Just watched a Celtic Tweet vid remembering our first floodlit game.
It was 12th October 1959 and my dad's birthday. To celebrate and treat us both he took me to the big occasion.
The lights were magnificent. We played Wolves who were EL champs, they beat us at a canter, I was still at an age where I thought Celtic could beat any English team. It was 1965 at Hampden before things began to look up but we never looked back.
{Ed007's Note - I'm 50 in May and still think Celtic could beat any Pub League team! I really wanted us to get Man Utd from Pot 2 this year in the CL draw.}

I'm 67 and my dad was the Chief Stand Steward back in the mid 60s to mid 70s and my mum's dad and brother were turnstile operators. Can't really remember about the games I saw but 1974 Basle, 1974 Atletico Madrid with their thugs and the 1970 Fiorentina game have remained in my mind. Still reckon the atmosphere was better in the pre-Fergus stadium.

The best atmosphere was definitely the jungle I remember being taken there with my dad and grandad and I am still sure to this day that teams when they came out the tunnel and saw the jungle put the nerves right through teams most teams were already beaten as they walked onto the pitch. I was there for the jungles last stand with tears pouring down my face as I thought it was the end of an era never to be repeated then we went on an amazing home winning spree with Mon I think it was something like 77 unbeaten games at CP.

Buzz, my Great-grandfather was on the Founder's Committee (J McCann 1894-1896) and my mum's cousin played for them (Tommy Bogan) . My mum met my dad when she was collecting for a charity outside her dad's turnstile and he had to nip down and inform the turnstile operators not to let anyone else in - ie close that turnstile or set of turnstiles. Never once did I get lifted over or let through but the number of small 50 -70 years olds trying to bundle their way over the stiles was hilarious - just watching them. Sanitisation was primitive (down the back of the punter in front of your's leg) and I saw the odd pie or two getting hurled a good distance. All the polis did was walk around the perimeter but never weighed into any bother. Those were the days.

I was born the same day as WGS, I have often been surprised that two people born on the same day can be so knowledgable about football.
