Partick Thistle must of fancied their chances when Forrest came on. Only reason he is getting a game is lack of cover. Glad he will be a certainty to be given his books in summer

I hear Barcelona is after him, so you might have to watch him for another few years .
As Ronny says what's not to like about Forrest .

One of the worst players to have ever wore the hoops. Even neutral football personalities have commented he simply is not good enough.

Scottish Championship grade at a push

It seems RD likes Forrest and still thinks he has a future according to recent interviews, but I wish he would share his reasons with the rest of us.
James has failed to progress after a brilliant introduction to the team and has horrendous injury problems.
I think he was relied upon far too much by NL in his first season and played far too much and it has ruined his career.
It's a bit like when Samaras was with us and you knew he could be 'unplayable' at his best, but there were far too many poor and mediocre performances in between - only with Forrest there is an added hesitancy in his play through fear of injury.

09 Apr 2015 10:13:29
JungleJim I personally think its a tactical ploy by RD, creating an illusion he is part of plans in order to gain a bigger fee for him (if any) in the summer.

Thats a few wingers we have been linked with past few weeks which can only mean one thing, Forrest is for the cut

I have to say I'd have Forrest in there ahead of Stokes. Purely becausr of his pace. But Forrest needs space to be good otherwise he's pretty average. Ideally the two get shifted and we bring in Bakkali and somebody else.

You may be right that Deila is just putting him in the shop window, hence the reason for bigging him up.

However, what I would say is that I do not agree with much of what is written here about Forrest and I think he is a cracking player when he is on his game. He is quick, skillful, links up well with the fullback and has a good shot.

Forrest was really impressive when he first came into the team, you wonder if he could have a decent spell without injuries whether he could get back to that form.

{Ed007's Note - That was 5/6 years ago though, Gerry, his performances over the years are his form, that's that as far as Forrest is concerned. Liam Millar, Mark Burchill, Simon Donnelly, Darren O'Dea, the list goes on of players who were good as youngsters and never reached the standards they were expected to. Do you really think Forrest can get back to that kind of form after so many years of being below even mediocre? His style of play hasn't matured at all, all he is is a hit and chase merchant, any defender with speed easily controls him because he lacks any real technical ability, a winger who can't beat a man or cross the ball is not a good player.
Forrest averages playing 24 games a season since he broke into the team in 2009-10. His record is a goal every 5.4 matches and an assist every 6.3 matches, at nearly 24 he's not a youngster any more and playing in the SPFL for CFC that is a very poor return, throw in his injury problems - and off-field stupidity - and he's just not worth a wage from a club like us, we're not getting anywhere near value for money from him and if you look back we never have.
When do we draw a line under it, when he's 28/29 and people will still be saying he should be given another chance or he will come good?}

JBhoy yes I did see the likes of Wayne Biggins play under Macari. that's what i'm basising argument on

14.) 09 Apr 2015
09 Apr 2015 15:41:06
@ED007 - Forrest provides either a goal or an assist once every 2 matches (or thereabouts). I should point out that these two metrics do not provide an accurate picture of what he brings to the team though, as there are lots of times he sets up a goal scoring opportunity and the player fluffs it. Not only that there are other times he creates space and sets up the assister as well. Unfortunately I do not have access to OPTA data to get the exact figures.

Saying that I do accept your point that he misses a lot of matches due to injury but I am hopeful that under Ronny's new training regime he will be less prone to injury because Ronny seems to be managing him better than previous managers.

{Ed007's Note - 146 appearances, 27 goals and 23 assists, go and work it out.}

15.) 09 Apr 2015
09 Apr 2015 16:13:30
Rabmac , the boys rubbish , point 1 he's a coward from challanges ie dips his toe in at best
Point 2 he's still immature in his attitude
Point 3 all he's got is pace so we'd be ASWELL signing a 100 meter sprinter and hope for the best

16.) 09 Apr 2015
09 Apr 2015 17:40:14
@ED007 - sorry the post was meant to read 1 in 3 but the point still stands.

@TheFalkirkBhoy - Granted he is not much of a tackler and I have said previously that his defensive work is lacking as well.

I also accept that he is still immature and needs to grow up.

However, I don't accept that all he has is pace (although that is part of his effectiveness). If all he had was pace, then he would not set up as many chances as he does, nor would he score goals.

Obviously people are entitled not to rate him but that does not mean I have to agree because I do rate him. Although I do accept he should be achieving more. My personal opinion is give him 1 more year to prove himself and if he does not sort out his injury problem and start producing on a more consistent basis then punt him.

{Ed007's Note - Forrests career stats are - I wasn't counting last night's game so it's 147 apps not 146 - 147 apps with 27 goals is a goal every 5.44 games and 23 assists is one every 6.39 games, I don't see how you can possibly disagree with any of that.
Forrest's deal runs out in June 2016, next summer and you want CFC to give him another year, then what? Let him leave for nothing or do you think he should be given another 4/5 year deal to see how one more season pans out then we need to punt him and pay him off?
In my opinion if PL has any sense he will know that if RD can keep Forrest fit enough to finish the season then this coming summer will be the optimum time to move him on and get a fee. The choice he has is whether to get rid this summer and get a fee or let his contract run down and let him leave for nothing but how many games will he be fit for next season, it would be ridiculous if the player was offered a new deal on the back of what he has done so far for us - Paul Daniels.}

17.) 09 Apr 2015
09 Apr 2015 18:19:13
As I've said before James Forrest has been given a lot of money by CFC. a lot of private treatment and physio time.
And he has given very little back in return. Not all his fault I know, a lot of bad luck. But I think it's time to say enough is enough, you can't just keep throwing money at something that is never going to be properly repaired.

18.) 09 Apr 2015
09 Apr 2015 20:05:26
Does it really matter about punting him now so we can get a transfer fee. I thought everybody who knew anything about the game didn't rate him? If he's half as bad as is made out on here we would have to pay to get rid of him. Last start in the previous game we won 2-0 and he scored one and won the penalty for the other, and still took pelters on here, that being the case if the fans really do dislike him that much it might be better for both parties if he goes. But I'm with you Rab, I also rate him. Markie

{Ed007's Note - WOW he won a penalty!!! Get a new 5 year deal wrote up immediately.}

19.) 09 Apr 2015
09 Apr 2015 20:05:28
@Ed007 - If you read what I actually said you should notice that I was not disagreeing with your stats. My actual point was that he delivers either a goal or an assist once every 3 matches [(number of goal + number of assists)/number of games = (27+23)/147 = 0.34]

I also pointed out that these 2 metrics don't tell the whole picture of how effective he is as a player. To get a better picture you need to look at key passes that created a goal scoring opportunity but player didn't score [not Forrest's fault] and you need to look at opportunities he creates for others to assist. These being just two examples of important metrics for assessing a player's ability and effectiveness.

Surely you don't think any manager worth his salt these days only looks at goals and assists? You only have to look at Billy Beane of the Oakland A's sabermetric methods to realise the importance of studying other key stats.

For a better idea of what I mean you can read "The Most Important New Advanced Soccer Statistics and Why They Matter", which is an article found on the Bleacher Report.

{Ed007's Note - Can't you think for yourself? You should really try it sometime. What does your books say about a player that isn't even fit to play in 50% of his team's matches? I know what I'd say.}

20.) 09 Apr 2015
09 Apr 2015 20:35:12

With regards to Forrest's injury issues I have already conceded that it is an issue. However, I then went on to say that I thought Deila was managing the player better than previous managers and I was hopeful that this would result in the player improving this record. I concluded by saying that I personally would give him 1 more season to see how things turned out.

{Ed007's Note - At least try and keep on track, rambling at me is just pointless. So when do you think the club should look at his contract situation seeing there's only a year to run on it come this summer?
You really want the club to spend another year trying to turn Forrest's career around only for him to walk away for nothing next summer if by some miracle he stays fit? He has done nothing to warrant that kind of loyalty or trust from the club. I don't think Forrest is mentally strong enough to play for a club the size of CFC.}

21.) 09 Apr 2015
09 Apr 2015 20:41:51
A crucial point in all this if he wasnt injured as much as he is, would he still be here? NO CHANCE.

Even with an injury free run of games, its evident he is out his depth. there's no way he will ever displace GMS from squad and let's not forget we have also signed the young bhoy duffy who is a winger.

Only reason he is getting game time, is to effectively put him in "shop window". he's had his chance, he has blown it, he will be moved on

22.) 09 Apr 2015
09 Apr 2015 21:39:32
You may like Forrest or not and that is your perogrative . I have to say his career at Celtic is very under whelming, however in many years he has produced bits of magic and changed games in our favour . I agree with Rabmac , I think we should give him another year and that will give Deila the opportunity to maybe get him over his injuries and play more consistently for us . I think him and GMS could between them run riot against any defence . One replacing the other after about an hour and the tired defenders may not be able to cope .
I don't think that we will get a fortune for him as he goes into the last year of his contract, By selling him now Deila who has always seemed to be honest and straight forward would be shown up as telling untruths , when he said today that he wanted to build the team for the future around Virgil Bitton Forrest and Johannson . Punting Forrest would probably undo some the trust Deila has built up.
Surely Forrest hasn't cost us that must in wages as the insurance would pay when he is out injured , meaning that the club could well afford the specialist costs , if the insurance didn't pay either .

23.) 09 Apr 2015
09 Apr 2015 22:05:51
And scored a goal. I know. Even bigger wow give him a 10year contract.

{Ed007's Note - So that's it, he won a penalty and scored a goal 2 games ago, so now what? We all knew he had done that so what's your point? Do you really think he should be offered a new deal because of his performance against St Mirren?}

24.) 10 Apr 2015
09 Apr 2015 23:29:31
He is better than Stokes

25.) 10 Apr 2015
10 Apr 2015 00:49:45
I didn't know Forrests contract was up next summer but if that's the case we should move him on this summer. There will be an english championship side our ex manager is in charge of that will give us 2 or 3 mill for him.

26.) 10 Apr 2015
10 Apr 2015 04:21:30
ok so getting something for him would help. But for me I don't really care about a fee for him. For to many years he has been unreliable because he's been injured. I would just like him off the wage bill and the wages being spent on someone who will make a sustained contribution to the team. Not someone who you need to pluck games from weeks even seasons ago to make a case for.

27.) 10 Apr 2015
10 Apr 2015 10:34:46
Forrest is lucky his career at club is now and not period 1992-1999. Brian McLaughlin would of got game ahead of him and that just shows you how out his depth Forrest is

28.) 10 Apr 2015
10 Apr 2015 11:26:39
@ED007 - I think you will find that his contract does not run out next summer as you claimed above but in fact runs up until the end of 2016.

Obviously you and others are entitled to the opinion that you don't think he is deserving of a new contract. Just as me and others are entitled to the opinion that we would like him to stay for another year and see if he can overcome his injuries and get back to his best.It is OK to disagree and in fact it is necessary if you want to have a healthy forum.

What I would like to ask you, is if Forrest is such a terrible player as you and others are suggesting, who is going to buy him? Surely if he is as bad as you suggest and on top of that injury prone, who is going to take him off our hands? If someone is prepared to take him off our hands then that would imply that they disagree with you and agree with my evaluation of the player?

{Ed007's Nis, te - I can assure you that Forrests's contract expires on 30th June 2016. All contracts with clubs who play winter football do, England, France, Spain etc. Contracts in Russia, Scandinavia etc end on 31st December.
Didn't we buy Boerrigter? There's always some mug you can sell your $hite to hence why it looks like RD is playing him and trying to get him fit and drum up interest.
Do you think he deserves a new contract?
I have no idea what that last sentence means, so you rate every single player in football simply because they are signed to a team? Seems a bit odd to me but each to their own, what about Ian Black, he looks to be heading out of Ibrox and must be a player, both Hearts and Sevco signed him? Pukki and Balde, we signed them so they must be good going by your logic? How can they be poor players when clubs sign them, or is it only players you like that counts?
The thing is, I really don't care if people agree with me or not - not one iota - I am that confident in my own opinion and don't need to scramble around looking for people to agree with me just to make it look like my opinion is popular or 'right', an opinion can't really be right or wrong can it?.
If you think just because another team signs a player makes him a good player you really want to change the books you're reading, have you never heard the saying 'One man's muck is another man's brass?
You're saying that every player who has been transferred away from CFC was a good player in your eyes because another club signed him, or would it only count if you liked the player?}
