Ed- I'm hearing a rumour tonight that Celtic are showing an interest in Jacob Butterfield Norwich city player & England under 21, apparently it would be a season long loan deal, just wondering if you've heard this yourself?

IanL

1.) Why would we when we. Just loaned young Jackson Irvine out who has great potential

2.) Have you heard anything regarding this Ed? The boy is on the bench today for Norwich. Ian L {Ed007's Note - I've not heard anything Ian but it would seem a bit of a pointless move.}

Alright Ed, just wondering if you've heard how the Balde negotiations are progressing? Thought we may have had an announcement today. Any inside info on the big fella? I take it he's a John Park special. {Ed007's Note - As far as I know the medical take part this afternoon, so it will be an evening of shmoozing tonight and probably some form of announcement tomorrow unless there are any hinderance.}

IanL

1.) I've heard there is a problem with personal terms, that's what's holding things up. Could of been told mince, but when its celtic that's involved there is always a chance of it being true. Also think russell would of been a better fit. And Ed I also heard that stokes might not be getting the new contract due to his off-field problems. is this true?

S {Ed007's Note - At a guess I would pick the agent' fees will be the hold up, they always seem to be theses days.}

2.) Especially when it's 10% to you 20% to him then the rest going to his agent and his uncle Caito, if Celtic get a sniff of any wrong doings they will be out of there in a heartbeat. Hope the deal goes through without any hitches as I'm looking forward to seeing this young man in action. Ian L

3.) I'm feeling a bit uneasy about this transfer, TBH. The player and his agent have clearly used Celtic's interest to try to drum up a bid from the EPL, to no avail. I hope Celtic haven't been conned into upping the transfer fees and personal terms because of a non-existent bid from Palace. Hopefully, all will be well and we'll get a younger, cheaper Didier Drogba but I have a sneaky suspicion we'll end up with the Portuguese Brian Deane.

I know Hooper & Wanyama are probably offski in the summer, however out of the two I would probably say we've got a better chance of keeping hold of Hooper. If we did sign him up for another couple of years I would take my hat of to the Celtic board as I think that would be better than any signing we would make in the transfer window. Hooper's goals for Celtic over the last 3 years have been so important to our success. My fear is if he does go the chances are we won't sign anyone who can fill his boots. I would hate to see us signing another Venagoor of Hesselink or Fourtune. Fair enough Hooper has not been at his best over the last few months, let's tally up his goals at the end of the season, as that's what he gets paid for. Neil Lennon knows how important Gary Hooper is to Celtic and I agree with the manager 100% always have done.

IanL

1.) Big Jan was class!

2.) Hesselink was a good player he scored some very important goals and he always seemed to do something in the big games. he ain't no larsson but he was not a flop

3.) Hooper hasn't been at his best, that is true. But he is still twice the player Stokes is.

Joeshmo1888

4.) Hooper WILL go and JONNY RUSSELL is yer man! SIMPLES! Everyone's a winner!

5.) I hope hooper stays as he garuntees us goals but if he does go i'd like to see us move for Adam la fondre or Kevin Doyle

Bman

6.) JVH did not score enough goals for me, the point I was making is that we've not had an all round striker like Hooper for a long time. Ian L

7.) I like johnny russell. But to say he's the man to replace hooper is utter nonsense, itd be a step back,. ,. kbarry

8.) Hooper is certain to go with his contract up next year, Wanyama I think will stay for 1 more season. I can see us moving for a striker not many of us will have heard of to replace Hooper.

Garry

9.) With all due respect - how the F**£ can you possibly compare Big Jan and Hooper?!
JVH was a target man. He was a F*^£ing good one at that! He played alongside McDonald - who is a more similar type to Hooper - so you could possibly draw comparison there.
For some reason (Motherwell 2 goals?) McDonald seems to divide opinion - I loved the 2 of them as a partnership and thought we did miss wee Skippy when he left - great wee player and signing IMO.
Anyway I digress, back to Hooper. If you asked me at the start of the season I would have hated to see Hooper go. There are a lot of factors to take into consideration but honestly, I don't think now, that he would be that big a loss.
He is a good player and will perhaps go onto good things.
But, if he cannot commit to the club by saying 'I'm staying and signing' - then cheerio. Been down this road before with better players than Hooper.
And anyway - a new centre-forward brings a new dynamic to the team and more interest for the fans.
But if he says he wants to stay then fine. Its actually not that big a deal for me - its if our midfield losses a few and also wee Mathews - for me he would be a huge loss. He really is turning into a great player - all the focus is on the bigger 'names' leaving.

10.) I have heard a rumour that Vic is going to stay for another year unless silly money in excess of 17mil is offered. I have also heard Hooper is going to sign an extention to his contract. But the player we will lose is Sammi

11.) I have also heard big vic wants to stay another season and will sign an improved contract to get us the big transfer fee after next season. I just hope that turns out to be the case. maccabhoy

12.) Kbt - how can you compare Jvh and Hooper. I'll try and break it down for you my man. They are both strikers, both paid to score goals at the end of the day. Jvh didn't score enough goals for me for 3.8m we paid for him, John Hartson was a target man as was Chris Surton, big Hesselink couldn't lace any of their boots. Gary Hooper is more than just a poacher he is an all round striker, in the next few years in my opinion we will be calling little scat mcdanild from Australia a poor mans Gary Hooper. Ian L

Ed - Just wondering if Scott Brown has a chance of playing in the cup final this year? Even more so that Wanyama is suspended. Kayal suspension is irrelevant. {Ed007's Note - No Ian, even if Brown is anywhere near fit he wouldn't be risked.}

IanL

1.) I suppose with the pre-season not to far away and European qualifiers just around the corner that makes sense.

2.) How is kayals suspension irrellevant?

mk bhoy

3.) Hey MK - I think the OP believs that Kayal isn't worth a mention as a valued player in midfield. Unfortunately I would agree with him on that. I have zero confidence in him. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

Ontario Bhoy

4.) OP asking the same question as mk bhoy?. Would rather have him in team before Forrest and in midfield before Charlie
Tambhoy

5.) I don't think he brings anything to the team. Since he signed his new bumper contract he's not kicked a ball for us. I would most definitely move him on in the summer if we get the chance.

6.) Kayal has been overlooked for most of the season plus he's been injured. he hasn't had a run of games for over a year now. if he hadnt been booked i'd be glad to have him in midfield. he's not a bad player just needs games and a run of them

Lee Griffiths or Johnny Russell as Hooper's replacement? Ian L

IanL

1.) If a had 2 buy 1 it would be russell griffiths is a good goal scorer but he comes with far 2 much baggage and has a stinkin attitude at times

GunnieBhoy

2.) My thoughts exactly, if Griffiths can score 25 goals at Hibs ( on loan ). How many could he get with us.

Cprs1 HH

3.) Don't care about Griffith's attitude, as long as he was doing the business, sure Lenny and the backroom staff would sort him out
Tambhoy

4.) I think russell is a more versatile striker but if we sign either I hope this is not the only striker we buy,,,,, deep river bhoy

5.) Griffiths without a doubt! Should be aiming higher but doubt our board ill spend half decent money. Still looking for that target man as well.

The Raff

6.) Tambhoy how can ye say u don't care about his attitude haha he's getting done for suppoedly shopilfting out tesco is that the type of guy your wantin us 2 sign? wer is russell is never in any bother can play more positions wil score just as many goals as griffiths and is a die hard celtic fan

GunnieBhoy

7.) Griffiths or Russell, BOTH. jimbhoy

8.) Gunniebhoy the word in YOUR post say's it all mate, SUPPOSEDLY, innocent until proven guilty
Tambhoy

9.) Johnny Russell all day long.

Bigbadjohn

10.) The last time Russell played against Rangers he really caught my eye, best game I've probably seen him play. Griffiths definitely has something about him, if I'm honest I like the fact he's got a bit of an attitude/swagger about him. We don't know how Russell is going to be after his injury. If I was put on the spot both players fit. Johnny Bhoy Russell. IanL

11.) Thats fair enough tambhoy but u sayin u don't care about a guys attitude is a bit weird griffiths is constantly in bother am just sayin imo ad rather have russel who is a celtic fan and would play for the shirt but your oppinion is your oppinion mate all entitled 2 em no right or wrong answer HH

GunnieBhoy

12.) Cheer's gunniebhoy all entitled to our opinion, as long as you don't try and kid on your not what you are, eh raff
Tambhoy

13.) Johnny Russell for sure. wouldn't touch Griffiths with a barge pole. A Grade A clown!

Ronny has to go, disaster from start to finish, I know the reality will probably be JC taking over until the end of the season (PL dream has come true) RD has to go anyone who thinks anything else is delusional.

IanL

1.) Hi Ian, agreed if PL says "Chapter 1 ha now gone for RD" how many more is he going to get and he can take JC with him as far as I am concerned

I answered you from earlier point btw!

Were do we start. team selection Ambrose at right back? Lustig & van Dijk centre half? Biggest game of the season. I that makes sense Ronny. NOT! That was a team selection from an inexperienced, under qualified manager, Commons on the bench.? He might not be everyone's cup of tea but he's got an eye for goal and can pick out a pass. Kayal in the team. That guy was finished 2 years ago, as for Berget express he's a poor mans Georgios Samaras. As I'm typing this I still can't believe we are out of champions league.

IanL

1.) IanL

I am amazed that you put out 6 lines of retrospective wisdom without mentioned big Chuck Mulgrew …he'll be delighted by that.

when your stand-in captain is below average you know you're in for a long cold winter

2.) I agree with a lot of what you say regarding the team selection but the biggest point for me is the continuous selection of Charlie Mulgrew in midfield. What does it say for the other midfield players in the squad when a second rate left back gets a game in the midfield in front of you. The other big surprise for me was Denyer not playing. I would have thought Lustig would have played RB and Jason in the middle with VVD. Its going to be a long season and I don't think many will fork out their hard earned for the Europa League!

3.) Agree, he's went down hill big time.

4.) Don't think he (Mulgrew) was ever up the hill. A more over rated player than I have ever seen. Too slow and an ego the size of the planet!

{Ed007's Note - You've obviously forgot about James Forrest.}

5.) Agreed ED but as he's never on the pitch I thought I'd spare him.

{Ed007's Note - That's a good point.}

25 Aug 2014 23:03:11
Alright Ed, what type of striker is Scepovic is he the goal scoring target man we all crave? What is the transfer fee?

IanL

{Ed007's Note - Have a gander and see for yourself what he's like. Sporting Gijon were asking for 4 million Euros (£3.2m) but it will be less than that, more around 3 million Euros (£2.4m).

1.) 26 Aug 2014 04:16:32
If our midfield can give him service like he got in that clip he will be a goal machine. Is the deal going through Ed?

{Ed007's Note - FC Twente made a late bid to hijack the deal but nothing came of it. He is expected to be at tonight's match and will have his medical tomorrow.}

2.) 26 Aug 2014 13:30:42
Kind of a Sutton/Larsson hybrid, the sort of player we've been lacking for quite a while .Would be a great boost if he plays to the kind of standard showing in the clips posted .Match winning potential .Fingers crossed!.

23 Aug 2014 21:03:30
Is it just me or was 10 changes just a bit much today.? I could understand 5-6 changes but 10. Inverness is a hard place to get a result at the best of time without playing second string side, some really poor performances today, some guys just not up to challenge.

IanL

1.) The sad fact is that we could afford to play half a team most weeks and still win the league. RD felt the wrath of the fans after the Legia games so nobody can be surprised that he was willing to sacrifice today's game to make sure the players are well rested and have the best chance of getting the job done on Tuesday

2.) If you look longer term, is it not better giving younger & fringe players experience, and if 1st team got beat today would have done more damage.

3.) Whatever way you look at it I applaud him for having the balls to do it, can't think of many previous managers doing it, leagues a canter and as yogi said on tv every celtic player on the pitch yesterday would b a starter for his team, maybe rd using that team in the diddy cup might be a way for them to get game time

4.) Kevbhoy are you for real mate?

We could rest half a team each week and still win the league?

On what basis do you come to this conclusion?

Over the past couple of years when players have been rested, we have struggled to get results and the standard of play has been really poor as it was again yesterday.

The players on the fringes of our squad are not good enough, along with some of the first team squad it's a really poor celtic team we are witnessing.

I was really excited last year with the friendly victory against Liverpool but none of the standouts from that day have kicked on and that's a real problem.

Maybe Lennon is being vindicated for saying he didn't play them as they were not good enough; they certainly are not impressing when given the chance.

Fisher, Irvine, chalmers and Fraser are the ones who seem the most likely to make it and hopefully we start to see more of them. Fraser looked really good when playing before his injury.

So let's hope we don't play half a team as I think we would struggle to be in the top three which is sad to say but let's not kid ourselves.

5.) My worry is by not playing his team on Saturday, it could cause the players to become over tense and affect their play
Injuries could easily occur in training as during play . I just hope Deila hasn't made a mistake .

11 Aug 2014 16:06:24
Is just me. Why are we signing a player that Neil Lennon identified last year, has RD not got his own transfer targets? I believe he does, but it's clear to see that our managers get told what players they are getting in and also who are leaving.

IanL

{Ed007's Note - Tonev is another Lawwell/Park signing, identifying players wasn't in NL's remit.}

1.) If that's the case Ed then why did Peter Lawell not just give the job to John Park, just as much as a gamble giving it to Ronny Delia. Because we are still miffed why RD got it in the first place, PL sounds like a bit of a dictator so why not just give it to his best mucker (JP) then get John Collins as No2. One big happy dissfunctional family.

{Ed007's Note - Maybe that's the masterplan?}

2.) The players Deila has been identifying were for Norway . We would think we were looking for better .
Deila said he was looking for fast wingmen and Park would have been able to identify Tonev and others.

The whole time Lennon was in charge I and others blamed him for some of the duds we signed . Now we were told he wasn't involved .

3.) Tbh I don't think deila is the manager in the traditional sense more like the head coach with lawwell and park making the signing's

4.) Very strange set up. The chief scout identifies players for the chief executive to look over and the manager doesn't have a say on transfer targets. I'm beginning to think this is a practical joke. Next Peter Lawell will be coming out the closet saying he wants to be a woman and we've to call him Patricia

5.) I just pray that lawwell gets to f**k. If no £ is spent this transfer window, questions must be answered! Sick of hearing this "celtic do their business behind closed doors". its a clever deflective tactic, creating an illusion on celtic fans that club is looking for players they just don't want to reveal when they are actually doing nothing

I know there is still time for us to bring in new players, I've got a bad feeling that once again the clubs ambition and the fans ambition are a million miles apart. I know that the days are gone when we spent £6m on a player 30k a week. We talk about the r@ngers fans getting short changed, in a way we are also getting short changed. Season tickets, new home & away tops. All we want to see is a bit of quality on that park and giving the big guns a run for their money on European nights at celtic park.
