wee question for everyone be interesting what the answers are. now mostly everyone was wanting howe the club thought it was a cert done deal he gave us his word and wanted to wait to the summer to start club waited to the summer for him trusting him after he gave his word. he does us over at the last minute now we have moved on to the next candidate who will probably be in next week.

what would you have done in this situation that would you already have a manager in place just now sorting things out. now mind howe is the number 1 target and agreed on it to join.

We should have insisted that Howe signed up UI. A nod and a wink is ok down the local boot sale but in real business it means nothing, yet the board of a PLC saw fit to take it as real. HH.

Go bigger - Rangnick or someone - push the boat out. You can then also say to them “Howe was our first choice as we were shopping at M and S, we’re now pushing the boat out to shop at Harrods” or some p*sh to flatter them out of feeling like second choice.
It also means we buy time (and probably really good experience in the new man) to bring in a DoF, sort out scouting, analysis, medical departments, etc.

For me UI from celtics point of view during that 3 month period Celtic should’ve gave him a cut off point to fully commit. If by which point he hadn’t we move on. Secondly as I’ve said on her numerous times now, the club should’ve released a statement to the support along the lines of we have several top candidates and it’s an ongoing process. By doing that your not making it look like 1 man is the outstanding candidate and in this case when Howe fell through it doesn’t look half as bad, whereas the silence was deafening, everyone new Howe was “ the man” they wanted and after 3 months walks away making the club look like mugs. Now we’re in a situation over 3 months since lennon left, still no manager or DOF and the “ preferred candidate “ apparently doesn’t have the paperwork for managing in Europe, although he can get it working weeks which is further drawing the process out. whole thing is a total mess.

Desmond should have put his hand in his pocket and got us a bigger name. Someone who has won something meaningful preferably, or at least done well with a provincial club in a big league.

If Howe gave Celtic a verbal agreement to join, then under UK law it would have been legally binding. The fact Celtic have not sued him for breach of contract would suggest there was no verbal agreement.
