In the second half, Lazio brought on Castellanos (signed for 15M euros in the summer) , Isaksen (signed for 12M euros) , Guendouzi (25M rated) , Marusic (8M defender) and the highly experienced multi-Champions League winning Pedro.

Five seasoned, high quality players.

We brought on Oh (2.8M euros) , Bernardo (3M rated Benfica reserve) , Palma (4.75M euros from a Greek mid-table side) , and Carter-Vickers (13M rated defender) on his return from injury.

2 projects, one up-and-comer from a weak league, and one star player making his first start after a medium term injury.

There is no need for anyone to watch the match to guess who was stronger going into the final minutes.

Quality matters, experience matters. In fact, the difference they bring is magnified at the highest level.

Our own "Pedro" knows this and won't even try to compete with teams like Lazio.

As MON prophesied, we're planning and investing for life in the slow lane of European football.

Celtic have brought in 15 players since Baby Lawwell has been at our club.

Jenz ( loan )
Abilgaard ( loan )
Kobayashi
Alastair Johnston
Iwata
Kwon
Tillo
Palma
Yang
Bernardo ( loan )
OH
Phillips ( loan )
Lagerbielke
Nawrocki
Holm.

Only ONE player is a guaranteed starter for Celtic.

Is that Baby Lawwell’s responsibility?

2.) 05 Oct 2023 12:31:33
Not his responsibility alone but it does make for great reading. It would be interesting to hear what his remit is in terms of player profile. It's highly possible he's got a list of ballers who he knows the club won't sign.

3.) 05 Oct 2023 12:38:39
Every fan knows the constraints of the spl and that we can't go toe to to financially with teams like lazio . so it's a absolute priority we spend any money wisely and buying 9 projects or 9 cheap signings isn't the way to do it . alongside projects or cheap signings we need to keep bringing in tried and tested quality players . we know there's no magic wand for success in the market but imo we should always be striving to get the best we can afford and I don't think the board think that way. imo opinion they're fixated on this find a rough diamond/ project then sell on for multi millions . which happens rarely and then we're left with a bloated squad of players making up the numbers on the bench or sitting in the stands.

4.) 05 Oct 2023 13:29:23
Alastair Johnston is the only player mentioned above to be a guaranteed starter for Celtic but that's not surprising, considering he has the experience of playing at a World Cup and he has been a good replacement for Juranovic.

Celtic sold Jota for a massive transfer fee and we've tried to replace him with a few inexperienced wingers in the hope that one of them will be a success.

Lagerbielke only had 15 minutes European experience before he joined Celtic.
And then he appears in a CL group match and gets himself Sent off due to his inexperience.

You Make Your Own Luck.

Quoting M O’N is a strange one, he tool DD by surprise and damned nearly bankrupt the club, buying £6m players at or past their peak that left us with no resale value . Our problems last night came about by CCV, lynch pin of defence injured and our 2nd best defender falling in love, 3rd injured,4 th suspended . Our other star, has taken a year out from playing. Ange kissed the badge& left
These events not easy to foresee and may have made our transfer window more difficult, but we have fans who can buy on FIFA games top players and see no problem.

{Ed007's Note - Fans need to get it out their head that Starfelt left to be near his girlfriend, it's another myth that Celtic fans cling on to and use as a stick to beat a player the majority of them spent their time slagging off - I'm surprised he hasn't been blamed by some for CCV's mistake last night.}

Japan's World Cup team had a lot of success switching between 4-2-3-1 and 3-4-3 (even in the middle of games) .

I'd like to see Rodgers experiment with a 3-4-3 (or 3-5-2 as other posters have mentioned) for European games, although there is nothing in his track record to suggest that he will.

i. e.

Hart
Starfelt-CCV-Rocky
Johnston-McGregor-Hatate-Bernabei
Abada-Kyogo-Maeda.

I would have Oriley in the midfield as he's another that will flourish under Rodgers taking his game up a level.

2.) 03 Aug 2023 13:49:52
I done think BR has too big a fixation on the actual formation. He sets up team for particular match and makes little twists and changes as match progresses . We have players who adapt to different positions.

Jota's farewell message.

1.) 09 Jul 2023 19:59:01
I was close to shedding a few tears after watching that. HH.

2.) 09 Jul 2023 21:19:30
Fuk off, ran for money, mercanaire. Good luck once the suidies dump u.

3.) 09 Jul 2023 22:19:18
Bet he doesn't feel the same way about his new club but can't blame the boy for taking that sort of dough.

4.) 09 Jul 2023 23:32:18
I can blame him, even without taking the Saudi tainted money he would have earned unbelievable money and actually enjoyed the game and competed for very sought after trophies. He could have joined the Saudi regime in his 30’s and earned this stupid money and risked having his head cut off than rather. than a young man.

5.) 10 Jul 2023 02:21:27
Adjusting for the social-media warped affectations of our modern youth, I find Jota's statement heartfelt and sincere. Sure, there's the egoism and patter (and books! lots of books! ) , but he took the time to try to communicate something. That's more important than whatever he may or may not have managed to convey. Couldn't meet a more earnest young man, nor one so gallus.

Still, I may send him one or two titles on Wahhabism for his collection.

6.) 10 Jul 2023 06:08:32
say what you want about him we never got that off ange he just slipped out after all his patter wile he was here.

7.) 10 Jul 2023 07:00:05
Jota had a touch of class on the pitch and this shows he has a touch of class off the pitch.

I personally felt this was sincere and from the heart. I know some don't share this view but I don't hold any grudges that he left and thank him for all the wonderful memories he provided us while he was here.

8.) 10 Jul 2023 08:48:17
All this mercenary p ish is embarrassing. He was great for us, made us a lot of money and hopefully more when he moves from Saudi. We are a player trading club. It’s as if people still think it’s the end of days where players stayed for years. Get a grip. Good luck Jota and thank you. Turning on heroes is out of order. Grow the feck up.

9.) 10 Jul 2023 10:23:33
Agree young enough to play in Saudi for a year or two on megabucks before moving back to Europe. Moves like this will only encourage better players to come play for us as we are gaining a reputation and our recent track record is pretty good. Onwards and upwards hail hail.

10.) 10 Jul 2023 11:18:05
@kwaj - another thing that works in our favour, is that when we sell players for big money to the EPL they generally do well.

Whereas, the ones they have sold, (3 in 11 years) have tended to flop.

11.) 10 Jul 2023 17:50:05
People saying Jota could have waited a few more years before taking the Saudi money, just remember John Kennedy, one tackle and career finished.
Take the money now and can always chase dreams later.

12.) 11 Jul 2023 01:08:35
The Saudis have offered zaha a 16milliin pound a year deal he's 30 now but wants 23.5 million a year so Jota could have waited.

I'd like to see the board cast their net wide in their search for a new manager.

Fluminese's Fernando Diniz is being talked about as a future Brazil national team coach.

Looks totally different to what we are used to . Celtic fans would love this style ?.

2.) 08 Jun 2023 20:56:42
Knudsten or Potter for me possibly in reverse order although as much as much as it would disgust me if it was my money and I was Dermot Desmond I could see why it would be Rodgers and I’d just need to get over it somehow.

3.) 08 Jun 2023 21:26:08
Playing devils advocate here JFP but Knutsen the Bodø/ Glimt boss? They're top and into their season if he left now I don't think that sits well with some of our fans.

4.) 08 Jun 2023 21:35:41
JimTim

Do unto others as you would have done unto yourself. For that very reason I’d go for Potter.

5.) 08 Jun 2023 22:14:46
Actually watched that the other day long shot though doubt he’s on the boards radar.

6.) 08 Jun 2023 22:43:23
JFP didn't we take Ange from Japan during their season?
The Japanese fans were gutted.

To the tune of O Sole Mio:

{Chorus}

Just one more Kyogoal, it has to be!
A touch like velvet; the net billows!
He skins them, he skins them all;
Our smiling ninja, he scores the goal!

{Verse 1}

He came from Kobe, from where the Sun is rising,
A shooting star, blessed by Iniesta,
Who could believe, such brilliance undiscovered?
Who is this man? He's the Saint of Ange-ball!

{Verse 2}

From the front, he leads through fearsome pressing,
Touch of Henke, swift as Jorge Cadete,
Guile and skill; subtle like Moravcik,
Heir of Nakamura! He's the Saint of Ange-ball!

{Verse 3}

Stevie is crying, awed by Furuhashi,
He's no Morelos; he's more like Lionel Messi,
A cutting edge, unlike any other,
Too good for Rangers, He's the Saint of Ange-ball!

. and then we get humiliated in the Champions League as we attempt to win a gunfight with the knife of an inexperienced project player replacing a quality seasoned pro.
