I remember watching Ebanks-Blake in the championship a few seasons back and he couldn't stop scoring. He fired them to the prem then got dropped. He hardly gets a game at Wolves now but he scored twice tonight and hes still just 25. Considering the championship is easily as good as the SPL, I think he could be a good signing. Strong, powerful and great scoring record for Wolves when you look at goals to games ratio. Surely within our budget aswell. What u think ed?

First time poster btw. Jamie {Ed007's Note - Welcome aboard Jamie, Ebanks-Blake does seem to have fell off the radar a bit lately, could be a decent shout.}

Believable17 Unbelievable3

Take it u seen this player on the rangers page any player rangers are in for you lot seem to want them as well sad and pathetic WATP 4 in a row

Agree0 Disagree0

Love it how rangers 'fans' are more concerned with celtic than they are their own team, probably as were a bigger club

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take him in a minute, n big Mick is a good Tim n would probably sort us out with a deal. I think he'd be the perfect foil for hooper.

Anyone else hearing rumours about McDonald coming back?

Jamesey Bhoy

Believable4 Unbelievable20

Wont be this window as the wee man currently injured.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not heard anything, but to be honest we should never of sold him in the 1st place. dont know about you jamesy bhoy, but id gladdly welcome him back

cant believe celtic are not giving rasmussen a chance. He did alrite when we signed him. His downfall was signing Keane. Hes better than samaras and murphy.

Believable29 Unbelievable11

Totally looked the part worth a punt if not get rid of him

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't know why lennon persists in playing Samaras and Murphy. Surely Rasmussen deserves a chance. I would keep him and get rid of the other 2 donkeys.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm better than Murphy, but it doesn't make me a Celtic striker. Rasmussen is at training every day. If he showed ability, he would be in the squad for matches, especially when we are obviously desperate for a striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

To the person that posted "I'm better than Murphy"
Maloney must show something in training cause he shows bugger all on the park. He should be given away

Agree0 Disagree0

The guy did it for us when we asked him to. Scored a crucial goal in a game which looked like ending in stalemate at Hamilton and cam on to score the winner in the 3-2 win over Hibs that season as well.
To me it just seems like a player who Lenny just dislikes so I would guess no chance he will play for us again.
A real pity as I think he could do us a turn.

HH
/BB

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Rasmussen but he may have said or done something to annoy Lenny, as for Murphy when he's played he's scored but I can only think of a handful of games he's actually played in but Samaras just makes up the numbers we need shot of him asap

First time poster. Everyone simmer down. A couple bad results aint the end of the world. Its a long season and we aint gona win them all. Agreed the team needs a couple of players but still think the current squad is good enough to win the league. To many ppl jump ship and throw the team under the bus way to quick. Get behind the team, win this week and get through then worry about signings. Heard a rumour a former player was returning next week but couldnt get the name yet. As soon as i hear any more I will post. Cheers {Ed007's Note - Welcome to the site.}

Believable3 Unbelievable8

I agree mate . We didn't play well on Saturday and we do need a couple of ins and lots of outs . But one bad result does not a bad manager/team make . Keep the faith .
CelticMatt

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry mate but can't agree with your comments. This is not an over the top reaction to one poor defeat to St J. It's a culmination of events carried over from last year through pre-seaon leading to this. Majority of fans are not happy but as always we continue to pay season tix, merchandise and in the main support our club. As usual though we're taken for granted n the board more interested in P&L than SPL championship. Since Strachan was not allowed to spend £3M on Fletcher from Hibs we've been on a downward spiral and let that mob in. Our nearest rivals should have been Hearts, Utd etc but it's our own small mindedness that let them back in. The board are an absolute joke and have no aspirations to be big time. The league should have been the bare minimum over last 4 years and extended runs in europe a bonus. Think about it, we could and should have been nearing another 9 in a row. I'd love to see us qualify on thurs but even then it just papers over things. As for major signings dont see it happening and even if there is I doubt it's the ones we, the fans, want. It'll be money grabbers than self proclaim their love for our team only cause no one wants them. Board will think they've got it right of course

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with everything the last poster said. As for the original post, I totally disagree. The board play on our love for the team and lets be honest we have never had a good relationship with the hierarchy due to their spin doctor propaganda-why else employ Dr Reid?

Agree0 Disagree0

There is nothing we can do about upstairs. I agree its a shambles but lets be honest no big players r gona come to scotland. And If fletcher is what we r wanting then i think stokes and hooper are better players. The team has got better since mowbery even with the crooks upstairs. Just wait if we go trough and win the next couple league games like will prob happen then there will be a lot of ppl changing their view. Sorry i never posted a name after the first comment. Cheers

Skooter

Agree0 Disagree0

As long as the former player returning is not Cillian Sheridan

David

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree we wont win them all but surely win all at home and should be scoring every match at least as i have said not scoring two games in the trot at celtic park is embarrassing

Agree0 Disagree0

Hooper and stokes better than fletcher don't make me laugh just watch them go missing in any big game especially stokes where as fletcher is banging them in, in the premiership

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate if you think fletcher is better than what we have you dont have a clue. Hooper socre in the big games for us and stokes gets dropped in big games so you cant get on his back for not scoring in them. We should win all home games but even Barca lose and drop points and look
at there team.

Evening Ed, this lad Rhodes from Hudderfield looks the part do you know what theve been quoting for him? Scored 2 again 2nite.

Stu88. {Ed007's Note - The price getting spoke about is about the £1.5 million mark as far as I can find out Stu. There are teams in England are interested.}}

Believable9 Unbelievable3

Cheers Ed, Whats your opinion? I know everyone is clamouring for an experienced striker and we probably wnt be interested or get him. But imo i think hes a better option than ALF who i really dont rate as ive been keeping tabs on both players. And being a Scotland under 21 striker it just appeals to me.

Stu88. {Ed007's Note - I don't follow the lower leagues in England much Stu, but the English Eds rate Rhodes higher that ALF. They all say the same thing about ALF, lazy but can score.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think both players would be a great signing for celtic score week in week out in decent leagues where players have came out of and made a decent name for themselves

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2011 20:14:54
Hi....is it not possible we will not be signing anymore players ? I know everyone is speculating etc & what I really do NOT want is another freddie ljungberg or do what Rangers did with Diouf & be left with nothing more than a pantomine villian

Believable5 Unbelievable7

But he went away with a championship medal and cis cup 1 aswell, set up a rite few goals, scored for them in the uefa cup to get them past sporting lisbon, scored in the league too, the both partys were happy, getting decent players on loan from the premiership is a major coup.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't wait until he comes back then...he did fail to score the 1 goal he really wanted though

Agree0 Disagree0

Would laugh my backside off if he signed for Celtic. Don't paricularly like the guy or want him at the club but the rubbish surrounding him was always funny to hear about and read. Really would be a Celtic signing that would shock Scottish football (a message that I see on here from time).

Don't even think McCoist would be interested. Thought he was pretty average on the pitch for Rangers considering the fact he had a daily column in just about every newspaper.

Agree0 Disagree0

As I said..pantomine villain My point was, are we just going to take on loan whats left ? And, Diouf was in the Liverpool team Celtic beat on their way to Seville..some folk never learn. He was the other side for one reason only and it was all to do with Celtic (and they said Watty was all about the 'dignified' football) Ha...

Agree0 Disagree0

But he got them thru to the next stage of the uefa cup, plus won two medals, a dont get ur point? cos all the rangers fans loved him, and if u ask them or anybody up at rangers, ie walter, he'd say, well he was part of my team in my last year and helped us win the league and cup, so signing him on loan helped rangers no matter what we think of him,,,,,,

Agree0 Disagree0

I really don't think your fellow Gers' fans do want him back...and i'm not surprised you missed the point :)

Samuel Eto'o salary at Anzhi:
£17,000,000 per year
£1,458,333 per month
£364,583 per week
£52,083 per day
...

Believable13 Unbelievable7

Absolutelt obscene amount of money,but good luck to anybody if someone is stupid enuf to pay it

Agree0 Disagree0

Messi dont get anywere near that n hes best player on planet

Agree0 Disagree0

You say Messi... obviously Salim Kerkar slipped your mind

The Algerian Maradona

He deserves £17,000,000 a day

We Are All Salim Kerkar

Agree0 Disagree0

No chance of loaning him then? or maybe he could pay for a striker seeing as the board are too miserable

Agree0 Disagree0

It's actually £17.9m a year after tax which works out at £344,230 p/w.

Agree0 Disagree0

No wonder football is in the state its in. Mercenaries the lot of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2011 19:34:37
Just a personal opinion here, Celtic should go for big target man Marco Streller from FC Basel. The 6ft 5inc striker has a fantastic scoring record in the swiss league scoring 49 goals in 100 games also notching up plenty assist's along the way aswell. Come on celtic get your finger out and get new players in asap. Even Little Adam Le Fondre should surley be considered? Mon The Hoops =D.

Believable19 Unbelievable5

What a player celtic should sign him without a doubt great player get him for next to nothing

does anyone else believe that footballers greed is killing FITBA fifa should cap wages i.e..... E,TO... £200.000 a week FFS .if i could get his wages for a week i would retire {Ed007's Note - £375k a week it is, after tax.}

Believable17 Unbelievable2

Totally agree wae ye mate theres no level playing field anymore. a wage cap of 40k a week then u wouldnae get clubs being allsorts in debt to pay average players 100k a week when in reality are only worth about 15k a week canny wait till this fifa fair play thing comes in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunately there will never be a wage cap as the clubs, the big ten or 12 in Europe have a monopoly on winning everything as they can attract the biggest players ergo they keep winning everything. They have cornered the market and Scotland, the Scandanavian countries, Belgium even Turkey and Holland and the FYR I could go on have missed the boat. The last 4 in the champions league, certainly the last 8 are assured year after year. Its their ball and they wont give it up. They will find ways of loopholing the rules. They always have and they always will. UEFA circulate about ten clubs in and out of the CL to maintain a veneer of a balanced competition and a semblance of fairness but its all nonsense. Dont blame the players for taking the money. Blame the clubs, the monopoly they hold on the market and the nature of the game. Ie every club is a selling club. Lets face it football is not about participation, its about winning and to guarantee winning, to ensure your club is making money and getting the glory you need to make the commodity (the players) very expensive so that other clubs cannot use that commodity and stop your club winning.

Broony signed new deal. Announced on his Twitter late last night

"glad to announce I'll be staying a while longer, unfinished business anyone ????"

"thanks for the support & well wishes now lets bring back the trophy. Back the team the celtic way and YNWA #somethinginsidesostrong"

Jamesey Bhoy

Believable2 Unbelievable9

Get broony the phoney out, cant pass, cant tackle, cant score, doesnt set up goals, oh aye, he runs about for the hole 90 minutes......naw good enough for celtic, 25 grand a week, hasnt kicked a ball since his hibs days, thats bad news for us, am gutted about this bit of business, if true

Players player of the year 2009, unusual for someone who cant do anything according to some fans

Any idea who was on trial against Blackpool today in the reserve game?

Midfielder or winger.

1-0 win, Paul George.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Thought I'd get in thru the back door and get the name thru the Blackpool website but it doesn't ention any of our squad and the Celtic site just lists 'Trialist'
Bugger

However as the player didn't score I sure hope it wasn't a striker, but judging by the other personel listed I would say it was a midfielder (just what we need... NOT)

HH
/BB {Ed007's Note - The match was behind closed doors. I have asked Ed003(Blackpool fan, close to the club) if he can find anything out.}

Agree0 Disagree0

OP here. Yeah tried the same thing with Blackpool and used the same idea in terms of position as it's usually listed 4-4-2 but got nothing other than likely position.

Still haven't found anything out. Maybe just a youngster.

Other possibility is that Sanogo Boubacar was finally on trial after he had some tooth problem a few weeks ago {Ed007's Note - If Ed003 gets back to me with anything I will let you guys know right away.}

all the rumours are just that = "rumours" the reason lenny is strugling to bring decent players to paradise is top guys just dont want to play in our league the SPL sad but true

Believable12 Unbelievable1

The SPL needs major investment. I honestly wouldn't like to think about what state it could/will be in within the next 10 years. Unless wages and fees are capped in the EPL and the other top leagues our league will continue to suffer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats why cl qualification is crucial , that in itself is a major factor for incoming players

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see us qualifing for the cl unless we win the league but can't see that either after Sunday's performance shocking and too get beatin at home was awful

Agree0 Disagree0

True but the main reason is celtic arent giving neil any money need money to buy not his fault if celtic arnt playing well celtic better buy y the end of the transfer or its goodbye to the league

Agree0 Disagree0

If a job was on offer to you but another company offered ye 2/3 times the money what would you do.the spl isnae that bad ffs 2/3 more clubs start actually competing it would be pretty damn good.hate to say it but if foriegners with money were to buy these clubs it would make for a very good league indeed...

Good afternoon ed. Any new news on the farce that is fc sion being booted from the europa league? It would be embarrassing to go out to them on thursday but even more so if we go out, only to be put back in because of this. Surely it should be sorted before the team travel to Switzerland.
Ben Bhoy 1916 {Ed007's Note - Hi Ben, the situation is just the same, it depends who goes through. I think maybe UEFA are hoping CFC put them out to save them having to deal with it, although they will still face some form of punishment I would imagine.}

Believable6 Unbelievable1

I will watch with interest what happens UEFA talked the talk now lets see if they walk the walk. On a brighter note Maribor are querying Boccanegras eligibility(excuse the spelling) {Ed007's Note - That is regarding a UK work permit, that is more to do with employment law than FIFA/UEFA stature.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Looks like they want Celtic to put them out but if Sion go through expect Fifa to either fine them or throw them out of Europe. Had the same thought about Kayal but remembered that once the teams are in group phase they can play other players who played elsewhere in the qualifiers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Uefa headquarters are based in switzerland. they wont s**t in their own backyard, so sion will be fined and not thrown from the competition. but celtic hopefully make it null and void by getting the win we crave.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2011 16:57:21

Lets face it bhoys,none of the rumours posted this summer have had any foundation.Liam Ridgewell & Nadir Belhadj are the 2 latest 2 have had actual interest shown in them.Don't ever remember seeing anything about Dunne,Bianchi,de Nigris or Santa Cruz etc,basically,everything you've read/posted has been balls lol.

Believable18 Unbelievable5

Belhadj is a cracking player. I think we were linked with him last season too.

Bianchi was reported in Torino newspapers to be linked with us, De Nigris was reported in local newspapers wo be linked with us. And type in Santa Cruz on news search and we will be there... Get your facts straight ffs

I can't believe some of the rubbish some of our fans post about transfer targets. We are a club focused on plc objectives and not football priorities.

ed yesterday morning NL said that a striker would be signed in two days if i read it right,well we r nearly at the end of the second day and still not anything not even a rumour,me for one i think its just all talk,im hoping its not,so could u tell me if there is anything happening and is it imminent cheers Monty {Ed007's Note - It is hard to judge the time scale of transfers, Nasri had his medical at Man City on Thursday/Friday, Mancicni expected the deal to go through yesterday but that is it just being announced just now. Did NL actually put a time scale on anything?}

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Neil said "in the next few days".
Personally I think Celtic are waiting to see if they get into the next round of the Euro league. (Either on Thursday or by default on Friday if Sion are kicked out )

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes he said in the evening times a striker would be imminent in the next couple of days,im just gutted about the lack of ambition inside our club just now,as someone has already said its automatic champions league next year so why the lack of investment Monty {Ed007's Note - Sorry, I never saw the article}

automatic qualifiers for spl winners this season so surely we must speculate to accumulate bring a 3/4m striker and the same for a defender...ie 3m yakubu and 3m for ridgewell who can also play left back

Believable12 Unbelievable4

We all think no sorry we all KNOW we should do that but does our board?

Agree0 Disagree0

Why is everyone so obsessed with how much a player costs the only thing that matters is what he does when he gets here remember when lubo signed for us at the same time colin hendry signed for them for ten times the ammount lets just trust our manager to get the right type of player for our team whether its a free or costs 4 million

Agree0 Disagree0

Most good players cost money you cant always get players for free that are good enough or they wouldnt be free but im just saying as an example yakubu n ridgewell i wouyld be happy to get a murphy from motherwell and another good striker even if it cost 5m....we just need a striker in ASAP..
in lenny we trust

Agree0 Disagree0

Couldn't agree more mate the board need to get the finger out

GaryBhoy88

Agree0 Disagree0

If Rangers can sign Jelavic for £4million, we REALLY SHOULD be paying £3-5million for a striker we so desperately need.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liam ridgewell is a centre back and has no pace, yakubu is on the way down as are celtic, have been at 4 friendlies, 3 comp matches, all the same not enough quality,2 many changes being made, going backwards, lennoxtown now a hostal,were o were are all our young celts

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2011 14:19:58
ed do the winners of this seasons spl go straight into the group stages for the champions league which i think they do if so surely this is enough incentive to splash a bit of cash after all there is a few million in the champions league pot for the spl winners {Ed007's Note - Yes, winning the SPL will give automatic qualification to the CL}

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Sorry ed a think ur wrong, winners this year means just one qualifier to the cl next season {Ed007's Note - I might be wrong, but I don't have time to wade through the co efficients right now.}

Believable12 Unbelievable7

23 Aug 2011 13:19:07
what bothers me the most is that were waiting for the outcome of thursday before seeing how much we can spend. why not spend early so that we make sure we get in to the group and get the money.

Believable12 Unbelievable1

Totally agree with your point,also no more bargain beasment shopping,ok izzaguire and kayal have been great but how many have gone wrong ?we need a league winning signing

Agree0 Disagree0

I would love for Celtic to go out n spend big on quality players as soon as, as much as anybody else, buy what's the point of buying before Thursday, no more players can be registered for Europe until after Thursday's match.
I recon Celtic will go for someone from spl if we don't get through, cos we love a bargain, regardless of the quality of the player.
Nickybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2011 12:00:46
i think its clear to see were we need to strengthin , and its obvious lennon is waiting on thursdays outcome before spending , just have faith in the club you love and support, it will happpen in lennon we trust,

Believable9 Unbelievable12

Point is though that we look horrendous up front without Hooper and a striker should have been brought in and registered for the game against Sion. Instead we registered a goalkeeper who, in my opinion, is not as good as Zaluska. It was a quality centre forward we should have registered. We always ran the risk of this problem because there was no decent back up to Hooper and Stokes. We had plenty of time to sign a striker but we didn't and now our hesitancy might have cost us Europe... again Samaras, Maloney or Murphy are gonna have to shine in Switzerland if we're gonna get through.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well it cant be murphy cos he aint registered in the european squad, its all down to the board, balance sheet before the team

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree, but really hope we are NOT waiting for Bellamy, that really would be a great disappointment.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why the hell would he be waiting till thursdays outcome,thats the hole point is to do well in europe is it not,they new long before now about what to spend,there just not going to simple,and u must be one of a very few minority who has faith in them who dont care about us,as has been said balance sheet before team

Agree0 Disagree0

Is rasmussan registered he would do a job cos i dont reckon sion are any good

Agree0 Disagree0

Sion might not be good but neither is rasmussen

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2011 10:53:16
I think its obvious that we really need a centre back so personally I would go for Sebastian Bassong. He would be available for around 2m and if we offloaded Murphy and Hooiveld then that would pay his wages. As for a striker I think we should sign Jamie Murphy and Johnny Russell, great potential with both of them and they would be reliable players to bring on if Hooper or stokes were to get injured. I could have mentioned more expensive players but I think we're all used to the board not spending and the players I mentioned are surely in the boards price range.

Believable13 Unbelievable10

Not sure we need a center half or that we could afford Bassong. Murphy I would like to see at Parkhead, Johnny Russel no thanks. Not shown that he's a centre forward to my mind.

David

Agree0 Disagree0

Murphy and Russell should stay where they are ,signings like these will give rangers 4 in a row and there's automatic qualification to champs league with a probable 15 m ,am I missing something?

Agree0 Disagree0

Deluded...he would cost atleast £5million but I would LOVE us to sign him either permanently or on loan.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2011 10:30:57
We are crying out for a goal scorer Been giving this a little thought when we got Larsson he was a fallen star someone that had a bright start to his career but never reached the hights many thought he would That was till he joined us and developed into the world class player we all know and love So I was thinking what's everyone's opinion on Vagner Love? He showed so much potential in his early years but has faded away the last few years he's only 26 and and CSKA Moscow have loaned him out the past few seasons Put a cheeky 2million bid in for him with the chances we create he would score a barrel load. Just a thought

Gazcfc21

Believable19 Unbelievable8

Thats not a bad idea. He would certainly score goals in the spl. I still want skippy back along with Le Fondre or Jamie Murphy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not heard too much about him in a few years but I remember him being a rising star. That's not a bad shout.
Chrissybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Good shout for love but no way murphy or mcdonald

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember he broke the hearts of the Govan wasters in Europe a number of years ago

Agree0 Disagree0

Skippy is injured anyway guys so lets stop going on about him and he had his time.. time for new blood to make a name for themselves. We shouldnt be going for ALF either its european pedigree with touch of class we need to compete in europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

Might be wrong but i think love play regularly for cska moskva so no chance for a couple of million

Agree0 Disagree0

Not what we need imo. He's not tall enough and we are crying out for a tall CF. Plus add to the fact he's Brazilian and, imo, South American footballers don't really seem to do too well in Scotland.

Bunny Munro

Agree0 Disagree0

He is brazillian but hes been in europe for many years and if he can deal with russia he can deal with our weather. think he is definately worth a punt

Agree0 Disagree0

I would take love if we could get him he would be a class apart from the mediocre strikers that we have just now

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that's a good shout, n I disagree with the fact that he's not tall is reason enough not to sign him, hooper isn't tall n he's a proven goal scorer. I think he would be phenomenal for us.
Nickybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

That's one of the best posts in a while, good shout. I hope people agree with me here as I am fed up with all this (get a tall striker) rubbish some of the best football was play last year with stokes and hooper, why? Because they were smaller players and was no reason to play root one. Now samy is playing the football has stoped and back to root one again same when murphy plays too.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2011 10:30:46
the only player we're missing is kayal he brings structure to the team, i think if it was just izzy and hooper out we could have won the last 2 games

Believable10 Unbelievable6

If that's the case then what the point in all the midfielders we have?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we could have won the last two games any way. We missed a penalty on Sunday and even on Thursday we just need a bit more thunder

David

Agree0 Disagree0

Kayal didnt make any difference at the inverness defeat last year or Izzy or hooper (i think he played too)

Would love this to happen, hope it really does but cant see it.

Why on earth would we need Ireland or Fyvie? We have a team full of midfielders as it is.

I expect only one more signing. A top class stiker (possibly de nigris) and maybe either Murphy or ALf, but not both.

In terms of outs Loovens us injured so going no where. Hooiveld is a possibility, Maloney to Blackpool? dont you mean McCourt. Slane is a possible but more likely to england. Murphy and Sammi possible but not both
