I had a look at the Swiss clubs record in European competitions over the last 5 seasons and it's brought up some interesting statistics.
Their record in that time has been abysmal, especially in qualifiers.
In the last 5 seasons Swiss clubs have tried to qualify to the group stages 20 times and have failed 19 times.
Only Young Boys who only had a CL play off tie to win in 2018 are the exception.
Yet 12 Swiss clubs have automatically qualified for the group stages over the last 5 seasons. ( some clubs automatically dropped into the Europa league group stages after losing their CL qualifier )
I think Scotland might have now jumped ahead of Switzerland now in the club co-efficient. I wouldn't be surprised if we have because the Swiss record over the last 5 seasons has been bad.
Yet they still had 3 clubs go straight into the Europa group stages last season. Strange.

Does the national teams results and co-eficient help out with European places for clubs?

I don’t know Wyllie.
Scotland are still 3 places behind Switzerland but 5 seasons ago we were 10 places behind.

Steph I can’t get the kids out of their rooms with PlayStations and the wee one would rather talk to her pals online.
The wife likes to watch murder programmes all night.
I’m getting nervous because I get the feeling she might be planning something.
If you suddenly stop hearing from me you will know why. 😂.

We are actually ahead of Switzerland in the rankings as we are 14th and they are 18th.

To get automatic entry to the group stages you need to be from one of the top 10 associations, which is a possibility if the Scottish teams perform as well this season as they did last season.

I think next year because of our coefficient Scotland will get two spots in the CL. So whoever wins the league this year will join in the 3rd qualifying round and only have 2 teams to navigate in the Champions path to reach the group stages. The team that finish second in SPFL will join in the 2nd qualifying round and have 3 teams to navigate to reach the group stages but this will be in the league path so will have harder teams to beat to get to group stages because they will be from the top leagues.

I thought I had read we had overtaken them with the results before lockdown.
The Swiss will be on their way down the rankings due to their recent record.
In saying that Basel look like getting to the Quarter Finals of this years Europa league. I think if they reach the final do the Swiss overtake the Scots again in the rankings?

It is a confusing system to be fair. I think our qualifying status for this year is based on last years coefficient and Switzerland where above us then, which could be what you are referring to.
