Guys, just regarding finbogasson!

I think this guy is a total class act, and would love to see him in the famous green and white hoops, but John park says he ain't worth the money that is being asked of him! Are you kidding? This guy scores goals for fun! Penalty box poacher is exactly what we need at this club!

All I seem to hear is excuses from park and the board so it would really suggest that this guy is not going to be on the books come September the 2nd!

Why? Has to be penny pinching! If we got this guy at the price quoted we would be getting a bargain and I dare say when moved on will go for more than double the amount we pay for him! its a no brainer, a cracking bit of business waiting to happen, sooooo, what's the problem? CL qualification? Yes I know we are in a rotten league and if the guy doesn't want to come then fair enough I can appreciate the guy not wanting to play in Scotland! But this is every year, and if we beat karagandy and qualify which I think we will then I can see the same thing all over again, 3 guys we have never heard of, one of which a loan deal and it's sad to think that the club you love so much is leaving us all high and dry even though we pump out good hard wages into the club week in and week out!

We as fans need to speak out about this, but we won't!
We as fans need to let the board know that this stupid policy of guaranteeing cl qualification 1st is the way forward, because it's not, we are on the brink of not qualifying due to the tight fisted board not bringing in adequate replacements so we can get into the competition in the 1st place!

Again, the great name that is Glasgow celtic is being tarnished by a club so far below us in European rankings, and what do the board do? Give Lennon a "bumper deal" for one year (yes I like Lennon and I stand by him as he has celtic in his blood) but when will the board take notice that without funds (which we do have) being invested in good playing staff, this great club will soon struggle to even make the stage we are at just now!

Love the site ED posted once of twice in the past but forgotten username and log in, still I will not leave my post nameless. Keep up the good work big man, best newspaper iv read in years haha

Albhoy188867 {Ed007's Note - Thanks very much.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It was just typical tabloid nonsense without any quotes. "Out sources understand John Park feels he isn't worth £5m" aye no problem! 6 goals in 4, get him bought Peter! Plus I read he rejected Heerenveens contract offer
Kevbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Shut up! Did you ever think they say he is not worth the money as to have them drop thier price as we act like we are moving on? We all just heard of the guy recently and you say he will leave for 10mill, look into the future did you? What about wanyama, we only got 12 for him and he is a superstar yet you know we can get 10 for a striker in spl. We really is just you, yes we would like to sign the guy and others and should have had a good striker in but we have brought in class players. And we are and have been bidding/spending more then normal this year. Sick of this board and Lennon bullshiat, it's the samething every day, they can't make people join us

Agree0 Disagree0

Albhoy 188867 Understand your frustration's but you answered your own question IF the boy does Not want to come, do you pay over the odd's for him, you are entitled to your opinion but I will listen to John Park's opinion first, if he say's he isn't worth the money that will do for me.
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Tambhoy, our track record of strikers with john park isn't great. who scouted bangura, miku, lassad, brozek?(and if my memory serves me it was jim melrose who reccomended hooper) and of all the strikers we have had in this time and been linked to this window this boy has the best scoring rate (a goal in 1.6 games) is 5 million too high for a guy who has scored 30 in 35 games in a better league than ours? (currently 17 ahead of the spl in uefa rankings),,, deep river bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree with John Park on this one. Celtic should be pushing the boat out to get this guy, he just scored another 2 against Ajax and would bang the goals in for the club. Would maybe be the difference in getting through the champions league group stage again if the club get there.

Agree0 Disagree0

I didn't think we should be paying above the £3.5m initial estimate for the guy. When I read our club offered £4m and couldn't get him I stood by the club. We just don't spend that kind of money any more, its huge. However, since the debacle in Kazakhstan and recent showings, we desperately need this lad. Yes he is a good striker, its a nonsense to say otherwise. And this year we do have money.
If things don't go well next week, we still have Europa. I would want to win that! Fans need to show up and fill the seats to fund these moves also. I urge everyone to get there next week and get behind our great club in our great arena, Paradise, that we own outright.

Finnbogason 2 goals again tonight against Ajax, exactly what we need Peter & Dermot, Celtic need quality players to improve first team not squad players, no way this boy go for 5 million now prob double that the way he banging them in, sick of trying to get players on cheap, fans deserve a player like this in the hoops, understand we can't spend £20 million but come on this boy should have been signed in summer, can't see us bringing in a proven goalscorer at all to be honest, hopefully iam wrong & hate to be negative but just think board have a lot to answer for & love Lenny but he a yes man to the board

Believable0 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2013 22:35:09
We've missed the boat with this guy and I'm feckin raging, you just need to watch him and you can see he's a natural born finisher and 5 million would of secured him, I honestly believe this guy would of been our best signing since the king of kings, we will end up with another Rasmussen or Bangura and another wasted 2million. Stevie

Agree0 Disagree0

Do we really know what's going on? Has the boy stated he would play here? Maybe he's waiting to see if we reach the CL? The other thing that puzzles me is why are no other clubs in for him? With his scoring record you would have thought an premiership mid range would go for him.It's all getting very strange this transfer. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

B0llox. It's not a supermarket where you just go in and pick what you want. Af looks like he's about to go on everybody's radar. Actually, top marks to celtic for spotting him before the bloated epl gluttons staggered to the table.

Finnbogason has already scored another 2 goals tonight against Ajax.

Come on Celtic, never mind looking at all these average cheap strikers and get this boy in before a European Giant gets him in.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why have they not made their move then?. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

@1 what would you do if you were him? He's 24, good enough to bang em in, in dutch league like that. HL was struggling in that league when we got him, but still walked from us a multi millionaire. I think AF could do the same but now these guys can make 100m and the agents run the show.

Now the SFA must act . Maybe even the law . After Snideys pantomine act with the blank pages of paper yesterday claiming he knew of players and officials who regularly bet on football games comes claims from an ex player now journalist (snigger) saying he knows for a fact that several senior games were decided before a ball was kicked . This is criminal and must be investigated as soon as . Isn't Snidey bringing the game into disrepute with his claims Mr Lunny . Shouldn't the said journalist (snigger) be removed from his job as he committed a criminal act? . I smell another internal enquiry from the SFA with the outcome " there is not enough hard evidence and we believe no wrongdoing was committed " . DH

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It goes way farther and deeper than just a few games, DH. Outside of a phony enquiry (standard modus operandi of the system) what we'd end up with is people having to arrest themselves, it is that corrupt. pea

Agree0 Disagree0

I watched the Wolves v Crawley match - decent game and one that wouldn't have disgraced the bottom half of the SPL. Doyle set up the first for Wolves - a mazy run into the box and a chipped cross for Sigurdason to nod home. Griffifths came off the bench to score a last-minute penalty for the winner which was very similar to Commons' against Aberdeen - power over placement. Either of them would do a job for Celtic in the SPL.

A little thought about Boerrigter.
I'm sure he's a nice lad but he seems to be following the same path with us that he did at his previous club. Always bloody injured. Is he made of glass?
And irrespective of his talent and potential and ability, what use is he to us if we can't field him regularly? We need someone with his talent and potential and ability on the pitch because the last time I looked no player has ever set up or scored a goal from the bench or the treatment room.

Hail Hail
ChrisBhoy {Ed007's Note - He has had one serious recurring injury that has been sorted Chris, every player will pick up niggling knocks. How long was Brown out, or Commons, are they considered made of glass?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed I'm sure you'll agree that some players require a mental "fix" as well as a physical one. The footballing world is full of players who recover physically but get so afraid of doing it again it hampers their recovery to a level they were previously at. I'm wondering if Boerrigter could be one of them. I sincerely hope not because he has shown flashes of real ability when he has played.

Hail Hail
ChrisBhoy {Ed007's Note - It was his back Chris so it's not like he has should have lost his 'bottle' to go in for a 50-50 (Izzy??). I know what you mean but I am hoping more for an RVP type of recovery, his career was stop/start up until the season before he joined Man Utd. After years of being labelled injury-prone it was a trip to the dentist to remove his wisdom teeth that finally sorted out his long-term problem(s).}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he was really unlucky with the injury.Not a thing he could do about it.The good thing is I thought he really looked good until then. If he plays we need someone to attack the ball in the box, Balde?. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes GJ, I think we should give Balde a go next week alongside Stokes (who, incidentally, I'm not a big fan of because he can't be arsed to give it his all if he doesn't feel like it).

Just noticed that Celtic have reversed the decision to close 'section 111' after 'extensive and positive talks with supporters groups' and the G.B. will not be dispersed.
I really hope the safety issues will be heeded and any unsavoury incidents eliminated.
The club has always been under scrutiny from many sources with varying agenda's, so safety and conduct are very high profile issues especially in Europe and we face serious sanctions if there are any further infringements.
I don't know if this was resolved with the vital second leg next Wednesday in mind or not? But whether a marriage of convenience or a watershed in club - supporters relations, I think both parties appreciate the need for a full-house and our unique adrenalin-pumping atmosphere to help the team as much as possible at a 'make or break' CL game.

OK so its in the Daily Record so its hardly credible, however let's say for arguements sake that the Karagandy manager says he studied celtics games and found a serious flaw which he exploited and intends to again next week so he wouldn't tell us what it was (shrewd guy). SO let's just examine the possibilities
1) IZZY - I have amongst others being saying this is the position which all clubs seek to exploit. He bombs forward and doesn't get back and is positionally suspect and can be a bomb scare. Teams always look for the diagonal ball behind the left back area of celtic. That would be my guess.
2) Balls in to the box - Foster doesn't come of his line for 6ft 7 he's the big shrinking goalie. Long throws included, he should be catching it as he has long enough to see it projecting over from the shy line.
3) ZONAL marking - not a fan of it and we don't do it well even back to the Strachan era.

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To be honest mate all three are something of a problem for us.My thoughta are:
#1 We have to assume he is doing this on Lenny's orders or he would not get a game.Why has he never been tried at Left midfield if we want to utilise his attacking? This would work with a good left back who is just there to defend.
#2: A huge frustration this. Forster is SIX FOOT SEVEN FFS! Three men on the line and him coming to punch or catch would surely nullify any long throw? As you say he has long enough to see it in the air.
#3: Never liked it.It only works if you have at least three centre backs that are totally dominant in the air.Even then a clever runner will cause a problem. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

I couldn't kick a door at halloween but could tell you izzy is a liability, playing samaras as a striker is a waste of time and liability also playing mulgrew anywhere but cb in the hope of a free kick, playing two centre backs as a pairing one of which has hardly kicked a ball for 3 years and another who has 30 odd minutes of play since returing from injury, leaving your top scorer out and then bringing a strker on with 8 minutes of play left are more flaws and playing young forrest no matter how his form or fitness are is another . any jobs going at the record ps I love succulent lamb,,, deep river bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest he wouldn't have had to look far for an area to attack as we supplied a nice, brand new one ready made for him.

Two not match fit centre backs playing together for the first time. I think I could have exploited that one.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have posted many a time about Celtic’s defence, if I can see it having never played football or managed any team then I’m sure its there for any Manager to see. The comedy defending under Neil Lennon is farcical now.

We rely on possession and a strong midfield which is not a terrible thing if it works but on Wednesday it did not and we now have a 2 goal deficit. Zonal marking is a no no, I’m not a fan at all and is definitely something our defenders are nowhere near good enough for. Just mark your man and get close! ~ Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

It doesn't take a tactical genius or football guru to find our weakness's.
But it takes common sense to sort them out and hopefully Lennon has some?

Big week ahead, by this time next week we could be in the CL with a strengthened squad and on our way to a domestic treble or we could be dumped into Europa League, 6 points behind in he league and waiting to sign someone like Simon Cox on loan on deadline day. I started this window very upbeat and optimistic and there is still time for it to pan out well but I'm beginning to get a wee bit nervous. A good window for me would see us bring in Ciani and Pukki. With Boerigter fit, I reckon we would be looking good. ALso want to see Atajic and McGeogh getting more SPL time at least. PS Haven't seen anything anywhere about the Nolan Roux move-would be great signing if true. Daviebhoy77

we are not all stuck in 1*90 land!

we can't be held to account for them and we also didny defraud anyone we are just fans like you lot

off to sleep got a revolution to start. enjoy the one horse canter. george

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think what you will find is we are sick to the back teeth of the 'poor us' attitude among the VAST majority of sevco fans George.

There were warnings about Murray from various people.These were ignored as domestic success was pretty much guaranteed and big signings were being made.Money was swirling around ibrox and everyone had a finger in the pie.All your so called rangers men, and I include the blessed cardigan in this, knew the fiscal problems but said nothing as they were being well rewarded. The fans could be cut slack as they were kept in the dark and winning.Thats all 99% of fans want after all.

Then Murray put the club up for sale.Why sell a business that seemed like a guaranteed money maker? The facts were laid out for the fans but were ignored.It was us Jealous Tims at it.But still there was a reluctance to ask awkward questions.
When it became clear no one was interested in buying a huge club like rangers still no fan asked any questions.Murray, by now desperate to sell due to a recession affecting his main business, needed someone to come in and do what he was afraid to.That as we all know was administration.

When Whyte arrived, and despite warnings which were ignored because it was more jealousy from Timmy, you bought into the whole 'off the radar wealth' nonsense. This was despite the details of Whyte's business career being freely available to anyone who looked.I do not recall ONE dissenting voice among the rangers support.I include all the attention seeking rangers bloggers and your pathetic supporters groups. Not one question was asked despite the evidence being there for all to see.He was practically carried down Edmiston Drive!

When Whyte took the step to enter administration, again you were all well warned this was coming, there seemed to be a movement wanting to know how this could happen.The same people who told you about the admin then told you it was too late, you would be liquidated.Incredibly your support adopted the same position as it did with the administration warnings.You told us to go away Timmy nothing to see here.The rangers were to big to die, and let's call a spade a spade here that's what your club did.

Then came chuckles! I will not go into too much detail here, just read back and change some names as the attitude was the same.Your support were warned this guy was an asset stripper.But the most incredible thing is this.HE HAD DONE MUCH THE SAME THING TO ANOTHER CLUB! And you all bought into his 'no surrender' and making the tea routine.

Since Chuckles bought the assets of the defunct club it has been nothing but whining and bitching about a variety if things. The fact the SFA even shoehorned the new club into the league was ignored.Jeeze, they even tried to get you into the SPL! From mccoists'who are these people' rants to marching to empty buildings and threatening to burn a ground down, it has went on and on. Only a couple of weeks ago your CEO demanding answers regarding a fine YOUR LAWYERS ASKED FOR!

Good luck to you on a personal level though. I do not know you or your stance on things I hated about the old club. What I do know is that their fans could have done so much more, The IPO proved that.You needed a leader and a figurehead. When we were in trouble influential Celts went about affecting change. The Keane family put up £1m to stave off the creditors with the chance they would never see it again.Thats real tangible passion for your club

We got Fergus. You got McMurdo Graham and Leggat. And let's not forget your manager in this.that ibrox 'legned' He has supported Whyte and Green. Although all those shares at 1p per share, if the rumours are true, did not make his mind up!. green jhedi

Absolutely spot on Jhedi, hated all that "timmy" and Lawwells sfa fault, nothing to do with us, and you all kicked us when we were down shahite. Sfa have bent over backwards to assist them

I really really really really really hope this new club whatever they are called, newco, sevco or the rangers DIE. Ed I can remeber typing a word in capitals (like die as above)and you told me to stop shouting, I've not shouted since, but this guy george(sevco) is constantly shouting and nowt said?, ., .KBARRY {Ed007's Note - The odd words in capitals is ok to emphasise your point mate, it's posts that are all in caps that are classed as 'shouting'.}

Just can't understand why we signed blade for £2.5 million. Obviously, Lenny doesn't trust him, as he wouldn't have played Samaras up front, instead of on the wing, last Tuesday.

If he is for the SPL, then we could've got Russel for £750k. Doesn't make sense. Hope on Wednesday that we start with two strikers, stokes and blade, with Sammy and James on the wings, mulgrew( he's not a mdfielder) with Virgil at centre half. Although, we lost and didn't play well, we created five or six clear cut chances and shakter are for the taking, we will still need to score 4 though.

Here's hoping, RoyAitken

Ps thanks to those who have passed on their best wishes to me, now in remission and will be posting again soon on kds, with regards to st Mary's hall and pics to follow

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think you will find he went for £750 thousand, but to celtic the price was£1.5 million for Russell. I agree with the sentence about Mulgrew he isn't a mid-fielder he is a corner and free kick taker END of. He's journeyman at best for SPL.

For Balde aren't you getting your Pounds and Euros mixed up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey RawAchin! We wouldn't have got russel for 750k mate, don't you listen or just don't understand? Russells pish, ., .kbarry

Ed007 - I would welcome your feedback on this issue. Do you believe that I have been unfair to Neil Lennon, Peter Lawell or both?

I don't believe that any reasonable minded supporters expect Celtic to compete successfully in the latter stages of European competition. In my opinion finances in the modern day game dictate otherwise.

However I do believe it is reasonable for Celtic supporters to expect that the people responsible for running our club carry out their duties with due diligence and act in a professional manner at all times. I believe that has not been the case in recent times to the extent that it is impacting on our chances of progressing in Europe.

An example of the lack of professionalism I refer to relates to the recent transfer of Kelvin Wilson. Neil Lennon and Peter Lawell had known for some time that Kelvin Wilson wanted to return down south for personal reasons. Fair enough, I've always believed in not trying to hold on to players who don't want to be at the club. However why with plenty of time on our side and money in the bank didn't we have a replacement for Kelvin Wilson in place for the Shaktar tie? Our centre back pairing (for the most important game of the season) consisted of a young, relatively untried Dutch player (who had 15 minutes of game time since returning from injury) and a player who's playing time has been limited over the last three seasons due to serious injury. During the same period this player was was freed by more than one English lower league club. Both players lack of match practice/fitness, allied to the fact that they had only played together for fifteen minutes last Saturday contributed to the debacle on Tuesday night.

It is my understanding that professional clubs operate with a database of potential replacements for every position in the team. Who then should have been the replacement for Kelvin Wilson's position and why was he not acquired in time for the Shaktar tie? In my opinion Celtics fall back position on this subject should have been retaining Kelvin Wilson until his replacement had been acquired.

There is yet another 'pot of gold' awaiting us should we progress to the group stages next Wednesday. However I believe Mr Lennon and Mr Lawell have stacked the odds against us due to basic lack of professionalism. {Ed007's Note - Fans are giving NL too much 'credit' in transfer dealings, once a player has been identified and agreed on it is out of his hands. He has no input on any the financial side of things and wouldn't want to get involved in it.
The only mistakes NL made the other night IMO were his team selection and tactics. I think it could have been a different game if we had Boerrigter playing to give us an out-ball, but that's really neither here nor there. Again, I could be wrong but I have always said I thought any deal for Finnbogason would depend on CL qualification, not from a financial point of view but from the player's side of things, so that is hardy PL's fault.
Or would fans have preferred a signing for the sake of it? I know I would rather see us signing the right players than rushing in and panic buying, and if there isn't value for money out there, keep the money until the right players are available and bring through some youngsters.
The fans aren't right all the time either, fans DEMAND signings these days and they would rather see a multi-million pound signing with a fancy foreign name than see a young player come through the ranks and giving them time to learn and develop.
That's seen as penny-pinching but then they will all talk about how good a model Borussia Dortmund or Ajax are and how we should be aspiring to be like that.
If I am honest I don't really blame anyone in particular for the result the other night, if Commons hadn't hit the bar I truly believe it would have been an altogether different game, but he did hit the bar and we need to get on with it at home. The players owe the club, the fans and even themselves a quality performance and at the very minimum, at least go down fighting (not literally btw).}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well said Ed at last someone who see's the bigger picture regarding a team playing in a poor league, Not PL, NL or Celtic's fault.
Tambhoy {Ed007's Note - Cheers Tam.}

Ed wasn't boerrigter inj?, ., .kbarry {Ed007's Note - Yeah, I didn't mean he had been left out. I could have worded that better, I was meaning we didn't have anyone on the park doing his job.}

Celtic are weathering a financial storm pretty well. They provided great excitement last year and made a few bob. 90% of clubs are struggling to compete with the so called big guns. Whatever happens on wed. we've got some good euro games coming. That's an achievement in itself. There's a tv revolution coming and the gap will be easier to bridge. I think we should applaud the way the club is being run and if we win this tie, it will be an amazing run of success. Mon the hoops!
