Reported in a paper despite having a flight and medical booked for balde a last min phone from palace boss he could end up there

Looklike that could happen, heard palace put another bid in and its been accepted. Don't see celtic offerin him more than palace to be honest. guess it depends on what motivates him, money or football?

Would be glad if he go's to palace. Get russell in quick. League and cups come well before a competition we haven't even qualified for. Russell is a ready made replacement for hooper. Good chance baldes head will drop if we don't qualify for champs league. Any thoughts ed?

Agree0 Disagree1

If he wants to go to palace let him, just proves the modern day footballer is more interested in cash than cups and titles, as for russell, is he better than what we have?. not in my opinion, i'd rather give watt more game time. bhoywonder

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree. Balde has said he feels he should be playing in Champions League. If we don't qualify then he may already be looking at the exit door before our regular season even begins. Having said that, he could be the guy whose goals make sure we DO qualify for Champions League. On balance, and if it were up to me, I'd go for Russell as he is proven in the SPL. Just my opinion though, I could be wrong.

Was on portugese web site and looks as if balde is having medical tommorow for celtic i'd imagine lennoxtown http://www.abola. pt/nnh/ver.aspx?id=407554 iused google translate and there own fans are more or less saying the same thing from what I've seen of him he's decent but need to see more of him.

he is talking to crystal palace as they have now offered more money, so the medical has been put back a day

Agree0 Disagree1

This is what Google translate does to an article written in Portugese! lol

"Victory and Glasgow Celtic already have the business perfectly defined, but the announcement of the transfer of Balde for the champions of Scotland still needs medical evaluation that the striker will be subjected. the next few hours, the Portuguese international will fly to the capital Lisbon Scottish where already since yesterday a senior badge Minho, to make the inevitable clinical examinations. Has any1 heard anything yet regarding any of our possible targets surely we ain't dragging our heels over 3/4 million for russell the wages we are freeing up and the champions league money surely there's got to be at least 15 million to spend Celtic Bhoy7

Believable12 Unbelievable6

Celtic won't spend £15m, even if Wanyama and Hooper are sold. I can't understand why no move is being made for Russell, he fits the signing pattern perfectly - young, loads of potential, resale value and cheap! I would love to think it is because they have someone better lined up but.

Agree0 Disagree0

A portugese paper is reporting balde is on his way for a medical

Agree2 Disagree1

I'm not caring about the balde guy, I'd rather have russell. I know his game, watch him most weeks when the utd games were on telly, I think he's a perfect fit for celtic. but as a celtic fan I am used to us dragin our heels when it comes to signin players, again we have already lost out on one of our top targets the young winger tonev, and also looks like we will lose out on russell. as for the balde deal we very nearly lost out because we low ball'd his current club. I'm all for a bargain, but if u want quality sometimes u need to pay a little bit extra.

Agree1 Disagree0

Russell being a good player indeed, but has anyone else think that maybe he isn't what NL wants? He is a good player but who's is he going to replace at Celtic? Hooper?poor replacement. Stokes?poor replacement. Watt? can't see him coming to CP to come of the bench now and again. the lad Griffiths would be a better option?

Agree0 Disagree0

Who is he going to replace? Any club needs 4 or 5 strikers. We could end up with 2 if/ when Hooper goes. Are you happy to go with Stokes and Watt for the whole season. We probably need Russell and Balde!

Agree0 Disagree0

Plenty of time left lads. The season has just ended. Still think russel will sign for us. He gets back from tenerife tonight

Agree0 Disagree0

Lassad, michu, mcourt, murphy and rogne are gone hopefully bangura that's got to free up over 40k a week I didn't mean spend 15million on tranfers I was including wages in that as well 7million on transfers and 8 on wages surely we can afford that 3/4 mil for proven scorer in spl worth a shout the bhoys young what if we get striker injured

Agree0 Disagree1

Am the same I'd rather have Russell am going to be gutted when he signes for Darby tomorrow it's terrible that we haven't even made a bid and for saying maybe Lennon doesn't want him he was the one that asked to be kept in the loop over the deal I just hope he makes a last ditch effort tomorrow.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why did we bid £500k previously then not bother now? What's changed? Ed? Stevo dundee {Ed007's Note - Better players' available now perhaps Stevo, better VFM and definitely more variety...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed do you think there's a slight chance we might still bid for Russell? {Ed007's Note - I hope not.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Am I the only one that would like Lassad to stay. I think given a couple of games he could be really good for us. There is a couple of times we have seen flashes of his ability. None more so than when he volleyed a Chris Commons cross into the bottom right corner past the keeper. That was an excellent touch and finish. The guy hasn't had a chance yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

Does it not occur to you that maybe NL does not rate him too highly? He is decent, nothing more. Not any better than Stokes

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed I take it you don't want Russell? Look at McDonald he was a class player for us. But even if you don't want him do you think we will bid? {Ed007's Note - For domestic football sure shouldn't we be looking at a higher level of player?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed why are you against Russell, I like many others would take him in a heartbeat. {Ed007's Note - {Ed007's Note - For domestic football sure shouldn't we be looking at a higher level of player? We are quick enough to shout about being a Champions League team, shouldn't we have they players to back it up?}

Agree1 Disagree0

Don't want Johnny Russell because he's not champions league quality? How many of our current squad were champions league quality when we bought them? Russell is 23, just because he may not be champions league quality now does not mean he won't be champions league quality in 2/3 years. That's how we roll, we don't buy the finished article, we buy players with the potential to become very good players and I believe Russell has that potential. Would much rather have Russell over Balde.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Ed I keep seeing that when Russell is mentioned you say we are going for a higher level of player Balde is not a higher level of player nor was Fontune when we could have had Fletcher nor Jimenez when we could have had McCarthy I know scottish players are not the flavour this month but we have always had a core of scots who were there for many years and at the moment Mulgrew, Brown, Commons and Forrest have been some of our most consistant players and hopefully will be for years to come john {Ed007's Note - Russell will do a job domestically and may move on to be able to play at a higher level, just because he Scottish doesn't mean we should take the risk. Let him go and enjoy a half decent career for himself rather than clog up outr bench. }

Ive a few rumoura here today ed, 1st one coming from a friend I have in england and he is pretty sure Celtic have approached Carlton Cole aswell as Aston Villa about the possibility of Darren Bent. Celtic have apparently asked Cole to join up with the team for their pre season and have held talks with villa about a loan deal for bent with celtic unwilling to pay all his wages. Also heard a strong rumour that Lassads Contract was terminated and he will be joining Miku Rogne Gershon and McCourt out the door. Ed can you shine any light on any of these?

Believable9 Unbelievable11

I would happily take carlton cole and bent

Agree1 Disagree1

I'm glad it's Sunday, so as I can go to mass tonight & pray to The Lord Our God, that we don't sign, Either Cole or Bent. If this is true, Celtic will change their mind about this pair when they hear that my Sister does F-all on a Saturday either, like these two, & could be signed for a smile & the promise of minimum wage. These are two players that the pundits have been expecting to come on to a game. at some point, but not in this lifetime, it would seem. I'd be very much happier if we give Tony Watt & another yunk a chance. SunStroke88

Agree0 Disagree1

They will not leave england. Lenny wouldn't have them at celtic anyway.

Agree1 Disagree0

Carlton cole please no, he's horrendous never in a million years, every other transfer window he gets mentioned with us and each time I pray it dos'nt happen he's garbage. Bent on the other hand I would be pleased with, wages? hmmm that's another issue

Agree0 Disagree0

Villa could either sell Bent for £8-10m or give him to Celtic and subsidise his wages for us. I wonder which option they will go for?

Agree0 Disagree0

I would take Darren Bent in a heartbeat, not Carlton Cole though. I think people forget Chris Sutton was a pudding at Chelsea before we signed him because he was excellent at Norwich. Bent had a great scoring record at Charlton and Sunderland before a 1 in 3 rate at Tottenham. He turned 29 in February and is on massive wages which I think is scaring off other Prem clubs but 180 premier league goals tells me he would be more than capable of scoring an absolute barrel load up here for Celtic. It would all depend on how much of a wage cut would he be willing to take and what fee OR how much of his wages Villa are willing to pay for a loan deal.

Darren Bent never has been, nor ever will be as good a player as Chris Sutton btw I was only using that deal as an example. Different type of forward anyways.

Agree0 Disagree0

SunStroke88 why do ye not like bent? a would take the guy in a second he's no the best technically but he's a proven scorer would score a barrell load up here and would do a job in europe

GunnieBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

If a fee for Darren bent was 4million I would sign him in a heartbeat! With getting a regular game we would have a world class striker and then at least double the fee paid when re sold at least but I can only dream

SOS BHOY

Agree0 Disagree0

No room for either at Celtic. over hyped English internationals. Shearer 3O international goals Keane 59 and was never appreciated

Agree0 Disagree0

Well if sutton and bent are 2 dif types of players, with dif scoring records etc why are u compairing them? Surely u can't compare 2 people if they are dif types of players? That be like comparing sammy with scott mcdonald.

Looking through a list of freed premier league players yesterday, one caught my eye that could do a job for us if Hooper does go or as cover,

Franco di santo, what ye think?

bhoy32

Believable9 Unbelievable11

Cant score goals and average player at best,, deep river bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

The boy is ok, but couldn't hit water if he fell out a boat. his goalscoring record is nowhere near good enough for an average striker, wages would be better spent elsewhere.

S

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought Di Santo looked a good player a while back but Maloney went down there and simce then Di Santo got overlooked for him. To be fair Maloney has played well for them but he wasn't the answer for us and if he's a much better player than Di Santo then no thanks

Gary

Agree0 Disagree0

The only player we should consider going for from that list is Alex Pearce. I know the papers say he's anfield bound but offer him a contract. he can only say no. you never know he could say yes! 24 CB Irish internationalist and a real presence that we need at the back.
