Over the years I have had the privilege of watching some top class midfielders at Celtic.

Just a bit of fun for everyone. How would you rank these 10 midfielders.

McStay
Lambert
Wanyama
O'Riley
Petrov
Lennon
Collins
Moravcik
Nakamura
Armstrong

I know there have been better midfielders but the ones I can think of are before my time of 80s onwards.

You know that’s a brilliant list when Matt O’Riley and Neil Lennon are 2nd and 3rd last.

I had to put those first 4 at the top because I have those players in my best ever Celtic eleven.

In no particular order

MOR
Petrov
Auld
Lennon
Moravcik
Lambert
Wanyama
TB (Tommy twists, Tommy turns, Tommy Burns)
Murdo McLeod

I'm goin' to get pelters but Paul McStay? Great first couple of seasons but after that I remember him as the master of the square pass so not for me.

I've not done mine but I was about to attempt it and just realised how hard it was. The only thing I know for certain is the maestro is top of my list as well. ?

Will finish the rest later.

We’ve had some great midfielders in my time and all of the above I agree with. I loved some others Billy Stark, Paul Hartley, Barry Robson, Alan Thompson, Big ROY, Joe Ledley. And the best performance ever seen Graeme Sinclair marking Cruyff out the game.

Aye Sean66, I forgot about these great players you mentioned. Some of these guys could put their foot in. Something we badly need for next season.

I couldn’t list them in a priority list . So many of them could make the top three impossible to build list . Midfield players like front men depend a lot on their team colleagues to demonstrate their effectiveness.

Take our current midfield Cal Mac, Hatate and MO'R in the first half last Saturday. All three were supreme, Sevco's midfield couldn’t handle them individually or collectively. Maybe it was heavy tackles they received or maybe A J but the 3 were not collectively as dominant after the interval.

As we have no way of knowing how for example Lennon, Collins and MO'R could play together over a season or two, I just couldn’t decide, but I would say one thing any manager who had any 3/4 of these players all in their prime would have one hell of a midfield.

I remember listening to Radio Scotland 810 m discussing N L joining Celtic and they were almost all convinced that Lennon and Lambert couldn't play on the one team.
