It's being reported in the tabloid press this morning that Celtic 'are braced' for bids for Starfelt.

It may only be paper talk but I doubt our business is finished and we'll see some movement both In and Out as things pick up in the remaining weeks of this window

I’ve been saying for weeks I reckon Starfelt will be signing for a london club. I reckon a team like Fulham will be in for him. Maybe even Palace.

He'll need to be replaced. The big Dutch boy maybe?

{Ed007's Note - Or Nawrocki was signed as Starfelt's replacement.}

I'd imagine so Ed. I mean if Nawrocki's essentially stepping up to 2nd choice from 3rd then surely we'll buy another. The only alternative is Scales has done enough to catch the eye because Welsh and Kobayashi don't seem to be the answer.

{Ed007's Note - Ideally for me would be if Nawrocki is Starfelt's replacement bring in Xavier Mbuyamba and I agree that Scales has done enough to be given a chance to fight for a spot - if he is happy being 3rd/4th choice that is.
It doesn't look like it's going to work out for Welsh and if we can get a few million from an Italian team I'd take it. Kobayashi is a strange one, he's done little to impress me but should we cut the kid some slack until he is more settled in his new surroundings?}

Agree with your summing up Ed ?

Has anyone seen the big dutch lad in action (other than YT) ?

He must have something to have been at Chelsea and Barca.

The CCV and Starfelt partnership remain UNDEFEATED in the league.

CCV wasn’t at our club when we lost our first 2 away games a couple of seasons ago.
Starfelt was missing when we lost our next away match at Livingston.
CCV was missing from our 3 league defeats last season.

The only domestic game they have lost together in 2 seasons, was the Scottish Cup Semi Final After Extra Time in 2022.

Buzz, I love the stats. In my opinion if Nawrocki and CCV are the new cb's moving on then I only see the numbers getting better.

I personally hope Starfelt does not go as I think he has been pretty decent, yes he does have a mistake in him, but he is a decent solid CB. I think we need 4 good CBs, Star man, CCV and Nawrocki. The other 3 Welsh, Kobayashi and Scales simply don't cut it for me. I'm sure I will be shot down on this opinion.

i hope starfelt doesn't go and reckon he is undervalued by many on here, nawrocki will have to prove how good he is and that will take time and games, the other three although not bad players but never first picks.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Starfelt at first but I felt he came in heaps. That said, I think he’s reached his peak and I don’t think there’s much potential beyond where he is now. With that in mind, I think we should be aiming higher. I think there’s even more to come from CCV, especially going forward. If we can bring in someone of that same potential as a replacement for Starfelt then I think we should… unless that’s Nawrocki.

Plus Starfelt is 28… this might be our last chance to get some really good money for him.

Sorry buzz but a keep you a secret from my fellow tims and a give them all your stats and they think woW he's well clued up?.

{Ed007's Note - You're not the only one ???

There is a lot of criticism of Kobyashi but what real chance has he had to prove himself yet. You need match time to get match fit and he hasn't had any. Maybe he has hasn't settled into Glasgow yet. I think if we go for the Dutch lad, and I hope we do, it will be welsh who is away. That would be a shame as he's home grown and a decent player but not the level we need. CCV, Starman and the new guy are a level above. Scales is also decent and left footed which gives him the edge on Welsh. I still feel we have a couple of new signings to come yet.

if starfelt or any first team regular goes then their could be a new face in if no one leaves i get the feeling rodgers will go with what he's got.

Carl Starfelt’s domestic CCV partnership stats are great but IMO they mask a reality in terms of his own performances.
Give consideration to Starfelts big game Celtic record.
In his first season he was. Out jumped by Souttar for Hearts winning goal at Tynecastle. Out jumped by Helander for winning goal at Ibrox. He conceded a ridiculously poor own goal in our Euro qualifier. He had an absolute stinker in the League Cup Final culminating in being out jumped by Hanlon for Hibs goal. He lost Sakala to score an OG during our defeat in the Scottish Cup semi. These were all big games. Last season. He committed a rash tackle to concede a penalty at Ibrox. This was followed by another daft conceded penalty versus St Mirren in the cup. Starfelt has limitations. Under the ball, he’s not strong and it’s worth noting he doesn’t provide any threat in the oppositions box either. He can be sloppy in possession (which is possibly because he’s a right footer who predominantly plays on the left) . As a consequence Celtic’s defensive record when CCV drop’s out the side is poor. Starfelt missed 5 of 6 CL games last season. We’ll never know, but it would have been good to judge him in those games.
Its just my opinion but I wish he was as good as that domestic record (with CCV) suggests, but he’s simply not. At the very least, he definitely won’t take us to the next level.

Agree with that great post from Psav. The stats do mask the performances of Starfelt and to ignore his limitations is a dangerous game. Rogers knows, like most of us, if he is serious about improving in Europe, then we need much better than Carl. If we can get a reasonable price for him bring in a younger better CB, because CCV will also be looking to move back to England do we can’t hang about. If we take CCV out of our defence it drops down in effectiveness drastically and Starfelt doesn’t stop that. We need better. And Rocky is the start of bringing in better. The same applies to Taylor and Berny. Neither of them are up to coping in the CL. Bottom line is we lose far too many goals because our defence is never up to it. How long can we really use league stats to justify a player when those stats are predominantly down to CCV? Denying reality we should leave to Sevco. Look how that’s working out for them.

Totally agree with both posts, Psav and Magicpole, who, to be fair (MP) has always been consistent in calling out Starfelts limitations.

I'd go so far as to say that I'm surprised CCV hasn't been out with a back injury before now, considering he's been carrying Carl for two
seasons ?

Anytime an opposition attacker is running at Starfelt and he's back peddling, I fear the worst.

Also agree that our current scenario at LB, as far as European football is concerned, requires an upgrade.
