Peter Lawell is a hard act to follow. Big loss event or the club even if it's probably time to go. The fact that Dermot Desmond tried to talk him out of retiring says more than many of the insulting posts on here from so called fans who I doubt ever achieved half of what he achieved in business. All the best on your retirement Peter and thanks for remaining at Celtic despite having other opportunities in England and in Europe because you were a fan and thanks for the stable financial foundation you leave behind.

No he had to go JFP even though all he has achieved but you can’t eat yesterday’s dinner. He gambled and lost the 10 and found asleep at the wheel he was warned. The reincarnation of Rangers were indeed coming. The lack of communication from him, there has been mismanagement at every level. 😂😂😂.

Cmac I don’t disagree with my own words but that doesn’t detract from what Peter Lawell achieved but and nor does it justify the insulting comments on here from absolute wallopers some of whom are self entitled.

'So called fans' BS getting hoyed out here already? 'He's a fan' BS to make a cherry on top? I'm thankful he's not Irish otherwise we'd have the Celtic trinity. The guy's a good financier, no doubt. I haven't achieved as much as him in that department. No shame in saying it. No shame in saying I'm not that way inclined either. To run a club as well as ours whilst stifle a club like ours is some achievement. The truth is, we haven't dared to dare, quite happy plobbing along being the best club in Scotland through mismanagement and using our peers as a spirit level. Thanks for your time and efforts Peter. Goodbye.

The demise of Rangers in 2012 gave Lawell (and Celtic) a huge advantage which was maybe not grabbed with both hands - but one tied behind our back; as that was more than enough to dominate Scotland and that comlacency would eventually bite him on the bum.
We could also argue that the last outstanding CL result was in 2012 when we beat Barcelona, since then they have been few and far-between including a 3-3 and a 1-1 v Man City under the previous manager in 2016. Arguably thereafter, our CL record and reputation all but died a death with several heavy batterings.
Even the promise and potential of winning last years difficult EL group wasn't built on this season; yet again by poor preparation failing to add quality to key areas and underestimating opponents.
He will be remembered for a largely successful period, Celtic Way and lazer-lights, but also for low-balling, haggling-and losing and probable interference in matters that should not concern him.
During his tenure, he achieved most of his personal objectives and bonuses, but allowed a team formed 8 years ago to overtake us!
