Brendan is maybe reaching a crisis point in his management .
Thursday he must qualify for Europa League by drawing nil all or winning .
Sunday's game against the noisy Ibrox club is a must win also. Brendan and his players must put the Young pretender Gerrard and his mob in their place by beating Rangers2012 again .
B R the transfer window will be closed, no point in talking about whether we are stronger than last season or not .
Our transfers or lack of them have two sides to story, bad buys in January, B R choices and lack of activity in this window P L fault . Whatever the reason we will be where we are on Sunday and will have best squad in Scotland.

28 Aug 2018 23:15:25
Best squad in Scotland? Not if we get beaten on Sunday. Best squad means not a lot. They have to perform and right now they are not doing that. If BR gets turned over by SG he can forget top job in EPL. They will go for SG. BR needs to win on Thursday and Sunday.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2018 07:22:36
imo Liverpool have already bookmarked SG for the next managers job, IF, he proves himself at sevco.
Man City basically are happy to see Celtic as a club they can send their bench-warmers to get some game time and be assessed further.
Liverpool, because of the SG connection, are now doing the same with sevco.
It's like JS going to Dunfermline and Hibs to cut his teeth in management.

I see Athens went through to champions league, what a missed opportunity . They will be whipping boys ( even more than us šŸ˜‚) still gutted . They really werenā€™t that good šŸ™ˆ.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Needing a penalty at home to go through on aggregate as well šŸ˜” I blame the players for that, we should have had enough to beat them and too many of them just didn't turn up.}

28 Aug 2018 22:32:48
Itā€™s the same old story where we donā€™t get started away in Europe until weā€™re a goal down and by then it was inevitable.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Aug 2018 22:55:49
lustig played a big part in our downfall against athens ED.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - But he wasn't the only one, the bottom line is we should have had enough in our locker to beat AEK, granted injuries, fitness and the Boyata situation didn't help but we should have beaten them easily.
Everyone's going on about the defence but the creative department of the team, Rogic, Forrest, Sinclair are more - or at least as much - at fault imo.}

28 Aug 2018 23:50:39
Agree with you ed, after all the crap that went n before we should still have had enough as a team to go through. nothing wrong with the team picked, if the players fail to stop basic crosses, and stand motionless as forwards are in our box thereā€™s not much we can do. I appreciate we didnā€™t put enough of our chances away but like most teams, we need to keep clean sheets first to give us a chance. We go into games having to score two at least to win games now which isnā€™t always easy. Out defending this early part of the season has looked like Ronnie is back in charge where no one wants to put their head on things .

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Or a Rodgers team last season.... Yellow card for Ronny bashing imo....

29 Aug 2018 09:22:41
We may well have had enough in the squad to beat AEK but surely addressing the issues from previous European campaigns would've given us a better chance? The team is a little stale n predictable n needs lift, not doing this cost us Ā£40mill windfall, bonkers.

Ed and the rest of the guys on here. Do you actually see anyone coming, I mean it's wednesday tomorrow and although we have been linked through the media with various players there is still nothing concrete.

Brendan was saying he wanted 4 in but still no movement.

Ed if you think or hear of anyone coming in do you think we will buy or will it be loan (s) .

We've had plenty of time to add the quality that Brendan speaks of and I realise it is hard to get the guys he may want but I just don't have a good feeling about strengthing the team.

I hope I am wrong and we get a good player or 2 in but I suppose we will need to wait and see.

Hail hail šŸ€.

If Boyata goes weā€™ll bring in a centre back on loan. If Dembele goes weā€™ll bring in a striker on loan. We may also sign a centre mid on loan.

So to summarise:

2 out
Ā£30mil banked
3 in
Zero transfer fees paid.

28 Aug 2018 20:54:20
We might get 1 loan but canā€™t see any more.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Aug 2018 21:23:03
If it's one loan can't see Brendan putting up with the Board's bullsh*t for too be Long.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - The board's bullshit? They brought in his two first choices for the CB position in January, they brought in his first choice understudy to Gordon and they brought in Edouard this summer, I doubt the board expected to be needing to fork out on more CBs after delivering what the manager asked for in January not to mention the players who we've signed who are lifting a wage and offering absolutely nothing to the team or sitting on the bench or the bumper new contract's for players
There's been a major **** up this window but apart from the McGinn debacle I don't see what the board have done wrong, didn't Rodgers say himself we would be waiting until the Pub League window closes to see what's available? Maybe players are holding out until the last minute to see f they get better offers elsewhere?
If Rodgers ever thought there was a realistic chance of signing players like Cristiano Piccini then he's a fool and maybe he (and Congerton needs to raise his game BIG time) clearly doesn't understand the market we CAN shop in.
Are the targets - apart from McGinn this summer - being provided by Congerton and authorised by Rodgers realistic?}

28 Aug 2018 21:57:45
I think the Board may decide that they have put up with Brendan's bullting for long enough . The Board have a very definite policy of buying young talent, playing them for two or three years and selling them at profit .
Most of Brendan's buys cannot be moved on at any price and very oftenCeltic may have to pay part of their wages .

People want Dermot Desmond to step in, if he does it could be the end of B R 's reign at Celtic Park . D D is very fond of Jimmy Mc Guinness who is looking to come back into soccer and lives in Scotland.

BR will be gone at end of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Ffs Johnny, you'd give Nick Cave depression.}

29 Aug 2018 01:16:00
Ed he will be gone. He has had good backing. Do you think he was talking about lack of backing from the board for any other reason other than to protect his reputation? He can walk away and claim he was not backed. If SG turns him over this season he has a problem. Unless he wins the league he will be off.

Rich, they would need to go through a medical. If the medical is not done by Thursday then deals are not happening.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - A doctor's certificate, a cupped hand of the hairy brain and cough would suffice. A medical can take hours or can take minutes depending on the paperwork and grip & intuition of the hairy brain cupper. It's not something you want to go get caught up in in, the cupping or intricacies of transfers.
Fax machines are still a bonus believe it or not.}

28 Aug 2018 19:24:06
I read that Gary Cahill has knocked back 3 Turkish clubs who all wanted a loan deal, his family would not travel with him, and he said he will try to fight for. His place at Chelsea, sari has told him that's not possible, he is not in any plans, worth a loan surely?

Someone hovering up the Celtic shares again today (Y)

That is an all time high Ā£1.46 it jumped again in the last couple of mins and up over 5% on the day

Someone knows what we will be doing incomings / outgoings wise this week and keeps purchasing into a new high

EXACTLY OAB, our players have been succesfull in the past matches v them, they have 8 new players that haven't played us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Aug 2018 15:39:17
The orcs and the media have been banging on about this new defence which is solid as a brick wall (Some thick person got a tattoo of a wall on his legšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚) & our defence is garbage yet they have let in double the goals in the league than we have!

Agree4 Disagree0

28 Aug 2018 17:48:35
Pud - we have played the 2 poorest teams in the league and lost against Hearts nothing to brag about imo

Sunday will clarify the gap situation if itā€™s still there.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Aug 2018 17:54:55
Brendan Is that not 8 new players then that will look at our games this season and say whatā€™s the fuss?

This 3 v 3 draw on Sunday shouldnā€™t be seen as a gauge for how they played. Motherwell are a big team of bullies and we certainly donā€™t have that physicality in our team.

The Jam Tarts bullied us and I was very disappointed when Naismith was standing over Hayes that no one stood up for him.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Aug 2018 18:09:43
Kev T So you wanted to see how Celtic would play in the long grass with 10 players v 12.

BR has met EVERY domestic challenge so far - especially the big games against gap-closers, media favourites and flavours of the month.
Our players have seen and done it all before and even although we have still to reach our peak and a high level of consistency, we all know what's expected, demanded and need no extra motivation.

Agree5 Disagree0

28 Aug 2018 13:02:57
Ed how many players are you expecting in the door I read Brendan says he wants 4 Paddy Replaced Stu Replaced a CB and obviously a RB with the deal falling through earlier in the window for the lad from Sporting Lisbon?

I can't see any more than 2 potentially coming in the doors?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I expect 3 or 4 if that's what the manager wants. There was never any deal for Cristiano Piccini to fall through, we scouted the player and that was it, the player himself was looking for CL football in either Spain or back in Italy.}

28 Aug 2018 13:30:22
Ed do you know who Rodgers was referring to when he said he missed out on 2 of the top 3 targets? Clearly McGinn being one, any idea on the other? Thought it might have been Piccini but clearly not.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It might well have been Piccini and Rodgers might well have targeted him but he was never a realistic target.}

28 Aug 2018 13:51:13
Yeah didn't think he was realistic. Maybe it was Paddy.

Any chance of a move for McTomminay? He seems to be down the pecking order at Utd with Fred and Perreira now in front of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - If McTominay is to go out on loan he would be looking for a guaranteed starting spot and he won't get that with us.}

28 Aug 2018 14:04:09
David Cartlidge from ESPN was adamant Piccini only wanted a return to Spain and that there was never any discussions with Celtic. His opinion on Spanish football seems to be quite respected.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Aug 2018 14:46:21
I would prefer Douglas Luiz anyway but looks like heā€™s off to Fenerbahce. So if Brown or Ntcham are injured, unless we sign a centre mid, our options will be either McGregor or Bitton or Kouassi. 2 players who haven't played the position in a while and another who the manager doesn't seem to fancy.

God help us if Ntcham leaves before the end of the window.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't think Ntcham will be leaving - if Rodgers thought that wouldn't he have offered McGinn a starting slot - and I reckon another midfielder will be brought in before Friday.}

28 Aug 2018 16:44:17
Money on two CH's Ed and a Creative midfielder?

A purchase, a loan and maybe an older player out of contract (Y)

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - At least 1 CB, a midfielder to play in the Brown/Ntcham line, a creative midfielder(winger?) and a striker if Dembele leaves šŸ¤ž
2 transfers, a loan and freebie šŸ‘šŸ‘

28 Aug 2018 12:53:56
I always try and stay positive when it comes to all things Celtic.
BUT I have to admit the lack of signings is getting to me.
I hope to God I'm wrong but I can see us not getting any new players in this week.
Am I the only one thinking this?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

28 Aug 2018 13:33:31
No I think thereā€™ll be signings, Iā€™m not convinced weā€™ll get any permanent ones though.

Ed do you know if thereā€™s any update on Chirivella or has that cooled? Bet youā€™re looking forward to Friday mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Yeah I can't wait for my father-in-law's funeral šŸ˜‰ Pedro Chirivella is still available and yes we're still in the mix for him.}

28 Aug 2018 17:51:18
Like the look of Chirivella think he could go a job beside Ntcham giving brown a rest if and when needed, looks like brown is carrying a slight injury at present think Kouassi could play there but next to Ntcham not brown not as creative as Ntcham.

Aye three weeks was brilliant
Had to to buy back extra leave from my company but it was well worth it. No internet, no football- I came back and caught up with the Celtic news and I was like WTF?

No McGinn
No CL
Everyone in a meltdown

Still nothing the Europa league and a shelling for the dark side wonā€™t fix.

28 Aug 2018 12:24:46
If there really is interest in Dembele from both Marseille and Lyon, I'd be looking for at least Ā£20m. None of this money plus disposable player patter - unless it's a centre half lol.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

28 Aug 2018 14:03:43
Sadly, if we do have to sell and the player is keen to go? I would want cash plus a player (s) ; there must be some decent players in either of those clubs that would improve our side in some area?

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Aug 2018 18:18:28
I read that a deputation from Marseille had arrived in London to try to broker a deal for Dembelle .
Who do they think they are, surely if they wanted to do a deal they could at least travel to Scotland.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Aug 2018 11:50:10
This week could be one of the most important weeks in the history of Celtic FC.
Let me explain why: If Mourinho leaves Man u and should the Celtic heirachy fail to land the target players of BR and he wins against SGs new look team at the weekend we may see an offer come for his services from south of the border. After all he fits the Man U profile for the manager they want; someone able to develop young players with an attacking style.
Rogers could be attacted by such an offer and he may feel he would be able to get the better player he craves so badly at Celtic park. With the Irish conncetion at Old Trafford
This could see the end of our dreams of 10 in a row and some support would never forgive PL, DD and the board.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Brendan Rodgers won't be getting the Man Utd job, you can trust me a million percent on that.}

28 Aug 2018 12:38:07
Hi ED007 seeing Douglas Luiz some say we're in the hunt some say going to fenerbachie was he or is he in Celtics thoughts do u know?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note -Sending Douglas Luiz to Celtic was seen as one of the possible options by City because it's easier to get a UK work permit up here but there were never any serious talks that I know of.}

28 Aug 2018 12:45:48
Cheers ED007 I take it there is no update on anything from yesterday and out front of Celtic is all quiet while inside back stage that's where the hard work is being done?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The Unseen Fenian Hand āœŠ is always working in the background, Rich. Sure, how did the TRIFC fan zone get stopped? šŸ˜‰

28 Aug 2018 13:39:23
Utd fans wouldn't want a failed Liverpool manager and if he doesn't. Get rid of the mostly rubbishy players he signed . We need all our players to be contributing to the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2018 16:15:38
I donā€™t know why people are so worried about Rodgers leaving. If any of these English clubs have actually watched us the past year they will be looking elsewhere.

The only team we actually heavily beat last year was The Rangers, every game we try and nick an early goal followed by 70 minutes of passing.

I appreciate we won a double treble and he has qualified for the CL twice but look at the difference in wage bill compared to deila or Lennon.

The only reason Iā€™m worried about him leaving is in case the board replaces him with Owen Coyle or Larsson.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Aug 2018 11:41:32
Ed007.
Heard fae a guy that comes into my that Celtics problem isn't transfer fees but the fact that we will be spending around 60 million in wages by the end of this season.
Seems the board think that is the limit of wage we can spend
So it's got to be a player out for a player to come in
You heard anything like that?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I think the board are bang out of order on to think there's a limit to wages we can spend - they should KNOW that for definite. And if what you say is correct I totally agree with them, our last accounts showed a wage bill of Ā£52 million (I don't see where the next Ā£8 million could be going) which people forget when they talk about the board not spending money - the mistakes are where it's been spent and that is down to Rodgers and Lee Congerton.
There isn't a bottomless pit of money to throw to fix recruitment mistakes like Compper, Benyu, Hayes, Gamboa etc etc
Brendan Rodgers has been here for 2 years - 4 transfer windows - and yet the team that started against Hamilton only had one Rodgers signing in it, Dembele.}

28 Aug 2018 12:38:47
Totally agree Ed.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Are we getting value for money when you consider our wage bill and if not whose fault is that? It's certainly not the board's imo.}

28 Aug 2018 12:54:20
Compper has been very unfortunate with injuries but I can understand the reasoning behind having an experienced CB come in. Of the other 3 you mentioned Ed, Gamboa has never really had any consistency anywhere he's played, Benyu looks incredibly average and Hayes looks like an Aberdeen player in a Celtic shirt. People write up big lists of guys to move out with these guys on them and think it's easy to just get rid.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Compper's injury history was there for all to see, Kev and the worst thing about it is that he was Rodgers and Congerton's choice. Can Celtic afford to be sitting next summer in the same situation with our recruitment department failing so spectacularly? If I was Peter Lawwell I would be bringing in someone to look at our scouting and recruitment policy because since Rodgers came in there's been more misses than hits.
It's not unusual for clubs to bring in outsiders to look at stuff and provide methods of improvement, Andre Villa Boas was sacked from Chelsea because Abramovich brought in a group of 'experts' that found AVB's training methods and drills etc were way behind the standard required.
I'd bring in someone just to watch how things work during the January window and put their plans in place for next summer.}

28 Aug 2018 12:54:37
Hi ed am I not right in saying dembele is a RD signing as he was on Celtics radar befor BR came in?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Well it would technically be a John Park signing, Bobo.}

28 Aug 2018 13:30:38
Great points here. Rodgers has been backed, previously, . he's just wasted it on quantity over quality. The opposite of what he said he was after basically. Would I honestly trust him with a cheque book for 20m? Not too sure. Did Liverpool not employ a panel due to the money he wasted there. As for Congerton, I expressed my doubts over his time at Sunderland. Yet to be convinced, he has time though.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I think the Transfer Committee was already in place at Liverpool but I'm not 100% sure on that.}

28 Aug 2018 13:08:53
I would assume they do know for certain ed
That was just way I typed it.
There have been a few new contracts and couple signing along with general pay increases that will take wages up I suppose
Maybe not as much as 8 million though.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Since January we've lost notably Sviatchenko, Ciftci, Armstrong, Roberts and even Henderson from the wage bill, that should cover Bain, Edouard, Arzani and Izaguirre's wages and probably the pay rises Rogic and KT got last season too. I really don't see there being a significant rise in wages as I expect there will be a few more exits before the window closes.}

28 Aug 2018 13:09:17
Surely Congleton should get the boot after this window and get someone better in. If the signings are still poor then the blame lays at BR feet. If we are looking to improve continuously then the recruitment is one where we need to improve on.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I also have serious doubts about Congerton. I gave him the benefit of the doubt because Sunderland were a total basketcase and Ellis Short cut the entire club's funding to the bare bones but he's not exactly shining and let's be honest John Park was doing a better job in finding players.}

28 Aug 2018 13:39:57
There's a story Brendan chose commper instead of schar.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've heard a few folk saying that but I don't know if it's true or not. Shocking if it is right enough.}

28 Aug 2018 18:22:22
When everything in the garden isn't rosy, there are always plenty of negative posts, some even half true.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Aug 2018 11:19:51
As we know there will be signings but the press wonā€™t know because Brendan will keep them till they r signed before tolling the press. They r just waiting to criticise Brendanā€™s signings and say how the other mobs are , we should stop reading or listening to media they want us to fail this year.
