At the end of the Portugal game, Danny Murphy said the first game ( for the big boys in the tournament) is the hardest. Really? What does Germany think of that? ?.

OK, we were p1sh against the Germans and hope we show up better against the Swiss.
Something puzzling me is the makeup of the squad - unless it's Braveheart or warrior material we're still cannon fodder. Why doesn't any Scottish manager pick players from the top teams from Scotland and England based on league standings?
So, 4-4-2 would be

Clark

Ralston
Souttar
Tierney
Taylor

Forrest
McTominay
McGregor
Robertson

Wright
Shankland

I know we'll miss out on McGinn, Gunn, Adams, Hendry and Christie but at least the team above will be based on merit and league placings. The team coudn't be any worse than what we saw on Friday.

2.) 19 Jun 2024 00:38:46
Souttar isn’t in the squad and who is Wright?

3.) 19 Jun 2024 07:04:43
Who is Wright?

4.) 19 Jun 2024 08:08:37
After reading that team it’s certainly not Stengo who is right.

5.) 19 Jun 2024 08:33:29
Scott Wright - Sevco.

6.) 19 Jun 2024 10:45:17
The same Murphy that said he didntvsee the point putting a sub on with 3 mins to go doh.

7.) 19 Jun 2024 10:50:15
That team's a shocker Stengo.

8.) 19 Jun 2024 11:26:55
That's a terrible team Stengo.
If he is going to play his usual formation, I would play Forrest as a RWB and bring Gilmour in for Christie.
At least Gilmour can keep a hold of the ball.
I would play Adams and bring Shankland on with 30mins to go if we need to win the game.
At least we will know the damage from the Germany game before kickoff where I'm hoping Germany put another 5 past Hungary.

9.) 19 Jun 2024 12:32:39
Kevbhoy - I totally agree. It's not my type of team but when you look at the top teams by league placings in Scotland and England and pick the Scots who they have to form a team then that's pretty much the best there is.
I left Gilmour, Adams and Christie out as they are not in those "top" teams but to show we have no chance of progressing based on the criteria I had set.

10.) 19 Jun 2024 12:34:15
Stengo, wtf, you've missed out Connor Barron ??.

11.) 19 Jun 2024 16:42:31
I’m not sure if Wright is even in the squad, I’d mortgage my house he isn’t .

12.) 20 Jun 2024 17:22:10
Mcginn would be in ahead of mctominay going by league positions stengo.

18 Jun 2024 20:32:48
A wee rant. Wherever I watch football, Scotland, down south or even the Euro games, the amount of time a promising situation peters out to nothing coz the player in possession only uses 1 foot frustrates me. Yeah, I get how players are allocated positions to play given their favoured foot but the ball isn't going to come to you the way you want all the time. Why can't coaches, domestic or international, get players to practice with their weaker foot? It's not rocket science.

9iar

1.) 18 Jun 2024 23:32:07
Ryan Porteous can certainly use both feet.

2.) 19 Jun 2024 02:26:44
Lukaku is a prime example, how pro players are allowed to be so one footed is beyond me. They should be practicing in training to be equally as good with both feet.

3.) 19 Jun 2024 09:55:44
The young boy lamal at spain is also very 1 footed.

4.) 19 Jun 2024 19:29:43
Most top footballers are blessed one good foot . Coaches who are trying to develop these good footballers are not going to risk his top projects by upsettIng his way of setting himself up to receive a ball to partially improve his weaker foot . There are only a very small number of people who are ambidextrous, many of these have ambidextrous hands and feet and they can be coached to use either equally well.

{Ed007's Note - Kids should be learning to control the ball with both feet before they have ever meet a footballing coach. You wouldn't tell a kid who wants to box he only needs to use one arm because he can't punch with his left.}

17 Jun 2024 18:22:32
Acsom saying we could raise 30 mill through the imminent sales of the players BR doesn't fancy (about half a dozen) plus sell on clauses for Frimpong, Gaukamalis (apols for not getting his name right) . And that without selling MOR. It all sounded plausible but what are your thoughts Bhoys?

9iar

1.) 17 Jun 2024 19:47:22
the fact 6m for mikey and 4m for oh and that's just 2 of them. not sure where the rest is coming from without mor getting thrown in.

2.) 17 Jun 2024 21:01:49
MJ £6M
OH £4M
Frimpong sell in £7M
GG sell on £1M
Hacksaw £2M
Largerbielke £3M
Nawroki £4M
Abada £10M
Total £37M.

{Ed007's Note - We won't get £1 million from the Giakoumakis clause, it'll be nearer the £350k mark.}

3.) 18 Jun 2024 17:34:40
That will be half a dozen of the new Ibrox starlets.

11 Jun 2024 14:55:23
Question for all, going as far back as you're able, what are your most memorable games against Rangers, pre or post their Administration and the reason why?
1980 cup final for me for nail biting tension and the elation at the end.

I also think of the 2 victories within 10 days of each other at Paradise towards the end of 2008 season that changed what looked like a shoo in for them to win the league into us winning it. A few lows obviously but loads of great memories. I could go on but will stop there.

9iar

1.) 11 Jun 2024 15:59:48
Any Victory against them Rangers/ Sevco pleases me. if I were to pick two it would be the 1957 League Cup 7-1, the reason being, as an 8 year old boy a victory against them was rarer than hens teeth and the second was the 1966 New Years game at Celtic Park 5-1,they scored in the first minute and five second half goals was incredible on frost hardened surface and it was the start of our nine in a row. There are many more memorable victories against either of the two clubs, too many to mention but those two bring happy memories for me.

2.) 11 Jun 2024 16:09:52
10 men won the league.

3.) 11 Jun 2024 17:08:20
The 6-2 game and chip from Henrik over klos. The 3-0 with hoopers sliding in to score. The atmosphere was brilliant, remember feeling the stand rocking and noticed the bid speakers from the stadium roof moving from side to side.

4.) 11 Jun 2024 18:09:46
Good question 9iar,

The first game I remember watching was the 1980 Scottish Cup Final on TV.
I was at my first Celtic match only a couple of months earlier but I only remembered the score.

Winning the New Year match in our Centenary season was special, especially the McStay pass for the first goal.
Also winning another New Year game 10 years later which helped stop the 10.
The Lambert goal was incredible.

My biggest victory against Sevco was when CCV scored a comeback winner at Ibrox.
That victory was absolutely massive and Sevco still haven’t recovered.

Before that match,
I mentioned to my Son that Celtic will again dominate for many years, if we secured a victory.
That’s exactly how it’s playing out ?.

5.) 11 Jun 2024 18:35:05
As an aside, when was the last time I heard the whole place rockin' to the Soldiers song? I'll defer to the guys who go to the games.

6.) 11 Jun 2024 18:51:11
The best I can remember signing the Soldiers Song, was when Celtic beat Rangers 2 Sundays in a row.
( 2-0 and 3-0 )

7.) 11 Jun 2024 19:57:33
2 of my personal favourites were the 2-0 game at new year, when Lambert and burley scored and we stopped 10 in a row.

The other being the 3-0 game at Celtic Park just before their club died. ?.

8.) 11 Jun 2024 20:43:13
What about Lubo ‘s first goal against them . Was it Keevins that said the miserable Celtic Board could have signed John Spencer for £500,000 and instead signed Dr Joe friend the unknown Lubo for £300,000.

9.) 12 Jun 2024 02:34:57
Cracking memories Oldkilly you must've seen some great victories in your time! For me the first 10 mins of the 6-2 game was just fairytale stuff.

10.) 12 Jun 2024 08:44:57
I was still at school, fourth year when I was privileged to be at the 4.2 game, 10 men won the league. Been to plenty of great wins. Hampden riot game, Charlie’s chip at Ibrox. But, the 4.2 game was literally stuff of legends. Still got a sore neck after being lifted and thrown about by a massive guy who crushed several vertebrate. Worth it though.

11.) 12 Jun 2024 10:55:37
Jorge Caddetes first goal against Aberdeen in the 5_0 game. I thought the roof was blown off by the noise.

Loved Larssons chip as well.

12.) 12 Jun 2024 13:37:23
4-2, 10 men … atmosphere in the jungle that night was off the scale …. They only needed to draw to win the league that night.
BBC then lost (destroyed) the recording of the game … some things never change ?.

13.) 12 Jun 2024 14:32:50
I could go back a few years but in recent times I have to say the 3-0 game in Ange's first season at Parkhead.
It was that game I finally knew we had something going on.

14.) 12 Jun 2024 14:43:26
Never really remember the games the goals however….

Larsson in the 6-2 game.
Nakamura’s 30 yard swerve driver
Suttons late late chip.
Probably my top 3.

15.) 13 Jun 2024 00:00:40
Davidb66 did the noise not blow the airwaves on the radio?

11 Jun 2024 13:48:13
Given the topsy turvy season just passed when any game was a potential banana skin, I'm enjoying the break of not worrying each week how Celtic will fare. Yes we weren't good a lot of the time and yes, an important close season of incomings and outgoings await BUT our points total (93 I think) still warrants of big Well done to BR and the players. I hope they enjoy their well earned hols, as I do for you Ed ?. Cheers again for all you do, especially my sometimes crappy posts.

9iar

{Ed007's Note - No worries mate.}

1.) 11 Jun 2024 18:16:03
When Celtic have a good season, I always want the summer to drag in.

I enjoy experiencing that feel good factor without any pressure.
I also want our rivals to experience maximum torture throughout the summer.

2.) 11 Jun 2024 20:07:39
Next season FC win pre season every year. Stars, future Real Madrid players, future Premiership players.

Agreed Buzz. I'm normally against previous players returning and that includes Ajer (we can debate how Lenny managed them during the COVID season but was he not one of a few players who stopped playing that year) ? But I'd make an exception for Jota. I guess the money he is on now would make that unrealistic.

I'm not on FB. Is there a Just Giving page I can donate to?
3000 Push Ups blows my mind. I aim for 40 each morning but only make 36 when my arms are like quivering jelly ??.

Well done Gerry.

I heard they're installing electric shock sensors every time they sing an anti catholic anthem. I could say something but I'll refrain ?.

If we had a Board we trust, I'm all for seeing how things play out but.
The only saving grace for me to cut them slack is I trust BR. I see where folks are coming from.
Looking at the bigger picture, there's not much happening anywhere TBF. Sit tight till the Euros are over and see what ripple effect happens when activity in the bigger picture starts.
All that said, Miovski from the sheep would be a start.

Cheers Ed, top man. Read the article. Yeah, that's my recollection of Davie Cooper. Slightly over hyped in the context of his contribution to Rangers in his time there.
