Mjallby standing down as asst at the end of the season according to the Celtic Fb page!

I would make Gary Parker the assistant, and bring in a new first team coach, someone who isn't a former Martin O'Neil player, someone with new/fresh ideas, and who can teach the players to pass the ball. Maybe someone from Spain/holland, even South America. Or if we go for someone closer to home, what about someone like Steve Clarke or Glen Hoddle - I want a new approach.

2.) 23 Apr 2014
Gutted about this. I've had the belief that he'd make a cracking manager one day, especially with him stepping in to Lennon's shoes when he got banned the other year. Good luck to the big man. Clarke would be a good appointment but I expect he'll be looking for a managers job. Maybe Moyes could be our new assistant? :)

3.) 23 Apr 2014
Iv got a theory that the big man wants the job when NL leaves this summer and has been told no! Just a theory lol.

4.) 23 Apr 2014
Chris Sutton :)

{Ed007's Note - What about promoting John Kennedy?}

5.) 23 Apr 2014
I think we need an attack-minded guy on the backroom staff mate. Mowbray's (DF) team was Lennon (DM), Grant (MF), Venus (CB) and Woods (GK). Lennon's backroom staff are Mjallby (CB), Parker (MF) and McGrain (RB). I think it shines through at times in the style we play, so I'd like to see us mix it up a bit!

6.) 23 Apr 2014
What has a coaches position when he played got to do with his style of play lol. many a defender has turned out to be a very attacking coach. Bruce (HUll) Pellegrini to name but 2 are very attack minded. And if you look at the new club their manager manager was all time top scorer at his former club and only plays 1 up front against part timers lol.

7.) 23 Apr 2014
Lennon said the likes of Balde, Fridjonsson, etc were works in progress and getting tidied up round the edges in training. Who's teaching them how to score goals or get into the right space? Ex-DM, Lennon? Ex-CB, Mjallby? Ex-MF, Parker? Ex-RB, McGrain? Ex-GK, Woods? Ex-RB, McCart? Ex-GK, Krivokapic? None of these guys were famous for putting the ball in the net. They're all goalkeepers, defenders and defensive midfielders! Ps, what does Parker bring to Celtic? He just seems like one of Lennon's pals who tags along. Comes across the kind of seedy guy you see drinking in the boozer himself on a Saturday afternoon!

The position the coach played has obviously got nothing to do with his philosophy-2 off the greatest were't even proper pros at all(mourinho and sacchi) the point is, and it's as clear as the nose on your face that we can't pass the ball/are technically average. It is no coinsidence that 4 of the most sought after coaches currently are also technical attack minded coaches - Guardiola/Klopp/Rodgers/Martinez. Klopp was a centre half, and Rodgers retired through injury at 21. So there is absolutely no coralation at all-we simply can't choose the right person. Arsenal for eg have just appointed a guy to oversee their whole infrastructure from the kids up, his name is Andries Jonker, he has worked with Barca/bayern/Dutch fa, and I think he is still only in his 40's. This is arguably the most important part of the club - it can save you 10s of millions in the transfer market, and basically sets out how you perceive the game. We always go for the cheap option, I've said a hundred times we don't have real visionaries at the club. If you look at fergies first team coaches-he always mixed it up, different ideas, guys from Portugal/holland/etc etc. He was basically admitting he didn't know it all and wanted to learn different methods.

I don't think it matters where the coach is from, it's their playing style ideals and training methods that are the most important. As some of the posts above quite rightly state, some of the most successful coaches are from a defensive, non-professional playing career background. Let's face it how many world class strikers or attacking midfielders have proved tobe fantastic coaches? I'm sure there are a few, but can't thik of any off the top of my head, I'm sure somebody will have the superior knowledge. Let's be patient and hope Lennon can get the right support he needs to improve the team.

10.) 25 Apr 2014
You can't think of any forwards who have became successful managers?! Off the top of my head: Johan Cruyff? Alex Ferguson? Brian Clough? Don Revie? Ottmar Hitzfeld?

HB apart from Cryuff, the managers you mentioned could not be classed as being World class in their professional playing careers and were a lot more successful in their managerial careers.

12.) 25 Apr 2014
I didn't mention successful playing careers, I was talking about Celtic bring in an attack minded coach then you brought up not being able to name any ex-strikers who are/were successful managers.

13.) 26 Apr 2014
As I said, I would prefer a new dynamic first team coach, but if it is purely a no 2 he wants, someone like Mike Phelan would surely be ideal. He fits all the criteria, - for once just pay for a bit of quality. It is far more important than the wage for a player because he will be implementing ideas to a whole squad.

14.) 26 Apr 2014
Another shout could be the unproven Zinedine Zidane. Think of the pulling power + influence he'd be to sign players for the club, however, I think he could be getting nurtured to take the reigns at Real eventually?!

{Ed007's Note - Zidane will leave Madrid this summer, with Perez's blessing, to try his hand at management with the sole aim being for him to return to the Bernabeu as manager in a few years.}
