Just paper talk but apparently Hooper's rejected a new contract offer, don't believe it myself and I'm confident he'll stay.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

I think he'll stay till the summer, we should bring in Austin now.

I could live without Stokes too, as he will hold up Watt's chances of a starting place.

I think we should start playing more youngsters, Twardzik, Fraser, McGeough etc and dump the likes of McCourt, Stokes, Miku, Bangura, Slane and Murphy!

With Rangers nowhere, and by all accounts playing like a 2nd/3rd division team then we should be maximising game time for the youth players at the club. I couldn't care if we won the league by 9 points or 30. I'd rather see the next McGeady, Forrest etc coming through......players that play the Celtic way and play for the shirt!

I think we should sell hooper now for he will not sign a new contract and we should take the money or else we will get very low offers in summer. We did great without him in the barca games and it will be hard to beat juve and if we lose and hooper dose nothing everyone would say we should have sold him. We could bring in the burnley striker for he seem like how hooper was when we first got him. And if hooper dose do good I can't see anyone bidding over what they are offering now at 8mill or so.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

I would like him to stay till the summer, but if we get a decent offer £7-8m then we should take it.....we beat Barca without Hooper!
Plus is Izzy the same player man united were looking to spend £7m on now?
Boruc went for £3, yet a year before he was worth £8m!

We need to maximise the amount were getting for players. Like it or not were a selling club......and we've got John Park and Lenny to scout players! (Hooper was a Lennon's choice)

DazzaBhoy {Ed007's Note - There is something wrong with the other post you sent in Daz, buddy.}

Agree0 Disagree1

The more this saga goes on I think we are doing ourselves harm because it is starting to sound like he is getting upset and soon it will get out and the bids won't be any where we want and would prob just get what we paid for.

think we should cash in with hooper if we don't we can take at leest 2 million off asking price in the summer he would be handy in the 2 juve games but we don't need him to win spl hector

good to see Boruc playing for Southampton tonight!

Believable4 Unbelievable4

21 Jan 2013 17:29:34
If & it, s a big if Southampton buy kenwyne Jones for around 5-6 million according to sly this would be the price, would we really be happy accepting 7-8 million for Gary Hooper ? I know his contract has 18 months to go but still I would personally let his contract run out rather than sell, never going to happen but I would love to see it. The arrogance from english poster's about the epl in comparison to the spl is unbelievable, we know your league is awash with cash & ours is skint by comparison but when you try to compare Glasgow Celtic with 95% of the dross in the epl & championship they show how stupid they are & how little they know about football. Our clubs are paying the price for trying to keep up with the deady bears horrendous spending & finding ways to raise & hide payments to keep up with the biggest supported & most charitable club in Scotland the mighty Glasgow Celtic. Cheating breaking the rules or laws of the associations year after year, fans of all other clubs throughout the land paying there honest hard earned money to support the club they follow in the belief it's a level playing field for all. Took losses of leagues & cups didn't like it but you took it on the chin but the thought one team was always at an advantage really sticks in the throat, I for one will look to be compensated if this is not addressed by nimmo smith as the sfa don't have the balls to or is it the will to do so ? One club done its best to kill our game & the new one is being allowed & helped to bring the game to its knees again for cash !  AbS

Believable4 Unbelievable3

We can't compete financially with the epl because our league is skint but your answer is turn down 8 million and let him leave for nothing ?? that's sure to win business idea of the year ... NOT ... ch

Agree4 Disagree1

It was a level playing field though. EBTs didn't make the players perform better. The players won everything fare and square. Their ability wasn't enhanced because they received EBTs. Stop putting it down to cheating, it's pathetic and becoming very very boring!

TTG

Agree3 Disagree10

@ TTG; I find it staggering that you fans of The rangers don't get this. No one is saying an EBT made any one play better, we are saying that if you never used them you would not have had the same quality in your team.Common sense will dictate that therefore your team would not have been as good surely?...........green jhedi

Agree8 Disagree1

If it was a 'level playing field' TTG then why are Lord Nimmo Smith & his cronies meeting at the end of this month ?

By your reckoning Celtic should just play Messi or Ronaldo against Juventus, hey they are not properly registered or anything but they have the Hoops on so no matter ~ Mrs E

Agree5 Disagree1

To ttg- it was a level playing field in that it was 11 vs 11. But the reason celtic didn't sign top players from the epl was because we couldn't afford them. celtic relied on smaller transfer fees and wages for their 11 players. Rangers bought and fielded players they could not afford, when this reached a critical point they could no longer pay their bills so they died. So I would say you didn't cheat but your club died. I have no doubt you will now spout on that cg saved the club but we all know that is not true. Heres a thought for you, if you want to retain all your titles that the players in question won, then pay the bills that go with that and no-one will be able to question the wins or how they were gained. If you want to claim those titles even though they were damaging your club at the time then accept that the money spent on attaining those titles was a major contributing factor in your clubs death. So I for one won't claim you cheated, but equally you can not argue that that club is alive .
cheers johnnybhoy

Agree4 Disagree2

@2) I hope it is boring to you and other ex Rangers fans because by paying money you couldn't afford you brought in players you would never have had. I also hope it continues to be boring for a long long time. I'm not interested in us getting the plaudits for coming"second" but I do hope the history books point to the fact that your leagues a rescinded due to cheating.

Vambo

Agree5 Disagree2

Of course you was cheating you couldn't have afforded the players you had therefore you shouldn't have won cheat cheat cheat mmi2009

Agree6 Disagree3

@ 2 ebts didn't make them perform better but if it wasnt for ebts they wouldn't have been performing in the first place ... at least not for your club ... ch

Agree6 Disagree2

Side contracts deady bear ! Boring ? Thieving cheating bigots who want to sweep it under the carpet, ebt's aye your manky mob have tried it on at every turn thank you for bringing them up ! More knowledge & experience dealing with football associations & disciplinary boards panels than you will ever have, I know pro, juniors & amateur teams who have been punished more severe than that cheating shower of sh*te you supported for far less. The tribute act in the lowest tier are facing the consequences after being helped at every turn & still you lot feel hard done by. Level playing field I said & I stand by it nobody has ever stolen cheated me & got away with it, sold me something that didn't do what it says on the tin it is returned refunded. I can assure you I know my rights & the law in these matters & quite a few companies have found that out to there cost. Glasgow Celtic biggest best & most charitable club in the land, GLASGOW'S GREEN & WHITE ! AbS

Agree6 Disagree2

I think it's easy to explain to TTG and other Rangers fans, if explained as so:

Rangers DID have a better team than Celtic.

Rangers team DID win the league.

And more so, Rangers TEAM DID win the league fairly- playing 11 vs 11.

So what's the problem?

Rangers should never have had that TEAM.

The Patient

Agree4 Disagree2

Its not just performing that ebts effect if a player is fined by the sfa the maximal fine is 2 weeks wages how many times did you see rangers players walking away with 2 grand fines and stuff and thinking that's a bit soft but the fine is based on the wages that have been declared to the sfa if the ebts where disclosed those fines could have been 20 to 40 grand so it was also cheating that protected players from the same discipline as everyone else and allowed player to break rules without any proper ratification ... ch

ED007, Green Jhedi, Shammy, Mrs E and all the other regulars what about this for discussion?
I read elsewhere that Celtic should look again at naming rights for Celtic Park.
We all know Green is looking at £1.5m a year for Rangers...
But Celtic, particularly these days, are much higher profile so should be able to ask more.
In France Nice have a sponsorship with Alliance 9 years at £1.8m
Also Saracens rugby club have a deal with Alliance for £8m for kit and stadium rights.
Our Nike deal earns us minimum £5.8m a year.
We should be looking at something similar for naming stadium. Say 5 year deal at £4-£5m a year?
Our profile is high just now, and hopefully with at least 2 more years in CL we can ask decent money.
We would then have a pot of money each year to sign players without dipping into our bank funds.Timalloy

Believable4 Unbelievable3

No brainer for me timalloy, it will always be Celtic park or parkhead paradise whichever our supporters preference maybe. So I would welcome a sponsor no problem with it. AbS

Agree4 Disagree1

I would rather not sell the naming rights but I can see the plus points in it. The name for me is the key.It essential we get a name that does not leave the club open to ridicule.I think Nike would be among the front runners, given the successful tie in we have had with them, but we will never get £4-5m per year.Given the viewing figures, out with the champions league which we are not guaranteed to get in, I think a realistic number would be around £2m per year.I would trust Mr Lawwell with this, he pulled the Magners deal out of the hat............green jhedi

Agree2 Disagree1

For me Tim the time would have to be right, Celtic have just banked over £20m in the CL so far this season therefore, no need to do it right now.

I have said on here, in theory, I don't mind but it would have to be in keeping with the Club and for about £2m a year.

I don't run the Club though or balance the books...I trust Celtic to make the right decision should it arise.

What Charles Green hurry is, I don't know and no wonder the fans are concerned. They are attracting big crowds in the 3rd div and the share issue was in his words a 'success'. Rangers have already lost quite a bit of their identity and Ibrox is one of the oldest stadiums about, why does he have to do this right now & for a fee that looks quite small ? ~ Mrs E

Agree3 Disagree1

We are going to be in the Champs league for many years to come, and all that lovely money that comes with it .With people like Messrs Desmond and Lawell to make sure it is spent wisely I don't think we should ever, ever think of re - naming our great stadium .Celtic Park for ever, .Hail Hail

Agree1 Disagree2

I'm sure celtic have been approached by many companies to rename celtic park, especially as they are pretty much guaranteed champions league football every year. To a lot of companies this would be seen as a cheaper more realistic option than the EPL clubs that play regularly in the competition, HOWEVER, what the board feel is hopefully reflected by what the supporters feel that there are more important things than money. HISTORY can't and should not be bought!

So Norwich made a bid for hooper and it was rejected in like a day and Lennon said he was upset it come out then Norwich have made a second bid we think there was an interview that sounded like Celtic told us the price and we nodded but nothing has been heard off the only thing that has been said is your looking at Austin hmm I maybe think hooper might be leaving for around 7-8m Ch has said he wants hooper no matter what but they will not pay over the top money Norwich knew 5m was going to be rejected but it got hooper thinking would love to see what happens

Been reading all the posts about Hooper and just been wondering Ed . Has he the best goals record in recent years . If you take Henrik out the equation where does he stand . I actually thought Zurawski had a decent tally.....DH {Ed007's Note - Here is the comparison DH. You have my PA to thank for this at this time on a Sunday night. Old spinsters have a very lonely life:

Magic's - App - 72 Goals - 30 Ave - 0.41
Hooper's - App - 106 Goals - 62 Ave - 0.58

it now looks to me we are going to lose hooper before the window closes. we will recieve 7/8 million for him. I would look for a stop gap player and wait till summer before spending serious money.
the player I would bring in scott mcdonald.
knows the club/ league inside out .he would jump at the chance to return, would score goals.
anyones thoughts.
davy

Believable2 Unbelievable7

Cant stay onside and has a first touch like an elephant. Not even half the player Hooper is.

Drew

Agree3 Disagree1

McDonald no way average player couldn't stand him arrogant on the pitch don't no why because he wasnt good enough to arrogant

Agree2 Disagree0

I'm with you OP I always rated Skippy and still do. I've watched him 2 or 3 times this season and he's still got it. He gets starved of games and when he plays he gets starved of service and yet still has a decent scoring record at Boro. Be would be a free transfer and we could then go and buy someone big in the summer.

Agree1 Disagree0

If he's an average player how can we judge hooper any different they have very similar goal scoring records and have both scored at champions league level.

Spoke to a good friend of mine last night. He phoned me to say he was off to the Juve game. I am so happy for him. He told me his grandfather waited in poor weather without any of his family knowing to get two extra tickets using his ST. He then phoned his son who, after hitting the roof with joy (as you would) booked two flights from Melbourne to Scotland. Then he went to bed, and woke his son up to tell him the good news. I know there are a lot of brilliant supporters who will miss out on this game, but for a couple of lads to get together and fork out a lot of money for the trip I think is amazing, and a perfect example of what the extra tickets should be used for. It's bringing together 3 generations of Celtic supporters in what could be one of our clubs finest moments.

I told him I was happy for him, and it was almost like I was going too. It'll be some night.

Melb Bhoy

Believable7 Unbelievable3

Hard to argue against that. The Grandfather will no doubt remember the night for the rest of his life, as will his son and Grandkid.I remember Seville when my late father, who was at our two European cup finals, was there with me and his two Grandsons.Life long memories for us all.Hope he gets something really special to remember!....green jhedi
