John Hughes today being linked with a return to Celtic to take charge of the colts team. Could be a fantastic appointment and great for the development of the younger players. And if he is a success it wouldn't surprise me to see him get the managers job in the future.

1.) 03 Jun 2021 13:37:18
I'd have him I'm as assistant manager or first team coach to help the ozzie guy.

Dont know if there's any truth in it but I've been told we want to bring in Toney and Ajeti with Bayo moving out on loan or permanent and Klimala going to Aberdeen on loan for the season.

1.) 05 Aug 2020 17:37:24
I don't see that unless eduarde is off.

2.) 05 Aug 2020 19:18:46
Klimala is going nowhere.

3.) 05 Aug 2020 19:28:29
Find it strange to loan out Klimala, when he is just settling into the club and team-mates, plus getting game-time with goal (s) .
I do appreciate that if you include Griff, to the above equation then we would have too many to accommodate unless Eddy is leaving?
Personally, I would expect us to settle for Ajeti on loan, keep Eddy on an incentive, for one more season. With so much to play for and five substitutes per game, we can comfortably have four strikers.
The cash saved on Toney can go towards the urgent defensive needs?

4.) 06 Aug 2020 15:24:23
Seen somewhere the ajeti deal is loan with perm option if he gets a certain amount of games this season.

Ed please excuse my ignorance but exactly how to transfer deals work? The Wolfsberger president has come out publicly and said we have made a bid for Weismann, but if this was the case wouldn't it either be rejected or accepted. I appreciate that we may not have even made a bid and their president is trying to drum up interest.

{Ed002's Note - The scouting staff will prepare reports on players and provide an idea about price; coaches will look at the players but have no idea about price; they will go to a Director of Football (or perhaps a mix of the finance director and others responsible for the monies) and say we would like this player and we think he will cost £x. Checking against available budgets, the club will likely approach his agent to ask if the player might be interested in the move and a broad idea about the package the player would want, and any broad idea about what the club would want - and what terms they may be open to (cash up front, spread over a year etc.). This sits inside the overall transfer process which looks something like this:

The same way as any other club do. The process should be along the lines of: Clubs will typically informally ask an agent (a) if the player is going to be available, and (b) would the player consider a move to the club. There may be some broad discussion on the sort of deal that would be offered but no more than that. If the answer is yes, it is then necessary for the club to approach the player's club to ask if they would be willing to sell and if they would grant permission to speak to a player's agent formally to negotiate about a transfer and even to the player about actually making a move. This will typically involve the showing of serious interest (perhaps through an offer) or actually agreeing a fee and responsibility for any significant costs (agents fees etc.). Once this has happened the club will be able to speak formally to the player's agent and perhaps the player himself to look at the package that will be involved. Many players are looked at and discussed at a high-level with agents and clubs; a subset of those have an offer placed; a subset of those involve discussions with the player's club; a subset of those involve discussions over terms, and; a subset of those go ahead.

Agents will often try and get more specific details of wages and other financials before they should - but most clubs are happy to follow this process. Players will often talk to other players about moves but, whilst wrong, is tolerated as it would be impossible to manage.

Alternatively, a selling club may ask an agent to find a new club for a player and he will talk directly to potential selling sides about the fee, personal terms and interest.

The rest of the time agents will be on fishing trips trying to find interest in their players.

In terms of what happens when the negotiations take place, broad agreement (player available and open to discussions, understanding of the price) will already have been reached. The clubs will meet to discuss the details of the transfer fee, other costs associated with the move and the structure of the payments and any additional fees (e.g another €5M for winning the Champions League etc.) but this does not take a "few days".}

Thanks for the insight. It’s a complicated game, and shows why leaving it close to deadline is asking for trouble.

{Ed002's Note - It gets more difficult Davie.}

2.) 13 Jul 2020 13:11:09
actually all is needed is honesty from clubs when i was young only corrupt sport was boxing ans maybe cycling and horse racing now all sport is corrupt.

3.) 13 Jul 2020 14:56:40
Intresting read that Ed. Must be a nightmare to get deals done.

4.) 13 Jul 2020 18:21:38
Ed, is there a possibility we may even have players signed and just waiting for the window to open to announce them?

{Ed007's Note - It's possible but I doubt they would do that.}

19 Apr 2020 17:13:15
Ed is there any truth in the Roberts bid or is it online nonsense?

{Ed007's Note - There's not been any bid made but there might be in the future. I'd imagine that there won't be much happening anywhere transfer wise while thing are so uncertain regarding the footballing timetable.}

1.) 19 Apr 2020 18:45:50
On that note Ed what is likely to happen with the transfer window? I’m sure it normally opens round about 1st July. Can that still happen with all the uncertainty surrounding the leagues or is it likely to be delayed until decisions have been made on how and when the football season finishes.

{Ed007's Note - I've no idea what they're going to do mate and it's one of the most important things that needs to be settled pretty soon - probably even before decisions regarding leagues or matches being played - along with expiring contracts, loan deals ending, sponsorship deals.
As things stand come June 30th we'll only have Scott Bain as a first team GK.}

14 Mar 2020 10:15:31
I've been told that Celtic are extremely confident Edouard will sign a new and improved contract and that the club are pushing hard to sign Ivan Tony in the summer who they believe we take over the mantle when Eddy eventually moves on.

1.) 14 Mar 2020 13:52:35
Good news but what was the point of Klimala? Seems a big outley for a future squad player?

Well done to our German friends St Pauli. Beat a full strength and reigning German Cup holders, Borrusia Dortmund 2-1 in the cup tonight ??????? ??.

1.) 18 Jan 2022 22:58:38
Great result Ice Man

☘ ? ☘.

2.) 18 Jan 2022 23:04:37
St, Pauli are having a great season and are currently top of the league.
It’s Hamburg V St. Pauli on Friday night @ 17.30pm live on TV.

3.) 18 Jan 2022 23:47:17
St Pauli have beaten Humburg the last 3 times they have played. Let’s hope they can make it 4 this week ??.

4.) 19 Jan 2022 12:41:00
Thanks ice man it's nice to know pple call me saint Pauli ??.

Here's one for our Buzz. Maeda's goal last night was timed at 3mins 36seconds. Has any Celtic player scored a quicker debut goal?

1.) 18 Jan 2022 21:49:20
Good question Ice-Man,
Barry Robson scored with his first touch but he came off the bench.
I remember Gary Gillespie scored in 9 minutes and I was still queuing to get in, at the Celtic End.
Kris Commons scored in about 6 minutes with a chip at Hampden.

2.) 18 Jan 2022 21:52:39
Ice Man - gonnae no bother him just now. All his talk of stats and records regarding Rangers lack of sending offs and penalties have just gone in one game! He is in mental meltdown!

Good result for The Sheep and us. I didn't watch the game but the stats tell me Aberdeen were the team in this game. Anybody see it? Were Aberdeen that good or Rangers that bad?

I think this also puts paid to talk of us buying Fergusson - he seems to be more valuable to us in the Dons team!

3.) 18 Jan 2022 21:58:58
Good One Stubbsie.
I think beating the Old Rangers 48 year old disciplinary record is enough for them but they will probably still complain.
I’m glad I now have it off my chest. ?.

4.) 18 Jan 2022 22:02:52
Aberdeen were excellent in the second half. Rangers were very poor. Scott brown played better than Ferguson tonight, although his penalty was a cracker from a moving ball. In all rangers are not a great team they just carry a lot of luck and decisions.

5.) 18 Jan 2022 22:35:42
haha bb - you will just have to concentrate on their stats for their home games now! Wonder what odds we could have got for a sending off and a penalty against them in the same game?

Thanks Belbhoy - I assume Aberdeen matched their physicality and they couldn't handle it.

6.) 19 Jan 2022 00:01:48
Ice-Man,
I forgot the Gary Mackay-Stevens 1st minute goal away to Partick Thistle.
I cheated and had a look at Celtic debutant goal scorers.

14 Sep 2021 15:28:10
Does anyone know if there is to be a public sale for the European games and if so when will this happen?

1.) 14 Sep 2021 19:12:38
Ther usually is mate if STH don't all purchase ther 3 match package. Cost me a f@cking fortune this week for me and the weans plus paying for Raith Rovers game! Shoulda got that free!

HH

Mark have you got any information regarding the situations of Griffiths and Ajeti. It looks clear to me that neither are going to play a part this season. Are we actively looking to move them on or will they stay as part of the squad?

{Ed007's Note - Ajeti's agent has been hawking him around for a while but I don't know of much interest, he could be a late exit in the window. I'd also be surprised if LG is still here when the window closes if we get our signings in (and maybe if anyone will take him) with Dundee Utd and Aberdeen being possible loan destinations for him, he would probably prefer Hibs but as far as I know they have no interest in signing LG but again that could change in the next couple of weeks.}

John Kennedy's birthday today Paul. Hope you're going to wish him many happy returns. I've heard he's a big fan of the podcast 👍🏻🤣🍀.

I don’t know if the rumour has any substance at all but Gudmondsson was Alkmaar’s stand out player in the first leg. Played in the attacking midfield role and looked very decent.

I might be wrong but I’m not convinced the lad fancies a move to us. Looks like his preferred option was Werder Bremen but they have now signed an alternative striker. I reckon he’s going to wait and see who else makes a move for him before the window closes. Hopefully we have alternative options that we are talking to.

Nobody scouted Liam Scales tonight. Shamrock Rovers don’t play until Thursday.

If that’s true UI then the Celtic board really aren’t fit for purpose. If there were any indications that a deal for Howe could potentially hit snags we should have hit it on the head and moved onto the next candidate immediately.

The very last part of the press conference he said unless something extraordinary comes along or if something happens to the current squad (I. e injuries) no players will come in.

Timalloy I would have thought it would have been the opposite ?. That lot are struggling playing in front of their home fans and have dropped points to Motherwell, Hearts and Aberdeen as well as losing to Malmö and Lyon. We all know they crumble when the fans get on their back ??.

JFP

Kyogo’s movement, workrate, technical ability are fantastic. However any time he has played out wide he has been completely non existent in each game. The thing is I doubt Giakoumakis has been signed to sit on the bench so Ange has to find a way to play both but Kyogo on the wing is most certainly not the answer. I actually think we have the pesonell to play a 3-5-2 however I believe Ange will stick with his 4-3-3.
