Would absolutely love to see us make a move for Andrea Pirlo. If I am correct I think he is available on a free from Juventus. I know he is 36 but he is still a class act and would add a touch of magic in the same vain as Lubo. Probably on mega wages but this would be offset by the free transfer.

No chance mate! He'll be off to America or middle East! Where he'll make a ton of money and enjoy the weather! Think that beats Dingwall on a freezin cold November night! Haha! Good shout but bud,would a love to have seen him in the hoops!

You are right Wiss67. The article I read mentioned he was going to America. I still think it would be worth sounding him out, even if it meant getting chased. What would we have to loose by asking the question? Imagine seeing Pirlo in the hoops! One of my favourite players of the last decade.

As much as I rate Pirlo and think he still has something to offer, I would not like us to sign him.

For starters I don't think his legs would cope with the high pressing, high intensity style we are hoping to play. Not only that, he would have no sell on clause and would command high wages which are probably beyond our wage structure.

Personally I think we should promote some of the development team this season and maybe sign a backup LB + GK and new striker and CB. In addition it would be nice if we could offload some of the fringe players that are not going to play, even if it is just out on loan to free up wages.

Pirlo is defo a class act he could fit in to any team without any hassles top dollar required for him even at this stage in his career

It seems our momentum has died on its arse transfer wise with that boy going to Ajax after all.
Anytime any club is interested in the same player as us that's game over.

Collins now talking the same yearly pish about how we could go int it with the current squad.

My fear is we will once again sign prices because no one of ability wants to join us.
We have about 8 of this type to try to punt and don't need anymore.

I foolishly believed we would have all the players we needed before raring resumes.

That looks like self delusion as it is panning out the same depressingly way.

Getting players in place and settled before the Champions league qualifiers begin is a priority. It is where we have been caught out before. Personally I think this will be the case this year and I have faith in the club to get the right players in. If not it's going to be a long year.

I've stressed the importance of buying first myself. However I think the draws will work out ok for us. At least we don't meet Manchester United et al in the last round. Not to mention i'm more confident than this time last year. Hopefully we at least get players in for the last rounds as we could still face a decent side.

But what RD can spend might be down to the board depending if we get in the CL usual lat minute buys then the lat day panick buys but there is still time to get players in! At least we got Armstrong and McKay Stevens in, in January!

I've said before, and been hounded, a fit Derk would be like a brand new signing but unfortunately that doesn't look as if it is physically possible

{Ed007's Note - I was looking forward to seeing Boerrigter tearing it up domestically at least and without going over old ground you've got to ask who's responsible for signings like that, Kev. We have wasted millions on players and some odd transfers and although we've hit the jackpot with Wanyama etc we've wasted a lot of profit on Boerrigter, Pukki etc.
We don't seem to be able to buy a quality CL/EL level striker for love nor money, the money we've thrown at duds would have covered the installments of buying Jordan Rhodes when he was leaving Huddersfield.}

21 Jun 2015 07:49:37
What we need to accept is that we cannot afford to buy the finished article and I don't like it anymore than the rest of you. However, that is where we are at just now.

If we do sign someone of note (I.e. Boerrigter) then we are taking a risk as they will mostly likely have either behaviour or injury issues.

Rab

That has been the case with us since O'Neill left but it hasn't stopped us buying some good players over the years since.

We need to gamble £4 or £5 million on a quality striker (especially when we were told we could shop in this market and never did 2 years ago) to get us into the group stages of the champions league.

The other option is to look at the teams who should have and did put us out of Europe last season. Legia and Maribor had some players who would improve our squad and wouldn't cost the earth.

I'm not saying we won't sign good players, Johansen, Lustig & Biton are testamont to that. My point is that it is unlikely we are going to sign a well known name who has already made a name for himself.

The chances are we will sign someone who is not well known or who has good potential and not yet made a name for himself. Or we will sign someone who has only made a name for themselves in Scotland.

At the end of the day we have a well established wage structure which is not very flexible, so whoever we sign will have to fit that structure or we won't be signing them.

Either way, I have faith in our management and scouting system to find players who will improve our team and have a good sell on value.

Seen vossen has come out and said he'd fancy a move to us this summer! Think he would score goals for fun in the SPL! Seen him a few times for mboro last season and he impressed me! Didn't score loads of goals but he was playin a more deeper role! Put him up front and he would do the buisness! Over 100 goals for genk! Would do the buisness in our league! U heard anythig about us getting him ED?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Unofficially there's a good chance of this happening but the club need to agree a fee with Genk or at least get their permission to talk to Vossen. I expect things to move on in the next few days when our preseason starts and everyone is back at their desk so to speak.}

21 Jun 2015 16:56:35
Cheers ED,really hope this happens! Guys a quality striker! And if the fee being quoted is true then I think it's well worth it!

What's the rumours about jelle vossen all about?, I would love him to sign but I remember ed saying a summer or two ago he would be worth in the excess of 8million?, what's changed

{Ed001's Note - his value has dropped, Boro can purchase him for £2m.}

20 Jun 2015 11:06:58
I don't know enough about him & don't think I've seen him play to judge myself.

Do we rate him at all?
