Taylor has pulled out of Killie training. Is something about to happen? HH.

Bob if is I'd be supprised as Killie have just stated that they want three million for him and don't see Celtic wanting to pay that after the Killie statement. Celtic take a long time in negotiating buying player's. Unless the Mcginn fiasco still hurts and they going to pay the 3 mill.

If he's our number one target for the position and they are dead set on 3m then pay it. People questioning if Wan-Bissaka was twice the player Tierney was. Well is Tierney 10 times the player Taylor is?

Taylor has tight hamstring nothing else in it.

yes he is.

Won't know until we've seen him play at same level regularly Jim.

It's common for managers to rest players in the middle of transfer speculation as their head is not in the right place; as they say.

Well the answer to both questions is no Kev. But we know that's not how the market works. To think we might get two left backs in for a fifth of what we got for Tierney is a bit fishy to me. Personally I find it strange that we go from trying to sign a full back like Castagne, who would genuinely have been a class signing, to Taylor, a player who I'm not even sure I'd have over Boli. But we need two players for that position so that'll be that sorted and the shareholders will be happy with the spare change.

Castange is a right back, but I get your point. In regards to the money we were supposedly offering, to going for a left back from Kilmarnock is strange. We still need a right back as we have no cover for that position which happened during the week even though Ajer was very good there. Personally doubt we want to spend big on full backs even though we got big money for ours.

Yeah Quinn the point being that it's a shift in quality. Just seems like downsizing. A transfer policy that is totally flawed. A mantra of quality over quantity that doesn't seem to be met. We sell a quality centre forward that can score against top teams in the CL for 20m and don't replace him. We sell a LB to a side that have just played in a European final for 25m and we replace him with Kilmarnock's left back. The way we went about our managerial appointment. We aren't a CL club because we don't operate like one. Between record sponsorship deals I really don't think the transfer market is an area we should be making such large profits in. It's an area we should be looking to strengthen. It's a good job the rest of our league is p*sh and we've enjoyed domestic success because the way we go about our business right now stinks.

Some people are just never happy eh
We have brought in almost a new defence so far this window with one guy costing 7m our second highest signing ever, having the KT money means that failure to qualify for CL as what has happened means that next season we will not be under any pressure to sell off our assets.

I'm quite sure the only reason we will sell our assets is if they actually want to leave. Unless anyone can tell me the last player we sold for big money that didn't want to leave?

Roy we've been told by our very own CEO that we don't budget ourselves on CL money so the idea that selling KT covers any lost revenue is just garbage.

24 Aug 2019 20:27:24
And you can make this judgement after 5 or 6 games?

14.) 24 Aug 2019
24 Aug 2019 20:41:19
It's not just this window Roy. I read a piece by Chris Sutton not long ago which rang true. Since Rodgers took over in 2016 we have signed 37 players. 37! In 3 years! How many does it take to realise that to progress it needs to be quality over quantity. You mention Jullien being our second most expensive signing. Hats off to the board for pushing the boat out a bit there. I think he looks a good player. But the point remains that our second most expensive signing cost one third of our second most expensive sale. See the pattern?

Wage budget 50 odd million which was 60 million a few months ago.
Season ticket sales around 30 million I would say.
We buy cheap or young and develop in the hope that we can give guy's a platform to show case our their skills and move on for profit.

It is why we don't rely on European money to exist and it is why have won 8 in a row, an invincible treble, 69 games unbeaten ( UK record ) a double treble and a treble treble and now going for a quadruple treble. I'll say that again A QUADRUPLE TREBLE we are going for this season, Ok some signings haven't worked out but some have been tremendous. Is it the board or Lawells fault the BR has left the club in a right state in regards to scouting and not so good players getting paid for nothing

I don't think it is, NL is only just in the door and I would say he has been backed so far.

I would also suggest that the 4 signings that NL are better quality than a whole hist of BR's ones!

There we go again with the make a profit. If you continue to buy so many projects/ big gambles what's the point. Members of our scouting team have come out and said that they spend time identifying players to get knocked back when they hear that it will take more than three million.

Yes there are the odd exceptions with Edouard and Jullien. Yes there are players who can be brought in for for small amounts that go on to be quality, but the misses far outweigh the hits. Yes we can continue to to develop our own youngsters. But the team is crying out for a few quality additions to go to the next level.

It's about the balance. I think it's a bit harsh to blame Rodgers for the wage bill, that comes down to the club. At the same time the treble treble was largely thanks to Rodgers. I never expect a treble, it takes monumental effort and a slice of fortune and I'm certainly not expecting a treble now. But if people think that not replacing players like Dembele or Tierney properly is fine then let's just roll with it.

Jim you said during this discussion about replacing Tierney with a cheaper option.
But that's how KT got in the team and got to thrive.

25 Aug 2019 15:42:00
Kev if we get a cheaper option in the club and fans are confident can go on to be a similar or better level then that's fine. So long as the money went on other areas of the side. But I'm not confident Taylor will and I'm not confident we'll see ready made quality signed in other areas either. The net spends tell you what's going on. I don't need to.
