Just on the Man Utd page and they were talking about possible departures and a few have said they want rid of Januzaj. One of the posters comes out with 'Surely someone will take a £15m punt on him'. I mean seriously the football world has gone made especially the EPL when the now talk of £15m 'punts'. It really puts into perspective how difficult it is for us to compete. Likewise you see that £250m has been spend down there today alone with deals like Stones for £50m, Bolasie for £30m and Ayew for £20.5m. These valuations of average players is killing the game and makes life almost impossible for teams like ours. I tell you what, with the prices down there, if anyone enquired about the likes of KT I would start the bidding at £20m as this is peanuts for these clubs and I genuinely can't think of a better LB in the EPL. I also think it highlights how good a job BR is doing thus far with his recruitment. I think in this market we need to be patient and understand the difficulty we face finding and buying quality players. That said, this is the most positive I've felt about our great club for some time.
What's everyone's thoughts?

Great post Marty, the figures quoted are absolutely crazy. How on earth can bolasie be worth 30mil! It's deceiving, money now doesn't represent the actual ability of the player. Great that rogic has signed a new deal and I really enjoyed the hearts game, and can't wait for the next few and season ahead! Lots of good vibes going round Celtic park!

Folks. Yesterday only Man city really spent money because all the other Signings utilised theory than Man city pumped in to the market

Everton sell a player and bring two in for the money they got

And so the roundabout continues.

Clubs and markets will become saturated. The 'norm' in England means these type of fees.

Clubs like ours have to sell ourselves in a different fashion:
Potential CL club, game time, medals, fan base, global brand etc
Then we have to shop clever: players who have talent but done little in the game (SS? ) , players who have quality and have achieved what they can elsewhere (kolo? ) and we must look to markets from everywhere to find the potential stars of the future, and finally we must offer state of the art facilities to develop talent.

As fans we must:
recognise our place in the pecking order
Allow youth to make mistake and progress from them
Realise our massive budget ( in Scottish) terms is largely insignificant in the uk/ top level.

The board must:
Be sensible with the quality vs quantity aspect
Be upfront with the fans
Don't short change us with false promises

What I see so far this season looks good, be patient and see where BR can take us.

Hail hail.

When did City give Utd 90m? Lol. Look, they can afford to do it. We can't. We're in a different game. If we could, I'm not sure everybody would complain. I can see why it might be frustrating to some - us being a big fish in a little pond, whilst money has given goldfish the whole ocean. But life's a b*tch.

Your post is bang on the money MartyC. It is also the reason why I despair when some of our support don't quite appreciate the difficulties of getting in quality players from a market that has been grossly over-inflated by the EPL.

In one sentence. I blame sky TV. The money the club's make down there for winning the league is outrageous, even the relegated teams get a huge sum. The team promoted to the premiership in England get a scary about. All figures we can't compete with. Btw I love football being on TV but surely they will have to cap fees for players before too long.

Personally I take more satisfaction out of our club signing unknowns and turning them into players.
Wanyama was a great example and we made a packet.
Spending big on players never really works for us either, berkovic and schiedt are just 2 to name.

Even the king himself only cost us 600k. Imagine what he would fetch now. These clubs are losing there identities and don't want to give youth a chance so they prefer to sign ready made players which I guess is just part of football nowadays.

Tick these managers don't bring youth through because they have no long term plan for the club because the manager will be gone himself inside 3 years so they are only looking after themselves. Chelsea have about 60 players out on loan. What I can't understand is where all these players go?

The transfer fees between English clubs are not based on how good the player is, it's based on how much the selling team can afford to knock back and how badly the buying club want him. The fact they have this megabucks TV deal now means that teams like Bournemouth and Crystal Palace have enough money to be able to knock back bids of £20/ 25M. It's obscene.
