John Park been offered the Director of football post at Norwich and is supposedly thinking it over, mate just texted don't know where he heard though. you ED?

green jhedi

{Ed007's Note - I had a message from the Norwich Ed about it this morning GJ but I can't see JP leaving Celtic, he is very close to Peter Lawwell and has a lot of power at the club. The only way I can see him leaving is if the new manager stipulates a dilution of his duties from Football Development Manager to just chief scout and I don't think Lawell would like/allow that

1.) When there is no news, the vacuum is filled with nonsensical rumours .

2.) Fair chance he saw in the back page of paper

Forrest to Everton for £8m? I would bite their hand off if it's true.

green jhedi

1.) Would take half of that in a heartbeat

2.) 25 May 2014 18:30:14
not the first time in recent weeks for this to be rumoured in newspapers. hopefully there is something in this one

but if not maybe under a new man we can finally see the best of him (extremely optimistic but who knows)

3.) I think I'm a bigger fan of him than most however even I know he could be replaced (improved) for a lot less than 8m. Btw, McGeady hardly featured so dunno why want jamesy.

{Ed007's Note - McGeady played 17 league matches since January, 2 short of the 19 Everton played. They want Forrest to replace Gerard Deulofeu who was on loan from Barca.}

4.) Only 5 starts though Ed? I thought Forrest would go on to be better han McGeady but really don't think he's showing it. Anyways, I'd be chuffed with 8m.

5.) Forrest has loads to work with, especially in the modern game - he has great pace and balance, quite strong and a good work ethic for a winger. He is basically very direct, you don't see all the tricks that McGeady used to show, but bottom line is that's it's about substance/end product. If you look at McGeady's goal scoring record, its a complete embarrassment, players like him should be scoring at least 10 per season - he never gets over the ball and keeps it low. He has not progressed the way he should have - well the proof is in the pudding and you had 1 club wanting him even although he was on a bosman. I think with regards Forrest that the mistake Lennon made was that he basically made it clear to Forrest that he would be a first choice regardless, even when he wasn't fully fit/at it-he was Lennons favorite. I think he should have done what Fergie did with all his kids, drip fed him into the team. It let's the player know he still has a lot to learn/along way to go, and helps avoid so much injury because of over playing at a young age.

6.) Take it n run. Forrest has went backwards since he first broke through in 2010. Four years of mediocre performances n injury!

Are we, at last, about to enter a period of utter domination domestically? . After many chances to fulfil this dream,
MON, Stein and to a lesser extent Strachan, it looks like it might actually happen. All those managers had success by i am talking about UTTER domination.

I never fancied 10 in a row, mistakes and cheating refs i thought would kill that, now? Not so down about it. BR has performed something of a miracle in that he seems to have added 20-30% to players from last season. His astute substitutions, how many times has he used a sub and they have scored or landed an assist, is very clever. As for his signings? Nothing to say there.

The football we are watching is modern and pacy, on song we can dismantle anything in the league, and young players are gaining valuable minutes on the pitch. On Tuesday we looked to have, at last, learned how play away from home in Europe. Missing some players made it even more impressive. Another positive

This time i am sure the board will sanction pretty much what BR wants, this is why i believe we will be settings records for years to come. I also think they might back him in a European punt, he has shown tactically how good he is so give him the tools. We also have some terrific young talent, Ross County away painted an interesting picture for me, and kids who are doing well at every level.

Will it happen? Who knows but going to games right now is hugely enjoyable, even against packed defences as we watch a proper coach pick a hole in them.

Beat Barcelona at Celtic Park? Feckin right we can!

green jhedi

{Ed007's Note - Nice to hear from you, GJ.}

1.) 04 Nov 2016 20:59:15
Good to hear you GJ from me too.

You've hit my main positive for me, in that BR has the muscle now with the board. A proper manager.

From what we have heard DD has had a rocket up his backside, sanctioning the move for BR. PL too. No way in the past would he have signed lucrative contracts for the likes of Moussa, Sinclair and Toure. Players who will walk in the side. Add some positive footy and much needed changes behind the scenes to boot and it's looking up.

But yes, we are about to see a total domination, better than anything in my memory (Stein excluded) .

2.) 05 Nov 2016 11:37:26
Welcome back GJ and must say I feel the same about our long overdue dominance and improvement under BR.
As a club we are notorious for not strengthening from a position of power and unfortunately we compounded this even more by selling every decent player we have had since 2012 - replacing them with budget buys and risks like Bangura, Balde, Boyata, Scepovic and many, many loan deals that made little or no improvement.
Thankfully we still managed to maintain the run of titles, but many other trophies and European credibility went a-begging.
The appointment of someone like BR and the confidence within the club at present was overdue and it's a reminder to The Board, that when they get it right - everybody associated with Celtic benefits. I only hope he stays with us to see the job through?

3.) 05 Nov 2016 17:54:21
Agree with the others good to read your posts again green jhedi, n agree totally. I see us getting the 10 easily n making inroads in Europe as well as ensuring we start to produce regular first teamers from our youth, year after year or at the very least 2 to 3 years.
We have the makings of a great side n a bit of quality in the right positions would help in Europe take us that step further.

Does anyone agree that if we get beaten tomorrow, minus any 'honest mistakes of course'their should be a clear out at Celtic? Last week i watched sevco v Peterhead to see this magical warbs free flowing football. Seriously, we should hurt them badly.

I honestly cannot see one area of the pitch where they could hurt us. Dead balls around the box maybe, to be fair the right back can crack a lovely free kick, other than that pretty much nothing. I fully expect Broony and Biton to have total control of midfield, which should lead to us having plenty ball, and force them back.

They also seem to be a fairly small team, Peterhead caused them trouble from these, so i would expect decent quality in our crossing with so many targets. In their favour is that do play at a high tempo, the front three usually interchanging, but they are not as good as the press would suggest'

So. A team. Johanssen would not have been in mine till the last few weeks, but he looked very sharp v Murderwell. Rogic, always a favourite of mine, seems to be an after thought at the moment but there is quality there. So here goes.

Gordon
Lustig
Boyata
Mulgrew
KT

Broony
Biton

Roberts
Johanseen
Rogic

Griff.

GMS could consider himself unlucky in my team and Commons is a master hunskelper. CKR on bench to bully their CB pairing if needed. Always tricky against lower league teams and bad reffing but i just cannot see us losing.

1.) 16 Apr 2016 23:07:24
GJ you are right about the gers RB ( Taverniea) spelling but if we push on down our left then he should be nowhere near the norm positions he gets into.

HH.

2.) 17 Apr 2016 00:31:04
Agree GJ anything less than a dominant display against this tribute act will not be acceptable. If the unimaginable was to happen then Ronny should be sacked in the morning. I know we'll get the protectors saying Lenny was beaten by Morton Strachan was beaten by Clyde but the major difference was we had victories against Barcelona, Man U, Ac Milan etc at that time to soften the blows. Ronny hasn't beaten anybody .

3.) 17 Apr 2016 01:00:50
My sentiments exactly; Miller is the only Sevco player that would worry me, because of his experience and record with Oldco.
My main concern is that rat-bag Thomson who has sent off Celtic players in several semifinals before and it has affected us badly.
Whether you believe it to be sheer biased, or utter incompetence - the guy has a long controversial history with Celtic. However;
On our game, we should be far superior all over the pitch and failure should result in serious repercussions for manager and players.

4.) 17 Apr 2016 07:40:25
GJ who plays on the left, I would have thought it would be either SJ or Rogic in the squad with gems or CKR on the left?

However I agree with your points 100%.

5.) 17 Apr 2016 07:48:43
I agree with that line up entirely GJ. Johansen has to get in for his versatility, iron man style and energy alone. Rogic will probably tire. So there could be time for GMS to come on. Possibly Commons. Or if things go well enough give the kids a run out!

Think we could do with a clear out regardless of todays result though. I'll not go down that road today. It's about positive energy today. Some may not be interested, but those that are should be happy come mid afternoon.

Can't comment on them as I've not seen them since we played last. I know Tavernier is decent, but I'm not concerned by him, nor anybody. We play like we can, don't shoot ourselves in the foot, common sense says it's a formality.

Good posts re last nights game. Everyone has something solid in their accounts but it seems we are not over reacting. yet. Dundee away was always going to be tough. At Celtic Park they showed they had a system that troubled us, i suspect they caught us on the hop last night by playing much the same way.

Our main problem right now is LG. This is not criticism but he is going through one of those spells every striker has, he needs one to bang in off his ass just get it over the line. He will be back i have no doubt.

I posted that Broony had me worried, nothing last night changed my mind. He looks like the old gunslinger in a western being sized up by younger outlaws. For weeks i have watched him being robbed in the middle and causing us problems with three or four breaking on us. has he got it in him to come back? Over thirty and a few injuries? My heart says yes.

Overall i thought we deserved the win, though Dundee would claim they should have scored and it would be hard to argue. Already painted in the media as a point dropped it might turn out to be a vital point gained in the run in. I have always thought v the sheepies at home was the big one. Nothing has really changed.

1.) 06 Apr 2016 16:25:49
GJ I actually think our goalie secured a point for us last night with a string of half decent saves compared to the Dundee goalie who I can't really rember having to do much . I agree with you about Griffiths who hopefully is just temporary off the boil because there's nobody there to fill his boots . Whoever sanctioned the signings of Cole, Kazim Richards and Ciftci needs to have a word with themselves another thing that puzzles me is the sudden dissapearance over the last few months of Izzy who if not playing should be on bench or even play with KT alternating on left side . Still 5 points ahead so Friday and Saturday should be really interesting.

2.) 06 Apr 2016 17:09:26
Imo the big problem we have is playing three defensive mids while playing two wingers to feed a small striker . e need a playmaker desperately and an alternative to griffiths (who was awful last night) as we can't just depend on him for a whole season . finally well done the youngsters some of who deserve a outing in first team . Hendry. Hill Higgins aitchyson . mcilduff miller mcart kellehar who have all looked good anytime I've seen them and younger ones plain their part and looking good as well.

3.) 06 Apr 2016 17:24:30
The main problem is Leigh Griffiths! Don't make me laugh how about the fact that if LG doesn't score there's nobody else who can step up and chip in with a few! Never midfielders who don't score. We don't even have another striker who can chip in with goals! So I would suggest that is more of the problem than LG! On another note is the manager having a laugh trying to put a positive spin on things suggesting a clean sheet against Dundee was positive! I don't care what their league position suggests Dundee fc are along with Hamilton and Utd one of the 3 poorest teams in the league and we have played them twice in the last few weeks and failed to score a single goal against them! Ronnie also suggested we are in control of our own destiny and won't give up our title without a fight what kind of talk is that! Of course we should be in control of our own destiny with 6 games to go. In fact with our resources we should almost be over the line but the fact is we now have to go to fir park and get three points and I for one am not confident will do it although I pray we do! I think ronnies expectations and the fans are miles apart and I hope to god we can fall over the line and win this title then clear out the inept management team along with some of the mediocre players.

4.) 06 Apr 2016 17:52:10
Did you read post right before replying. . I said the problem was three Def mids and two wigs trying to feed griffiths a small striker . I then said we can't depend on just him . no criticism apart from he was rubbish last night.

5.) 06 Apr 2016 18:09:39
My reply was to Green Jhedi DRB. I hadn't read your post mate at the time I wrote my reply.

6.) 06 Apr 2016 18:28:49
Well you jumped in early mate. Did i say LG was the answer to to ALL our ails? Surely its obvious if he is the only striker and he, at the moment, can't hit a cows ass with a banjo, then that's a problem? His touch is also poor just now resulting in no hold up from him.

7.) 06 Apr 2016 18:31:48
No probs iceman.

8.) 06 Apr 2016 19:06:12
Green Jhedi I understand what you're saying mate but you state LG's loss of form is the main problem and I disagree with that! I agree he's went off the boil the past few games but the point I'm making is a players form can dip and that is where others have to step in and take responsibility of scoring. We don't have that anywhere! Strikers or midfielders so for me that is the problem not the fact that LG has gone off the boil! We can't expect him to score all our goals.

9.) 06 Apr 2016 23:11:02
Aye things are desperate L G has gone 3 yes ( three) whole matches without scoring Like Brown the man is too old, old age and having 3/ 4 children has blunted his movement and control of his balls . Bad management by R D to allow his captain and main striker to go off the boil at the same time .
Maybe we should go back to having strikers that don't put their balls in the sack😄😀.

Really enjoyed yesterday, more so as this was a big game for us. Walking up to Celtic park there was a strange feeling, it was almost like the old days, everyone united in one thing, supporting the team.

Last week at killie you could feel a shift in attitude. Having said that i feel the away support always back the team harder than when at home, but last week was different. there was an awareness that maybe this team needs to be loved? We are still a young relatively inexperienced team, certainly in the winning trophies department, but in stages yesterday we looked disciplined and forceful.

Hertz are a very decent team and surprised us by the pace they opened at. They were quick, first to every second ball and very composed in their passing. They were giving us problems. Happily we never buckled and gradually took control of the game. But not all is green in the garden.

Broony. I am a huge fan but he is well short of his A game. A rest maybe? He will start in the semi, so maybe a break would work for both parties. We have enough players to cover, clever move by RD leaving Biton out by the way, as he and McGregor could slip in.

Just seen the sheepies half time score so on to the next one! If we stand behind the team i am sure this group have it in them for a double.

green jhedi

1.) 03 Apr 2016 14:34:12
Another great post. You should do it more often again.

Yesterday in terms of atmosphere and feeling around the place was the best all season. I think a lit more of the fans are pulling in the same boat now with the scent of success getting stronger.

2.) 03 Apr 2016 14:57:58
The mood amongst the fans changed at Kilmarnock with Rogic's goal, if the referee had blown his whistle before he scored it the fans reaction would have been a lot uglier, certainly from what I could hear.
The result yesterday was great, but it was our fourth match against them this season yet we seemed to be wrong footed by them for a lot of the game.
What I find worrying about this team is their inability to learn from previous matches, against Aberdeen early in the season we were out battled at pittodrie, when we went there again in February, it was exactly the same, we had learned nothing. Against Kilmarnock, twice before this season they had frustrated us, yet when we played them a fortnight ago we still hadn't figured out how to break them down until Rogic's wonder goal.
Then yesterday as I said, it was our fourth match against Hearts this season and yet we didn't look as if we expected their physical pressing game, yet that's how they played against us on the three previous matches.
I'm sure we have done enough now to clinch the title and please God we lift the Scottish cup as well, but I don't think that we should be happy with the quality of football that we are playing.
When teams in Scotland are able to stop us playing, and no longer fear coming to Celtic park, then I think that something is wrong, and we need to do something to try and reverse this.

3.) 04 Apr 2016 00:05:08
Gerryc we have played Hearts 3 times previously and they played two defensive lines of four . Yesterday they were far more offensive, so having played them before wouldn't necessary have prepared us for Hearts yesterday . Despite their different tactics we beat them reasonably comprehensively . We will win the league and unless we have a disastrous performance in the cup, or suffer from mad bad refereeing decisions we should have a double .
The funny thing about it is that last spring I was very optimist about this season, but it has taken us a long time to get our rhythm and so I just can't be sure we will build on yesterday's form and be comfortable next season.

I may be against everyone here but I think it would be madness. The kid is just too young for that kind of commitment.I agree he seems to be a special talent but at his age? Really?

green jhedi

{Ed001's Note - he is highly unlikely to sign for a club and be loaned back anywhere. His dad, who is looking after him, has made it plain that he will only move to a club who will give him first team football. Otherwise his intent is to stay where he is until an offer like that comes up. He has had tours of Real Madrid and Liverpool, amongst others, and literally has his pick of European teams. Unless his dad is lying, and I have no reason to doubt him, the kid will stay put unless the right move comes up and that wouldn't be a loan back move. Real Madrid are offering him the chance to play for their B team, Castilla in the Spanish Segunda Division, under the coaching of Zidane. Personally I think that is his most likely option, even though he is a Liverpool fan, as they can offer him playing time as well as working with Zidane and training with Ronaldo, amongst others.}

Surely your question starts with where you think we are as a team. This nonsense pushed mainly by the press about Europe is designed as a smokescreen to attack Ronny. Was Europe the be all and end all when Lennon was in charge? We have not dominated Scottish football for years what makes people think we should power through European competition?

For years we have talked of leaving Scotland, EPL, Championship etc, for a 'new challenge' as we were too big for Scotland. The best concept i heard was the Nth Atlantic League. Most secondary leagues would be there. What we saw last night was a Nth Atlantic league game. Viewed in that respect it surely changes perspective?

Tierney, Rogic, Allen, Armstrong Forrest and GMS, all young players who will have taken lots from this. All linked to Ronny in some way. Biton, made a much more influential player by Ronny. Griffiths, changed his whole life style under Ronny's instruction. We also now score in Europe and have spells where we are very good at keeping possession. And to the defence. We lost Denyier and Virgil, FFS quite a hole to fill eh? I remember when Celtic fans gave young players a bit of slack, let's remember Boyata is a young player as well, but Jozo looks able and will get better.

We had to change as a club. We needed someone to coach, in life and the game, a crop of talented younger players. I think Ronny is the guy who will do it. Only a shocking bit of cheating, and that's what it was, denied this man a treble! Add Christie, Henderson and M'Connell and that's quite a young squad. I am confident he can do it.

@Dh88. I think you miss my point. when i say Scotland i mean the Country as a whole, not just the footballing side. You use Norway as a bolster for your argument. Norway are reaping the benefits of investment into youth football. Would you fancy Scotland to beat Norway over two legs? Would not be easy IF they did.

On Ronny, when are players going to come into this equation? If a player plays a short pass how is that his fault? If a player misses tracking back is that his fault? individual errors are killing us, not Ronny. I will give you that he does seem to be rigid regarding shape. I also feel that sometimes the mix can be a bit one sided, but i have faith he will take us forward.

On the four teams we played, hard to argue with you. We were better than, or should have been, all of them. Again, players have to look at themselves as well.

@ DH30; When you heard the team on Thursday like me you would thought that was enough. What were the choices? Would you have trusted Blackett? Not even Mulgrew available. Shuffle Lustig in one? Who at right back, Janko? another small defender at a back post. The point i am trying to make is his choices were limited. Until the new boy settles in we will be troubled by any team running at us with pace. Hearts midweek will be a real stern test. This game makes tomorrow vital. We all need to turn up and get a right good display heading to embra.
