Young left back, Magnus Mackenzie, has left Celtic permanently for Queens Park.

All the best young man and look forward to following your progress.

This has probably done the rounds but would de Gea be a realistic option? He's on a free and keeping fit with a lower league club. Big glory nights in Europe would probably interest him.

Stengo1888

1.) 06 Jun 2024 13:39:31
He also won the golden glove in his last full season. De Gea would be a massive step up from 95% of the names being linked to us. He’s a top class goal keeper. Every single goal keeper in world football makes howlers. Alllison, Neur, Ederson, Courtois, Donnarumma, Van Der Sar, Boruc, Forster, Cech. These guys made and still make multiple howlers every season. It happens as a goal keeper.

Dea is still very much a world class shot stopper and his ability to play out with his feet probably being the weakest part of his game but is still strong. He was best goal keeper in prem for years and you don’t just lose that. Hart was in a similar position to him before he signed and look how that turned out. De Gea also saves penalties so there’s that.

Absolute crazy to not want him to sign. He won’t sign because of the financials involved and it was literally just Peter Grant saying he’d like to see him come but still, he’d be massive for us.

2.) 06 Jun 2024 19:55:47
Video on YouTube De Gea mega howlers.

3.) 08 Jun 2024 20:32:31
Every GK makes howlers from time to time.

De Gea could pkay in Scotland in his sleep IMO, the issue would be his wages.

He'd need to take a massive drop, even with incentives, to play for us.

☘️ ? ☘️.

Reading that Adam Idah is returning back to Norwich. Norwich want to assess him for next year. Also Sydney van Hooydonk is leaving the Canaries.

Stengo1888

{Ed007's Note - All loan players return to their club unless there's an option to buy mate, players registration automatically revert to their parent club.}

1.) 21 May 2024 15:04:51
I hope we don't even think of bringing in Van Hooydonk name is nothing when it comes to new signings. We need class not names.

20 May 2024 17:17:33
Reading that Rocco Vata and Daniel Kelly have both been offered four year deals. Would be good to see them accept as they are both extremely talented players.

Stengo1888

1.) 20 May 2024 18:29:41
Both have been offered improved and final offers by Celtic, after rejecting previous offer/ offers.

2.) 20 May 2024 19:45:39
I don’t know about Daniel Kelly, but R Vata has travelled the length and breadth of Europe looking for a club, but none interested enough to make a worthwhile offer.

3.) 20 May 2024 20:08:50
Yes the rocco vata one seems strange. Seems he feels he is better than the contract offered but seems to have struggled for suitors. I think this has cost him game time as if hed signed he would have had much more game time.
Definitely seems there might be an attitude problem there.

4.) 21 May 2024 13:29:48
It seems that young Vata has had his head turned by those advising him.

He won't be the first or the last.

☘️ ? ☘️.

5.) 21 May 2024 17:03:07
His father apparently has a very high opinion of his son’s ability.

6.) 23 May 2024 10:48:15
Aye. Ma da thought I could play football and I was total pish.

7.) 26 May 2024 09:05:57
IMO too many of the youngsters coming through think themselves established players after only a handful of games and try and hold the club to ransom!
Rocco Vata, Daniel Kelly and Ben Summers to name but a few are all good players with plenty of potential and should they hang around will gain more experience and game time.
The grass isn’t always greener and these lads representatives should insure they look deeply into that and advise accordingly.

Young Mackenzie Carse is on his way to a loan move with Queens Park.

Wishing the bhoy well as he's a cracking player and should be back a better and harder player. Definitely one for the future if he takes his chance.

2.) 27 Jun 2024 20:00:42
Landry always gave his all on the park. Very sad news indeed.

3.) 27 Jun 2024 23:17:46
He had a great work ethic and tried his best in what was a very difficult season.
RIP Landry.

If the Board were given the final list of goalkeeping recommendations and it consisted of:

Kelleher £15m
Loris Karius £12m
Peter Vindahl Jensen £8m
Zion Suzuki £8m
PJ Morrison - Alloa £250,000

Who do you think they would approach first?

Stengo1888

1.) 16 Jun 2024 02:57:51
Karius. He's available for nothing so they'd save 12m.

2.) 16 Jun 2024 05:39:38
Pj Morrison, for certain. ?.

3.) 16 Jun 2024 08:54:11
Joe Hart on a free.

4.) 16 Jun 2024 10:58:41
Feck no karius.

5.) 16 Jun 2024 13:25:07
Kellagher as they will work the list from who they rate the best and work the way down list . That is how Celtic have been so successful with 12/ 13 SPL titles and 5 trebles, a period of complete domination.
However I don’t think they will be starting at £15m for Kellagher as Liverpool will accept less .
Of course if u believe the SMSM then you will believe that Celtic start with the worse bottom of list goalkeeper and stop with him and tell us they tried but couldn’t get anyone in . The great goalies that we have signed in recent years such as Boruc, Forrester, Gordon and Hart all came to Celtic purely by luck . I hope we are as lucky this summer.

Seeing MoN in the media a bit more it would be good to find out how he managed to entice the Board to part with the money they spent on most of the 2003 squad. Even compared to where we are just now some heavy, heavy money was spent.

Stengo1888

1.) 13 May 2024 19:57:31
I seem to remember we finished the previous season to MON's arrival 21 points behind Oldco and he would have had a very strong case. Another factor may have been that Lawell wasn't CEO until 2003?

2.) 13 May 2024 20:35:03
Dermot Desmond employed P L to undo the harm that M O ‘ N did to Celtic shorty and medium term finances . M O’N spent a comparable amount to what Rangers had spent in the three yrs previously bu Rangers went off on a massive spending spree backed by EBT’s whilst Celtic had to cut back their spending.

Some list not many on that though that would be invited to events! Even like who? And through my time. It's like Varga, Balde, Lennon as I skimmed? I'm fickle.

5.) 14 May 2024 00:10:42
Roughly £6million a season and pl was brought in to stop that? . no wonder we've become outside of spl also rans who can't compete in the third tier of European tournament.

{Ed007's Note - Celtic took out a long term loan to fund MON, a loan we only paid off 12/18 months ago, there were players back then getting paid more than some of our current Star players. One of MONs final acts as manager was sanctioning a £30k + a week deal for Balde even though there were signs he was on the decline. After MON left both WGS and Peter Lawwell accused Balde of being not interested in training/playing and only after the money, Balde played 33 times under WGS in his first season and played 14 times over the
final 3 years of his mega deal.
Celtic were a financial mess under MON, that's just cold hard facts.:

6.) 14 May 2024 07:50:03
Cheers Pedro free duds aplenty in that lot.

7.) 14 May 2024 09:29:55
My memory was Lawell treated Balde appallingly simply because he refused a transfer when he wanted him off the wage bill. Balde refused ( quite rightly ) because the new terms were about 6k per week and no settlement. Strachan was then ordered to send Balde to train with the kids. Strachan’s remit was to reduce the playing wage bill while Lawell’s salary and bonus’s went up, with the usual consequences, remember the Neuchatel Xamax humping?
To be fair, Strachan worked wonders with restraints he had to work with.

8.) 14 May 2024 11:23:16
Gordon Strachan did a brilliant job after O’Neill.

Gordon had 2 main goals in his 1st season.
To obviously win the league and to bring down the huge average age of the 1st team squad.

Strachan went on to have a brilliant record as the Celtic Manager and I reckon his squad of players is easily the fittest team I’ve seen at Celtic.

Strachan still received criticism because our fans wanted more entertainment, but his results were good.

9.) 14 May 2024 12:14:57
Yes, GS was very good for us. An example of how it doesn't have to be a Celtic man at the helm. Lots of respect for him.

10.) 14 May 2024 13:15:40
Everything often has a need and a use. We needed the MO'N method when we got him because Rangers and their cheating and at that time Rangers were planning their EBTs and thought they were so superior. Murray was good at telling the very attentive SMSM his plans to make Rangers a worldwide star club. Maybe if it wasn’t for O’Neil, Murray wouldn’t have made Rangers the worldwide laughingstock.

Martin brought the belief back amongst fans and players. The club were no longer looking up at Rangers. He destroyed Dick Advocaat and although he grossly overspent, maybe we needed that money boast. But fair play to WGS he was a hero, despite what Rangers continued to spend, he kept Celtic more than competitive.

Media tried to cause division between him and fans, but WGS kept up the good work and destroyed them with his one liners. Since MO'N money has never been spent so freely, but Celtic have always sat at the top of the top table.

11.) 15 May 2024 00:20:46
Despite PL big and greatly overpaid salary, it still wouldn’t have paid a decent salary for a decent player . We could have saved up to £600K per year by paying PL a modest salary . That amounts to about £1200 per week which doesn’t entice a ny better than an average player to us.

12 May 2024 18:15:48
Is spending a bit more for the next level of player going to bring success? In Europe?
Pretty much we've been fishing about in the sub £5m pool but increasing that to between 5m and 9m on a regular basis, will that guarantee us better success than we've been having?

Stengo1888

1.) 12 May 2024 18:35:42
Stengo,

although the transfer fee doesn't always guarantee success, we should be looking at paying larger fees for players who are already pkaying at a better level than those in our first team squad.

Add in some younger players, from our youth set up / signed from other teams in Scotland, we should be better placed to compete on the European stage.

The 'projects' at £2M+ or so that we've been signing by the barrow load over recent seasons needs to stop - our first team squad is in excess of 40 players.

2.) 12 May 2024 18:54:48
I said to my son 3 years ago,
The Scottish Champions will have at least 3 CL groups stage football, for the next 3 seasons.

It’s incredible that Celtic have managed to win all 3 titles and secure all that CL money which should take Celtic to a higher level going forward.

Celtic chose not to spend that money last season but it wasn’t a disaster because we didn’t waste much on transfers and wages.

Last seasons CL cash has still to appear in our June 2024 accounts and that will take Celtic to over £100 million in the bank and that’s not counting the extra cash we will generate in next season’s new and lucrative CL format.

Basically we still have to announce money from another 2 CL campaigns.
( last season’s and next seasons )

Celtic will have nearly £150 million to play with between now and when when we get our CL cash next year.

Celtic will now be miles and miles ahead of our rivals.

What makes it funny is -
It has been Sevco that has handed Celtic those 3 CL group campaigns because of their impressive recent European record.

Thank You Agent Sevco ???.

3.) 12 May 2024 18:59:57
Spending on the right player at the right time at the right price is what we should be getting right more often . our recruitment is and has been shocking for years oneills time wih Sutton Lennon hartson etc was probably our only real good recruitment in the last two decades . the amount wasted on guys who shouldn't have been near Celtic is frightening ally that to cl money wasted by under / poor investment. our whole structure in that department leaves a lot to be desired.

4.) 12 May 2024 19:49:13
Thank you New Rangers. Points make cash and lots of it ??.

5.) 12 May 2024 20:25:56
No! We spent £7m on Jullien and £1.5m on O'Reilly. It's nothing to do with money paid it's about having decent scouts who can spot the difference between a player and a coo!

6.) 13 May 2024 00:35:07
My son in law tells me we are currently spending £20m on development of Barrowfield and other improvements. i think we are about 10 yrs too late with this current round of spending, as it would probably need the same expenditure to bring our training complexes up to date and have them attractive to players we want to sign, and to encourage those we have signed to stay longer.

7.) 13 May 2024 12:33:54
O ‘Neil’s spending levels were not sustainable and WGS and RD suffered as Celtic had to cut down their players expenses . Most if not all MO’N spending were on players of an age and length of contract, left them with no residue value . The Celtic Board at that time were afraid that Rangers would get so far ahead that Celtic had to take immediate action and break their own set rules that were meant to prevent Financial trouble in the future .
Although Rangers EBT yrs started in 2001, they had been cheating in some form financially for about 10:yrs, I wonder when the Celtic Board became aware about it.

There are two ways to go about this.

1. Speculate To Accumulate.

Go out and buy the players we need - spend a bit of money and get the players in. Offset the cost by selling/ loaning fringe players to get them off the wage bill. Net spend could end up positive.

2. The Risk Averse Method.

Sell/ Loan out the fringe players to accumulate a figure and then buy players within the amount raised. Net spend could end up negative or break even.

Guess what one looks like the Celtic method?

Is it the case that we offload a good number of players to free up their wages - and these wages will go towards paying for 3 or 4 players to come in and we'll still have £72m in the bank?

Phil, I'd have Welsh as RB as he's played there a lot in the Development Squd and hasn't looked out of place and could easily fit into the RCB if going to a 3. I'd also have Christie instead of Moi as without Brown and Ntcham the team would be more fluent and I think he's thrive in that setting. Agree with you about Bain. Another option would be to have Klimala instead of Frimpong as Klimala has more of an attacking threat and likes the RHS, but that may leave that side a bit weak.

So,

Bain

Welsh
Duffy
Ajer
Laxalt

Klimala
Soro
McGregor
Christie

Ajeti
Edouard.

Kevbhoy - I totally agree. It's not my type of team but when you look at the top teams by league placings in Scotland and England and pick the Scots who they have to form a team then that's pretty much the best there is.
I left Gilmour, Adams and Christie out as they are not in those "top" teams but to show we have no chance of progressing based on the criteria I had set.

OK, we were p1sh against the Germans and hope we show up better against the Swiss.
Something puzzling me is the makeup of the squad - unless it's Braveheart or warrior material we're still cannon fodder. Why doesn't any Scottish manager pick players from the top teams from Scotland and England based on league standings?
So, 4-4-2 would be

Clark

Ralston
Souttar
Tierney
Taylor

Forrest
McTominay
McGregor
Robertson

Wright
Shankland

I know we'll miss out on McGinn, Gunn, Adams, Hendry and Christie but at least the team above will be based on merit and league placings. The team coudn't be any worse than what we saw on Friday.
