I was thinking about which SPFL players were good enough for Celtic to buy for next season and who are not good enough.
My number 1 target would be Lewis Ferguson and it would take at least 5 or 6 million to start negotiations, with Lewis having 3 years left on his current contract.
I'm not sure about Alan Campbell.
All I know about him is that he's a workhorse and would be 100% committed.
David Turnbull would be the best person to ask whether his former midfield teammate was good enough to make the massive step up.
I would take the chance on Nesbitt of Hibs.
He's scored at both Ibrox and Celtic Park this season and he could be our next Scott McDonald.
I've not seen enough of young fullback Doig.
He's a player who's received plenty of praise this season but I can only remember him getting took off at half time at Celtic Park after Frimpong destroyed him.
That's all part of a young players apprenticeship.
I like the Dundee Utd goalkeeper but it would be too big a gamble to bring him in as our number 1 for next season because he could turn into another Zaluska.
If we could offload Barkas and Bain, I would bring him in with another keeper to fight for the keepers jersey.
Celtic desperately need centre halves but Gallagher and Porteous are not good enough with the ball at their feet and they would be disastrous signings.

Agree with most of yuor points other than Campbell, Who I believe is certainly good enough. He and Turnbull made Motherwell into a top team and they have shown that they work well together. i would add Jamie Hamilton at Hamilton he is very young but totally comitted and when he plays Hamilton don't lose goals.

Jonace,
I didn’t realise Campbell was only 22 years old.
Campbell, Turnbull and Ferguson could be the future Celtic and Scotland midfield for years.
Plenty of energy with that trio.
Celtic need to get back to having the best Scottish players.
It wasn’t that long ago Celtic had Craig Gordon, KT, Brown, Calmac, McGregor, Forrest and Griffiths all in the same Scotland squad.

We don't need centre halfs, midfield players, etc., we need coaches, good ones that know what they are doing. Coaches who know how a team should defend, what they should do when we don't have the ball.

We need defenders that know how to defend.

Currently being debated is Duffy, and I didn't hear anyone disagree with the signing. He was in a Brighton team that was holding its own in the EPL, and was defensively sound. I didn't hear anyone saying that this was a defender that couldn't defend, and it certainly didn't say that on his CV. He was defending in a well coached unit, then he came to Celtic.

At Celtic, and not this season, but last season also, we were shipping lots of chances every game. We were not defending as a unit! We are not well drilled! We don't appear to be working on that side of our game, because the problems are still there. We don't appear to be getting coached.

To fix such problems you need to work at it, again and again. However, if what you are working on is incorrect, the problem is still there. So, you need good coaches, lots of them. You need a philosophy, a system, a way of playing that is effective.

Buying this player, that player, and so on, hoping it will work out doesn't appear to have been effective for us. If we have a system, a philosophy, then we should be looking at players that can fit that mould, not someone who looks as though they are doing well at another club. The other club is not Celtic.
