ED, Any word on transfers likely to happen today?

Hail Hail
ChrisBhoy {Ed007's Note - I have not Chris. If there is I would doubt it will be Finnbogason.}

1.) 12 Aug 2013
Why do you doubt it'll be Finny ed?

Quack {Ed007's Note - The time-scale. I have suspected all along that CL football would need to be achieved before any deal for Finnbogason would be completed. The player wants to play in the CL.}

2.) 12 Aug 2013
I suspect you may be right Ed. I get the feeling we won't bring in anyone of real quality until we know if we have CL football to look forward to, and even then we might try to do things with our usual budget style approach. That in itself could be counter-productive because a quality player now could be the difference between us having CL football or settling for the Europa League. A conundrum indeed but past experience suggests Celtic will take a chance and sit tight.

Hail Hail

3.) 12 Aug 2013
Ed - in your opinion, which is valued, do you thnk this deal will happen but just not in the next day or so? {Ed007's Note - Yes.}

4.) 12 Aug 2013
I know there is still time for us to bring in new players, I've got a bad feeling that once again the clubs ambition and the fans ambition are a million miles apart. I know that the days are gone when we spent £6m on a player 30k a week. We talk about the r@ngers fans getting short changed, in a way we are also getting short changed. Season tickets, new home & away tops. All we want to see is a bit of quality on that park and giving the big guns a run for their money on European nights at celtic park.

5.) 12 Aug 2013
Ed what is the situation with Finnboggason? Has there been a bid submitted? Is there talks ongoing or is it just paper talk? Once again the fans are being fleeced!

Ice man {Ed007's Note - There has been two bids, one from CFC and one from Ausburg, both have been rejected.}

6.) 12 Aug 2013
Why not Billy McKay? or is he not good enough for Celtic? seems to know what it is all about and knows where the goals are.

7.) 12 Aug 2013
Don't know why everyone getting worked up now about our spend policy.

Weeks ago I posted about this and was shot down in flames, don't want to end up like them etc etc etc.

My point was, sensible investment with a couple of "finished articles" were required long before now.

The fans will do the talking with there feet if we don't bring in exciting players.am not saying bring in every player the fan wants but we need at least 2.if we had a choice of 2 players at resonable fees and wages who do you think the fans would want edd.

9.) 13 Aug 2013
Well said

I'd love to see Finny sign, and hopefully he will, although i'm sure the reality, which a lot of people fail to consider, is that signing a player is a two way deal.

Any young, high quality players (the ones we're all hoping for) are not going to sign on the dotted line, only to see us crash out in the final CL qualifier.
These guys MUST be waiting to see if we make the group stages.
There's no way we can get this level of player with only the SPFL on offer.

That's the real conundrum. We'd like these top players to help us gain CL qualification, but these guys DO NOT want to risk joining us until we're already qualified.

Correct me if i'm wrong ED, but that's my take on things.

Why waste money, we got some great players who want there time in the limelight they want to show you what they can do, let what we have shine and bring on others around them on to there game, let them become a team again we have plenty young lads itching to play there part let's do this Mr Lennon you got the Heros now let them shine.

12.) 13 Aug 2013
Alan in Thailand

If any player sees it as a risk to play for celtic then we do not want them, let them stay where they are and win maybe nothing and never play in CL, that is my take on players who think they better than others who play for celtic.

13.) 13 Aug 2013
Hi Alan, hope you're well mate. I respect your thoughts but certainly don't agree-in fact the board probably dream about guys like you because it gives them an excuse to hide behind for never getting things done. They'll just say what you're saying! The bottom line is Celtic are a world wide club, potentially in Europe EVERY year so players would be joining knowing this, also the prestige off playing for us, Herenveen - give me peace, I also doubt very much that he's on more than roughly 8k a week(obviously Euro) there. Players would be falling over themselves to join us if we acted like the huge club we should be acting like. This is not a knee jerk reaction-I'm 36(watching Celtic since I was 7) the people at the top have never truly GOT it, I don't know if they think all the fans are a bit backward or thick but I am truly disgusted with them! We all want MORE in every sense of the word. If it's not the league we play in, it's the other mobs demise, if it's not that it's something else-I don't care about excuses, if the guys on the board can't comprehend this then I want guys who can. It's this nonsense that give's others ammunition in not taking us seriously when it comes to things like moving to a different league-we have the perception of an average sized club, not a giant. And you know what they say-perception is reality. Cheers, Paul

14.) 13 Aug 2013
And to that post that just came in there - between Alan's posts, (the one with no name) I just don't think you get it. The fans don't want a bean WASTED, what we want is quality at a good age with a re-sale value brought in to replace Ki/Wanyama/Hooper/Wilson. Our team is looking average all off a sudden. You are saying let our heroes shine-we need a balance dude. If you are happy with what is going on then fine, me and all my friends and family are totally appalled. We are season ticket holders/shareholders, but this is the final straw-we don't want millions in the bank, we want a brilliant team that is respected worldwide! Paul

15.) 13 Aug 2013
Cheers for the reply Paul (and "no name"). Guys, I totally agree with the sentiments that we should have players willing to crawl to Paradise.
The problem is this backwater league we're stuck in.
Unknown potential like big Vic are easier because they see us as a ticket to the EPL.
The problem with someone like Finbogasson is there are teams from far stronger leagues after him too.

16.) 13 Aug 2013
Oops, hit send too quickly!
Anyway, I agree, we should push the boat out for this guy. I'm just worried that someone with plenty of offers will not commit unless we have qualified already.
UEFA have allowed the big 5 leagues to destroy clubs like us, Ajax, etc.
Personally, I wish we'd ask his club to give us a take it or leave it price, rather than start a bidding war (which they're clearly doing).
I'd offer ALL of the Hooper money + some extra to get this guy.
Fingers crossed we do.
Hail hail from sunny Siam guys
Alan (still) in Thailand

17.) 13 Aug 2013
Sorry, forgot to add. Paul, when you said we are "potentially" in Europe every year, I think that is THE big problem. We can't guarantee it as UEFA and the so-called "big 5" leaguee have shafted clubs like ours.
We could, indeed SHOULD, be in Europe every year, but if the plan fails, you're left trying to sell games at Ross County, St. Mirren to a top prospect like Finbogasson!
I'm not a happy clapper by any means, just very frustrated at how badly handicapped we are in the transfer market!
Hail hail from Thailand guys.

18.) 13 Aug 2013
Paul.lets see what we got, next window is in plenty time to spend, let's secure all the players we have for next 3/5 years, see what money is left in the pot for next window, let the new and young players become men.
