Hi ed! First time poster, great site m8! A was just wondering if anyone thinks we should try bring Maloney back in the summer! Personally a think Neil made a mistake letting him go,, we could be doing with someone with his pace in the squad! Martibhoy {Ed007's Note - Thanks very much Marti and welcome. Personally I think Maloney's time as a CFC player is over and should be left like that.}

Believable8 Unbelievable21

Although Maloney played his part in his first stir at Celtic, his second was a failure. Sick note would demand too high a wage for what would be a back up

Junglebhoy33

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we really need a Maloney type player, just off the main striker. Hooper is been playing this role Since end of January and doesn't have the craft or guile to truely influence the game from there. But I don't think Maloney is the answer too injury prone and would cost too much

Agree0 Disagree0

Maloney back for a third time? You having a laugh mate? He dumped us first time, flopped second time and now you want him for a third? No thanks, he's had his time.

Agree1 Disagree0

I thank the man for one of the best ever goals against them. but no, not again. shammy

I'm tired of hearing about what sly want or if sly wanted it then it would happen.
What we are witnessing is a powerful monopoly in action, which if in the USA, would be breaking anti trust laws.

What should be happening is at least four providers of all games should be available for folks to choose from at the best price for home viewing. And yes if that means a Polish company so be it.

I can choose from several for my gas, electricity, broadband/ telecoms,. Why am I stuck with sly or nobody for my football? The cameras should be owned by a production company and the broadcasting rights sold to four broadcasters for every game (including sly) whereby customers can choose their best price broadcaster.

Believable25 Unbelievable2

Excellent idea, sly, ESPN, STV, tv and yes setanta would still be alive all providing the same games on different packages. Sharing the market.
Infinitely more competitive, more fees to SPL and better choice for fans.
What the game needs. Taking the sly monopoly down. We could choose our preferred commentators thereby getting poor ones the sack for losing viewers.

Agree0 Disagree0

SPL and EPL should sell a fixed price license to any broadcaster that wishes to show the games. unlimited number of broadcasters.

Agree0 Disagree0

100% agree and we should petition the British government and monopolies commission for this change.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sly have offered the SPL the best cash deal - all about revenue

Question: how many of the CL last 16 teams will have to start at the early stages Celtic will have to next season?
There's something wrong with the system when singular team achievement is not justifiably rewarded because of a flawed system that takes into account other national and club team performance.
For example, Manchester United went out at the same level as us. Will they start the competition at the same round?
Chelsea went out before us, I certainly hope they start their CL run before us (if they get in).

The system benefits the sustained presence of the big clubs such as Manchester United regardless of similar performance to other clubs. The equations need changed to help new challengers coming through.

Believable19 Unbelievable1

If Celtic got through to semi finals they'd still probably have to do qualifiers for group stages and group stages losers would enter next season at group stages, its a corruption.

Liverpool winning it then not even qualifying to enter the CL the next season demonstrates how crap Uefa has it set up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Uefa are saying cheers Celtic but your efforts have not improved you and you do it all again from the bottom next year. You cannot build on your performance and advance.

Agree0 Disagree0

The system is unjust and keeps them rich and us poor.

Agree0 Disagree0

Uefa are giving Celtic no recognition for their efforts this season and Celtic will have to start at the same level as say Helsingborg who didn't even get into group stages. What's the point?

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Mar 2013 22:36:25
It's not next season but the season after CFC will see the benefits of this seasons campaign. Stevie

Agree0 Disagree0

I've posted further down on the rumours page explaining the UEFA coefficient rankings and how it affects us.
Stevie, you're right - we do get the 'benefits' in 2 years time (of this seasons results) - if you can call them benefits.
The fact is, as long as Dundee Utd, Hearts, Motherwell and the rest keep getting pumped in the Europa pre qualifying rounds it will affect our CL qualifying.
I very much doubt we will ever achieve direct entry into the groups in the near future - as it will only be Celtic doing ANYTHING for Scottish football in Europe.
We would probably have to qualify for the groups, then qualify for the last 16 for the next couple of years I would imagine.
Cyprus are better than us according to UEFA.

Agree0 Disagree0

The whole co-efficient system will always be hard on Scotland - especially when our other CL representatives go out after game one.
The competition was rigged for big rich teams from Europe's top table to progress every year. Thus allowing 3rd and 4th placed teams from certain leagues to enter into The 'Champions' League making a mockery of the tournament.

Agree0 Disagree0

We knew the rules before the competion started, so let's just get on with it. If folk reckon we are a last 16 team, we should be able to beat the teams in the qualifers.

Currently watching Matej Vydra for Czech republic, just scored his second goal away from home against a surprisingly well organised, good passing, physical Armenia side. First time I have seen him outwith Football league highlights on a saturday night and I am well impressed. Big, strong, quick fit and good link up play. I would be delighted if we got him. Seeing as he has started as Czech's main striker and scoring twice I imagine there will be a lot of scouts showing interest after this performance. Great header for first and sheer strength to bully the ball from the centre half and a composed finish for second. Looks a very good player.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

Is he not on loan at watford from udinese?

Agree0 Disagree0

He is yes. Come the summer he will be hot property by the looks of things. Maybe Udinese will want to keep him. Don't know his contract situation.

right ed bhoys & ghirls and Rangers stalkers who only know how to press unbelievable who would you like to see replace forster if he goes in the summer as I don't think Zaluskaz is the ideal replacement don't know much about the young swedish u21 keeper and I don't think robbie thompson has been offered a new deal. Would we go for the Holy Goalie Boruc, Kieran Westwood at Sunderland who can't get game time due to the form of Mignolet me personally would go for David Forde of Millwall we had him in our sights last summer as an alternative if forster didn't sign now first choice keeper for Ireland or do we look elsewhere maybe europe?
davy {Ed007's Note - I don't think Forster will leave in the summer Davy.}

Believable2 Unbelievable5

Yeah I agree with ed I don't see him going, he is our no 1, he knows it. he will stay another year or 2 then move on, not going to leave being a no1 and move down south to be a possible no2 warming a bench.

I think that even if we do lose a couple of big names the priority should be sorting out the defence. We need to have an older, more experienced head in there that the younger guys can learn from and take a lot of confidence from.
We still have an abundance of central midfield talent without Wanyama. Wing wise I would love to see Forrest stay injury free and get a good run in the side again. I think he still has a lot to offer but has had his confidence knocked.
Hooper will probably leave in the summer and if he isn't interested in signing a new deal I would play Tony Watt upfront from now until the end of the season.
We need to hit the ground running early next season with the Champions League qualifiers and giving some of our younger players big game experience towards the end of this campaign could prove beneficial should they be called upon because of injuries or suspensions.

Believable10 Unbelievable0

Trouble is with Hooper is he needs to finish the league as top scorer if Celtic still want to command any sizeable fee. that's why he still gets a game. Plus Lennon is pretty professinal in that way. Your absolutely spot on about the commanding experienced CB as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hooper should give himself a shake and finish the season with a 'farewell flourish' and leave the club and support on the best of terms as he has been coasting for months.
I like Forrest but I think he can be very frustrating at times and a wee bit predictable and hopefully competition from McGeough will achieve the best of both.
I agree with you about Watt and apart from niggling injuries he should have been given more opportunities - before Stokes for example. I agree most of us would love to see an old head at CB too.

Jungle Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

Age isn't the problem in defence, its a lack of quality full stop.

Varane is one of the best defenders I've seen in recent times and he is only 19.

The young lad that we had come on in i'm sure it was one of last years early European games looked calm and composed, I can't remember his name, but he's not had a sniff.

Wilson can't read a paper never mind a game of football. Always getting caught out. Yes he can head a ball, but that's because his Heid is made of wood!

Looking at various message boards and forums I cannot believe the stick Peter Lawwell is receiving regarding the Celtic support. This has been bubbling away in the background for months. The Green Brigade has started to polarize the support. I am a fan, I think Celtic Park would be a soulless place without them. I also think there is a lot of hypocrisy in some peoples comments about them. You cannot marvel at the invention and creativity shown at certain games, Barca and the last old firm for example, then get all sniffy when it suits you.

The facts are they do step over the line some times, I'm 53 and in my youth I did at the football, but it is a passionate sport. We follow a club who demand and deserves that level of passion. To be fair they do seem to learn from their mistakes, I have not heard IRA mentioned in song for long enough, and they are, for sure, on the end of some pretty poor treatment.

Where they are missing a trick is to cover there ass. The weekend of the "kettling" shambles was a case in point. We all know that to march on a road you need a permit from the council. The chances are that permit would not have been forthcoming. If, as has been reported, the Police offered to walk them to Celtic Park using the pavements, they should have accepted. High ground taken, learn and move on.

And to my original Point. What could Mr Lawwell do? Yes, the antics of the police were over the top, but it was technically the accepted way to control a crowd. I think that was wrong. Dialogue from the Police would have been surely the better option. Mr Lawwell is the CEO of the biggest club in the country. A club with few friends in the press. He has to be aware of this with every statement he makes, he represents Celtic remember. Although he must be aware of one thing. When push comes to shove we are all Celtic supporters, we stand together. And if these bullying tactics continue against the Green Brigade, more and more of us will become more vocal in our support. green jhedi

Believable10 Unbelievable4

GJ, I agree with a lot of what you say. However, remember the Club's stated refusal to be treated worse or differently to any other. Did Sandy Jardine get permission to lead the march on Hampden? Did John Brown seek permission for his Buckfast-fuelled rant on the steps of Ibrox? If the answer is no, why didn't the police intervene? Maybe because 5,000 angry zombies is a different kettling of fish to 200 peaceful GBers.

Hitler was creative and inventive, but he turned out to be a bit of a c**t

My experience with them at away games has left me with a dim view of them. One that has been shared with the majority of fans around me. To be fair, as I've said before, I don't think/hope, they weren't a true representation of the GB as they were more like the green boys brigade.

MgC

Agree0 Disagree1

@TomTheTim; As far as I know jardine did get permission for the Hampden shambles. I seem to remember the question being asked at the time. As for brown, that was not a march. This seems to be the key point. The marching part. They should have used the pavement and called the Police's bluff.

@MgC; I am always suspicious when people use Hitler comparisons in a debate. I have missed one away game all season. This dim view, what caused it? What I see are a bunch of guys who are total in their support of their team. As I stated I have heard some questionable lyrics early in the season but not for a long time. green jhedi

Agree1 Disagree0

Green jhedi your spot on as usual mate. Its time every celtic man, woman and child stood up for the Green Brigade,. ,. kbarry

Agree1 Disagree0

GJ, that bit was a joke.

Just their language and behaviour. The Aberdeen game stands out in particular, one little Naaf in particular, constantly hurling abuse at the ball boys, stewards, disabled folk beneath them. They even fell on the disabled folk underneath them whilst fannying about. A separate fan got spoken to by the Polis for a song he sung, and he was fine and apologised saying he got carried away and asked when they planned on doing something about the idiots. When the stewards eventually decided enough was enough and went to get the little Naaf who was causing most of the problems, there were plenty "about f'in time"s getting banded about.

MgC

Agree1 Disagree0

@ Green Jhedi

My understanding is that Jardine claimed some young supporters had come up with the idea of a march and within a couple of days they had put the plan into action. GCC needs at least 14 days written notice of any protest march, therefore it could not have been authorised.

As for Bomber, it may not have been a march per se, but there are still rules on unlawful assembly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic have just released a statement saying they are assisting the seven people who were arrested and refute any allegations of assisting police or authorities against our fans. DH

Agree0 Disagree0

@MgC; I don't doubt you mate but are you sure he was a green brigade boy?. As far as I know they are very strictly controlled by their seniors and a certain standard must be maintained. What you saw was indeed vile behaviour, but any time I have come across the GB they have been very well behaved. In the chippie at Auchterarder there were a few and they were good fun, carrying on with the servers and having a laugh. green jhedi

Agree1 Disagree1

I think the key point is - we are all Celtic supporters, but that may be the only thing we have in common. I go to Celtic Park to support my team, not to engage in political or social demonstrations therefore as long as the GB stay away from areas where they cannot know that they are representing anyone else then I will happily watch and listen to their entertainment. I do think they are being victimised en masse by the police and would happily sign any petition, write to my MP/MSP in their support and to have this matter investigated and would encourage anyone at the club to do so - Peter Lawell included but keep it legal. CB

Agree1 Disagree0

Going on your original point. We are very very lucky to have someone like Lawwell at CP. I would go as far to say he's one of the best signings our club has ever made and it's time others realised this.

Agree0 Disagree0

Right this is a tough one I love the atmosphere they bring to celtic park and if they went the place would be like a morgue but I know some of them are trouble and green jedi you should try drinking in a pub when they all come in its like the addidas samba crew most of them don't look old enough to be in a pub and the antics they get upto are unbelievable at times but celtic park does need them.

The Raff.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm above the GB at home games and think the place would be very quiet without them. One thing that does annoy me is when the 'lead singer' on the megaphone starts songs with some language I wouldn't let my 12 year old hear. Point is, they should bear in mind we try to encourage people of all ages to support our team, and whilst I might use questionable language more than most, I don't do it in front of kids and I don't shout it down a megaphone. We're better than that.

back pages today. aleksander tonev for £3m. bulgarian winger. plays for lech poznan. has 10 caps. 23 year old. apparently cover/replacement for forrest. shammy

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Back up to Forrest? Did you even think before you posted this? Any player we pay 3m for will not be bought as a back up!

SOS-bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Saw his name pop up the other night and had a quick look at him. Looks decent enough.

We will and would not spend 3million on a player for cover. As for a replacement? Lennon loves Forrest so if anything he'll be a replacement for McCourt and/ or Commons

On A different note. Watched Feruz play for the Scotland U21's last night while he is still only 18 (officially) he was "not that great". Think we were lucky to get 100k for him

Believable4 Unbelievable5

I heard his ego has got bigger since he left and the attitude problem is still there, there's been the usual going awol on a couple of occasions like what he did with us and when on scotland u18 & u21 duty (breaking curfews night before games).

Agree0 Disagree0

If the little idiot gets his head right he can be a superstar. I have heard he is not very popular at Chelsea and they are willing to offload him. Man City and Arsenal keen.

Joeshmo1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Watching he he looked like a less interested Nigel Hasselbaink. Now I know Hasselbaink has something, but the idea he's going to be a superstar sounds like nonsense. Sure both players might prove me wrong but I predict wigan or west ham for both boys.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a talent no doubt about it! His attitude is his major flaw and personally I think will be his undoing. And we got nearly £300k for him, decent money. If he screws the nut he could go on to be worth a fortune. I've seen him about a dozen times for Chelsea reserves, development team and playing youth cup matches. He has a gift. Little a&sehole though unfortunately.
