First piece of the jigsaw for next season. Scott Bain signs 4 year deal.

Ice Man

1.) 10 May 2018 20:53:57
Good signing which keeper is leaving now De Vrise I take it?

2.) 10 May 2018 21:13:12
Let's hope so.

31 Aug 2017 18:02:38
Rivaldo Coetzee has signed for Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa. That puts paid to any thoughts of him joining in the January window.

Ice Man

1.) 31 Aug 2017 18:07:48
Not necessarily.

2.) 02 Aug 2017 21:48:12
Do they not do medicals in South Africa? 😳.

07 Aug 2017 13:03:16
Reports in France say Monaco winger Alan Saint-Maxamin is having a medical with Nice ahead of tonights deadline. Could it be that Paddy had said "Thanks for the interest lads but it's time for me to head home" 🤞🙏🏻😉.

Ice Man

1.) 07 Aug 2017 13:34:22
Hope so iceman. Be absolutely gutted if we can't get wee paddy back in the hoops.

2.) 07 Aug 2017 14:14:47
Just a report in the French media Gerry don't know how true it is. Just seen Chris Davies has said they are in constant contact with Paddy and Man City and hope a deal can be done.

3.) 07 Aug 2017 15:43:16
And they've signed sneijder as well.

4.) 07 Aug 2017 16:04:57
Seen chris davies press conference and thought it was quite positive about paddy.

16 Jan 2017 12:07:17
With Barry, Guey, Schiederlin and potentially Davis all ahead of James McCarthy and with Koeman admitting he could move on in this window, are we a realistic destination for the boy or is he likely to end up at Palace or WBA who have both shown interest in the past? There was a lot of noise about him only wanting to come to Celtic in the summer but that may have been hearsay!

Ice Man

1.) 16 Jan 2017 14:10:09
In all honesty I think he's going to end up at a mid table English team they'll pay the 15 million no bother they will want to get money in after buying Schiderlin and we'd only be interested in a 6 month loan I think Rodgers has other targets hence Eboue I hope I'm wrong but can't see it at all.

11 Oct 2015 20:09:13
Ed do you think Celtic will make a move Steven Fletcher in January? The reason I ask is due to an interview with RD a few weeks back where he saying he is looking to bring experienced quality players to the club who normally they wouldn't be able to afford but have some affiliation with the club! He went on to talk about Marcus Rosenberg and the impact he has had for Malmo and how Malmo wouldn't have stood a chance of signing him had he not had an affiliation with them! I don't even know if Fletcher is a Celtic supporter but I do know he wants to come back to Scotland and with 6 months remaining on his contract it wouldn't surprise me to see Celtic make a move! I personally do not think we should be going for Fletcher! You got any info Ed?

Ice Man

{Ed007's Note - I've not heard anything about a move for Fletcher.}

1.) 12 Oct 2015 21:33:28
Just my opinion , but I don't think Stephen Fletcher and quality should appear in the one sentence, has he not scored as many goals over the last four days as he has scored over the last two seasons .

2.) 13 Oct 2015 08:40:18
And that was against a pub team chris. A lot of them literally.

17 May 2018 20:41:20
Right Ed this is the part where you make my day (even better than it already is) and tell me there's a chance Armstrong and Moussa will also sign new contracts. Yes? 👍🏻.

Ice Man

{Ed007's Note - The Club would like Dembele to extend his contract but I've not heard of any talks with Armstrong or his agent - that doesn't mean they haven't happened but it was a tough job getting him to sign last year so I wouldn't hold my breath.}

1.) 17 May 2018 22:20:16
I imagine that Armstrong would be relatively easy to replace . I don't mean that Armstrong isn't a good midfield player but to me he is a traditional midfielder that is found at most clubs.

2.) 17 May 2018 22:52:44
Think he is off to Germany?

3.) 18 May 2018 00:42:28
Thing with Armstrong is he ticks all the mf boxes when he is on form and fit. I'd completely dissagree omc and say he would be a difficult and expensive player to replace. Problem is he has had a few injuries, drops in form or played out of position for a good part of his time with us. His spells fit and played in the middle he has been excellent. If he had been fit this season I'm 100% sure we would of scored more goals as a team. Think of the amount of mins we passed the ball left to right and never carried it forward. My only issue is if he goes for 6m I don't think we will punt 6m on a new cm this summer.

{Ed007's Note - John McGinn......?

4.) 18 May 2018 01:12:10
£6m ed? Never.

{Ed007's Note - No chance.}

5.) 18 May 2018 01:18:19
Sorry mate a thought u were touting mcginn at £6m. He's probably worth 4 but as others have said 3 + Allen is about as far as I'd go at this stage.

{Ed007's Note - I just meant as a replacement for Armstrong, reading that back I can see why you thought that.}

6.) 18 May 2018 01:28:06
Time for bed fella, av got a shift to put in the mora. Curse of the tonic wine again.

7.) 20 May 2018 16:35:31
Sell Armstrong and bring in McGinn! Armstrong has never viewed being with us as long term thing, which is fine! Move him on and bring mcginn in who would walk from Edinburgh to sign for us! U think there’s a chance we’ll go for McGinn ED?

8.) 20 May 2018 16:36:43
Try 2m and Allan.

18 Apr 2018 00:38:50
Ed do you think club will look to offer Moussa a new improved deal. I know BR has said on more than one occasion he only expected to have him for two years when he signed for us and I know the majority of us think he will be off in the summer just wondered if you think the club will make efforts to keep him. The guy constantly has a smile on his face none more so than on Sunday. He looks like he's loving life in the hoops! 🍀.

Ice Man

{Ed007's Note - They wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't so yes I think they'll offer Dembele a new deal.}

1.) 18 Apr 2018 13:47:16
It’s too early for Moussa to leave. If he continues with that form next season, especially in the CL, then he gets a better move and we get more money.

Of course we will be offering him a new deal. It will be interesting to see how we took up defensively for the qualifiers. That is where we will see the intent to be a CL level team. If we achieve that, then no one will even get close to us at home.

A Treble Treble anyone?

2.) 18 Apr 2018 17:25:38
The hope is Moussa seems to really love playing for us. His agents seem very level headed and are in contact with BR. I don't think the EPL tempts him that much, or it would have to be a top 4-6 i would guess.

3.) 18 Apr 2018 17:40:09
If he does the business next year, then that type of club will buy him. This year has been a letdown for him and his future us best served with us for at least another year.

4.) 18 Apr 2018 17:57:05
If the Moose is still with us next season then it’s an absolute must that we tie him down to a new deal as after next season he will the be in the final year of his contract. He’s still only 21and has a big future ahead of him, just hope we get to see him in the hoops for a few years yet.

5.) 18 Apr 2018 22:02:49
It really is great to see Dembele enjoying the game again, and showing his frustration when things don't come off. He's unplayable when he is in that zone. Must be pretty cool being one of our French lads in Glasgow I reckon and they're all serious talent!

6.) 19 Apr 2018 00:31:48
If he doesn't sign a new deal then it's definitely time to sell. Just hope he doesn't do to us what he done to Fulham.

7.) 19 Apr 2018 20:44:11
We cannot complain, if Dembele stays another couple of seasons, plays the time we and he signed a contract to do . There is something wrong if we criticise a player for seeing out his contract .
We can have no idea if that is In Dembele's mind.

28 Mar 2018 13:19:09
Would love to see BR go with Ajer and Hendry as the centre back pairing from now until the end of the season to build a partnership together. I know they are both young but imo they're the two best centre halves at the club at the moment.

Ice Man

{Ed007's Note - I said before Hendry came in that I like him and that he would be more than capable of playing for us in Scotland but I didn't think he would have settled in so quickly. Would you be happy to go with that pairing in the CL though?}

1.) 28 Mar 2018 14:23:03
Get them playing as many big games as possible together and they could mature into a great partnership. Throw in Tierney and raleston and it could grow into a long lasting stable defence.

2.) 28 Mar 2018 13:41:35
I would like to see how they do between now and the end of the season Ed. If they form a solid partnership then I would go with them for the CL qualifiers. Maybe Compper could be the other choice. As long as Boyata isn’t part of the equation I’ll be happy. A lot of fans on other threads seem impressed with the lad McKenna at Aberdeen. I’ve seen seen him play before but remember Hull having a couple of bids rejected in January. What’s your thoughts on this guy ed?

{Ed007's Note - I've not seen too much of McKenna but from what I have seen I wouldn't say he's anywhere near the level of Ajer or Hendry. We have enough projects and quality youngsters now so anyone coming in has to be better than what's already here.}

3.) 28 Mar 2018 16:22:02
I like the look of McKenna, hard as nails, reads the game well, looks more than decent on the ball, Good left foot and would bring balance to the defence, definitely one Brendan should be watching .

4.) 28 Mar 2018 18:09:24
If Hendry and Ajer have proved themselves fit and capable to put a run together in the SPL, then I cannot see how they are not first choice for Champions League.
We won't know until we try.

5.) 28 Mar 2018 19:01:02
I think Mckenna would be a good buy if we can get him for a decent price, i like Christie/ hayes too, so maybe a swap and/ or cash, would be a steal and potential profit in it.

Don't see him as a project, then again everyday a day at school. stroll on Saturday. HH.

{Ed007's Note - If you think at 21 he's the finished article and can't get any better, why would we want him?

6.) 28 Mar 2018 21:47:00
For me Ed, no player is the finished article and a player can always improve. comment was don't see him as a project,
Just read my post again and can't find where i stated finished article and can't get any better

Just checked his history: My opinion worth a shot.

Aberdeen since 2014 Loaned out Alloa/ Ayr Scotland U19 Scotland U21 Scotland international.

{Ed007's Note - "Don't see him as a project."}

7.) 28 Mar 2018 22:40:09
Don't see him as project, does'nt mean finished article, somewhere in between Ed, think they call it a Rough Diamond.

{Ed007's Note - Potato, tomato. Chateauneuf du Pape!

Project:

1. countable noun
A project is a task that requires a lot of time and effort.

2.
a. a task requiring considerable or concerted effort.
b. the subject of such a task

noun
1. a proposal of something to be done; plan; scheme.

As you say, 'everyday a school day'.}

8.) 28 Mar 2018 23:22:58
yea think the above just describes football training for a team. HH.

{Ed007's Note - That's OK, I'll keep you right. }

9.) 29 Mar 2018 09:00:45
I would like to see Hendry and Ajer given a run as well but with Hendry cup tied for the upcoming semi it might be a better idea to see how Commper and Ajer to together to get some consistency going into that game.

10.) 29 Mar 2018 23:46:55
If we stick to the 3 at the back would like to see Hendry Ajer and Compper in there see how that goes.

{Ed007's Note - 3 at the back gives me the fear, especially in Europe. I'm hoping it was more a necessity because of injuries than it being Rodgers plan going forward.}

11.) 30 Mar 2018 12:45:59
Coming to the end of his 2nd season I would be worried if B R wasn't experimenting with different defensive formations . Sometimes when he plays what appears to be a std back four, it isn't what it looks like on paper as K T spends the whole game tearing up the wing . I know of one poster lamenting that Lustig doesn't do the same, so he wants a back two.

Most of our experts thought Hendry wasn't good enough for Celtic before he joined us . Quite honesty like McKeena, I hadn't got a notion whether he was good enough or not . I am told that when scouts go to judge a player with a view to signing they watch him for the whole time he is on the pitch, don't take their eyes off him no matter where the ball is, until they have made up their mind . Yet Celtic fans presumably watch Celtic but know whether an opponent is good enough or not .
B R has many good managerial skills, among them is definitely improving players so maybe if a young player has some of the right qualities he may make a player of him
It's refreshing to see the determination and apparent enjoyment Hendry shows.

15 Mar 2018 10:35:30
Ed do you think Scott Allan could be used in a summer deal for John McGinn?

Ice Man

{Ed007's Note - I'd like to think so and with both players only having a year left on their deals I don't think it would be difficult to get a deal over the line.}

1.) 15 Mar 2018 11:26:24
Do you think we have a genuine interest in him Ed?

{Ed007's Note - I know we do, Shug. We've previously asked Hibs to be kept informed of any developments regards McGinn.}

2.) 15 Mar 2018 12:38:02
2m, or around that and Hibs would bite i think. Assuming the boy wants to come to Celtic.

3.) 15 Mar 2018 18:29:54
Using the buffalo calculator he would be worth about 25 million.

13 Mar 2018 18:45:03
Ed what is the situation with Edouard's option to buy? Is the figure actually £7m? Even though I like the player and think he will get better and better I think that would be a hell of a lot of money for a relatively unproven player! Even half that figure seems quite a lot. I reckon £2m-£3m would be a more realistic figure.

Ice Man

{Ed007's Note - £2-3 million when we've spunked £3 million on garbage like Pukki and both Stefan Scepovic and Bangura for about £2.5 million? It's PSG we're dealing with here, £2-3 million won't even cover what Edouard's contract with them. The fee is 8 million Euros but I wouldn't be surprised if Celtic try and extend the loan (and renegotiate the fee) for another season into summer 2019 and by then Edouard will be in the last year of his contract. Like Roberts at City, Edouard doesn't seem to have much future at PSG.}

1.) 13 Mar 2018 19:43:45
Yeah I get what you’re saying Ed. I know you get much for £3m these days I just don’t think that fee is justified for a kid that has not made many senior appearances. Another loan could be a good shout to see him progress further. On the subject of Roberts I think this summer it will be obvious he has no future at City. Do you think Roberts sees himself signing permanently with us or do you think he’ll want to move to a Southampton or Crystal Palace type premiership club Ed?

{Ed007's Note - Roberts still holds onto the hope that he can get a crack at the City first team so City will need to make it abundantly clear that his time's up or Roberts will just look for another loan. If Celtic can agree a fee with City I think we would have a great chance of signing him permanently. Winning trophies and especially playing in the CL is a big pull, add in playing for Rodgers in front of our fans and the fact there's no need to settle at a new club or city with new team mates etc, oh and KT's here :)

2.) 13 Mar 2018 19:47:50
I really like that idea ED; The big fella has really impressed me with what he has done with limited opportunities and although Roberts has had an injury ruined season, I would hope to see him stick around - as on his game, he is a great attacking option and entertainer.
I realize that the defense and goalkeeper is our priority in the summer, but if the rumours of Armstrong and Rogic possibly moving on and the usual speculation over Dembele, I would hope keep both forwards and add accordingly, if and when we lose player (s) .
Footnote:- Where do you see Christie's future as he has been away for two seasons now and I would hate to see him leaving for good?

{Ed007's Note - Rodgers has already said that Christie will be brought back in the summer and given the chance earn a new deal as his contract runs out next year.}

3.) 13 Mar 2018 23:20:05
I don’t see why people think £7m is so steep for Edouard. He’s shown flashes of real talent on an inconsistent basis, which is what you get with teenagers, otherwise PSG would be playing him and not forking our £150m on one of the few teenagers who are consistent at a high level. Dembele has shown inconsistency this season yet in January most of us ridiculed a rumoured transfer offer of £18m.

4.) 13 Mar 2018 23:47:57
I agree another loan makes sense if PSG are up for it .
I don't think if we want the player we should haggle too much, as it might set a good precedence that when we loan a player with a view to buying, we are reasonably good at keeping our word .
I would rather give the £7-8m for him than another young wiz kid who may not settle or perform up in Scotland . We know what we are getting.
