Evening all, i was listening to Sportsound last night and Marvin Bartley was giving his thoughts on our predicament. He mentioned how highly he regarded Eddie Howe as a manager/ coach when he played under him, really endorsed him and mentioned how good training was under him and his man management skills.
Another name to put into the hat, David Wagner, i think he would be quite a good choice also.

Can’t understand why Celtic fans listen to sport sound.

2.) 01 Feb 2021 20:10:01
Why shouldn't i?

3.) 01 Feb 2021 21:12:52
Because you shouldn’t be airing your dirty washing in public our thoughts should be kept among our own. We know what the MSSM think why would you want to discuss Celtic with them? Would you write to the moderator of the Church of Scotland and ask him what he thinks of the Pope?

4.) 01 Feb 2021 21:52:51
Who is airing their dirty washing in public? I listen to a radio program or other form of media. Then ask fellow fans on their opinion. What's peoples thoughts on David Wagner as a new manager, that's my question. Nothing else.

What is everyone's thoughts on Philip Cocu as new manager for next season?
He would be my no.1 target.
Also would our board be looking at someone like that?
I'd say provided we are overhauling our set up, we should be an attractive project.

1967 stephen. our board is probably not looking for anyone. They believe they have the right managerial team in place and that is why we are in this state.

2.) 25 Jan 2021 15:46:17
Unless Cocu wanders into the shower room I doubt he will be our next manager.

3.) 25 Jan 2021 16:04:34
He had a terrible time at Derby.
But Cocu had a successful period in Holland as manager.
I think he would be at the top end of our budget.
And I would say yes Stephen.

4.) 25 Jan 2021 16:36:50
No sure about him to be honest think we can do better.

5.) 25 Jan 2021 17:44:29
Hahaha aye will have to lure him into the showers right enough ahah.
Its his job at PSV that gives me faith, they hadn't won a league since 2008 until he took over.
But the focus on bringing through youth players is something I'd love to see, even if it meant taking a season to bed in.
Yeah derby wasn't good, but i think the 5 years at PSV and his reputation before leaving them is impressive enough. A fresh approach would benefit the club in my opinion.

{Ed007's Note - 3 titles in 5 years in Holland is not to be sneezed at, Stephen. His choice of jobs since then has been questionable though as Fenerbahce were in a right mess on & off the pitch and Derby were involved in a will they or won't they drawn out takeover that still hasn't happened.
I definitely think Cocu with the right DOF and coaching staff would be a good appointment.}

6.) 25 Jan 2021 18:46:05
Yeah its very impressive, especially because of ajax's dominance and PSV being in the doldrums before him.
Certainly fits the bill in my book.
I really hope that he is on the radar.
Notice he also did well with PSV in the cl.

7.) 25 Jan 2021 21:25:07
dont think we will get a manager that's anywhere near the level of cocu, rafa, imo we will get one that's no better than lennon as the game up here just can't attract or afford them, unless DD pays them and i think DD has tired of the club and would rather play a round of golf than watch an old firm game and that been the case he will pass it on to the family to play with like an old toy, he would probably sell his share but its unlikly he would get what he needs for them, so we will continue as we have.

Just following on from the the thread early about the board, Kennedy and running of the club.
The recruitment and the decision making has been poor for a long time now, its only now we are paying the price for it and highlighting it more.
I want Celtic to compete in Europe, we can't win the CL but we should qualify most years and at least put up a fight. We don't.
We don't develop anywhere near enough of our youth, no idea why we wouldn't pursue a model like that, it makes sense too and other European clubs do. We don't.
Our recruitment at times is baffling, i don't understand what we are even trying to do anymore. If there isn't a change soon, i can see plenty not renewing their season tickets in protest.

I think this is pretty unrealistic but i would love it if we made an approach for Lucien Favre the ex coach of Dortmund. He would be a great fit for us.
I don't know if the board even know who he is ahah or whether they would think to see if he would be available.
Anyone else thought of him as a candidate?

1967stephen

1.) 04 Jan 2021 23:43:13
* unrealistic - yes
* great shout - yes
* has our board heard of him - no.

2.) 05 Jan 2021 11:06:59
With the rebuild needed at the end of the season I'd love us to go for Nagelsmann.

3.) 07 Jan 2021 20:20:00
Great shout mate but remember the man who built them was ragnick we need complete overall from youth team up he is ready made to come in and be our architect for years to come pay him what he wants and leave him to the football side of things.

When/ if Lennon goes, who are the potential replacements?

1967stephen

1.) 29 Nov 2020 17:28:26
Pl will give the caretaker job to Kennedy, which gives me the fear, me personally I would give it to yogi Hughes and Brian rice till the end of the season. What odds you getting on Stuart Baxter getting it lol.

2.) 29 Nov 2020 17:42:37
Yogi hughes and brian rice haha good one mate.

3.) 29 Nov 2020 18:40:46
Malky mckay or Strachan poccinio not in job.

4.) 29 Nov 2020 18:44:35
Is Dan Petrescu a candidate? Think he would definitely be interested, however should Celtic be aiming bigger.
The Marco Roses of the world were all unknowns until they made their names. Think up and coming managers are the only option when it comes to attracting folk to Scotland, much like the players.

5.) 29 Nov 2020 18:56:10
Van bommel.

{Ed007's Note - Phillip Cocu and maybe Jackie McNamara - if his health problems are sorted - as his assistant?}

6.) 29 Nov 2020 19:30:16
I'd go for that ed007.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

7.) 29 Nov 2020 19:52:04
I don't think anyone of note will be interested in the job till this season is over due to the whole 10iar, they won't want their rep tarnished with being associated with losing the 10iar, that's why I would go for yogi, u hear all sorts off former players talk about how good his training methods are, and he plays football the Tommy burns way. I feel going for Strahan or Mon is a backwards step but I can understand way they would go for either of the above due to familiarity of surroundings.

8.) 29 Nov 2020 19:55:35
Yogi Hughes and Brian Rice? .

Ok that's reassuring if we do go for him, looks like he has a good pedigree so i was surprised they were prepared to let him go.

Anyone know why he is surplus to requirements at Copenhagen? I know he has one year left on his deal, but looks a good player, 20 odd caps aswell.

Celtic might as well of signed Usain Bolt, he is pish and not our player and hopefully never will be. Benkovic is a great dc in my opinion but we could never afford him permanently so why bother developing him for Leicester when we can develop simo and ajer. West Bitter Albion should take a look at themselves and maybe play there beloved 15mil signing a wee bit more. It's a bit rich coming from them after there treatment of Darren Moore.

Can't wait for new defenders to come in, committed ones. Shame we didn't take 8mil in August and run!
