Isn't it great to see the genuine delight in Timo Weah's face due to the fact he's playing for Glasgow Celtic. The way he celebrated both his goals and interacted with the fans as well as the way he talks about the club in his interviews he seems genuinely honoured to be here. And to read his instagram page today he says that we are more than a football club, we are a family. He totally gets it. I'd love him to stay longer than his 6 month loan 🍀.

Ice Man

1.) 25 Jan 2019 02:23:55
Hope the wee man starts on Saturday let’s see him get a full ninety minutes 🍀.

2.) 25 Jan 2019 03:04:08
Cannot wait till wee get the rangers in our own pad and restore natural order. The pace through this team will destroy this team of overpayed passengers . Comon Celtic rap up the treble treble asap and dump Valencia 🍀 great days to be a Tim.

3.) 25 Jan 2019 06:13:50
Nice to see genuine delight in celebrations. Maybe some of the players giving him stick could show a bit more as too many these days seem to just shrug off scoring a goal. It's nicer to feel that connection. The boy Bayo coming in looks like he loves a celebration too. I think just that little bit of freshness in the attacking third will raise the bar.

4.) 25 Jan 2019 11:22:29
What players are giving him stick?

5.) 25 Jan 2019 11:25:27
Wylie Christie says they where winding him up all in good banter.

6.) 25 Jan 2019 11:52:31
About his celebration I think lol.

7.) 25 Jan 2019 13:01:59
It's cause when he scored his first goal he done about 5 celebrations at the once lol. all in jest though and apparently has been warmly welcomed.

8.) 25 Jan 2019 15:21:55
I completely agree. It's great to have such a someone with such a positive energy come in and appreciate what we're all about. I love how he gives the glory to God too. Very humble and he can only be a good influence on the rest of the squad with an attitude like that. The added bonus is that he also seems a bit tasty with the football :D.

9.) 25 Jan 2019 15:30:28
Awrite lol, cheers.

10 Jan 2019 11:50:25
Good to see big Benko in full training in Dubai. Injury must not have been as bad as first feared 👍🏻.

Ice Man

1.) 10 Jan 2019 12:04:18
hope it isn't to bad as he was our best ch apart from the gers game he has looked very good.

2.) 10 Jan 2019 13:30:03
What's the chances of getting him in on a permanent basis at end of the season?

3.) 10 Jan 2019 13:48:35
Nane unless we've got a spare 13mill lying around.

4.) 10 Jan 2019 13:56:36
Personally I thought he bottled in the last Glasgow Sevco Derby.

05 Jan 2019 13:32:35
Am hearing Celtic have withdrawn their £2m offer Bayo and have gone back in with a 6 month loan offer.

Ice Man

1.) 05 Jan 2019 16:06:59
Imagine the scenes.

2.) 05 Jan 2019 16:08:11
Some quarters saying a final bid of 2m take it or leave it. typical.

3.) 05 Jan 2019 16:21:34
We sell a 20mill striker and his poss replacement is in the 2m bracket and we baulk at the fee we never learn lawell at his best.

4.) 05 Jan 2019 17:19:37
That 20 million striker was bought in at under a million.
That's how we work. How hard is that to understand.
Bring them in make them better sell them on.

5.) 05 Jan 2019 18:43:38
Let's think about this rationally. How would the papers know what we have and haven't done in terms of bidding for a player?

I very much doubt the people involved are running to the paper to tell them every intricate part of the process as it happens. Which would suggest the papers are just guessing or are being fed from someone else professing to be in the know but who is also just guessing.

6.) 05 Jan 2019 18:54:29
They don't all have to cost under a million Kev83. We can push the boat out and pay 5mil to make 20mil. Still buisness. Jesus, we could spend 10mil to make 20. Obvioulsy not us, but your statements ish.

7.) 05 Jan 2019 19:12:09
That's right kev think a get that my point is there's 20 mill from the dembelle deal and were haggling over a couple of hundred thousand . How hard is that to understand.

8.) 05 Jan 2019 19:21:34
Holy I don't care how much we spend as long as the we get the right players.
But to say stop buy cheap because we have 20 million from dembele who we bought CHEAP is mental.
If we weren't buying cheap with him we would have missed out on the 20 million.

9.) 05 Jan 2019 19:23:58
I get your point Kev but once that business model has borne fruit to the tune of millions upon millions, shouldn't we then start to spend a bit extra for a more established level of player who we could still sell for big profit in 2 or 3 seasons whilst also improving our levels on the field? I'm happy with us going for this lad because we did spend big on Eddy but if we could do it in a couple of other key positions we could really kick on.

10.) 05 Jan 2019 20:23:34
Kevbhoy here's a question? Will spending the 5 10 or 20 million on one player guarantee that they will be more successful than the million pound player?
Or would it be better to scout properly and puck the best player for what we need?

Remember edouard cost around 9 million and he was a youth player.
A fecking youth player.

11.) 05 Jan 2019 20:25:48
I think what a lot of guys fail to grasp is, the money from the Dembele sale will be in next year's accounts and probably most of it will fill the hole of no champions league money and go to the wage bill.

12.) 05 Jan 2019 20:34:12
It takes a hell of a lot of money to provide ist class facilities, playing, coaching and training for our players . We may not be able to match the EPL wages but we have to do our darnest to give them the best facilities possible . These facilities are important in attracting top and Kung players who will eventually leave at big profit . Celtic shouldn't buy in a £10-12 or £15m player as no doubt it would create a problem in our close net dressing room.

13.) 05 Jan 2019 21:02:28
Kev83 nothing is a cert but I think an example of kev Bhoys point is benkovic, we had a chance at him last year for 6 or 7 Mill, baulked at the fee n now look, we'd bite the hand of Leicester for him.

I suppose we have with ntcham and eddy but If you have faith in the process release the funds.

14.) 05 Jan 2019 21:21:12
That all I am saying and kevs went mental just push the boat out a wee bit more. why lose a player we obviously want because of a few hundred grand it's nuts.

15.) 05 Jan 2019 22:33:15
Some people just want to spend the money, as a sort of symbol, like if you spend £5million on a player then you are guaranteed to get a good player, (wakey, wakey, no you are not) , and if you spend £1million on a player then you are guaranteed to get a not as good a player as the £5million pound player (again, wakey, wakey) , so these people would be quite happy if we spent £5million or more on an inferior player than the one we could get for £1million, because at least the board were showing intent.

03 Jan 2019 19:09:36
So we've increased our bid for Bayo from £1.75m to £1.8m. A bit embarrassing really. I'm all for negotiating but to up our offer by £50k. If we really think this player will make a difference make a proper offer.

Ice Man

{Ed007's Note - I was told earlier this evening that there has been no second bid and that the figure being reported as the initial offer is "wildly inaccurate".}

1.) 03 Jan 2019 19:50:26
Hopefully that's the case Ed. Do you reckon Bayo and Weah are the two strikers that BR is bringing in or will Weah be used as a winger?

{Ed007's Note - Knowing Rodgers it could be anywhere across the front.}

2.) 03 Jan 2019 20:21:47
People need to stop reading the national press or Twitter.
Stick to Celtic sites like this.

3.) 03 Jan 2019 20:29:18
Or left back. 😊.

4.) 03 Jan 2019 20:30:05
What’s your thoughts on Defoe Ed?

{Ed007's Note - As I said on another thread - I've never seen the fuss about Defoe and have had many a debate with posters about him over the years, all he ever had was pace and at 36 that's long gone - his overall record of 242 goals in 638 games is a joke.
I'd have been seriously pi$$ed off if we had signed Defoe 6 years ago.}

5.) 04 Jan 2019 04:20:00
So with the bid for Bayo inaccurate I hope that we might have bided higher than the 1.75/ 1.8m then am hopping then ED?

{Ed007's Note - That's how I took it.}

6.) 04 Jan 2019 12:32:00
All about opinions, but Defoe would have been a brilliant signing 6 years ago.

7.) 04 Jan 2019 12:54:34
I don't massively rate defoe but how is 242 goals in 638 games a joke? that's an average of about 1 in 2.6 games. Not bad considering he has played for some crap teams. Rooneys overall is 1 in 2.3 or something and he wasnt a bad player.

8.) 04 Jan 2019 12:46:25
I dunno Ed, 6 years ago he might have been a decent signing.

9.) 04 Jan 2019 13:15:01
Aye but Rooney was moved all over the park and very rarely played as an out and out striker.
Defoe ( who I did rate) played exclusively as an out and out striker.

10.) 04 Jan 2019 14:41:18
Well rooney was just an example. Defoes goals per game is decent was my point as he did play for a few lesser teams therefore less chances.

11.) 05 Jan 2019 00:38:33
What has his strike rate been say, in the last three years, just out of interest.

12.) 05 Jan 2019 01:20:40
4 goals in 28 appearances for Bournemouth. 38 goals in 115 appearances since 2018. I wouldn't be too worried about him.

13.) 05 Jan 2019 06:41:41

14.) 05 Jan 2019 22:32:35
Defoe is a joke of a signing . No club in England would take him now . Fairly good 3 yrs ago, good 10 yrs ago.
Davis return is Rangers2012 buying a from the occupied 6.
If these deals do go through they won't benefit Rangers2012 on the playing pitch.

17 Dec 2018 22:11:40
A mate of mine who is a big Spurs fan from North London has messaged me today saying there's talk down there that Celtic have been in discussions with Spurs about bringing in Vincent Jansen in January. I'm not convinced this is true as I imagine he'll be on silly wages, however the only other time he has told me a player was moving from Spurs to Celtic was when we signed Robbie Keane on loan and I didn't believe him then either.

Ice Man

1.) 18 Dec 2018 05:20:16
I don't think his wages would actually be THAT silly to be honest. Top end for us, sure, but not astronomical. This is the kind of deal that wouldn't surprise me one bit.

2.) 18 Dec 2018 09:21:53
Didn't we get robbie Keane on loan from Liverpool?

{Ed001's Note - no, he was booted out of Spurs on loan to Celtic after organising a piss up trip to Ireland after Redknapp had forbidden a Xmas do. Redknapp made public statements about how the players would never do that behind his back only to find out later, to his great embarrassment, that the 'quiet golfing trip' club captain Keane had taken them all on was a all-day and night drinking session! Funnily enough I have just finished writing an article which mentions it, that should be up later today, when Ed033 gets the chance to upload it. And finally......It's Christmas it is called. Just a few anecdotes about footballers and Xmas dos.}

3.) 18 Dec 2018 10:29:39
Ed 001 am i right in saying spurs wage structure isn't completely mental like most of the top if the premiership?

{Ed001's Note - they do have a much lower wage bill. For now anyway. It is causing issues. Some players have recently had huge hikes, such as Kane, to try and ward off interest.}

4.) 18 Dec 2018 11:18:01
I thought I read that.

{Ed001's Note - you remembered correctly. Though it is relative compared to teams like Burnley.}

5.) 18 Dec 2018 11:31:46
He looks like one for the treatment table. Should fit in perfectly.

6.) 18 Dec 2018 11:41:15
Think it said they were the lowest paying top 6 side last year and had only recently started paying over 100 grand or something like that.
Article was about them not buying in the summer.

{Ed001's Note - that would be right, they have been paying below the rest of the top 6 for a long time.}

7.) 18 Dec 2018 20:31:13
Hi Ed001, have you got the link to the Christmas article? Sounds like something I’d fancy!

So the missus still isn't speaking to me after I sacked her off on Valentines Day to go to the Valencia game. How am I supposed to break it to her that me and the kids won't be taking her out for Mother's Day as that's when we're playing the Zombies 🧟‍♂️ 🙈.

Ice Man

1.) 19 Feb 2019 16:49:52
Take her to the game ;-) On 1/ 1/ 1958 my dad brought my mum to the Old Firm game and it was only the second day of their honeymoon.

2.) 19 Feb 2019 16:57:58
Lol don’t be worrying mate I didn’t even get my misses a card for Valentine’s Day if we’re playing sevco on mother’s day, her and the kids will be getting ditched. Not the best boyfriend in the world but I make it up to her between the sheets lol.

3.) 19 Feb 2019 17:16:05
Was it Valentine’s Day no wonder she’s no speaking to me 😂.

4.) 19 Feb 2019 17:44:55
She isn't yer maw so nothing to worry about.

That being said if she is intent on doing something, just tell her going out on mothers day is a rip off as they jack the prices up and suggest you go out the weekend before.

Failing that pump her best pal and make sure she catches you. That way she won't want to do anything on mothers day. Then later you can tell her you were drunk and it didn't mean anything.

5.) 19 Feb 2019 18:05:42
There is still a chance we will go to snake mountain on Easter sunday.
The first game after the split lands on Easter weekend.

04 Feb 2019 13:56:36
With all the injuries and Ajers suspension, my team for Wednesday would be:

Boyata (if fit) / Biton

Christie (if fit) / Johnstone

It would be good to see big Bayo make the bench and get on for his debut.

Ice Man

1.) 04 Feb 2019 14:45:24

2.) 04 Feb 2019 18:54:37
Anybody know how far bayo is away in terms of fitness?

3.) 04 Feb 2019 19:31:48
If boyatas fit he'll play.

4.) 04 Feb 2019 22:17:04
I think Weah is a brilliant young striker, but I would be reluctant to start him again for a while yet . He would do more in the last 30-35 mins than most would do in the whole game . I just think at the moment he will provide something different as a sub and isn't likely to be marked ( physically ) as closely as if he started .
He lifts the whole team when he comes on as a sub .

5.) 04 Feb 2019 23:07:34
I agree OMC, think Weah is great but just don't think he is ready to lead from the start. No other reason but my gut feeling. Certain games will suit his style of play. However coming from the bench with his pace makes him a nightmare in the latter stages for defenders.

01 Feb 2019 18:59:54
Interesting to see WBA signed two wingers on deadline day yesterday. Jacob Murphy and Jefferson Montero. If they both make an impact and West Brom make any of the deals permanent ones it may give us scope to extend Burke's loan. Burke has already stated after only two games that he would like to stay. It seems he has not had a great experience at WBA claiming he was "starved of football" there. I don't think we have the finances to make it a permanent deal but another loan may suit. I know they've stated he'll be back in the summer but as the saying goes footballs a funny old game.

Ice Man

1.) 01 Feb 2019 20:12:58
We can't afford to buy him so an extended loan deal would be great I think.

31 Jan 2019 23:35:08
Ed when are we likely to see Bayo get some game time. I know BR said he needed to work on his fitness as he hadn't played since early December but when did Burke or Weah last play competitive football before they arrived! Looking forward to seeing the big fella make an impact whe he gets the opportunity.

Ice Man

{Ed007's Note - I don't see why we won't see him at some point, even just coming off the bench in a couple of weeks.}

1.) 01 Feb 2019 09:22:40
Ice Man I think the problem was that he hadn't been training in that time either. I'm pretty excited to see him and it'll likely be a baptism of fire with some of the games we have coming up.

21 Jan 2019 16:25:57
Ed any truth in the rumours about Sunderland's Josh Maja joining in a Dembele type deal?

Ice Man

{Ed007's Note - The story doesn't make any sense, why would we buy him just now and loan him back to Sunderland when we can sign him on a pre-contract and he'd stay down there anyway?
In saying that, if Rodgers is targeting more strikers it looks like he could be going to go with the formation he used with Dembele and Edouard.}

1.) 21 Jan 2019 21:59:39
That's what we did with Lewis Morgan Ed.

{Ed007's Note - Lewis Morgan wasn't priced at £4 million.}

2.) 21 Jan 2019 22:24:05
I just wondered if Maja would could be a replacement for Weah when he heads back to PSG. I know we have Griff to come back but I think BRs patience is wearing thin and I’m not sure he trusts Griff anymore.

3.) 22 Jan 2019 01:07:02
In pre season the tactic with moussa and Eddie looked very dangerous.

4.) 22 Jan 2019 09:38:45
Get the lad on pre contract let him come in for free in the summer he will do a job for us no problem of that.

5.) 21 Jan 2019 22:49:56
So they want somebody to pay £4M for a guy who's out of contract in the summer but also loan him back until then? Aye fair enough Ed that is bonkers! I hadn't heard that price.

{Ed007's Note - That's the price they're telling teams down south, Kev and £4 million down there is peanuts.}

6.) 22 Jan 2019 22:02:31
Buying Morgan and loaning him back didn't work out to well with Morgan .
We haven't the money to throw away on new players and loaning them out .

Donjim Celtic were also paying his wages when he made himself unavailable for selection in the CL qualifiers against Athens. An unforgivable act imo. Not doubting he has played well this season but for me he should never have been given the opportunity after what he did.

Sorry Bob the cat I’m afraid I don’t have details of his medical history. Sincere apologies. Like I say that site was ridiculed on a previous thread for talking absolute nonsense mentioning either Tierney or Brown suffered a double leg break this season. Ed has stated that McCarthy is no more injury prone than anyone else in our squad.

I understand Bhoys some of you have reservations about McCarthys fitness problems but if he stays fit what a quality player we would have on our hands. IMO he would be an ideal replacement for Broony has similar qualities and may even be an upgrade on him. Anyway we don’t even know if Celtic have a genuine interest in McCarthy.

With regards to our set pieces. In my opinion out of 10 deliveries 8 or 9 of them hit the first defender. The 1 or 2 deliveries that are decent, there is no desire from any of our players to get on the end of them. In years gone by we’ve had players who would kick, punch and bite to beat the opposition to get on the end of a cross.

I’m with you COYBIG imo Griff is our number 1 striker. I just think Rodgers trust in him may have gone and with all the strikers we now have maybe BR is looking to the future. I hope I’m wrong and would love to see a fit and healthy (both physically and mentally) Griff leading the line for us again.

Ice Man

{Ed007's Note - I think a fit Edouard will be first choice, for some reason Rodgers since the day he came in has always had his doubts over LG when he dismissed his 40 goal scoring record from the previous season.}

Click To View This Thread

18 Feb 2019 11:48:43
On that note Ed what do you think the future holds for Griff at Celtic. As you know from over the years I’ve been a huge Griffiths fan but I can’t help but think his days at Celtic may be numbered. I know he has a long term contract but with the arrival of Bayo and Brendan talking about the possibility of extending Weahs loan and I also believe we will try and keep Burke in some capacity I can’t see where Griff will fit in.

Ice Man

{Ed007's Note - I think LG still has a future at Celtic but barring injuries it will be on the bench and getting the odd start here and there. The only place LG could get the same money is in England and unless he's had a major change of heart he doesn't want to go back down there and there's no way Hibs or Aberdeen could even afford to pay the kind of fee Celtic would be looking for let alone pay his wages.
Bayo's a project and what happens if Weah and Burke both do return to their parent clubs? LG is a far better striker than Burke is so even if he does stay a fully fit and focused LG should start before him up front.
Maybe Rodgers is planning to use 2 up front like we seen with Dembele/Edouard where we'll need 4 maybe 5 players for those positions.}
