Is it true that James Mac Carthy and Celtic have had a parting of the ways and James is no longer a Celtic player? We can hardly say we are weaker as James, just never made any impression on his return to Scottish football.

For those of us who have any connection with County Armagh in the Demi - Province there is a programme tonight at 8pm highlighting links between Celtic and County Armagh.

The better half's da was Pat whose long since left us his party piece.

There’s one fair county in Ireland
With memories so glorious and grand
Where nature has lavished its bounty
It's the orchard of Erin's green land
I love its cathedral and city
Once founded by Patrick, so true
And it bears in the heart of its bosom
The ashes of Brian Boru
It's my own Irish home
Far across the foam
Although I've often left it
In foreign lands to roam
No matter where I wander
Through cities near or far
Sure, me heart's at home in old Ireland
In the County of Armagh
I've traveled that part of the county
Through New Town, Fork Hill, Crossmaglen
Around by the gap of Mountnorris
And home by Blackwater again
Where the girls are so gay and so hearty
None fairer in Erin Go Bragh
Ah, but where are the boys that can court them
Like the boys from the county Armagh
It's my own Irish home
Far across the foam
Although I've often left it
In foreign lands to roam
No matter where I wander
Through cities near or far
Sure, me heart's at home in old Ireland
In the County of Armagh.

Brilliant…. Always belted out at my grannys in the 1970’s on New Year’s Day… a tradition that when I think about brings a tear. Everyone joined in the chorus. Glen Daly was brilliant at it.

As we look forward to Sunday 3pm Scottish Cup Semi- final against St Johnstone I have a dilemma, was the defeat down to the St Johnstone Manager finding the secret of how to beat us . Or was it down to a lacklustre performance by a team who have played very many high tension, highly competitive games both domestically and in Europe . These games had a bad affect on us and others for example Liverpool .
I think there was one more factor, carelessness in front of goal, substitute Forrest could have had a hat -trick in a short period of time
Are these the reasons for us losing a game which on paper had to be a sure win for us . Maybe there was another reason, but no matter what, Celtic players each and everyone of them who are involved for whole match or 10 minutes, must let the St Johnstone players know from the outset, what happened in the recent league game between us won't happen again in a very long time.

I think we have seen a couple of slumps like that in 2025, where the attitude, speed and application shown against Kilmarnock last week didn't materialize. Originally, I had commented on the the reaction to our CL exit and being so far in ahead in the league from very early on; but who knows? On our game we are streets ahead domestically, as long as the players are focused and hungry to win.
Of course we will have off-days and other teams (especially goalies) will have the game of their lives, but when it comes to the really important games, BR and Celtic seem to prepare and perform very well.

2.) 17 Apr 2025 15:54:12
Wee des,

if this Celtic team cannot convincingly beat bottom of the league St. Johnstone and reach the SC Final and compete for the right to secure yet another treble, then there is a real problem in paradise ?

At Hampden this Holy Easter Sunday, as the Angels and Saints look down from the heavens, I expect the Bhoys to put on a show and win the plenty to spare.

Celtic had previously won 15 consecutive games away to St. Johnstone over the last 9 years according to the commentator.
It’s fair to say St. Johnstone were due a good result against us because we can’t win them all.

4.) 17 Apr 2025 16:30:06
Thank God, on Easter week end Satan and his rogues won’t have any role to play in Scottish Football . Hopefully they will be licking their wounds after their last outing on Holy Thursday.

5.) 17 Apr 2025 16:43:03
I don’t care how we reach the final on Sunday although I would rather it didn’t go to penalties like last season against Aberdeen.

Anything can happen in football which happened exactly 10 years ago this weekend against Inverness CT with Alan Muir and Steven McLean.

6.) 17 Apr 2025 17:32:43
Yep we can't win every game and st J were maybe due a win but that game was one of the biggest of the season in terms of the team being able to thank the fans properly by providing what every single fan in the world wants. which is the chance to win the league in your own packed stadium which fatigue or complacency aside was completely unforgiveable to lose that game.

Last game before the split against a Kilmarnock team whose manager finds it very difficult to give us any credit . His team's tactics match his personality dull with little or no sparks of excitement. McInnes will be happy with no entertainment at all at Celtic Pk if his side can keep us goalless . It's unlikely that will happen, as no matter how lethargic our team can be at end of a hard difficult but all indications are a very successful season, we aren't likely to repeat the Perth lack of scoring in what is our final game before split. A win tomorrow and if Aberdeen don't lose against Barry's heroes we will be champions 13/ 14 seasons.

1.) 11 Apr 2025 15:58:25
If Celtic win and Aberdeen draw, that would be 15 points ahead with 15 points available.
Celtic could officially win it ourselves after the split.

2.) 11 Apr 2025 19:09:04
Sincerely hope the team recapture their form and attitude for the push to a title that has been well deserved - and a bit overdue.

I have rewatched the St Johnstone game on Celtic Tv and I have to say that I think Celtic and Liverpool could both suffering from squad fatigue . Both L'pool and ourselves suffer from having almost full ist team squads of International footballers playing all over the world .
Our form from March last season to the end of the year was unbelievably brilliant, even our Champions League form . Liverpool had a most impressive run of form too, also lasting to end of year . Both clubs never held back and went for victory every game . Neither club has a big first team squad, L 'pool were stretched by injuries and although BR done a fantastic job using his fitness and conditioning coaches to avoid injuries until mid - end of Dec . Injuries and weariness are taking their toil, in both clubs, neither are able to sweep aside opponents as they would have done in first half of season. It would be difficult for Celtic to keep a much larger squad match fit at all times and happy with reduced playing time, especially with no reserve league . BR is able to keep his squad happy by his use of substitutes every game.

Wee des 1

1.) 08 Apr 2025 08:12:10
That’s a fair assessment about both clubs.

Celtic have been quite fortunate with injuries since we stepped up a few gears in March.
That means most of our squad have had little rest since, especially our International players who played games in June.

Last season most of our squad were out injured before March and then we got them all back for the title push.
There was a freshness about our players at this time last season, that we are not currently seeing now.

2.) 08 Apr 2025 09:33:26
All the more reason to play guys like Forrest, Bernardo, Nawrocki and Ralston much more game time than they have had recently.

3.) 08 Apr 2025 09:34:18
That's a pretty lame excuse as Celtic should be able to beat St Johnstone every day of the week.

4.) 08 Apr 2025 11:10:52
Vosahoy, and Celtic usually beats St Johnstone on whatever day they meet them . Nobody makes excuses but some might try to. give explanations.
I prefer to discuss winning SPLs Scottish Cup and League cup plus improvement in CL, and judge as to where out team stands and compares to previous Celtic teams and our opponents .
Some may prefer one off raree result and performance and that is perfectly understandable.

5.) 09 Apr 2025 18:13:54
Celtic mad . We don’t like to play injured players at Celtic and we try not to rush them back after injury . Bernardo and Forrest had reasonable long injuries.

Is there a wee bit of pressure lifted off us for St Johnstone match tomorrow, Sevco lost 5 th home game in a row, so they unfortunately may not give Barry Ferguson the job full time .

More possible bad news for them Leeds Utd are no longer in automatic promotion place
S F 49 ers couldn't take over Sevco even if they has any interest as EFL don't allow ownership of two clubs .

Wee des 1

1.) 05 Apr 2025 18:24:23
I was thinking of the 49er thing as well. I don't give a jot about their takeover as it won't change the landscape of Celtic dominating.
But just for the sake of dashing their false dreams, I'm hoping Leeds don't get out the Championship and that scuppers the t/ o for the buns. Leeds starting to implode so here's hoping.

2.) 05 Apr 2025 19:21:19
49's thing.
Even if 2 clubs are in different national leagues?

3.) 05 Apr 2025 21:23:57
As it stands the championship doesn't allow for dual ownership, however I thought that rule was being changed or relaxed this summer. Regardless, it doesn't really matter a f**k coz rangers are rubbish, and they won't be allowed to spend the hundreds of millions they think the 49ers will pump into them.

I am not so sure Forrest needs to be replaced, two years ago there were posters on here who said he should leave as he wouldn’t get game time here . Forrest is still young enough and fit enough to give us another year or two good service especially if he is used wisely.

4 yrs ago, Mallythetally2 . In fairness certain teams should practice taking free kicks outside the area, as the slightest touch and a dive wins a free kick in an optimum position .
We don’t do too badly at corners as we lack the height of most teams . Usually we have only 2 big strong players and if they attempt to use their weight, ref will penalise him . If Idah happens to play then we have 3 men with a bit of height giving penalty taker some options . We have to be smart with our corners them up them mix up near post, back post and short corners.

I can’t believe what I am reading about the free spirit who left us in mid -season and still very much involved in Champions League .
It’s agreed by most people that when a player pushes hard to leave, wise managers and board usually agree to let him go, as they don’t want an unhappy player interfering with the firs team squad harmony and and togetherness
BR wouldn’t be as highly regarded as he is in UK football, if he had relied on our ist team’s tactics to be based solely on getting best possible service to a striker and not using the best skills of our other attacking players to create and score freely . Kyogo never played as a young player under BR and he given the freedom to play all over the pitch . The seasons that he scored heavily under Ange, ” his free spirit “ wings were severely cut as he played on the shoulder of the last defender . BR tried to improve his skill and participation in match by having him on the last defender’s shoulder, as well as coming short for ball and releasing another attacker who when he played ball in Kyogo would be in his key position.

I wouldn’t want Kyogo back for a few reasons, first of all, his on field standards have dropped and we need better as our ist choice striker. Maeda is playing better as a striker than Kyogo has played this season or last . But many think we need Maeda on the wing for his incredible work rate . .
I can’t believe Board and manager were happy with the timing of his leaving us, mid season whilst still in Champions League .
To me, the most important aspect, is that we already have bought back 2 players after we sold them . I think that is rather unusual in the game I would hate us to do this more often as it’s a reputation that we don’t want to have . It would be bad if clubs stopped buying from us because they thought that they would lose money because players we sold kept talking about returning to us at a very great financial lost to club that bought him from us originally.

I am sure BR target a domestic treble at the start of the season. With our super domestic success for the last 10 yrs or so, anything less than a treble is almost regarded as some Celtic fans as a failure . So BR hadn’t much option but to play his first choice ‘keeper with the lead we have in SPL Sinisalo our reserve
goalkeeper will be under less pressure playing SPL games . He played a full season for Exeter, so he has decent experience.
I would be worried with Schmeichel if he is out for about 6 mths at his age his career at the top could be over.
I wouldn’t really worry about Maeda as he often limps off when playing for Celtic and returns 3/ 4 days later and run his opponents into the ground .
H. ns players lined up the other Sunday to kick, elbow and hit him with anything they could and although he was limping he still gave them a run around.

It will be a real disaster and heads need to role if despite how much they yearn off and desire 56, there is no chance at all that they get 56 before us . After winning 13 out of the last 14 SPL titles, surely to God we can win this years SPL, plus next years and we have 56 titles won to sevco’s one lone title.

From the very top of the club, right to the most bigoted of their fans one thing is uniting Sevco right now . It’s the take over, even though there may be nothing concrete to report, these people have to prepare the ammunition for SMSM to fill their front pages and the whole sports section with the Sevco takeover, even by SF 49 ( ers) .
The gullible Rangers2012 fans think that the SF are going to build a new transfer war crest, if not for this summer, then for the next window . Even if UEFA fair play permitted SF may not be interested in splashing the cash, league position may be meaningless, but annual profit may be most important.

It must be worrying for the SMSM who find Celtic winning frequent trebles tedious, that there doesn’t seem to be anything to stop Celtic . God be with the good old days at the turn of the century where highly respected Orange men like H Dallas, Mike Mc Curry Willie Young, Dougie MacDonald and David Somers, with a blow of whistle they could give Rangers a pen, or disallowed a Celtic goal with full support of the SMSM.
Nowadays although they still manage to cheat in favour of Rangers, the favourite club of SFA, SPL and referees, who sometimes have difficulties with VAR officials, can still manage to stop the play and hinder the better team, can allow tackles on Celtic outside pen area go unpunished, With Scottish referees with the will to help Rangers they will always find a way.

Brendan Rodgers had in the past ( up to say approximately 5 years ago) a good reputation for bringing through youth players and giving them an opportunity to impress on the first team .
I M O there has been a change amongst players agents activities, there was a time when agents didn’t actively try to move many players at around 18 -19 . However players are now been encouraged to move as early as possible, Celtic have lost youngsters to various clubs on the Continent and down South. Some seem to have progressed and others haven’t, some moved in 2019- 2020 and haven’t progressed . Some of those who went to Italy seem to have done well, we are more likely to read about those who are getting first team football than those who are not .
A problem for Celtic is that agents are talking up the chances of moves to young prospects before they can actually move and before he is good enough to play for Celtic . This means player isn’t pledging his future to Celtic and manager is unwilling to play him and give him ist team coaching, only for him to leave for another club.
