Evening Ed007, gally's post about henrik had me thinking of the lisbon lion side, I think out of all celtic teams since that day, henrik and lubo might be be the only two I would play does anyone else have any thoughts, cheers, eh and possibly danny macgrain.

Ths.

1.) My own view is that only Henrik could force his way into that team.

2.) McGrain was a far better right back than Craig, Jim Craig was very good/consistent, but Danny McGrain was world class, he didn't have a weakness-he was as hard as nails/very fit/consistent/brave as a lion, but he could do what most full backs can't seem to do these days - defend and attack. George Connelly was also a better sweeper type of centre half than John Clark-who once again was very good/very consistent, and who had a great understanding with big Billy(which is very important) but the clips I saw of Connelly/and hearing family who saw him live - he looked even more composed and technical than the great Bobby Moore! Also I think Dalglish and Henrik on the bench, and just stick with Chalmers and Wallace, but I'd be happy with any off the 4! Another player who would have got on the bench - Brian McLaughlin (before his injury) probably Macari as well! By the way does anyone/Ed know if we have a new fitness coach, I was told this recently, any info would be appreciated! This is a position that is super important, because it's everything that goes with it now(sports science/diet/recovery, etc, etc) we should have someone who is world renowned in this position I feel. If a player is earning 1 million a year for eg, it would be worth paying someone even a couple off hundred grand a year to get an extra 5-10% out off our squad. Cheers Paul

3.) Never seen Danny mcgrain but ma dad says he was world class, if playing today he would be at a top team and worth millions.

4.) Dalglish?

5.) Possibly Danny McGrain? Best full back in europe in his time!

6.) Why Dalgleish with the question mark?
Tambhoy

7.) Why ask why dalgliesh with a question mark?, ., .kbarry

8.) Doesn't matter how good players have been in their time at celtic henrik included no one could walk in to the lions side simply because they were a special TEAM the lions were simply the lions

9.) We could argue all day. Was Danny better than Jim? Was Kenny better than Stevie? Was George better than John? In each case possiibly, but would they improve the blend or teamwork which the Lisbon Lions had? My own view is not. Henrik could ply with anyone,

10.) Kbarry & Tam, I think some younger posters don't really remember Kenny Dalglish the player. I don't remember him at Celtic and only the tail end of his playing career at Liverpool.

He is arguably one of the best players to ever come out of Scotland and I would just love if we produced another player like that in my lifetime. Kenny was creative, had fantastic vision and a goal scoring ability the best in Europe could envy.

I would say Dalglish is the best player Liverpool have ever signed! ~ Mrs E

11.) Again and again. McGrain was was the stand out choice . i'm a younger fan but from the fuss from my old man and old clips. i've been convinced. The man still has the thousand yard stare at his age . and I was was happy to see him on the coaching staff (couldn't do any harm). presumptions or not mathews has developed massively at our our club. speedy recovery to the wee barra

Che evnin bud, what you said was very admirable and I don't dissagree with any of it, the point in all of this could have been avoided if the board spent dough on quality players rather than future ( stars! )

filling the stadium of freebees does'nt mean the atmosphere will be any better, but players that would exite the fans + plus a vibrant and colourful GB is my idea of a good combination, then tackle prices inside the stadium for us with kids/grandkids

I wait and look forward with baited breath on PL next move for next season, anyway, sorry for the long post,
2-1 the hoops and if not tonight the we move onto saturday

Evening Ed007

Do you reckon the CL game might just keep DM in his job?

Ths.

{Ed007's Note - Moyes will be in the job for a while yet.}

Aftrnoon Ed007

The need for Rangers to be back so we become stronger therefore giving us competiton to prepare us for the CL campaign, I don't get it, when they were at their pomp I do'nt remember us doing well every year, you might be able to provide the stats from their 9 in a row years till now

PS I don't regard, Efe, stokesy, forest or kayal as deadwood, ah bit harsh methinks :))

Ths.

1.) Efe's a bombscare + the chink in the armour clubs look to single out (along with Izzy) to focus their attacks through, Stokes is an average greedy primadonna, Forrest has no end product + injury prone, Kayal has never fully recovered from the injury he received from that thug Lee McCulloch.

2.) And I can provide you with the facts on Deadco's first three seasons on the road to 9IAR if you like:

R*ngers 1988-89: Scottish Premier Division winners, Scottish Cup runners up, League Cup winners, UEFA Cup 2nd round.

R*ngers 1989-90: Scottish Premier Division winners, Scottish Cup 4th round, League Cup winners, European Cup first round.

R*ngers 1990-91: Scottish Premier Division winners, Scottish Cup quarter finals, League Cup winners, European Cup second round.

6/9 domestic trophies, a SC final + 10 European matches.

Celtic 2011-12: Scottish Premier League winners, Scottish Cup semi finals, League Cup runners up, Europa League group stage.

Celtic 2012-13: Scottish Premier League winners, Scottish Cup winners, League Cup semi finals, Champions League last 16.

Celtic 2013-14: Scottish Premier League winners - elect, Scottish Cup 4th round, League Cup 3rd round.

4/9 domestic trophies, no other finals, although we played 32 European matches.

Deadco's campaigns was pre-group stage European football with less teams qualifiying and no safety net of UEFA Cup from the European Cup, etc. We also had a reprive (Sion getting kicked out) which gained us an extra 6 games - so let's just stick to comparing domestic competitions?

3.) Apologies, that should say a LC final rather than no other finals.

4.) 21 Mar 2014 17:22:49
Hamiltonbhoy, I was'nt looking for an argument or comparisons with Rangers, I was trying to debunk the myth that ( we need Them)! to do well in th CL, GS and NL have done well in my eyes, Celtic only need to buy quality added to the quality we already have and wee wo'nt be far away,
If we do'nt sell said quality, I maybe did'nt word it the way it was in my head, and NL has to show he has learned managerial lessons, jeez your Hamilton boyz are quite feisty lol:))

5.) Apologies mate, I've took your post the wrong way then. However, after investigating the facts it's made me realise just how dissapointing Lennon's been.

They achieved 3 doubles (6/9 domestic trophies) in a 3 horse race between us, them + Aberdeen. Lennon's achieved one double (4/9) in a one horse race. Really poor!

Haha, we're very passionate about Celtic in this wee bigoted toon. Especially the ones, ie me, who stay in predominantly R*ngers / Prod / Loyalist areas where they still have a Masonic Lodge, flute bands practising in the community centre every Monday of the year with the doors open for all to hear + a young team called Jungle Derry!

{Ed007's Note - You should get yourself up to Fairhill, it's a better class of place altogether.}

6.) We don't need Rangers as such, just a serious challenger and competition in the league.

If its going to come from the Ibrox Club then we have quite a few years to wait - assuming they survive.

I'm a bit wary of 'we should be beating all other Clubs in the league by a good margin every week now that Rangers are gone'? We never did that when they were here so why would it change now? 3-2 against ICT (2011/12) or 2-1(2004/05) against Motherwell and blew the title?

Celtic seem to shoot themselves in the foot all the time and I don't know why, it's very frustrating! This season's Cup exits are an utter embarrassment and I now feel only the treble next season will make up for it.

7.) Guys don't understand the efe bashing. Yes he can make a mistake just like any other defender, Kompany last wk)and I regard him the best. But remember this he is part of the best defence we have had in years.We have suffered from some terrible defenders in recent past. He makes a good partnership with VVD and I always say the partnership is what counts.Remember McLeish wasn't a great defender but with Miller made a great partnership.

8.) 21 Mar 2014 19:46:33
@5&6 Mrs E & Hamiltonbhoy

We lost titles to them recently due to our failings against teams late on in the season

Motherwell and ICT our downfall not Rangers superiority

Also NL the honeymoon is over no more repeating the same mistakes please, Aberdeen could win more trophies

Jayzus Rangers could win more trophies its just not good enough i'm afraid, .

HB burnbank/whitehill then lol

Ths.

{Ed007's Note - Can you remember and log in bud.}

9.) Ths, I'm thinking the Udston part of Burnbank - fondly known as the Jungle lol

Exactly we lost the title with defeats against teams like Mothwerwell and ICT, not just Rangers.

Rayman, I agree with your point. We still need depth in our squad and we can't pack it full of high earners. Efe does a job.

Evening Ed, guys NL has done a fantastic job for a rookie with all the pressures of managing Celtic and the shameful stuff he's went through, but an experienced manager with the same success ( or failures ) in all competitions I don't think he would have be given the same time, I hope he stays one more season and gets the four in a row then leaves before he has to face Rangers and all the bile and flak that will come his way, I've criticised some of his selections and subs but I would like to give him my thanks if or when he goes
GBNL :)))))

Ths.

1.) If he stays another season then leaves before Sevco make their Premiership debut then the bigots will see this as a victory, that they've ran him out of Scottish football with fear.

13 Jan 2014 21:16:45
Ed, Kevin Barry and hamiltonbhoy are going to have a field day if what I'm being told is true, 14 arrests after seatgate
ALL MOTHERWELL FANS only what I've been told, infiltrators in the Celtic end, any other area rubbish, with everything that's went on so far what do you think .

Ths.

1.) Normally I would never believe this but when I seen the ages, 14-16 it seems, it makes you think. If it is true Celtic will have some apologising to do.

2.) 13 Jan 2014 21:48:34
Seen it there says from the Motherwell area dnt no team they support

3.) 'Police have arrested 14 teenagers in connection with crowd trouble at last month's SPFL game between Motherwell and Celtic at Fir Park.

Six 16 year olds, five 15 year olds and three 14 year olds - all from the Motherwell area - were held bringing the total number of arrests to 25.

They will be reported to the procurator fiscal and children's reporter.

During the match, smoke bombs, flares and fireworks were set off. There was also trouble in Motherwell town centre'

I didn't know there was also trouble in Motherwell town centre? Its not really specific about if they are Celtic or Motherwell fan (or neither).

I just wish this situation with the fans and Club could be resolved, I still think there are faults on both sides. 2003 (before the GB), we are all celebrating Martin O'Neill getting the Club to a European final and the fans winning recognition from FIFA and UEFA. Since 2007 the Club has now been fined 7 times - not all GB related I might add! ~ Mrs E

4.) There's a logic to this. Look at the timing of it all. Suddenly 'celtic fans' causing trouble. However the trouble is small isolated pockets of people. The fact that these people are from Motherwell means nothing with regard to their background. Unfortunately their ages will prevent their identities being made public and therefore their true allegiances being made public, until a trial at least. Too neat.

5.) And with Motherwell's youth casuals (Saturday Service / Tufty Club) almost all gone ultra (Well Bois) + looking at the ages of the lads in their area of the East Stand, it could well be true that they lads infiltrated the away end to put a nail in the GB coffin. Since Aberdeen's Red Ultras folded there's been a war for Scotland's no 1 between the GB, Onion Bears / Blue Odour and now the WB. Think how easy it'd be to infiltrate and blend in to an away section these days - how many wee guys wear all the casual clobber cause it's the cool thing to do? How many wee guys do ye see at away games you've never seen in your puff before? I've been obsessed with the terrace culture since about 2005, and 8-9 years ago (even 5 years ago) you could spot a group of casuals a mile away. Now you don't know if they're dressers, casuals or ultras!

6.) What's a 'dresser' HB? ~ Mrs E

7.) It's like a sideboard but with a rack on the top. Or in the states it could refer to a chest of drawers. pea

8.) A dresser is someone who wears all your terrace clobber (Stone Island, adidas Originals, Lacoste, Sergio Tacchini, Fila, etc) but not involved in the casual or ultras scene Mrs E.

9.) Is there a name for the guy who stands around in public fondling his genitals (i'm quite serious)?

"So anyway, I was standing on a busy street in daylight with my hand down the front of my tracksuit fondling my genitalia, which was the style at the time"

or

"I was wondering about in public texting people with one hand and fondling my genitals with the other, which was also the style at the time"

Grampa pea

{Ed007's Note - LMFAO!!}

10.) @9 I believe this is called a calderwood.

That's my sentiments too,

Btw I don't know how far back you can go with posts, but one of my earliest posts was, " I expect Aberden to be most improved side from last season and d McKinnes would prove to be a good choice or something like that, they hav'nt surprised me

Ths.

{Ed007's Note - Aberdeen are slowly but surely moving forward but we are hurtling backwards, the gap in quality between us has noticably shrunk.}

Hope your day finished better than it started,

Hav'nt been posting for a while, really can't believe we're just going along with everything Rangers! (SFA)

It's all going to plan for them, all this new people coming and going and in fighting it's all part of their plan, to stumble into next season

Is it PL plan to store as much cash as possible for this much vaunted move to another league being spoke of?

Ths.

{Ed007's Note - I have no idea what PL's plan is but it isn't working. I can't see any move to another league happening any time soon and by buying dross and getting pumped in Europe doesn't back up the claim we are too big for Scotland. Aberdeen could finish the season with more trophies than us.}
