I distinctly remember sayin this to friends in the pub back in the late 80s early 90s.
Celtics training structure should be heavilly geared to european football.
If i was the coach i would be doing 70 -80 % of training geared to this.
My reasoning is this we simply don't need to train all week and work on tactics to beat motherwell and killie for eg. Those games can take care of themselves most of the time.
We would work on all kinds of formation and tactics with the ball
and off the ball.
The more we worked on it the better we would become at this and we would be far more astute and prepared going into early qualifiers, cos its blatantly obviious we are never ready for these.
In recent years we have been put out by inferior teams with better tactical awareness and looked better prepared.
I still can't believe a club of our size doesn't prepare for the most important part of our season.

Thats nonsense rayman am sorry but you do have to work on tactics for league games when teams put 10 men behind the ball its no straight forward to just go out and beat them. And its being disrespectful to the rest of the league. Being complacent is what got us in this mess. Your biggest game is always your next one. Can't take europe anymore serous as you take anyone in the league.

Gar that's what the 20-30% is for. We are throwing away up to 40m a year by not preparing. Are u honextly telling me we need 100% training and tactics to beat the rest. Its not complacency its being mentally right for the big games. And ofcourse we could easilly use these european tactics at home whenever needed.
90% of our home games are one way traffic where tactics don't come into it too often its just about breakin them down.

So we don't work on tactics for domestic games, just European games.
So your theory is at home we are better than most teams. So we don't need to develop. In Europe we need a game plan/ tactics to win. Are the European teams better than Celtic. If so going with your theory they don't need tactics to beat us.
All seems a bit far fetched to me.

If you have a system that's good enough to succeed in Europe, it will be good enough to succeed domestically, that should be the goal of all training and coaching, to succeed in Europe, (I mean by succeed, to get to quarter finals of the Europa League, at least, and to get to the group stages of the champions League, at least) ,

Am not saying that Rayman what a was more or less meaning is training is always to prepare for your next game. Can't prioritize one over another. But I get what your saying too we do need to work on a style of football that will serve us well in Europe.

Can only play one game at a time, can't prepare for games weeks or months away, form, fitness, attitudes of players change constantly.
