So what is everyone's thoughts on Rodgers going for Liverpools Joe Gomez on loan (reported in S*n today) ? Bit underwhelmed with the loan element as we would have no chance of signing him after, but prefered position is CB can play both LB or RB very well apparently. Seen him playing LB myself a few times and looked a very tiday player so kind of not sure how I feel about it myself. could be good back up for all 4 postions at the back I suppose.

Sounds like the papers guessing to me I can't see us doing many loan signings to be honest! He would be another Denayer great for a season but no realistic chance of us ever signinging him permanently waste of time in my eyes we need to build a solid foundation at the back.

Six month loan deal is pointless.
We should not be taking any loans in if there is no option to buy

hope he dosent sign anyone for back up tompo, when he signs players i'm hoping its the level of player that should be first choice, i think by clearing the club of players first is a good sign, i just hope that we don't leave it late as seasons b4, would like our buisness done early for a change.

Never been a fan of loan signings as we have had a very mixed bag over the years and if they do work out like Denayer did - it only papers over the cracks and doesn't have a long term benefit to team building and consistency and we have problems finding similar replacements.
If I remember correctly, only Samaras became permanent after a loan period and that had mixed fortunes.

I personally have no issue with using the loan system if its the right player in the right position. Fraser Forster was a great loan signing and eventually signed full time and brought in a good transfer fee for us. If the player isn't realistically going to move permanently then they should be here either to cover long term injury, part of a bigger plan like being in place of a youth player who is out on loan gaining first team experience before coming into our own first team or like Roberts is an exceptional talent and is a long term loan. We've had too many dud loans who have barely played and must have cost the club a fortune in fees and wages.

But it is the 6 month part of it, what would be the point of a six month loan, is crazy.

We wouldn't take him for 6 months we are looking for a year. Similar to Roberts Man City were only keen for 6 months deal, but we persisted and got the 18 month loan sorted so anything is possible.
