I think we are all going to be disappointed if we think Celtic are going to break their record transfer and start splashing the cash.

I also think the only signings we are going to see at the club will be a GK to replace Hart and a striker to replace Oh. We may also see a LB.

I don't think we will strengthen the other positions unless we offload players.

It would not surprise me if the board have not learned from their mistakes and blow a 3rd transfer window in a row and we start the season with a weaker squad than we finished.

Although delighted, I was concerned that when we won the double, The Board would claim justification for their incompetent part in our season. Unfortunately we have been programmed for disappointment in the vast majority of transfer windows since 2012, although we always live in hope that lessons are learned and strategies progress.

I disagree mate, i think we will break our record especially if oriley leaves. If he leaves we become a massively weaker team and the club simply cannot afford to fail to properly replace him.
If we only sign 3 players we are in trouble. Esp with hart gone and oriley and kyogo likely to move on also.
I don't think the board can afford a gamble like last season esp with the amount of funds available. Another poor window could be catastrophic for them.
Remember if Sevco weren't so sh*te can you imagine the fan backlash if we hadnt won the league. Desmond and lawwell would have fled
Im confident we will make a statement this window with 6 or 7 genuine quality players, maybe a couple of 8 figure sums and few loan/ free transfers with experience.
If oriley is sold and with the CL money and sale of abada, other players and sell on fees from previous players we should have over 100m sitting there.
Nows the time to spend it.

If Mark Cooper can unravel talent such as valverde then exciting players might be coming from south America, need a head of recruitment in the door and a global scouting network set up with experts from each continent.

This is a key component to the way we stay ahead of the game for years to come.

If they don't get things right the fans will be the first to let the board know, I'm sure BR wants us all unified as we move into next season so surely the board will invest in the right areas.

Yes we did have a nail biting title ride season gone but the transition has begun and let's hope this is where we advance forward and leave the mob in our shadow!

It's not about breaking transfer records it's getting the right players.
There could be players out of contract never mind getting another MOR.
Spending 10m guarantees nothing but bad scouting and bad limitations on the players age ect guarantees another bad window.

Its not about breaking our spending record for the sake of breaking it. Its about bringing in higher quality players and by spending more on transfers (and wages) opens the door to a higher level of player. If we spend 5m each on 5 players vs 15m each on 5 players there is a far, far better chance of competing in europe with the 5 15m players.
To compete we need to aim for a higher calibre of player and to do that we need to spend higher and obviously that would break our record. Spending more doesn't guarantee success but gives us a better chance. that's what it comes down to.

Joe, there's no way you genuinely believe we'll only make 2 signings this summer.

There will be a break in if that's our only business. for one we need a keeper so that one player left. aye right.

Kev I did say we would only make 2 signings, I said we would make 2-3. I also said we would sign more if we managed to offload some we already have.

Derry, we didn't get anywhere close to our transfer record when we sold Jota for a hefty fee.

Hopefully we will see the quality players we all want. Think to see that though we need to push up the wage structure limit, we should be looking at say 40 -50k a week for decent players who would certainly improve us.

@derry - I agree that last summer's transfer window was shocking and that money was wasted.

However, my point was, Celtic have sold players for massive money already and this did not lead to us breaking our transfer record or a change in transfer policy.

I should point out that in recent years, all the big transfer fees we have paid (6m +) , have been on players we have had on loan first (Jota, CCV, Edouard) . The only one I can think off that we didn't have on loan first was Julien.

I agree that we should change our policy but I am not confident we will. Old habits die hard as they say.
