I was reading an interesting article on Celtic and Hibs from the early years.
Hibs actually wore Hoops but stopped before Celtic were Established.
Celtic didn’t start wearing Hoops until 1903.
It also mentions that players had to be part of a Catholic organisation to play for Hibs.
But Celtic showed we were a “club for all” because in only our 2nd season, Celtic signed a Protestant goalkeeper.
It’s been well documented over the years that 6 Hibs players moved to Celtic and that we “stole” the Hibs players, when we started up.
But 5 of those players came from Glasgow and it made perfect sense for them to move back to the West of Scotland.
It wasn’t long before Celtic became a bigger club than Hibs and Celtic would help Hibs financially.

{Ed007's Note - Hibs started out as a team from St Patrick's Catholic Young Men's Society in The Cowgate so it was pretty obvious that their players would need to be part of the group - if you're work had a football team you didn't have guys that worked elsewhere or a school team playing pupils from another school.
It's also worth noting that The SFA at the time banned teams from playing the "Irish team" - rules that Hearts were first to break - and there's communication between The SFA and Hibs where the governing body stated "We are catering for Scotsmen, not Irishmen".
Hibs were actually founded as part of celebrations to mark the centenary of the birth of Daniel O'Connell the political leader of Ireland's Catholics in the early 19th century.}

I read James Connolly was a big supporter of Hibs.

{Ed007's Note - He was, I've read that there's a plague outside Easter Road commemorating Connolly but I've never seen it myself, there also a James Connolly Hibs Supporters Club.}

{Ed007's Note - There's a lot of Irish history in Cowgate mate and it's worth having a stoat about.}
