The best way to check if these rumours have any substance is to check the odds.
Bookies have people who's job it is to keep them as informed as is possible (for obvious reasons) and they will find out well b4 we hear of any rumour.
With them still accepting bets at odds bigger then when Benitez was 1/9 (now 66-1) then I'd take it with a pinch of salt.
1/4 for me is just rumour.

Pod the bookies will pay out on Kennedy if he manages 10 games that’s why the odds aren’t much shorter on Howe.
John Kennedy at 4/ 1 is the value bet as all he has to do is get through this round of the cup and see out the season.

Vin the odds are for next permanent manager and with Kennedy being caretaker manager I doubt they would pay out with the scenario you're saying.
If the unthinkable happens and Kennedy gets the job full-time I don't think me betting him at 4-1 would make me feel much sense of happiness so I'll not be investing.

I've just checked and it is exactly as you say.
"Caretaker and interim managers completing at least 10 competitive games will be deemed the permanent manager'
That'll explain why Kennedy is so short in the betting.
