Our strongest front 3 is pretty much universally accepted as Jota, Maeda and Khun. If we bring in a proven CF that the manager wanted in January where would that leave Idah? Given his comments after the Villa game about wanting to be the "main man" would he be happy being potentially 3rd choice? Hopefully he will appreciate it's a squad game and not be like GG.

{Ed007's Note - Well it's not universally accepted is it, even Rodgers has said he didn't want to play Maeda through the middle, the January signing would have fought Idah for a starting position in front of Kenny and without Maeda even being in the equation as a striker.
Maeda is a winger - probably our best winger - and if the board had done what the manager wanted this ludicrous notion about Maeda as striker wouldn't be being discussed and it certainly wouldn't have happened on the pitch.
I guarantee you that if Maeda is still here next season unless there is a major injury crisis with strikers we won't see him play as a striker at all.}

All about opinions but the manager at this point clearly believes Maeda is a better option a CF than Idah. I don't consider it a ludicrous notion, he has been played as a CF for large parts of his career, successfully at both club and international level. His performances for us, even last season where he played a few times there show he is equally effective either out wide or through the middle.

{Ed007's Note - And the stats back that up do they, how many games has Idah started as striker since Kyogo left and how many has Maeda?
Japan play with a False 9, that's why they choose Maeda..}

Although Maeda has had an exceptional season so far and has scored plenty of goals, I feel we get the best out of him wide left as many of his goals come from this more natural position for him.
The Board let the manager down badly in January by not replacing Kyogo properly and putting too much pressure on Idah. IMO.

{Ed007's Note - He's a far better winger than he is a striker and when he does play through the middle he is nowhere near effective and like Kyogo can drift out of the game, out wide he is constantly on the go, running at fullbacks etc.

We’re sacrificing 22 goals from the wing because we failed to sign a striker. Absolute madness nae negligence. No doubt Rodgers wasn’t happy hence the ‘I’ve been here before but I won’t let it kill my joy’ comment. The fact the last two games when we’ve struggled including loss at Easter Road we only used 3 of 5 subs tells us depth of squad isn’t good enough. Could the striker Rodgers wanted have been the fine margins difference in Munich? Who knows its history but the club failed to deliver what was required.

Utterly ridiculous that we find ourselves in a position where we have to compromise one position to back up another.

Maeda looks like he's through the middle tonight.

My guess is maeda is playing up front to accommodate Jota and Brendan does not want to lose his pressing ability.

It’s about correct use of players at certain times now, maeda is effective as a winger but I’d suggest jota is “as effective”, he was a striker no9 before Celtic, scored more goals than kyogo in that position in japan, and wether it’s a false 9 or not he’s preferred over kyogo, the fact is wether it’s kyogo Idah or meada as our 9 they all are ineffective for periods of the games as we just don’t play towards our striker, what seems to be evident is meada is getting on end of things bettter than Idah and kyogo managed, Rodgers also did have a look at him in the position when he first came in, for me it’s an amazing headache to have but one I think we’d rather have while 13 points clear, we should have brought in a striker no doubt, hopefully we do in summer, as good as meada is now we all know that’s current form and he hasn’t and won’t be prolific, him being so versatile over the front 3 is a bonus and we should just be happy to have the option, especially while we have in Adam idah what seems at times a disengaged player, maybe wrong but he seems disappointed at end of most games wether it’s in his performance or in his time on pitch I just don’t know but I think there’s a player there, but yet to see a starting player for Celtic which is expensive back up.
