It was 27 years ago yesterday that Fergus McCann saved Celtic and took control of our club.
In Fergus McCann's first season, Celtic won our first trophy in 6 years by winning the 1995 Scottish Cup.
But it took Celtic 18 months to build a team that was capable of making a decent challenge for the league when we went back to the new Celtic Park in season 1995/ 96.
It was still hard going in the early days of Fergus's reign.
Celtic had 13 leagues left that season of 1993/ 94 and we also played 36 league games the following season, when we played our home games temporarily at Hampden Park.
Out of those 49 league matches, Celtic only managed to win 15 league games.
To then go on to win the league within 3 years was an unbelievable achievement.

Buzz Bomb

It’s incredible it’s 25 years since we were decanted to Hampden before returning to the Holy Ground. Where did the time go but that’s life as they say.

One of the best teams I’ve watched with Any Thom, Di Canio, Cadette, Pierre et. al. up front and some great football under the one and only Tommy Burns. Celtic supporters managing us and Celtic supporters playing for us. Paul McStay will we see another? Great memories.

I remember getting my letter from Fergus as a season ticket holder when shares were going on sale stating he would build a 60,000 all seated stadium and we’d have 59,000 season ticket holders with 10,000 on the waiting list. I thought aye right Fergus as I’d just watched Celtic play St. Mirren at a foggy Parkhead on a Wednesday night with 11,000 at the game to shouts of sack the board back the team. But Fergus delivered.

That’s what I call vision.

That’s what’s needed from Dermot Desmond now.

Buzz Bomb

I remember hearing the team read out at Hampden and could have started greeting.

Carl Muggleton and Wayne Biggins come to mind.

Did we sign two soldiers or am I tripping? Do you know that team?

{Ed007's Note - One of them was Gary Holt that played for Kilmarnock etc managed Livingston and is now working at Falkirk.}

Your right JFP,
Lou Macari signed 2 soldiers.
Like Ed I can only remember Celtic signing Gary Holt.
Gary Holt was a Chef with the army but he bought himself out of the army and turned up at Celtic Park and Macari signed him and his buddy.
Holt came on as a sub in the Mark Hughes Testimonial and both players soon followed Lou Macari to Stoke City.

{Ed007's Note - The other player is called Justin Whittle, Buzz. He played with Stoke, Hull City and Grimsby Town.}
