"It's just small things that we have to do better" - R. D quoted in a newspaper. If this an accurate, I am totally bemused

1. selection
2. tactics
3. substitutions
4. committment
5.motivation

Think I will stop there.

Well it was in a newspaper, So it must be wrong.

For me, these are the most critical issues;

1. huge opportunity lost to put Celtic miles ahead of you know who. Celtic's progress should have been to a level where it would take years for them to even begin to catch up. Effectively, mext year will be a level playing field which is shameful

2. a well publicised clear the air meeting between players and the manager is a shameful indictment of where things are. I can't remmeber the last time such a meeting was required by a Celtic manager. It demonstrates that there are serious issues around player motivation, committment to the manager, belief in what he wants to do etc

3. The manager clearly set out his stall when appointed - fast, attractive football, high pressing game, improved work off the ball etc. None of his philosophy has been delivered. Reasons for this have to be among these:
* players don't have the required ability
* players not committedd to his philosophy
* manager unable to either get his philosophy across or motivate the players to step up as he wanted

4. this links to number one, namely the loss of potentially serious income levels from failures in Europe. Just imagine what some degree of European success would have contributed to stretching the gap with you know who

The key question is who is responsible for / what explains the above? If the Board were in a position to properly funds and resource high quality management and players, then they have failed miserably. Conversely, if they have followed a policy of revenue cutbacks, then you get what you pay for and the issues identified above are the inevitable consequences.

I think there is another key issue, RD doesn't understand the philosophy he is trying to implement. He is like a student with basic textbook trying to deliver a postgraduate lecture, as soon as things don't go how he planned them in his head he is lost.

2.) 04 Mar 2016 08:17:26
He didn't have a problem getting the message across last season when we actually saw a high pressing game. Therefore, this would suggest that the problem lies with the players.

3.) 04 Mar 2016 11:35:13
I don't think it does, there wer many awful performances last year as well. I don't know when you last seen the team but in every game the system is flawed we have the front four players not taking part because of the positions they are told to take up. Our central defenders are constantly exposed one on one not becaus of this fantasy about players downing tools and not trying but because the manager is tactically incompetent. It is down to him, he wanted to be judged on performances then so be it. he needs to go now.

In the midst of all this, one recurring theme mentioned by people is that the team is devoid of urgency, motivation and perhaps even confidence

Jim McGuinness has been employed by Celtic for the past few years in some sort of psychology role and I undertand he was promoted to working with the first team last year as I understand it. I saw a purported remuneration package on this but it would be inappropriate to reference the figure

He was a very successful manager of the Donegal GAA team, taking them to All Ireland success a few years back. One of the key skills attributed to him was ability to motivate players to maximum potential and bond them into a very effective team

I am just wondering what role he currently plays with Celtic senior squad since it looks like a group of lost souls at the moment.

If that team had a small fraction of Mc Guinness's balls they would go places, different code thou and was motivating a different kind of animal as Donegals manager, amateurs, who to be honest don't need much motivation. To wear your counties jersey, there's no greater honour in GAA.
I don't know what he has to offer Celtic thou. Indeed at present there is no evidence to suggest he has contributed anything.

2.) 05 Feb 2016 01:27:33
Psychology seems a major thing in football these days but in hindsight I can't keep thinking about the Lisbon lions in tunnel before facing the mighty inter erupting into Celtic songs, that's being proud of the jersey don't think cesar would have needed a hour on the couch talkin bout his heartache.

3.) 05 Feb 2016 09:12:06
We didn't need psychologists when we had big AITKEN or Lenny running through amoroso at Ibrox Bertie and bobby dominating the opposition. This is an industry which is totally unnecessary, what we need is bravery heart and a desire to win no matter the adversity, players who won't throw the towel in.

Too many of this lot are like the cowardly lion of OZ and RD is the wizard all smoke and mirrors hiding a frightened charlatan.

4.) 05 Feb 2016 09:22:21
Most of the current squad don't know the 'Celtic Song' and too many seem to be overwhelmed and out of their depth at our club.

5.) 05 Feb 2016 18:04:50
Kevin Kilbane writing in a Dublin Paper said that ten years ago any top club having a psychologist would have been sneered at . Now he reckons all top clubs need a group or team of psychologists .
It's probably true that most of our players don't know the " Celtic Song " and I suppose it's hardly surprising as it doesn't appear too many spectators at our games know it either .
In fairness to Izzy he seemed to mingle more with fans than most other players but many fans turned their back on him . So I wonder does it matter .

1. Gordon looks totally terrified and intimidated at corners, incapable of taking charge

2. Lustig is very failed, should be placed in next window

3. Biton looked totally disinterested, robbed of posession so many times, didn't do much to get it back, he is ok whenC

4 nobody able to put in a half decent cross from either wing.

my thoughts:
1. mckay stevens, armstrong excellent footballers
2. johannsen vastly overrated
3. biton improving all the time
4. van dyk ordinary enough in this company
5. guidetti should have been on earlier
6.good job ambrose not on for long
7.matthews was excellent, esp. first half
8. izaguirre dodgy at this level

fwiw

1.) Emilio is being played somewhat out of position in this line up. IE not bombing on. If we want a full back, Izzy's not that - but for years he's been our best threat goinfg forward and I believe at least one goal came of that today

2.) Agree with a lot you say fwiw but Johannsen if anything is under rated. He's the real drive in the team and as hard as nails.

3.) You are having a laugh? Johannsen is overrated? He's underrated he had a great game and has had a good season so far

i think that's right, stupid to play a ball not in the danger area for all his detractors, I thought Ambrose did ok
Biton a seriously improved player
Stokes is hopless, can't pass and missed a sitter, yet annoyed when substituted

def. need for a quality centre forward and two centre backs in the summer and a good left back

in second half, why were Celtic so pedestrian, no urgency or pace, ball moving too slow and predictably

I was no treflecting on R.D who I think is getting to grips with it now, merely suggesting that, at whatever stage in the future, Stubbs could well be a strong runner
