Not sure how to word it Ed, but it would be an interesting poll on whether we back the GB and banners or feel they are destroying our club.
Im all for the points they are trying to raise but personally I think most of them are silly wee boys firing the bullets of a few with an agenda they are pushing. But what do I know!?!

ED007 as most fans now agree the GB were out of order with their banners, if a poll has not already been done, can we have a poll on whether the GB should be banned from Celtic park and what % of support they now have among us ordinary fans. Timalloy {Ed007's Note - I've put one up now Tim, I was wondering how to word it to include all points.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just like people want to have their feeling to British army exploits known every November by wearing a poppy and observing minute silences in football grounds up and down the country (their belief, their choice, their right) the GB have also their right to highlight their points of view whether or not you agree with them . ban the GB from Celtic Park ban all political symbols including poppy's. 2 sides to every coin . I'll vote against ban . TTTS

Agree0 Disagree0

@1 excellent example TTTS, ., .kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

What is an "ordinary fan" Timalloy? Anyone who doesn't share your views isn't an "ordinary fan" then?! I think TTTS has made a fantastic comparison, and likewise I will fully back the GB in what I see as more propaganda by the PLC to deflect attention away from the major issues of underachieving on the pitch. PL is quick enough to say we're a big club playing our part in a major European competition, well start acting like one during the transfer windows and quit the penny pinching, biscuit tin, profit/loss sheet mentality! Show a bit of ambition, rather than celebrating getting to the party and making up the numbers!

Just saw Doncaster on evening TV sports news. Saying they'll comment on away banner in due course. I get a feeling the response will be fair and balanced. Just wondering if the ridiculous Longmuir got the job I'd be feeling the same.
Unfortunately Ogilvie is heading up the SFA and we know the corruption of the rules that freely happens under him. I could not believe his woeful tenure was rewarded unopposed by another tenure. Shocking.

Agree with most of that except the support that should be down at about 5

Dannybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Commons 5.5 then Ledley 7. Is commons not 1 of our top scorers most games he seems to be our most likely to create something. Ledley has hardly played. Ledley is a good player nothing gr8

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to say Mulgrew should be higher, quieter last few weeks and looks in need of a rest(which NL won't do), but I think he has had a really good season so far!

joeshmo1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Commons started the season great but for me he has been a huge disappointment in Europe. Ledley when fit brings the team together. Nothing spectacular, he just goes about his business

Agree0 Disagree0

Mulgrew 1.5 and I am in a generous mood!

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny how we all see a game different, I had a pop at Mulgrew last year but have been impressed this year. Obviously DesH sees a game different to me.

joeshmo1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Samaras and Mulgrew are 3's at best.
ALthough the support have been tremendous in some games; part of the support have cost us fines and aggro -7

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not going to nit pick too much as you've put time into it and it's your opinion BUT. How Pukki got a 4 is beyond me? Ledley 7? Possibly. That then would mean commons would be similar and Brown less than 7 makes it not possible. As for the support being a 10. Your having a laugh! Only when it suits, CL! Parkhead is like a f@^+in morgue any other Saturday!
My 2 sons and daughter 11, 9, 7 started to sing along with another small group trying to drum up some atmosphere, and were told to shut up and sit down by other so called supporters, that almost killed it for me! Supporters 5

Bigbadjohn

Agree0 Disagree0

Big bad John I would have given Brown more but his CL indiscipline has cost him and Commons domestically has been good but as had a few below par CL performance s and there was a bit of irony in giving the supporters 10, I gave us ten for our patience and 10 for the fact that we haven't lynched that penny pinching board of ours

Agree0 Disagree0

Now that you've explained the 10 for the support BadBhoy then I agree totally. There's a mixed divide but the board have a lot to answer for, not NL!
He and the support have been let down badly AGAIN. It's in the past now but 3/3 half decent players would probably have seen us into the last 16.
I'm a realist but I think the board could have done more!?
It will snowball to the point when we can't even qualify for the groups!

Bigbadjohn

Agree0 Disagree0

Big Bad John, Neil Lennon has a lot to answer for too. He should be demanding the players he wants, he has the board by the short and curlys, if he was to resign there would be blue murder, but Neil is content to ask for rather than demand as he lives the dream.

His selection and tactics were wrong last Tuesday and he was badly exposed. He picked a team with 4 wingers and no balance.

It's harder to get dropped from the team rather than get on to it, look at Forrest as the prime example.

More work needs to be done on the training ground as regards first touch, beating first man with a cross and passing. Get the basics right.

Granted he has had some fantastic results which are masking the deficiencies in our domestic performances.

Basically we are not playing particularly well and we are not putting the ball in the back of the net enough of the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Commons has got to have been 1 of our best performers this season another 2 goals there on sat, u say its because his performances on Europe there hasn't been many good performances in Europe. A don't remember Ledley getting much game time in Europe {Ed007's Note - Do you not think the CL is just a step too much for Commons MB? Fantastic player on the domestic front but he spends far too much time AWOL when it comes to the CL. It's him that is needing replaced with a quality CAM/No.10 type player IMO, far too many attacking moves break down with him trying to score from 20/25 yards rather than put his foot on the ball, have a look at his options for a pass or create something for someone else, and if that is NL's tactics then the manager needs to have a hard look at his own naivety and tactics. CFC need to learn to have patience on the ball, pass to an available man (even if it is a sideways or backwards pass, you are still keeping possession) rather than smash it from 25 yards just because he is in the position to do so. To me Commons is another player who is far too inconsistent at CL level for my liking.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree to disagree on some of that BadBhoy. I don't think NL does have the board by the short and curlys and if he's not backed properly in January (which is usually hard) or the summer? NL won't be there! The more we make as a club the more they want and that is why they took the cheap option to try and get the same results. NL isn't irreplaceable to me and he has made mistakes, but he can only work with what he has and to be honest some of that team aren't his players. This has been continuous not just after a couple of high profile defeats which some fans will latch onto.

Bigbadjohn

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi BigbadJohn hand on heart we know where the January transfer window is heading and that's probably nowhere. We might announce a pre contract but we won't spend. League is won and no European football, but we live in hope. Given a choice I would do all my shopping in the January window, give them 5 months to settle in and then a month off and everyone is in tune to have a crack off the CL qualifiers. We were minutes away from blowing CL football in August 2013

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe it is a step to far maybe not, a Thot he done not bad last year in Europe. He certainly isn't under performing compared to joe

Well I've read the TV online page link to GB statement regarding the meaning of the banners and the terrible injustice, etc.
The GB have interesting points, I agree with challenging bad legislation, just not at football matches. I do not agree with political or ideological or religious/ sectarian banners at football matches. I backed the zombie banner as modern youth culture.
What appears to be rolling out is possibly a semi intelligent charismatic ideologist with an ounce of leadership persuading young daft sheep to follow along his crusade road of self righteousness. There's possibly failures in his past, chucked out of uni or whatever, and an angst and dislike of authority figures. A restlessness to not conform and be at peace with the rest of society. If it wasn't this he'd find something else.
The people of and Ireland are trying to get over all of that stuff. It's in the past for them. Did the GB consult the families of Sands or the H block hunger strikers to get their feelings or permission to represent their memory in such a way at Celtic park? What would the GB do if the families disassociated themselves with the GB? Still hijack their memory?
Celtic officials met the GB before Milan game and received assurances there would be no inappropriate banners. A lie. Out popped and the politics. These GB guys are therefore untrustworthy, liars and deceivers.
Ironically they probably would like a full stadium of people sympathetic to them. Instead they are driving Celtic supporters away from them in their tens of thousands. That's political suicide. Win friends and influence people? Fail Fail. What's the point of unfathomable banners that need explanation afterwards?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Great post, as you say they lied to the club and just proves they are out for themselves and do not wish to work with the club but just make thier own rules and do what they want. Then once they get punished by the club, they are all in an up roar saying it is unfair and the club is against them. And when this happens they act as if they are one of those people in jail that they reference.
And like you say did they ask those groups and consulte with them before hand, no of course not. They are too lazy, if they truly had a strong motive to prove something they would look at all ways to get the word out. But they use our club and stature as a platform, thinking they have athe backing by everyone. When in fact they are splitting fans and bringing shame on our club which also hurts the very messages they are getting out. But they don't care about anyone but themselves, doing so with arrogance. Like across the road with the "ppl don't like us, we don't care" we are the ppl(gb)

Agree0 Disagree0

Its clear to me an many others that the GB don't have the best interests of Celtic at heart. I doubt many of them could even tell you the score after the game and I challenge many of the youngsters to even know who was. They have their own agenda and seem hell bent on bringing trouble to the door of the club. The OP makes a great point, the people of Ireland have moved on. So either get behind the team or find somewhere else to protest!

Agree0 Disagree0

The anthem of Scotland, sung at sporting occasions, makes reference to history over 700 years ago.
How is that moving on?
So the point is a valid one.
Whether you like it or not, some Celtic supporters may agree with the GB.
If you don't, do something about it yourselves.
The only way to settle it is through fan dialogue and self-policing.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with (3) on this. Alex Salmond has so far pushed his Scottish Independence campaign on the stereotypical William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, Battle of Bannockburn stuff. Why is Scottish Nationalism being promoted, when at the same time Irish Nationalism is being a criminal conviction (Roll of Honour song, which you can buy from iTunes, etc legally) under the Offensive Behaviour at Football bill?!

Afternoon Ed007, if two posts come through @timalloy second one ending gb its a pity will do both are very similar I still find quite a few posts dissappear, by the way did you find out who your stalker was lol . I don't suppose its a laughing matter knowing there's maddie out there getting aw het up aboot a view you hold, its coming upto panto season . he's beehindd youuu , lol {Ed007's Note - I didn't find out mate no, it's all just water off a duck's back to me (sometimes I do actually enjoy winding people up to the point of their head exploding as they bash their keyboard). If people are so sad they need to go on another site to slag me off then they they really should get out and get a bird or something.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ths i'd put my bottom dollar on OMR the sevco poster being Ed's stalker. I can't seem to find the posts though, but he does seem to get along well with our Ed and that's the ones you usually have to watch. OMR seems to get a lot of posts up on this/our site though, I've tried several times to get a post up on sevco's site but have to log in. I've been peed off sometimes myself when some of my own posts have gone awol but to threaten is not playing ball.Cant Ed just look at the Ip address or something? Ed keep your friends close and your enemies closer bud and keep up the good work, albeit agree or disagree, ., .kbarry {Ed007's Note - OMR always posts logged in with his registered name (which will be obligatory on all sites soon) and his posts are at least thoughtful and legible compared to most of what that ilk can come up with. And I get on with everyone I'll have you know, cheeky sod ;)
All of us Eds were getting sick of people moaning about anonymous posts so we have been switching the worst sites for over the last couple of months and this one will be switching just before or after Christmas. I've said it before, anonymous opinions don't interest people and are best ignored. I wonder what OMR will get me for Christmas....}

Agree0 Disagree0

Do we all get a prezzie then ed if we log in? If so i'd like a new striker maybe finbogasson or a celtic mug'll do, ., .kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

Where can I find your stalker anyway ed that yous are talking about? And i'll give hime a verbal earbashing. It may well be your misses as you do use her money for betting, lol, ., .kbarry {Ed007's Note - It was an article on E-tims about Hugh Keevins and some wee w*nk-stain decided to use the comments to call me names, really scary stuff KB, know what I mean. I actually think he thinks I am Hugh Keevins when I read it back again.
As I've said, it's water off a duck's back to me and you've know me long enough now mate, as if I would ever upset anyone ;)
Anyone who uses the site can see I am happy for you guys to debate and I will join in, I don't ban people for having a different point of view to mine, I ban people when they need to resort to excessive offensive/bad language, name calling or delete them posting things immaterial to the debate or adding nothing to it, that usually leads to the former language/name calling which leads to a ban.
If people want to post or read pages of 'You're a d*ck' .... 'Naw, you're a d*ck'.....'You're maws a cow but' yhen there are plenty of sites they can go and use, this isn't one of them.
I enjoy all the debates that go on in here and we can openly discuss and debate some touchy subjects, but I try to keep the posts posted adult orientated or funny. A lot of the time I would like to join in but I am busy elsewhere.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree Ed, you got me with w/stain not heard that for about a decade, but i'll be using it tommorow, bringing back into style. I bet its a darksider bud typical. I know I've had a telling off or two but I respect your words and wit, even when i'm not in full agreeance although not much. Once again keep up the good stuff and don't let the wee w/stain get ya down, ., .kbarry {Ed007's Note - Cheers mate.}

Peter Lawwell:

"Our supporters do not want this any more. We are a non-political organisation, a top football club in fantastic shape, aiming to play its part as a major football club on the European stage.

"Regardless of the political views people hold, football stadia, whether it is Celtic Park or anywhere else, should not be used to promote these. This is something which all football authorities, including UEFA, have stressed for some time and something well known by all supporters.

"The club don't want it, our manager and our team dont want it, our supporters don't want it and the football authorities don't want it - it has to stop" ---

-----------------------------------------------

I charge Lawwell with misrepresenting the identity of the Celtic Football Club, and by extension, subverting the natural expression of the Club's political identity through his, and his colleague's persistent attacks on such expressions as made by the Green Brigade, and other groups and individuals at, or in-between games.

Whilst the tradition of de-politicisation of the Celtic Park stands began long before Lawwell arrived, his maintenance of this false anti-sectarian project is deeply contrary to the spirit of the Club's foundation, its development, and its current form. So too is the pricing out of ticket allocations from the affordability of the people in the immediate locality in the East End of Glasgow.

These two reactions against the true spirit of Celtic Football Club are symptomatic of the current economic fashion, namely neoliberalism, which puts profit before people, and must protect this principle against all possible threats.

Such threats currently include the very political and cultural traditions of the club: they are not marketably tasteful, nor are they acceptable to a governing body, UEFA, with at best limited understanding of the spirit and nature of such clubs as Celtic.

I hope that Lawwell, as a well-meaning representative of our club, to stand in solidarity with the Green Brigade and other groups and individuals who seek to express a mode of cultural and political thought which seeks to criticise, or even attack, ONLY the true oppressors in our current society, whilst at the same time seeking to protect and champion the vulnerable and the oppressed in our society.

This is a class issue, and Celtic is, and should always remain a working class club; a club of and for the people of Glasgow's East End. The Green Brigade should not be 'tolerated' and punished internally when they step outside the UEFA line: NO! They should be celebrated and championed for the passion they have invigorated in the stands, and the platform they have facilitated. Lawwell etc should take this challenge to UEFA and accept the interim fines in the meantime, not as a penalty for having vulgar or obscene fan groups (as there many such clubs that DO harbour these), but rather as an injust penalty that we are proud to pay as a Club that enables the voice of counter-hegemony, the voice of the vulnerable, of the oppressed, and perhaps even, of the revolution.

Why not, rather than shut down and shut out political expression, embrace it and champion it as a method of raising political consciousness, reducing sectarian ignorance (which sadly of course does exist), and challenging the excesses of modern football. Why not return the Club to its TRUE nature, a club borne out of class oppression, a club used as an instrument of social hospitality, as well as political education.

That is the Celtic that exists in our hearts, minds, and memories, and I believe it exists in mine, just as it does in Lawwell's . The Green Brigade DO represent the fans, as well as the club. I say all power to them, they do a fantastic job, and they are a heartening beacon of protest and solidarity in the current cold, dark, and violent mire of austerity. SOLIDARITY WITH THE GREEN BRIGADE

Radical Independence

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The green brigade do not represent me.
Let them pay the fines the club gets. It will be fantastic job if we get kicked out of europe right enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

God bless the Green Brigade. Peter Lawwell stand up for our club who pays/paid you millions(you fatcat)or get to fu(k, ., .kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

Ya your right let's let the green brigade run everything just cause they give a good atmosphere. Don't drag Celtic into this mess, the gb don't speak for the fans, they speak for themselves and don't care about the club only to get thier message out. If they cared about the club they would not continue to get it in trouble with fines and tainting our name.
There is a way of doing things and they don't care of thinking away of doing it properly only to use the club for thier own stupid way to get a word out. They are trying to control the club and flex thier muscles going up against the club thinking they are right all the time. They are splitting the fans now, is that good for the club? No, if you want to see them make an arrangement with them away from Celtic park. They think they can't be touched and for some reason think they are of higher power greater then the club trying to do "good" when they are doing it thier own way and not the right way. Shame on them for trying to split the fans

Agree0 Disagree0

Wish the GB would f*** off and leave the political propoganda for politicians. We are a football club, a great one at that and I'm proud of our heritage. We continue this through our continued charity work and how we, the supporters, live our life. Our club is handicapped enough without fine after fine from these persons who probably were not even born when the troubles in Ireland happened and know nothing about it. Leave Celtic park to football. If you can't then, in my humble opinion, you are not welcome

Agree0 Disagree0

Am all for the Irish cause but there is a time and a place Celtic park is not the place. Do the GB really give a f*ck about the Irish cause or is it mostly a bunch of persons more interested in being aloud to do what they want sing what they want, most of who probably have never been in Ireland.
Celtic park is where you go to support your football team not get your point across about the IRA.
If they really want they can go hold rallies and see how many turn up.

Who did actually report the game on Saturday and the game on Tuesday and why did the rangers never get reported in Scotland.

Agree0 Disagree0

@4 marty who are you to welcome anyone to celtic park pal? The gb turn up in hundreds if you go to cp (IF) then you go as one. If you don't turn up the stadium is one down if they don't turn up its an empty section. Time people got over themselves, ., .kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

6) A false anti-sectarian project? Are you for real? As you clearly now Celtic's history and origin so well you will know that it has always been open to all. You should also know it is a football club which, since it ceased to be solely a charity in 1892, is primarily for the purposes of entertainment and not poilitics. This has nothing whatsoever to do with neoliberalism and do me a favour and spare me he class issue drivel. You are conflating entirely separate issues and would be better focussing on why a group of petulant and conceited "supporters" appear incapable of engaging in political debate in appropriate forums, instead chosing to knowingly do harm to a club they say they love, despite the wishes of its own supporters. Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry but I believe Celtic was started to feed the poor of the east end, Irish or otherwise, I do not believe Brother Walfrid mentioned anything about freeing Ireland, Mr Paterson you or the GB do not speak for me, I go to watch Celtic play football nothing else, as for kbarry, who are you to tell an employee of Celtic to get to F---, you and your ilk should do one, as the vast majority of Celtic supporter's are fed up listening to your political drivel
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

@8 tommyboy iam only presenting my opinion. And "the vast majority of celtic supporters are fed up listening to my political drivel" i'm honoured that you think I have a big enough say, that the "vast majority" of our supporters have even heard/read my drivel, cheers thomas, ., .kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

The GB do not represent me or my political, religious or any other opinions I have. I am quite capable of expressing these myself when I feel it is approporiate and in an appropriate forum. Unfortunately, as a supporter of Celtic, I am by default, going to be associated with the GB and their political views which I do not appreciate.

Agree0 Disagree0

@9 A typical reply from someone who obviously cannot see the bigger picture, are you not heard by thousand's at parkhead?. Many of those thousands who do not wish to hear your drivel, tell me do you know who lead's your band of brothers, or do you follow on blindly, because it is obvious to me that someone in there has a hidden agenda.
Btw name's Tambhoy, but if you think it makes you look smart to call me some thing else, fill your boot's

Reading everyone's posts from last night it is plain we are all disappointed firstly with the manner of defeat, especially at Celtic Park we fans deserved a better performance.
Secondly, most agree the board have let us and the team down by not reinvesting some of the money coming in. We are not asking for silly money signings but a decent amount of what we bring in after all the normal bills are paid.
It seems this board only look at a profit and loss account, so here is my suggestion.
It goes against the grain to suggest this, but I think it is the only way to make our board take notice of us the ordinary Celtic fans.
We should NOT buy season tickets, or purchase club merchandise, new strips etc until Lawwell and the board invest properly in our Celtic team.
Money is their motivation, and if 42,000 of us hold back our money, they will get the message.
As for the team, I think our coaching set up needs to be looked at also. I do not think Maljby is a good coach, so perhaps bringing in another coach with fresh ideas to work alongside Lennon and Maljby might help. Timalloy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's unfair to single out mjallby he is a coach who may or may not be good .the only person we should look at is Lennon he picks tactics and players for matches and over the last 16 months we haven't been up to a good enough standard in the league and this year since elfsborg Europe has been a struggle. Yes 3 good players left but 10 million was spent which doesn't look to have been spent wisely and Neil is part responsible for that. We need our manager to stand up and take a firm grip as all we see is players lacking professionalism (watt, stokes, Forrest, mulgrew, brown and Neil himself) then we continue to play play players who are free to sign for other clubs in January. I say sign the contract or don't play again and get players ready for Europe next season.

@op, afternoon timalloy, sorry bud, but I i dissagree about starving the club of income, we as fans could walk out at halftime on a televised game or go in late en mass (pardon the pun ), the board have reacted to the GB ( embarrassing the club ) they could then try to explain to their sponsors or wider audience the reason for this, next year we need to be ready for the champions league and the following season when rangers come back, .Ps celtic need the humour and the passion of the GB, without the political stuff, do'nt know if they can separate it, pity really .
