Im disappointed with this guy being appointed manager (as by all accounts its done and dusted) i'm not disappointed with they guy himself as I don't know much about him or if he will be any good at the job. i'm disappointed at the fact I now cannot have a proper rant about how this appointment is pants and how he only got the job because he is dermots gardners sisters mate (as far as I know anyway) or how he was Peter Houston because everyone else said no or because he was an otherwise proven rubbish manager like all the previous bookies favorites. i'm now going to have to give him the benefit of the doubt and wait and see how he does before judgement. This is just not the celtic way!

Pull your tongue out your cheek mate! Nice to see you posting again Evinguu

I am quietly confident this guy is the real deal, the style of play that he promotes looks to be exciting. Can't wait to see the finished article.

Could it be that our new manager to be, was picked up when we were looking at Johanson (spelling). If the reports coming back were how good the football their team was playing, then possibly they have re looked at who was the manager.

just a thought.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That seems to be the story, Lenny saying he was to come in as No2 when Big Dolph left in the news today.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice of him to tell us! Could've made a few bob!

A change of subject read last week Everton are interested in Forrest with 7m being the price quoted by the papers does anyone else think we should cash in as that's probably the most we would get for him and he's injury prone. Would like the money to be used in getting Snodgrass and Anya that's just my opinion what's everyone else's?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would take it.Has not developed at all from his breakthrough and does seem to be injury prone.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not a bad shout that

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I would sell him but I think we would get nearer 3m for him. Try and make an ambitious move for Snodgrass.

Agree0 Disagree0

Please say you're winding us up with Anya!

Marky

Agree0 Disagree0

Take the money and run. He's not developed much if any since he burst onto the scene.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2014 12:48:27
Agreed don't think we would get 7m for him would bite anyone's hand off for that though! What's wrong with Anya he's probably Scotlands biggest threat in internationals with his pace, we could do with someone like that in Europe if we are pushed back punt it up to him to get us up the pitch

Ed with ronny looking likely do you think john park is being given more control and that is why we have ended up at ronny as none of the other candidates wanted their managerial duties diluted?it just seems strange to sign cg days before a manager is appointed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Could Park have any more power than he has already? That's why I can't see him leaving for Norwich, no other club would give him the power of influence he has at CFC.}

@ED; any idea just how much control he has? Surely the manager must have the final say on transfers? Having said that a few clubs do work with a buyer and a coach with both roles clearly defined.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It seems that Lawwell trusted Park more than he did NL when it came to players.}

Do you consider Park's influence to be a bad thing Ed? I think he's one of our biggest assets

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I think Park is great at his job of finding players but the final decision on who gets signed should be down to the manager, it's his job that's on the line at the end of the day. Look at the shambles with Dalglish and Barnes, Barnes got sacked and Dalglish took over when both of them should have been hunted, the manager not having a say has been a major problem at Chelsea for years now and a lot of managers throughout Spain and Italy over the years have blamed their failures on not having control of who to buy and sell.}

I think if Deilia and Park have a very similar view on players, things could work out ok .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Did you work that one out all by yourself? 10/10 for stating the bleeding obvious, Chris.}

Cheers ed, I personally think the club needs to be a lot clearer now about everyone's role in transfers. Did JP identify targets or did JP identify and sign players as it's fair to say he seems to get credit for wanyama hooper etc which is fine but what about balde pukki boerighter etc does that not tarnish him because NL took stick for them when perhaps he shouldn't have?

Agree0 Disagree0

If JP is short listing and the adding to the squad he can't simply get the praise when it goes well and the manager gets it in the neck when the players are below standard. I guess we would all like a job like that!

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2014 13:03:34
I think that was probably the case with Pukki and Balde with Park having the influence on them being signed as Lennon never didn't seem to have them in his plans particularly Blade who at best for most of the season was making cameo appearances from the bench

Ed who dyou fancy for assistant manager J Collins been mentioned, knows the spfl scene and got the Celtic connection

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - If Collins knew so much he would have a job.}

So al take that as a no!

Agree0 Disagree0

Defo has to be willie mcstay as no 2

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye it seems a long time since John Collins was involved with a club . W McStay could be a good shout .

A Manager we've never heard of from the Norwegian league and a goalkeeper that hasn't played in a wee while.

Both a gamble and I'm not sure where I stand on it all.

How do we judge Ronny (I keep saying Ronaldinho in my head) this season - league, CL qualification, EL qualification, treble?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jun 2014 19:57:36
I refuse to berate or celebrate any manager until I have seen results over a decent period. As for Gordon a few years ago I would have taken him, if he's back great. With all, time will tell.

Agree0 Disagree0

Giving the time frame he would have to work in if we get cl group stages i'd consider that a success,

Agree0 Disagree0

PL had flown over to Norway to then fly back with Ronny!
Looks like it's happening Mrs E.
I'm also not sure what to make of it all?
I'm all for a new approach, looks like we could be getting it, just not in the way we thought it might happen!
No matter who the board appointed it was always going to be a gamble, given the way they are reluctant to release decent funds for decent players.
This is going to be a master stroke or a disaster, no in between! And I'd love for it to pan out amazingly.
John Collins is never a manager but similar to Clarke, a good coach, his knowledge on coerver coaching is unreal and it's the way forward, not the old guard tika taka :)
Hopefully they work together well if it turns out that way.

It's been a while since the fans have totally turned on the board, hopefully this isn't another, but when needs must!

Agree0 Disagree0

I won't berate him Shuggy and most definitely wish him every success. I'm just apprehensive :-/

Deep River Bhoy, qualifying for CL was always considered a success. I still remember the night Neil Lennon qualified for the first time, a great night at Celtic Park.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with DRB, time is short to form a judgement. For me the most important thing is win the league and start playing a more modern game with a path to the first team for youth.I read he is a great believer in squad rotation, another thing we have lacked for a few years.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd be delighted if it works out John :-)

I just don't get all the FIFA 14 analysis, a bit of reality would be good.

I first seen John Collins mentioned on here last night, he could be good. It's all just the unknown but I suppose its not the first time it's happened. Throwing Craig Gordon in just made me more uneasy lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Hopefully we get into Champions League but it will be hard, new manager and no Celtic Park for our first two qualifying rounds

Your post has as much fact as mine gj but the fact still stands if they weren't happy with Lenny, as your contacts are saying from in side cp they must of known for a hell of a long time they were to get rid of him then, so if your contacts are right they had more than enough time to put the wheels in motion so ther wasn't this circus around the club I love and travel nearly a thousand miles each home game too see, but the argument I make is this is about money but only time will tell

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's been two whole weeks calm the feck down, the media create the circus, my god the summer we waited for Jansen now that was a circus

Agree0 Disagree0

No contacts mate just chatter among Tims i'm afraid. Mentioning money kinda defeats your argument though, we are in a place were we can't just throw cash at any problem. This is why the appointment excites me, every comment from people who know the guy suggest he will play fast, pressing football and is not scared to throw youth into the mix.Have we not been crying out for this?

Agree0 Disagree0

Mallybhoy I will take your advice and calm down, gj I read all your views on here and to tell the truth I agree with 99 percent of what you post the last thing I want is to argue with fellow tims it's just it f;;;ing gets to me that a club the size of Celtic should be more efficient and transparent, leave the deceit and secrets to the mob over the city

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with gj I'm looking forward to seeing good attacking football back at parkhead and with the added bonus of maybe a couple of young players getting the chance they deserve

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree GJ, I'd rather have had a known name, (record irelavant as the better the record we would have had no chance of getting) but I'm hopeing this guy and his/the boards team smash it.
Unfortunately money is going to be needed, the guys done well with none but nobody will be pleased with no CL football and the longer it goes the harder it gets!
Great news for the youngsters given the way our game is, Pukki might even turn into a goal machine, unfortunately for Balde it'll still be no!

Agree0 Disagree0

Adzactly who's to say the likes of puki and boerigter won't shine under this new style of play here hopeing

I'm getting p"ssed off with all the bullsh"t that mr Desmond and lawell and co expects us to swallow they have known for a long time that Lenny was going I would say the same length of time as they knew of big mjallby was off personally I would say exactly the same time, but they are willing for this circus too drag on, the fact is and I've said it before the only person we will attract is a manger that wants the cl on his cv so he can move down south to the first or championship, Lenny has left becouse he was told ther is no money for him to buy, I don't have to remind yous all of the sh"t he has put up with in the hot seat and he did not leave us so this goes to show how bad it is, I hope I'm wrong but I don't think my passport will be getting used for the next few years

Believable0 Unbelievable0

How do you know Lenny left because of no spending? Anyone can guess mate but the fact is no one knows for sure. I was told certain people inside Celtic were unhappy of the style of play we produced, and I find that to be more plausible.

Last season we had two genuine exciting displays, Hertz and Murderwell away, what did Lenny do? He changed the team! Would you say that was wise? I go to every game and some displays were bloody awful, no pace and sadly lacking in genuine skill.This is why crowds were down, nothing to do with sevco or anything else.

I supported Lenny, and admired his refusal to back down despite appalling sectarian events, but did he really develop as a coach? Do the team and their style excite you? As I have posted before Ajax away was horrendous.It has not got really much better since.

Agree0 Disagree0

GJ stop kiddin youself on, crowds are down precisely because sevco are missing, the guys I go with all think the same no competition, no edge, no rivalry, no fear. And if you think the fitba this year was pish ad loved your opinion with the fare on show in the early 90s now that was pish

Agree0 Disagree0

The English tim, if your going to visit Celtic Park next season you will need to use that passport sooner than you think.
After September you`ll need to produce it at border control.

Agree0 Disagree0

@MallyBhoy: Not kidding myself at all mate.I support Celtic, not Celtic when we play sevco. If we had been playing great football and putting teams to the sword attendances would have been up.

Another thing to contend with is the fair weather fan.I have always said we have a hard core of around 18-25 thousand who will support the team no matter what, for me that number is a constant, even back to the dreadful days of the past.

Agree0 Disagree0

We have no idea if it was just the standard of football that caused crowds to fall. As many Celtic fans travel long distance the recession and austerity methods imposed by governments may also have been a factor .

I buy the s*n every day, have done for years, but today I'm a little sickened with the paper and it's 6 page spread on the possible new celtic manager.
rubbishty journalism written to please the blue zombie crowds.
I'm now away to email offcom a complaint.

P's I wouldn't be surprised if the guy turns us down now, not even in the job and the press are having a pop at him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And why do you buy that garbage "news"paper? I never understand why people buy that, the ibrox gazette or the star. There's never any news in them and no better than the Metro!

Agree0 Disagree0

And why on earth would any Celtic fan buy that tawdry rag? In fact why would any human being buy it? It is the worst example of tabloid 'journalism' there is.

Amid all the speculation around RD, personally I think he ticks most of the boxes. The only issue I would have is the league he is coming from. I would be looking for a coach who had managed at SPFL level at least, and had success in this league, and by that I mean silverware. I don't think he would be recruited unless there was an experienced DOF in place also. I really like the idea of bringing a coaching and management team from outside the SPFL that would bring a freshness to the place.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So you would have been against Jansen and Lennon then? They never managed in the SPL. I expect his second in command will have knowledge of the game here.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Let's just hope he isn't planning on bringing his assistant David Nielsen from Stromsgodset.}

@ED007: Interesting thought. Maybe the guy is someone he trusts to work the players hard as our fitness concerned me a few times last season. I don't think he will operate that way tbh I think he might go for some knowledge of our game. Your thoughts ED?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The guy's a wrong 'un, from match-fixing to assaulting players, I can't even say what his own nickname for himself is!}

GJ, I was never enamoured with either of the above when they first arrived.

Agree0 Disagree0

@ED: Did he inherit this 'wrong un' or bring him in? I find it odd the negativity, all be it small, from some fans.Surely Garcia, who I liked the look and sound of, would have been the same gamble? Or were some people clouded by the 'Barca' factor?

This is our chance, and at the moment it is only a chance, to move the whole club forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - He brought him in last October/November, he might get Deila's job now but nothing is certain either way yet.}

05 Jun 2014 10:40:48
Good poll today ed. I'm ashamed to say I was one of the fans that wanted Strachan gone. I think it's only since he left that I've realised what master tactician he is. Don't get me wrong he wasn't perfect but I do think he was treated unfairly.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jun 2014 12:03:34
Always liked Strachan as a person, still do, but his remit was to get the squad younger and cheaper, which he did achieve on a shoestring budget. Despite his success, we were dire to watch (and don`t get me started on that zonal marking).

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a genuine football man and has obviously studied the game and brought us great success while undergoing a financial somersault at the club.
He did manage to attract some really good players in the process.
His last season was poor and the team were dire to watch and the gutless games in the SPL against Rangers will always stick in my mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

I liked Strachan but I felt he left at the right time. We had to win our last 2 games of the season to win the league and we couldn't even score a goal. That was unacceptable for me and just confirmed that we needed a change. Too bad it was Mowbray!

Agree0 Disagree0

It appears manager of Celtic is such a high stress job, that after about four years the manager is completely wore out and needs a break. Maybe the media intrusion and pressure from SFA takes the toll.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not just the media, the fans also have a part to play. I fully admit to being a bit fickle at times depending on results. even if results are going our way, I want better football. I think sometimes change is just needed after 3 or 4 years. I wanted lennon to stay another year but I can understand why a lot of fans wanted him gone. It's about shaking up the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jun 2014 10:17:56
So far it's been an awkward game of pass the parcel, with there being a new stick on manager every day. It's just the bookies and the papers keeping it interesting. I've still got a feeling it'll be someone who hasn't been stick on yet.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was on the Celtic official website doing my daily catch ups of all things Celtic and I couldn't believe what they are trying to sell to the Celtic fans now they are offering the fans/customers a piece of the hallowed turf at the crazy price of £49 I think this absolute disgrace and a total rip off the piece of turf is tiny and they should actually be giving it away for free but being a Celtic fan you don't get anything for free at our club. Rant over for now anyway!

It's beginning to look more likely that Delia is the man. I was just wondering if there would be any chance to get Clarke as his assistant, given his experiences in Europe with Chelsea and Liverpool I think I would be happy with that.
